It took a minute for the story to get going and for me to get into it but the last half of the book was action packed and had me intrigued, the ending most definitely has me excited to see where the second book goes.
Olivia Thomas has done a wonderful job of weaving the world building throughout the book without it feeling clunky or rushed and I can sense that there is more to this story than we presently know.
I do think the relationship between the two main characters felt a little insta-lovey on the mmc’s part, which is not a bad thing just not usually my cup of tea. But boy is he down bad for her!
I thoroughly enjoyed the friendship between Maeve, Xander and Cole.
Overall, I am excited to continue this series.

I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to continue the series!

The magic system was super interesting and there is still so much more we have to learn. I love the background of our FMC Maeve - she’s a no nonsense badass and it’s so refreshing to see.

That ending though!! We love a good cliff hanger

This was such an easy and enjoyable read that I finished it in a single day. The pacing kept me engaged from the beginning, and I especially loved the gradual build up and tension throughout the story.

One of my favourite parts was the dynamic between Cole, Xander and Maeve. Their friendship felt genuine, and watching their relationships develop added a lot of heart to the story. The banter, loyalty and chemistry between them made me invested in what happened next.

The world building was also really well done. It provided enough detail to immerse me into the world without becoming overwhelming or confusing. The information was woven naturally into the story, so I always understood what was happening without feeling like I was being hit with endless lore.

Overall, it was a fun, engaging fantasy read with great characters, strong friendships and awesome world building. There’s enough unanswered questions that leave you wanting more by the end, and especially how it ends!! By far one of my favourite reads this year.

I have just started reading books and this one hooked me instantly! Easy to read and picture the scenes!
One of my favourite parts is inside the devils pass, it puts you on the edge of your seat and the author does such a good job at driving fear into the scenes.

The ending felt like a movie, seeing everything unfold was insane.

100% recommend reading this if you’re into fantasy and romance!

What to expect:
Strong FMC • Slow burn • Yearning • Dual POV • Touch her and ☠️ • Both morally grey •

Wow this book was amazing. I was immediately hooked and couldn't put it down. The good ole
'One more chapter" got me again with this book.

We follow our FMC Maeve, she has the ability to turn invisible (so cool) but unfortunately that has made her a target for those in power that want to use her.

Maeve is such a fantastic FMC, she is fierce, witty and confident and just a total, blade wielding badass 👏🏽
From a very early age, she had some horrible things happen to her, but that didn't stop her from getting shit done. She used that pain and turned into something positive. And she will do WHATEVER it takes to protect her loved ones.
I love that Maeve is not afraid to tell you what she thinks 😉

Loved that we got to experience some of Maeve's memories from her earlier years, it really added to the gravity of her situation and how much she has already sacrificed.

"Some things are worth the pain."

Our MMC Xander, even though he is the King, he is so down to earth and relatable. His banter is top tier. But he is very mysterious and keeps things very close to the chest. I really enjoyed his character and can't wait to learn more in the next book.

"Careful, I might start to think you're warming up to me, love."

The YEARNING in this book my gawd!!! This man is done for he has fallen so hard. He calls her 'love" like 50 times throughout this book and every time I caught myself smiling. 🫠
There is no spice in this book. Just sooo much tension and yearning. And I loved every minute of it.

The friendship that bloomed between Maeve, Xander and Cole, was so special. It wasn't rushed it all, it happened naturally. And wow what a perfect trio. Loved this little found family.

Cole was a great side character. The bond between him and Xander was great. They don't need to say much to know what the other is thinking.

Now the worldbuilding was so good. It was immersive, beautifully written and very vivid. I could picture myself standing there as I was reading. There was a certain scene, where I quite literally got chills knowing something was breathing right near her face. Eeekkk the suspense from that scene. And I loved how detailed the castle and surroundings were written.

The way this Author writes is beautiful, it just flows perfectly. So easy to read.

The magic system in this book was fascinating. We had Fae and hybrids and many more magical creatures. All with different abilities.

