ARC ⭐️ 4.75
......♤.......
I am taking away 0.25 stars solely because I was not expecting the end!

First of Thank you, Maezos, for the ARC and for sharing this story with us. Being able to read Quillon and Davian's journey early was such a gift. Their story will stay with me for a long time, and I'm so grateful I got to experience it. Even if you completely shattered my heart in the process. 🤧

No but seriously, what the hell, Maezos?
I finished this book week ago and I still feel emotionally exhausted. I don't think I've fully processed what I just read. My heart hurts. My brain hurts. I miss these characters so much!🤧

Quillon and Davian felt so real that at some point I stopped reading about them and started worrying about them.
Quillon absolutely shattered me. The way she constantly felt like she didn't belong, the way she kept fighting even when everything around her was telling her she shouldn't be there... I felt every bit of that.
And Davian...
God, Davian.
That man spent this entire series breaking my heart in ways I wasn't prepared for. His guilt, his love, his loyalty, his mistakes, the impossible position he was trapped in... I understood him even when I wanted to scream at him.
What got me most was how deeply these two understood each other. Not because they were perfect together, but because they recognized the wounds in each other. They saw the parts nobody else saw.
And that's what destroyed me.
Maezos, you wrote these characters so beautifully that they stopped feeling fictional. I cried for them. I got angry for them. I hoped for them. By the end, it felt like I was losing people I actually knew.

The Maplecrest world was full of corruption, secrets, power, and manipulation, but somehow the thing that hit hardest was the humanity of these characters.
I don't know if "enjoyed" is the right word because this book emotionally beat me up.😭💙
What I do know is that Quillon and Davian are going to live in my head rent free for a very long time.
And honestly?
That's probably the biggest compliment I can give.

There were so many parts of the FMC that resonated with me🥹 her struggles with her mental health truly broke my heart. Im also a sucker for a romantic tragedy and this had it in spades.

This one is hard to review because its 3 books in one but just know you are diving into a journey of forbidden love, character building, childhood trauma, mental health representation and struggles and two people who despite having such a large age gap found some common interests and peace within eachother!

I tried as best as I could to make progress in this book, but it’s impossible, far too many slow parts, and unfortunately, with the size of my TBR, I just don’t have that precious time…

1310 pages is just huge….

I have so many mixed feelings about this work, with specifics towards significant editing needed and character inconsistency, but I’ll leave it at a thank you to the author for sharing this ARC with me and I genuinely wish her well on her writing journey.

How do you even review a book like this?

Unreachable is truly unlike anything I've ever read. At its core, this is a romantic tragedy in the truest sense of the phrase. There were so many moments where I found myself desperately rooting for these characters while simultaneously wanting to scream at them to stop. That push and pull is exactly what makes this story so devastating. Every choice feels inevitable and yet completely heartbreaking.

One of my favorite aspects of this book was how unapologetically flawed the characters are—inside and out. They aren't polished or easy to love, and that's precisely what makes them feel so real. Their imperfections make the emotional impact hit that much harder.

The setting was phenomenal. The elite Virginia law school, the old-school society, the corruption, the atmosphere—it all felt rich and immersive. Add in the 1990s setting, which is one of my favorite eras to read in romance, and I was completely sold.

This book is long. Very long. While I was entertained throughout, there was a point where the pacing felt slower for me. That said, the novel is intentionally written in three parts, which the author herself describes as essentially three books. Looking at it through that lens, the length feels much more understandable, and I almost think readers would benefit from approaching it in sections.

And please, take the trigger warnings seriously. If suicide or suicidal ideation are triggering topics for you, this is not the book for you. This is a heavy, unconventional story that will absolutely not work for every reader.

But for me, I will always appreciate a book that makes me feel as deeply as this one did.

And honestly, the dedication alone tells you exactly what kind of story you're about to enter:

"To those who use razor blades as if they were cigarettes."

The music woven throughout the novel deserves its own mention. Having specific songs attached to major scenes added an entirely different emotional layer to the reading experience. The soundtrack elevated moments that were already powerful and made them linger long after I finished the page.

What stayed with me most, though, was the author's note. Learning that this story was—and continues to be—a therapeutic and deeply personal work for the author reframed much of the experience. This was never written solely as an entertainment product. You can feel that in every page. It feels raw, messy, painful, and intensely human.

This book won't be for everyone. In fact, I suspect many readers will struggle with its unconventional nature. But if you're willing to embrace the discomfort, the heartbreak, and the tragedy, you'll find a story that leaves a lasting mark.

