Stormy Day is making a name for herself in Misty Falls as a private investigator.
When her ex-fiance suddenly shows up in town, he begs for one last chance. He invites Stormy and Jessica to a luxury three-day vacation at a nearby mountain resort.
Stormy agrees, thinking what's the worst that could happen? The resort owner is a world-famous pastry chef, so the biggest danger should be calories.
Up at the Flying Squirrel Lodge, everyone's having a grand time until one of the guests goes missing under mysterious circumstances.
Now Stormy and Jessica are trapped, miles from home, with a killer... and way too much killer cheesecake. The girls must use their wits to solve the crime before time runs out and the murderer comes after them.
DEATH OF A BATTY GENIUS is book 3 in the Stormy Day Mystery series. It is a complete mystery, and may be read as a stand-alone, or after books 1 and 2.
USA Today Bestselling author Angela Pepper lives with her family in the rainy Pacific Northwest, surrounded by spoiled kitties, deer, raccoons, and the biggest woodpeckers you've ever seen.
I was so happy to receive this third book featuring Stormy Day. She is a great character. Stormy is studying to become a licensed Private Detective and lives with her best friend Jessica. She rents one side of her duplex to Logan Sanderson. Logan after much waiting asks Stormy out and none other than Christopher, Stormy's ex-fiance crashes their date. That was a real mess of a first date.
Christopher invites Stormy and Jessica to join him at his cousin's spa for the weekend. They head up and head into the craziest bunch of happenstances imaginable. There are so many unforeseen events that occur that make the story hilarious as well as interesting. Unexpected visitors arrive and wreak havoc on the quiet spa.
There is the discovery of a dead body and Stormy starts to shine as she works to piece together what exactly could have happened. With suspects around her she pulls together scenario after scenario of what caused the death. The whole time you are immersed in the strange behaviors of the people staying at the spa. There have never been a more mysterious crew.
I laughed at the antics of these guests. They kept me guessing with their thin confessions and alibis. Stormy, Christopher and Jessica work together to unravel this mystery. With all this going on Logan is always on Stormy and my mind. I can't wait to read the fourth book.
Death of a Batty Genius is another excellent book by Angela Pepper. I am so fortunate to have been given a copy to read and review. I am loving this series!
Another fun one with Stormy Day and Jeffrey. I love the 1st one the most so far but this is definitely an enjoyable series and what a way to get through a workout at the gym.
This is a reasonably OK read. I usually enjoy the Stormy Day mysteries, but I found this one to be very weak. Nothing much happens in the first half of the book, and even once the murder had been committed, I struggled to stay engaged. Am hoping later ones in the series will go back to the original humour and good plot of earlier stories.
The third book in this series was as entertaining as the first two. Although not great literature, they're fun books, with recurring characters that are smarter than many I've 'met' in other cozy series. Nearly all of the "guest" characters in this book, though, were annoying, jealous of each other, cheating on partners, and living beyond their means.
Given such a large number of unappealing characters, I was surprised at the choice of a victim, although it left the rest of them to be on the suspect list. There were plenty of red herrings, but legitimate clues as well, so it was hard to figure out whodunnit. Once revealed, the killer and the motive both made enough sense that I'll read the next book in the series.
High on a mountain, cut off by a mudslide, with a murderer running loose... How does our favorite detective get herself into these situations? And more importantly, how will she get herself out of this one? Dive in for Stormy Day's latest adventure, it's well worth the read. Highly recommended.
Yet again I didn't get the answer until it was revealed. I liked the idea of the story but felt this one was missing something. It didn't grip me as much as the rest did. I'm not sure if it was her dad because he wasn't in this one or what. I liked the lodge and the side story of the drugged smoothies. I felt that Chris was too pompous and there interactions weren't really true of ex's.

Another great book in this series. I really do love Stormy Day! And her cat Jeffrey McFluffy Trousers is one of the best written cats I’ve come across. I really enjoyed the mystery at the Flying Squirrel Lodge, it kept you guessing like it should have. I liked Stormy in action using her her skills to solve the case by herself since the police couldn’t get there due to the roads being blocked by a mudslide.
Thank you Angela Pepper for another entertaining adventure.
This book was different from the other two that I read from the same author, yet still good. We did not have a dead body until almost the end of the book.
It seemed very strange for Stormy Day to go through more than half the book without finding a body!