The plot was intriguing, very fast paced and action packed. The political intrigue was fantastic. The plot twists were twisty. The betrayals.... 🤯 I honestly just had the best time reading this book.

"My beautiful assassin."

I messaged the Author when I got to Chapter 34, because I was stressed... I had the most horrible feeling it was all going to go wrong. 🫣

Now that ending... wow I was on the edge of my seat and my heart was racing. I went back and re read the last two chapters to make sure I didn't miss anything.
What a cliffhanger..... 🤣🤣 WOW!

I had a feeling I was going to love this book very early on; I even purchased a physical copy before I had even finished. And I was right. Highly recommend this one.

Cannot wait to read book 2.

Thank you so much Olivia for sending me an arc copy of your book. 🩷

What a great romantasy debut from this author! This book kept me engaged from start to finish! I loved the storyline, characters, magic system, and world-building. The writing flowed really well and was very easy to digest.

Maeve!! I just want to give her the biggest hug. My heart broke when I found out the reason why she became an assassin and the things she had to endure during that time 😭 She is such a strong, bad*ss FMC who will do whatever it takes to protect her loved ones. Despite her hard exterior, she is also very sassy and witty which made her interactions with Xander and Cole so much fun!

Xander, oh how I love this man. Even though he can be a ruthless and calculative king, he's very down to earth and a kind ruler. I love how flirty he is with Maeve and isn't bothered by her grumpiness. In fact, he enjoys it and loves getting under her skin, which makes their banter so much fun! He's just so down bad for her and I'm here for it.

I'm always a sucker for found family, so I absolutely adored our little trio Maeve, Xander and Cole! I thought their progression from wary, reluctant allies to friends was done so well. Their arrangement may have started off rocky in the beginning, but in the end it led Maeve to a place she could truly call home and I thought that was really sweet. Maeve doesn't have anyone on her side, so I love that she now has Xander and Cole to check in on her and be willing to do anything to keep her safe.