Closing this book, staring at the wall, I am lost for words.

This book cannot be put lightly. It is full of heartbreak, it is devastating, there is hope, and there is love. It pulled out my heart, and replaced it, over and over again. I cried, oh boy, did I cry!

I have never felt in my heart a book was worth more than a 5-star review. This book is worth every star under the sun - it blew me away! The quotes are phenomenal, heartbreaking and raw. The characters are diverse, and each have a big part in the overall story. The plot and the writing is jaw dropping!

This book is a piece of art, and we are just the viewers.

*I received this book as an ARC from the author*

This was a tricky one for me to review and rate because it’s not something I might have ordinarily chosen for myself being a romance (and specifically dark romance) reader, so my lens for this one comes from a bit of a different mindset.

This was a deeply emotional story that touches on different types of personal suffering and centers (mostly) around a romance, but with that said, it’s also thematically different from a standard romance. I liked the setup and the world, it felt very clearly defined and the plot itself was interesting, I was invested in what would happen next and it surprised me several times! There are lots of secrets to uncover in this book!

This is technically 3 books in 1 so it’s hefty. While I enjoyed the story overall I definitely felt part 3 was tonally different from 1 & 2 and the pace really picked up here; it’s what registered the most with me for what I enjoy.

The core relationship had me totally invested and dealt with a lot of my favorite elements, mainly an age gap love story and a forbidden romance, which are 2 things I adore. I was rooting for Quill and Davian and their story was beautiful and tragic on its own. You genuinely feel all the angst they’re experiencing and want them together.

The tension was FANTASTIC if a bit *too* drawn out, this is 500% a slow burn in the most agonizing way, but I was really happy with the payoff and the spice that we got when it happened and how it was written. With that said though, I wanted more spice and time together with the MCs once they were fully able to indulge. What we got was steamy but the work to get to it was a lot and without any spoilers, definitely leaves you wishing it lasted longer but this isn’t that type of book. This is where it felt different from a standard romance for me, this book definitely leans more emotion-first than relationship/spice first which isn’t what I normally read. If you’re an emotion-first reader though, buckle up!

Overall this was a beautiful story that will leave you with a lot of feelings and I’m still not really sure how to categorize it!

For one potential tiny spoiler that I do think is important- this does not have a HEA so if you go in knowing that, it might help set the tone and expectations as well.

Some books tell a story. This one feels like it quietly takes your heart, fills it with hope, and then leaves you sitting in silence long after you've turned the last page. There are books that make you smile. There are books that make you cry. And then there are books that leave a permanent mark on your soul. This was one of those books for me.

If I have to describe it in a sentence I'd say it's BEAUTIFULLY TRAGGIC.

At its core, this is a story about two people who find each other when the world has given them every reason to stop believing in being understood. They are connected not by grand gestures or perfect circumstances, but by something much rarer, recognition. The kind that happens when another person sees the parts of you you've spent your entire life trying to explain.

Their connection wasn't loud or dramatic. It was built from shared loneliness, unspoken pain, and the comfort of finally meeting someone who speaks the same language as your heart. Not everyone will understand that kind of bond. Some people will see a romance. Others will see two people helping each other survive.

Both characters carry wounds that don't disappear just because they found each other. They come from lives shaped by struggle, loneliness, expectations, and pain. Yet somehow, in the middle of all that, they become a safe place for one another. When one is falling apart, the other becomes strength. When one loses hope, the other reminds them how to keep going. The characters aren't perfect. They carry scars, fears, and burdens that shape every choice they make. They struggle with family, with expectations, with themselves. Yet through all of it, they keep finding their way back to each other. Sometimes as a source of strength. Sometimes as a reminder that they are not alone.

This is also a book that understands an uncomfortable truth. Love alone doesn't magically solve everything, but it helps us to keep pushing, keep surviving another day. Sometimes life is bigger than love. Sometimes circumstances are cruel, when finally they feel hope, believing that there's a tomorrow, but all of a sudden everything is ripped right under your feet.

I think not everyone will understand this story, and that's okay. If you've never felt deeply connected to someone, some parts may seem exaggerated. But if you've ever met a person who made you feel less alone in the world, a person who understood things you couldn't explain to anyone else, this book will hit differently.

It's about survival. About being seen. About finding light in another person when your own has almost gone out. And it's not your regular typical HEA.

Some books entertain you. Some books break you. This one somehow manages to do both.

And most of all, it's about the kind of connection that stays with you long after the story ends.