Also strange in this book, her ex-boyfriend, Christopher shows up while she is on a date with her new friend Logan! He is acting strange and Logan knocks him out and then drives all of them back to the duplex that he rents from Stormy and takes Christopher on his side so that she does not have to deal with him.
When she gets over to her side of the house, she looks for Jessica, her roommate to tell her about the evening she had, but Jessica is not around. It turns out that Christopher and Jessica both had a smoothie made from tainted Rainforest Delight mix made by someone who grew up in Misty Falls, Oregon and had some good friends still living there along with his aunt and uncle who own the convenience store where Christopher bought the smoothie mix.
Since the store is a popular place, many other people bought the mix and were all having strange reactions to the smoothies. Stormy found Jessica up in a tree and had to get the fire department to get her down.
The next morning Christopher is finally back to himself and tells the girls that he has a wonderful idea. His cousin, Butch is opening a new Lodge in the mountains of Oregon and has invited all of them to come up for three days to test out the lodge and see if it is all set for the opening.
What they do not know is that other guests will be there also. Some of them are also from Misty Falls too. Not known to anyone, Christopher's cousin, Butch is married to one of the four people who are from Misty Falls and the group call themselves, "Geniuses".
By the middle of the book, the body of one of the geniuses is found outside and everyone is looking inside to find out who did it.
The book is quite different from Stormy's other books, as this one she really was working with the police in Misty Falls and was promised a paycheck.
The book was well written and all the facts were good and I enjoyed it!
I liked this one. Quite a bit. Which isn't surprising given that I've enjoyed the other books in this series, but I think picking it up at the right time helped. You know what I'm talking about, right? One of those days were you're looking for something lighthearted and fun with a dead body or two (that last part might just be just me, I dunno).
Well, Stormy delivers on both the lighthearted and fun AND the dead body. On the downside, we didn't get to see as much Logan this time around. Sad. Burly hunks of lawyers with good banter should be a staple in every book. That said, I still had fun with the characters. (Side note: Logan feels like a werewolf name to me. From here on out I'm going to imagine this Logan turns into a brawny beast on the full moon.) (Side note to the side note: I probably need to pause my endless rewatching of the X-Men series until I stop associating the name Logan with beastly men.) (FYI, that last side note isn't going to happen.)
Okay. Enough about my unconscious word associations. Let's get back to the matter at hand. Stormy. Dead body. Trapped away from civilization. I'm going to be blunt, I didn't care for her ex. Almost-werewolf lawyers seem like a much better choice for her and I'm all for them hooking up. So the ex... he didn't do it for me. However, the ex did come in handy during the investigation. So there's that.
Ultimately, this book was fun with a side of dead bodies. Well, A dead body. But that doesn't sound as good, does it? Just go with it, man. Just go with it.
I think that this story is my favorites out of the three. There was just more-of everything: the plot, the characters, the delivery. Angela just did a wonderful job with this one.
If you haven’t read the previous books, Stormy Day is a private investigator after discovering she has a knack for this type of work. In this installment, Stormy is whisked away for a weekend trip with her rommie and bestie Jessica. And she is lured away by none other than her ex-fiancee Christopher. Christopher’s cousin Bruce is opening up a mountain resort and people are invited to test it out. Now what should be a relaxing weekend turns into one full of danger and mystery. A crime needs to be solved before there are more than one victim. Will Stormy be able to figure out what happened?
Stormy is basically on her own in this one. She is far away from the police so she has to deal with the help of Jessica and Christopher. Angela was able to show just how much better Stormy has become at being an investigator. I loved how she was able to figure things out, her thoughts and skills were fascinating. I just felt like this was more of a complete story with the developments. The characters were great and the storyline moved with great pace. I also loved the romantic angle between Stormy and Logan. I was happy with that one. You can’t help but love Stormy. Her personality is wonderful and I can see her as one of my friends.
Overall, this story was great! Everything from the characters and the plot were enjoyable. I was intrigued from beginning to end.

Death of a Batty Genius is the latest Stormy Day mystery. Stormy is smart and funny which helps when you are starting over. When on her first date with Logan the sexy lawyer who is renting the other half of her duplex Stormy’s ex-fiancé shows up. He wants Stormy and Jessica to help him checkout his cousin Butchs’ new luxury resort. While there they meet Butch’s bride and her friends the “Batty Geniuses”. As you can guess madness, frivolity and murder ensue. The weather leaves them stuck on a mountain top and Stormy has to figure out who the killer is. Yes it’s been done but this is so much fun you are sure to enjoy it anyway. I sure did.