I was bracing myself for the ending because I could tell what was going to happen. I still got wrecked and left in pain 😩 I need book 2 immediately!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Careful, I might start to think you're warming up to me, love."
"Maeve smiles at me and I realise that I could do this forever. The casual conversations, talking and laughing with her. This is the most at peace I have felt in a long time."
"He's trying to get me to show my hand, bait me and taunt me. I am failing his test I'm sure but she is not something I would ever gamble."
"Please don't leave."
"Why?"
"Because I don't want you to be embarrassed. It's normal to be affected by so much death and it's normal to allow people to look after you. You don't have to be alone anymore Maeve—you're not alone anymore."
"I promise, you won't ever have to deal with anything alone again. I know you can and I know you're strong enough but sometimes it takes a greater strength to ask for help."
"She's worth it to me."
"You're going to be the death of me."
"And what an exciting death you'll have."
"I will always save you Maeve, no matter what."
"Ever since I met you, I haven't been able to think straight. You occupy every spare inch of my mind, every thought—from the moment I sleep, to the moment I wake, even my dreams most nights...Gods, I was so worried that I wouldn't ever see you again. That I wouldn't hear your laugh, hear you insult me or even see you glare at me again."
⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5)
*The Unseen Blade* was my very first ARC, and I'm so happy it turned out to be such an enjoyable read.
The story follows Meave, an invisible assassin who is forced to work for the enemy king, even though she has her own reasons for wanting to return home. From the very first chapter, I was hooked. I kept telling myself I'd read "just one more chapter," and before I knew it, I was flying through the book.
This was only the second ebook I've ever read and the first one I actually read on an e-reader. Safe to say it was a success because I immediately ordered my own Kindle after finishing it!
One of the things I appreciated most was the writing style. It was fairly straightforward, which I know some fantasy readers might not prefer, but for me it was perfect. Since romance is my comfort genre, fantasy can sometimes feel overwhelming with complex world-building. The accessible writing made it much easier for me to fully immerse myself in the story without feeling lost.
I also absolutely loved the three main characters and watching their relationships develop throughout the book. Their interactions felt natural, and I found myself becoming more attached to each of them as the story progressed.
Meave was definitely my favorite character. I really felt her internal struggle as she tried to come to terms with being welcomed and cared for after spending so much of her life believing she didn't deserve it. Her emotional journey was one of my favorite aspects of the book.
Overall, *The Unseen Blade* was an engaging romantasy that balanced action, romance, and character development really well. It completely pulled me in from the beginning, and I'm already looking forward to continuing the series.
ARC EDITION RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So first of all I just want to say a HUGE thank to Olivia for letting me get an ARC edition of this book in return for an honest review.
In having said this, I am in no way biased in my 5 stars!! This is truly an amazing debut fantasy novel, with lots of political intrigue, tension, action, and adventure to different countries and cities that all felt like they had their own personalities and vibes. Olivia is amazingly talented, and this is freaking AWESOME, especially for a debut in the fantasy genre.
This book reminded me of Throne of Glass in the best way, especially the sassy FMC Maeve, who is a fae assassin with the power to turn invisible, and the corruption of the Agency that took her in off the streets.
The tension was tensioning!!! The absolute definition of slow burn 😫 Especially when... no spoilers for the ending 🤭🤭 I was actually losing it- such a cliffhanger, which is SO frustrating when it's the type of book I literally couldn't turn the pages of fast enough.
ANYWAY, THE POINT OF THIS REVIEW IS: READ IT. READ IT NOW. 😍
3 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
The Unseen Blade had immediate action and was very movement-heavy from the get-go, with Maeve consistently finding herself in conflict and faced with difficult choices.
This kept the plot moving forward from the very beginning, and I constantly found myself wondering what would happen next, never lingering too long in thought before something else would happen.
The pace was great, and the world building was easily understood. Nothing felt overly complicated or overwritten.
One thing I found myself wishing for was a few more quiet moments between Maeve, Xander and Cole. The story keeps moving through action and conflict, but I personally love the smaller conversations and interactions that let me get to know who the characters are beyond their roles. Because of that, I occasionally felt a little disconnected from them.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and found myself wanting answers to the many questions woven throughout the plot.
I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes next!
Arc review
This book completely pulled me out of my reading slump and had me hooked from the very first page. The chemistry between the characters was absolutely incredible, and their friendships felt so genuine that I couldn't help but fall in love with every single one of them. Watching them grow and getting to know them throughout the story was such a special experience.
Reading this book made me feel like I was part of the story myself. It felt like coming home! It truly was comforting, immersive, and impossible to leave behind. At the same time, it was so captivating that I could barely put it down.
And that ending... absolutely insane! I need the next book immediately because I honestly can't wait to see what happens next.
I can't recommend this masterpiece enough. Everyone should read it! Without a doubt, this is a 5-star read for me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had SO much fun with this story. Thank you so much to Olivia May Thomas for allowing me to ARC read your debut romantasy!