Not everyone will get it. But the people who do will never forget it.

The line that broke me

Where are you, my Blue?
– Leaking Batteries Diary

and I broke again when I came to know how the book got its title🙃

Quill had been all of that.
But above all, she had been one thing.
Unreachable.

⚠️If you ever ask the question why and wonder if , is that it? Is this how they end? Please read this authors another book series " The Blairville Legacies " and upcoming series "Botaninks". Everything is connected. The feather 🪶 will find its way back to it's inkwell.

Again.

4.75 stars.

If I could hug both Davian and Quill in real life, I would in a heartbeat. What they went through is something I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, and watching them carry those wounds broke my heart over and over again.

And the ENDING?! WHYYYY?! Not in a million years would I have guessed that was coming. I am absolutely bawling my eyes out.

I loved seeing the introduction of new characters from the other books, and don’t even get me started on the plot twists. Every time I thought I knew where the story was heading, the ground shifted beneath my feet. I’m trying so hard not to spoil anything because everyone deserves to experience those moments for themselves.

I know it’s a long book, but I genuinely hope more people give it a chance. Somewhere between the heartbreak, the hope, and the chaos, I found something that deeply resonated with me. I hope everyone who reads it finds that one line, one moment, or one character that feels like a mirror held up to their own soul.

The broken system portrayed in this book was unimaginable. It was a reminder that society is not a single face but a sky filled with different stars - some that guide, some that burn, and some that have been hidden by darkness for far too long.

Maezos,

You have truly outdone yourself with this one. Through your words, you opened a window into worlds many people never stop to see. You showed that not every story follows the same road and not every person carries the same map. Your writing is like a lantern in a foggy forest, illuminating corners people often overlook and helping readers see the world through a different lens.

I found you by chance through TBL, but after that, I knew I had found an author whose storytelling would stay with me. Your world-building, your characters, and the emotions you weave into every page are unforgettable.

Thank you for writing. Thank you for creating stories that make us feel, question, grieve, hope, and grow.

Please keep doing what you do.

Love you, and congratulations on creating something so special. ❤️

First, I want to thank Maezos for the gifted eARC copy of Unreachable to read and provide my honest, spoiler free review.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts:
Attention all readers. You need to get comfy with a blanket and some snacks before you dive on in to this book. It’s a beautifully well done combination of three books that will take you on a journey that will leave you feeling different than when you first started this book.

These characters were unlike any other characters I’ve read. The perfection in imperfection is what really worked well here. Having two flawed human beings circling around each other before making choices that might have you shaking your head, has been the epitome of this book. I truly enjoyed these characters and loved that they weren’t perfect. I’ve found myself on a rollercoaster with how I felt about these two and let’s just say I’m not mad about it because at the end of it all, these characters were real and made everything feel so relatable.

This author really knows how to reach out to her audience in a way that can truly make an impact. Along with the main characters this book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. Also, I really love that this author took the time to add in songs to chapters and certain scenes in the book. I listened to the songs while I read and it brought a whole new level of submersion while reading.

This book truly is a romantic tragedy and it kept me in its clutches the entire time. There was so many moments of uncertainty and for an author to make me feel like I was right there beside these characters trying to make sense of a little thing we call life just made for an even more compelling story. Mental health is also really important in this story and the way the author wrote about it all felt very well done and a perfect way to show readers that they aren’t alone out there. I don’t want to spoil any but if the story but just know that you should guard your heart before continuing with this story that just might leave a huge impact on you.

This one swallowed my entire being and has yet to let me go. It broke me and no, it didn’t put me back together. That wasn’t the point of this book…

Please check your trigger warnings!

It’s pain, memories, a message..
2 authors, ages apart, forbidden to be together, found home and safety in one another in a world that only wanted to eat them alive of their sanity and truth.
- “Please promise me you won’t go to wonderland without me.” 😭

I am so thankful that when I felt called to take on this arc. I had not one ounce of hesitation within me. I knew it was going to be good. It exceeded my expectations. Beyond.

I need an ink bunny now.
I need paper cranes all around my apartment with hidden messages.
I would love a tattoo of one of the million highlights that I adored from this read.

- “Because that's what I bring with me.” I stopped, placed a second finger in the dust. “Chaos.” - Quillion Veritas
- “Maybe a quill and the truth are all I have.”

I have never highlighted so much in a book in my entire life.
I’m terrified of not being able to give this book justice through this review 😅 I’m still crying while I type this for fucks sake😭
Maezos is an incredibly beautiful author and I can’t wait to dive into the rest of her books and immerse myself in her worlds again.

