Abducted. Escaped. Interrogated. Not quite how Katelyn wanted to celebrate getting her first job as a fresh university graduate, and especially not where she wanted to be—alone and defenseless in this entirely different world of magic, Elinvyl—where the King of Verrahal is hunting her and the ruthless Emperor of Lumiryn, Rius, wants to kill her because of it. Worse? She is forbidden to leave Elinvyl by the gods. Everything changes when the gods’ mark appears on Katelyn. Now, Rius is offering to help her with her newly unsealed Fae powers and uncover the truth behind her abduction. Despite her suspicions, she accepts it since—there’s no better way to also find out why he’s in her recent weird dreams. But when Katelyn learns from one of the seven gods that she’s actually remembering her past life, she realizes the past may still be as deadly as the present…and if she can’t figure out the secret behind the gods’ guidance, her current life may just be as short-lived as her last one.
Redding Stars is the first book in a new urban fantasy series. This was a great read and introduces you into this world that the FMC, Katelyn, gets thrown into. She discovers her magic abilities and begins to have flashbacks of memories from a past life. The MMC, Rius, is tasked with protecting her from assassins. Their stories unfold while we uncover more about their pasts.
This was a great debut book with found family, enjoyable main characters, and a surprise twist at the end! Looking forward to seeing what happens in book 2! 📕⭐️
First of all… HOW is this a debut novel?! I genuinely still cannot believe this is P. E. Lee’s first book. The amount of time I spent giggling, kicking my feet, and smiling at my iPad was honestly concerning!
Reddening Star is the perfect romantasy recommendation for readers who want to dip their toes into fantasy but still want a romance-forward story. The world-building and political elements are engaging without ever feeling overwhelming. They add just enough intrigue to keep you turning the pages, but I also really hope we get to explore even more of this world in book two.
for the romance…
Might I scream about how absolutely chef’s kiss it is?! The banter had me hooked from the very beginning, but as the story unfolded, we discovered that our man, Rius, didn’t just make sure our FMC, Katelyn, was fed but he literally built an entire kingdom just to keep her safe and happy while waiting for forever for the chance to be with her again.
I mean…
PER!FEC!TION!
the kissing scenes?! I don’t think I’ve ever read kisses scenes with this much tension. The neck kisses?! I was literally holding my breath. I ate. It. ALL. Up. And I need moreeeee. 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️
Lastly, I also have to talk about Katelyn. I absolutely adored her. Watching her uncover the truth about her past and relive pain she couldn’t change was so heart-gripping and gut-wrenching. I was rooting for her every step of the way, and after that ending, I’m fully ready to support whatever unhinged thing she decides to do with all those discovered POWERS.
P. E. Lee is such a promising author, and I truly hope Reddening Star finds the audience it deserves because this book deserves to blow up!!!!
Overall…
100% recommended, and I already cannot wait for book two!!!
Thank you P.E. Lee for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I enjoyed the overall plot of this story. The pacing was strong throughout, and it was consistently action-packed. I really liked the concept of past lives and finding each other again.
I did find the magic system and some of the plot points to be a little confusing and difficult to follow at times. I felt that certain aspects could have been explained in more detail, which would have made the story flow more smoothly.
I also felt that our main character’s magical abilities developed very quickly. Her training wasn’t explored in enough depth, which left me confused about the progression of her powers and how she became so capable in such a short amount of time.
I was very intrigued by the gods in this story, and I hope we get to see more of them in the next book. The brief interactions we did get left me wanting more.
This definitely felt like a legendary lovers story. I absolutely adored the slow-burn romance.
The climax was incredibly intense, and the ending was packed with action while setting up book two perfectly. I have a feeling we’ll get many more answers in the sequel, and I’m excited to see where the story goes next.
I really enjoyed Reddening Stars. It took me a little while to settle into the world, but once everything started coming together, I found myself completely invested in both the story and the characters.
The characters were easily my favorite part of the book. They felt authentic, with strengths, flaws, and relationships that made me genuinely care about what happened to them. I loved watching their bonds grow and seeing how each challenge shaped them throughout the story.
The world-building is detailed and immersive, adding plenty of depth without taking away from the heart of the story. There are moments where the pacing slows as the foundation is being built, but I never felt like it dragged for long because I knew those details would matter later.
By the time I reached the ending, I was left with so many questions in the best way possible. It wrapped up enough to feel satisfying while still making me excited to see what comes next.
Overall, Reddening Stars was a fun and captivating read that balances fantasy, intrigue, and character development really well. If you enjoy stories with rich worlds, memorable characters, and a plot that keeps expanding the deeper you get, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try.
First and foremost, thank you P.E. Lee for reaching out and giving me the privilege to read your book! I am truly grateful.
From the very beginning, this book had me hooked. It goes straight into action with the twists and turns. Our FMC, Katelyn is kidnapped from the human world to the Fae realm, and during that time, magic was performed on her. Finding out that she isn't human at all and can remember her past life. I love the fire inside her. She is strong and fiesty. Our MMC, Alaric, is honestly the best. He is morally grey but only soft for her. He is patient....very very patient. The world building in here was great, the banter, the found family, and the long lost love. Incredible. There were some parts were I was confused and still kinda confused but I am hoping these get answered in the second book 😅 Omg and that ending!?!?!? I wasn't expecting that. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to dive into book 2 when it comes out!
Oh em gee!! That cliffhanger has me needing book 2 now!! This story was fresh and written well! Each chapter blended seamlessly with the next! I thought the world building was good, the banter was funny, and the slow burn was amazing!
The characters and their dynamic were great! I like how the author represented mental health and trying to calm oneself down. It hit home for me. I loved the family that was found. It showed finding the right people to have in your corner will always be rewarding.
Now I really liked this story... the loss of memories, the found family and the SLOW burn! Seriously, they didn't do anything until 85% in and even then they didn't go all the way! But the romance completely had me trapped. A past-life love come back... honestly, the yearning had me drooling. Plus, the action started straight away in chapter one and just kept going!
However, it definitely had its confusing moments. There are still soooo many unanswered questions and I still don't understand the why behind a lot of it, which left me pretty perplexed. The magic system seemed really complicated—some lands have fae, some don't and I'm still not sure who is one and who isn't. Between the MMC and the FMC having multiple names, plus all the side characters, gods' names, cities, and lands, I was totally lost. I usually like a fantasy where I'm eased into the world and learn along with the characters, but this felt like I was just expected to know it all and I had to keep rereading sections to try and understand it better.
In conclusion, while the world-building was a bit overwhelming and left me with a lot of lingering questions, the incredible romance and non-stop pacing totally carried the book. If you're a fan of high-stakes tension and top-tier yearning, Reddening Stars is absolutely worth the read just be prepared to do a little extra mental heavy lifting along the way! I still need book 2 to help me answer all these questions!!
I really enjoyed this story. I was hooked from the first word. I loved all the twists and turns that kept you thinking and needing to know what happened next. Katelyn is strong and fiesty while Alaric is fierce but a big softie when it comes to her. The world building was awesome. I really enjoyed the banter amongst all the characters. Looking forward to book two when it comes out.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this arc of her debut book.
This book is action packed, and the story and magic system are wonderful. There is a lot of world building and I did have to reread a few sections to keep up, however that is possibly a me thing! Rius definitely won me over, to start with he was waving all the red flags but it all becomes clear as you read on. Katelyn takes everything in her stride and masters her powers very quickly, and seems to fit right in to her new home even if it wasn't what she had planned...