I love this series. Each book is different & even though its a series, they all can be enjoyed without previous history. I loved how the murder was not exposed until almost the end & it was filled with excitement all the time. Stormy is developing into an investigator not pretending to be one or accidentally falling into all the answers. She feels real even with her personal life. She is quick witted, caring, & full of surprises. Great potential for a long series, hopefully. Excellent series & not surprised by all the great reviews.
When her ex shows up and asks her and her BFF to go on a break with him to a new resort his cousin is opening she is torn. Finally she agrees and the trio set off to find themselves a quad (the cat stowed away) when they arrive. The resort is still being renovated and besides them there are 4 more guests. Infidelity, old grudges, lies and confusion are all mixed into a plot that leaves one of the male guest dead. Can she wade through the murky under ones to get the real killer? Not my favourite of the series so far. It just seemed a bit too OTT emotionally and I really didn't like most of the characters.
I enjoyed this story. The characters were very interesting, the pace of the story quick, and the twists and turns fun. I loved how Stormy took charge and was so observant, and was willing to help two of the guests with solving issues for free though they wanted to pay. Surprises, conflicts, and a lot of footwork brought about the solution.
The narration by Tiffany Williams was again wonderful. She kept characters separate by personality and intonation. Definitely a good story, and I look forward to listening to the next in the series.
Death of a Batty Genius (Stormy Day Mystery #3) was a great read by Angela Pepper. Stormy Day has now become a private investigator. Her ex-fiance suddenly shows up in town begging for one last chance. He invites Stormy and her friend luxury three-day vacation at a mountain resort. She agrees and unfortunately one of the guests ends up missing under mysterious circumstances. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
I really really don't like the main character. She can't make up her mind on things. The mystery part was good but had a lot of in unanswered questions I thought. The other characters were ok...still didn't understand the relationship between her and her ex??? Friends???? Really?? Oh well.....happy reading :)
This third in the Stormy Day series takes Stormy and her friend Jessica away from home with Stormy's ex Christopher, but mayhem, banter and murder are on the scene. Another fun story from Angela Pepper, where the characters continue to grow while she takes us on a fast paced ride.
I recieved a free copy of this book, and voluntarily posted this review
Death of a Batty Genius (Stormy Day Mystery #3) by Angela Pepper. This was a quick entertaining read, full of quirky characters/relationships. It can be read as a stand alone book. I have not read the 2 previous books in the series and I was able to follow along with the story line. The story was entertaining but it did not compel me to buy the other books in the series. 3 stars
This is the third book of the series I've read so far. I usually become bored half way through the second book in a series. The characters build and gel, the plot twists are well crafted. I feel like each book has been recounted by a friend, with breaks for glasses of wine, good food and laughter. Highly recommended.
More characters, more mayhem and Murder. This series is witty, entertaining and fun. It feels as though I have read more than the first 3 books in the series, as Pepper gives the characters concentrated depth. I love that Stormy and Jessica’s friendship has strengthened and that the characters are so different.
This was another winner. I really love this author s humour. She writes great storylines and characters in all her books. I highly recommend all her books to everyone who loves cozy mysteries. Diana Romano
I love Stormy and all of her crazy friends plus her cat, Jeffrey. Getting stuck in a resort lodge before opening with people you don’t know and a dead body, is nerve wrecking but Stormy comes through and solves the case!
Not great but a decent story to read over a busy time. Seemed a bit disjointed and left a lot of things rather indistinct and confusing in the relationship of the 4 “geniuses “
The writing is very simplistic, and a bit choppy. Like the previous two, this one is also forgettable. In fact, I set the book aside for one day, and when I came back to it, I’d already forgotten who most of the characters were and what had already happened. On the plus side, umm... it was free.
This book had lots of interesting turns. It was also loaded with unnecessary side stories. Had the author stuck closer to the story at hand id have to end it 5 🌟. Over all of was good just seemed to rattle on and on.
This takes place in February and continues where the previous book left off. This involves a lodge, infidelity, drugs, and murder. The mystery was okay. I didn't like the main character in this book. I also didn't like the way the romance went. I wanted it to be someone else.
This book just didn't hold my interest. It felt as if I were reading a book written for a 5th or 6th grader. No depth to the plot and very superficial. The characters were "silly" and uninteresting.