- “Isn't that the beauty of books? That the content often reflects an individual's perceptions? That we get to experience the recorded frequency of a perception? Doesn't that show just how unique our brains are? And does it really matter whether an author has been in that situation, as long as the scene evokes what the author wants it to evoke in the reader?”

- “When you asked an author what they were working on, you either encountered an overwhelmed wordsmith who suddenly couldn't form sentences anymore; an insecure sinner who had already been judged or mocked by others; or an imaginative child who had created worlds of words and was eagerly waiting to drag someone into their wonderland.”

I received Unreachable as an ARC. Thank you Aly for the opportunity to read your work! Here are my thoughts!

This was my first Maezos book, and WOW! Soul crushed would be putting it lightly!

“I was born with ink in my veins. Some might call it tragedy, some melancholic weakness, and others an obsession with escapism. But essentially, it formed the foundation of my expectations of this world.” -Quill

If you enjoy having your heart broken, this is the book for you! This book doesn’t just touch on dark topics, Maezos does a beautiful job truly making you feel these sensitive subjects. Even if you cannot relate to them all, she makes sure that you can understand the pain in a way that you empathize with these characters depth by way of utter devastation. Her words truly grip your heart and mind and take you the place she needs you, to be able to grasp the severity.
This is not a love story or romance. This is ruin, covered in ink, a sprinkle of forbidden happiness, lots of darkness, and a peak behind the curtain into a writers mind.

“The best books wouldn’t exist without all the pain authors had to go through.” -Davian

This book was VERY long. 1310 pages. Sometimes I found myself struggling to stay committed because it felt as though some parts felt repetitive. I gave grace because we were told this story is deeply connected to the author and I believe it was important to her to make these topics heard and do them justice, but I felt that this particular author posses the ability with words to make it HIT and it would have been done without such repetition. I’d also like to give praise in the translation efforts the author put in. I learned in the ending acknowledgments that English is not her native language. I would not have known this due to the writing style so huge props to her efforts.

I enjoyed this book, I look forward to diving deeper into the Maezoverse and watching this author grow!

Unreachable by Maezos

This review is less about what happened and more about how beautifully it was written.

The subject matter easily could have made this a heavy and emotionally difficult read, but the way the story was crafted made all the difference. The prose was beautiful without ever feeling overly complicated, allowing the emotions and themes to shine through naturally.

Maezos had a remarkable ability to bring every scene to life. Whether it was a quiet, intimate moment or one filled with tension and heartbreak, each scene felt vivid and purposeful. I never felt like I was simply reading about these characters—I felt like I was experiencing their journey alongside them.

What impressed me most was how thoughtfully the difficult topics were handled. Rather than feeling overwhelming, the story felt compassionate and honest. Maezos approached the challenging subject matter with care, nuance, and sensitivity, creating a reading experience that was both impactful and accessible. It takes real skill to balance emotional depth with readability, and this author accomplished that beautifully.

I will say I was a bit shocked when I saw the page count this baby is thick! But that doesn't scare me, bring it on! And really it's 3 books in one so makes sense

I will admit I struggled though the first half, it was a bit slow and repetitive but not enough that I thought about DNFing it was more just okay were gonna do 100 pgs and switch to something else, I was still invested i just needed to take it in pieces.. now when it hit about 69% I devoured the rest, where as the first half was more character building and laying the ground work, the second half waisted no time throwing you into a rollercoaster of emotions!

The ending threw me right off the rollercoaster into the deep end cause WHAT!! What do you mean! Why!! (READ TRIGGER WARNINGS! the ending is not for the faint of heart) Aly handled it beautifully though, she took an extremely sensitive topic that holds a lot of weight on people and delivered it with sensitivity.

Please please please read the author notes at the end! They are very important to the story ❤️

All in all this book is not going to be for everyone, please check triggers, and understand this book is a marathon not a sprint. Go into it knowing it's got some extremely heavy topics, BUT Aly did a fantastic job of making the story flow beautifully and was very poetic, and bittersweet.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy

JUST READ IT! NO NEED TO READ MY LONG-AH PARAGRAPH. IF YOU ARE HERE, JUST READ IT.

First and foremost, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC. It truly means a lot to be trusted with this story.

As an avid reader, a former ghostwriter, and an author currently working on four of my own manuscripts, I have read my fair share of books. Yet, when I finished Unreachable, I was left with a feeling that is difficult to put into words. This story managed to fill a void in my heart that I didn’t even realize existed.