This was giving ACOTAR and TOG vibes in the best way. We've got an unlikely allies situation on a mission to find a specific item to assist in an ongoing war between kingdoms. We've got Fae with a huge mix of magical powers, other magical beings and creepy monsters. We've got really good banter between the main three characters. We've got no spice and a slow (I'm talking SLOW) burn romance. And the ENDING, talk about anxiety, I was saying "no no no no" sat on the edge of my seat I was so nervous!
This was overall a really great reading experience and I would recommend it to any romantasy lovers that enjoy a more plot focussed romance.
Thank you so much to Olivia May Thomas for the early copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a great debut fantasy! The world and political structure felt unique, and I enjoyed the level of depth everything was given. Admittingly, I did struggle to connect with the characters a little. I wasn't really drawn towards any of them, but that also might just be a me problem because I did pick this up during a really stressful period. The pacing really picked up towards the end, and I found myself a lot more invested in the second half of the story.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read! I'm excited to continue the story and watch how the characters develop and mature!
Wow!!! I love a good fantasy book and my god has this blown me out of the water!
The world building felt smooth and the magic system was refreshing to read about! I know there’s so much more we are going to find out and I can’t wait!
The friendship between the MCs was my favourite! They just have this chemistry between them all (in a friend type of way) that just makes me feel their bond through the pages!
The ending is sooo full of action and kept me on my toes!!
Olivia wrote Maeve’s invisibility soooo frikin well, I was shocked. I’ve never read about that type of ability in an assassin so it was so interesting in the way she used it!
I can’t wait for book two!
THAT ENDING?! Did not see that coming, Maeve!
An incredible debut featuring world politics, war and an amazing cast of characters and creatures that are central to the story of an Assassin…Maeve is caught between contracts, conscription and corruption.
Found family dynamics, interwoven with memories of those lost along the way, tug at all the heartstrings and shape Maeve into the woman battling so many ongoing fights within herself and amongst the world.
Thank you so very much for this eARC copy Olivia and for sharing Maeve’s story with the world ✨
ARC REVIEW
Book 1 in a new trilogy, this book had me laughing, crying, gob smacked and all around intrigued. Her characters, while broody, still allow you in to appreciate who they are, as well as making them relatable. You will care so deeply about this world, you'll miss them once it's over. Xander especially has burrowed his way into my heart, with his joviality and instinct to protect.
Very close to throwing my phone with that cliff hanger though.
Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys losing their heart to fictional worlds that feel so real. This is the book for you.
I have to start with the premise! You pick this book up, you'll get a badass invisible assassin Maeve who is our FMC and a King who can read minds, well, except Maeve's.
This immediately pulled me in, and the book is everything I enjoy and enjoyed. Fae, hybrids, the powers (some so unique) and the plot, it flows so well. The character dynamics is 🤌
I speedran through the last couple pages. Everything escalated, and the flames erupted, literally!! My heart aches for the MCs, we've Xander and Maeve. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I'll be waiting patiently😭🩷
OMG!! I was soo hooked from the first chapter and didn’t want to put this book down. Before reading this book, I read the poison daughter, and while I loved it, there was loads of smut and I needed to next read something with more action and fast paced.
If you’re looking for your next read and wanna support an indie author, you should check this book out.
I hate the cliffhanger I’ve been left with until book 2 but I loved the chemistry between Maeve and Xander. The side characters were well written too.
Can we have book 2 now??! 🥲❤️
This is a gripping novel that contains action, magic and romance.
The FMC is powerful and at the same time vulnerable, making her a perfect assassin. The relationship between Maeve and Xander adds emotional stakes to the story. This novel explores sacrifice, identity, and the limits of what someone is willing to endure for those they care about.
This book is perfect for fans that enjoy high stakes and emotion storytelling. This author delivers an exciting and heartfelt story.
The Unseen Blade came out earlier this week and blew me away when I read it! The world is fascinating and the magic is unique, and they blend together to make this a fantastic debut!
The characters are all interesting and interweave well with each other. The twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you wondering what else could possibly happen.
I don't know how many books are planned for this series, but you can bet I'll read every one of them!
Story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟♾️
Spice 0
Characters 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟♾️
Fae, Fae hybrids
Let me start off by saying I am furious at the ending 🤣
I am so entranced by these characters and their story. This was so well written. The banter, the fierce and mouthy, assassin FMC Maeve, the funny yet grumpy MMC Xander, his enduring and protective second hand Cole. Just all of them.
This book had me from page one. There was no slow burn to the story. It literally takes off from page one and never stops. War between the kingdoms, one fighting for control of the entire land and all the kingdoms, one fighting to stop him.
I could not put this book down!
Now back the me being furious at the ending....its one heck of a cliffhanger and I'm holding my breath, waiting to know what happens next. Will they survive? Will they ever be able to fully trust her? Will she break down her walls and let them in to see the truth?
I'll be (IM)patiently waiting for book 2!