I resonated deeply with both protagonists, particularly because they are both authors themselves. Their struggles, their flaws, and their joys felt incredibly authentic. The narrative is beautifully detailed, and the emotional depth of the story is simply remarkable.

P.S. If you are looking for a book that will make you cry, this is it. It has been a long time since a book moved me like Atonement did, but Unreachable absolutely shattered me in the best way possible. I couldn’t put it down and finished the entire thing in just 11 days!

“Your ink. My Veins.”

There are very few books that really make me feel something. That physically cause me to stop reading and think. Unreachable is the most beautifully tragic book I have ever read. A book that made me cry, laugh, and scream in anger. It shattered my heart, stitched it back together, and then shattered it again.

One person, just one person, has the power to change and impact your life forever. That’s what Quill was to Davian and he to her. The pain, suffering, and trauma they went through was heartbreaking. However, their powerful connection remained constant through every single moment of this book. They found comfort in listening to, writing with, and merely being with each other, even though the world around them was so cruel.

This book reminded me that life is not always kind to those that deserve it most. Although I was left completely heartbroken upon finishing the final page, I can’t help but continue to think about these two characters.

This book has a lot of dark themes. Please read the trigger warnings before reading.

I am ruined and there is no salvation.
Unreachable will forever be a book very close to my heart, the ink stain that can never be washed. If I had a thousand lifetimes, I would choose to read it in every single one. Thank you Ink Duet for making me fall in love with two complicated messy bleeding authors.

“If I gave you a thousand reasons not to jump, would you choose to live?”
“Give me one.”

Quill - She didn't bled on paper but engraved her story in my veins by a thousand razor cuts from which the ink blood is flowing and there is no Inkbird to bandage it.
Davian - He flew like the thousandth blue paper crane longing for the feather bleeding ink straight to my heart which is buried under the leaking batteries.

Waiting for the day to meet them both again in Wonderland.

"Your Ink. My Veins."

PS. I love the chapter names, it's a lost art.

"And I Know that after rain comes sunshine. You were my sunshine Davian"

So I have tried writing this review several times and each time I don't feel like I do this story justice so I will do my best ... without spoilers

I am absolutely honored to have been choosen to be 1 of the first 2 people to set eyes on this absolute masterpiece 🥹 and to have my name in the back feels unreal!

Aly got ALL my rants/theories, anger, heartbreak and everything in between 🤣

I am still NOT OK ... I think of them daily ... as much as this story broke me, it is one of my all time favourite reads ever ... I even have my own INK

I made an ungodly amount of notes while reading this ... one to track timeline and people - who was related to who 😅 and two, I needed to rant on paper 😅

Now reading the tropes you need to know that this is not a romance in the way you may think ... this is story of tragedy, trauma, pain ... where 2 people find each other in the midst of it all and try to help each other ... there is hope ... maybe?

This story made me soo angry ... the men at Maplecrest are not nice people! 🤬 I don't think k a book has ever made me so angry 😅

Quill , my Blue 🥹 I adore this woman so so much after everything she had been through she found moments of peace in the chaos ... strong willed and determined

Davian, My lost broken soul. If I ever wanted crawl into a book ... this would be it 😭

There are family secrets galore! And just when you think you know what is happening... you don't 😅

Aly's writing style is absolutely amazing... I could not stop reading it! The song choices and placements throughout the story really make it an immersive read!

It is a slow story because it needs to be ... the tension just builds and builds as you read and sucks you in. There is so much packed into this beauty and ot is chunky for a reason!

My review really does not do it justice!

Thank you so so much Aly for trusting me with your baby.

Thank you to the author for sending an ARC for a honest review. The first 65-70% took me awhile to get through, due to the size of the book (over 1,000 pages.) I found myself pushing through to finish it due to size and slowness of story due to lots of background information and context. The last 25% I really enjoyed seeing how everything played out. The ending was a shock to me, but not disappointing!
I enjoyed the age gap, two authors bonding over writing together, and the friendship between the FMC and Lara.
I am very grateful to have been chosen to receive an ARC and will look into this authors other works.

Firstly, I want to thank Maezos for giving me the chance to read this. This is the first ARC I have ever read.

I dont know where to start with this book. There were moments I wanted to cry and my body just wouldn’t let me. This is an extremely heartbreaking story and these are two characters I just want to hug.

I look forward to what Maezos writes next and I will be diving into their backlog 💙
