She’s secretly in love with her best friend. He’s silently pining for his. The universe is about to play a hilarious, fated trick on them both.
Natalia Bermudez has her life perfectly under control… except for her glitchy magic, her Latina mother’s constant pressure, and the inconvenient fact that she’s secretly in love with her best friend. Okay, fine, almost everything.
Max Honeywell, Miami’s top bear shifter and a wildly successful chef, has spent years quietly pining for Natalia. As a shifter, he’s supposed to wait for fate to choose his mate... until Natalia returns from a two‑week getaway. One airport hug makes his inner bear roar the Mate.
Suddenly bound by a primal connection neither of them expected, Natalia’s magic starts short‑circuiting, the supernatural council circles like sharks, and a mysterious rogue entity stirs in Miami’s shadows.
Turning “best friends” into “fated lovers” is going to take more than magic — it’s going to take trust, chaos, and one very protective chef who refuses to let anything happen to his witch.
Charmed and Shifted in Miami is a laugh‑out‑loud campy paranormal romantic comedy packed with witty banter, glitchy magic, shenanigans, Miami‑level chaos, fated mates, and a bear shifter who will burn the world down before he lets his witch go.
Ida Duque writes sweary, sweet with heat, romantic comedies and paranormal romantic comedies with a Miami flair. Actually, if she’s being honest, it’s more like loud, crazy Miami-infused romcom with bad words. Her books feature smart sassy women who love life, family and each other while hoping to find true love. Also, there’s kissing…lots of kissing and fun times in the bedroom… without an anatomy lesson.
By day, Ida is a Higher Education professional writing under a pen name, mostly because college students are not impressed by "kissing books," and she still needs them to respect her and listen to her so that she can help them graduate. She loves her students and working on campus and there’s nothing else in the world she’d rather do, but she also loves writing stories and entertaining, not to mention, her muse is very vocal (and significantly less interested in financial aid paperwork.) A pen name seemed like a good compromise.
A native of a beautiful island in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic, these days Ida lives in South Florida with her husband and two teens, one of whose future plans include becoming “the boss of Miami.” Seriously. Ida’s loving every minute of raising her but will welcome parenting tips on dealing with aspiring dictators. There were no playgroups or social activities in their area for fiercely independent teens who are also interested in political machinations and autocracy. Luckily, the mini dictator has found dance and her plans for takeover are on hold for now; her parents couldn't be happier!

Ida Duque completely outdid herself with Charmed and Shifted in Miami! Honestly, best friends to mated lovers is my absolute debilidad, so I knew I was going to like this, but I didn't expect to love it THIS much. It’s easily my favorite book in the entire series!
Natalia and Max are everything. Max is Miami’s top bear shifter chef who has been secretly pining for his best friend for years, while Natalia is just out here trying to handle her glitchy magic, her mom’s constant pressure, and her own hidden feelings for him. That airport hug where the fated mate bond finally snaps into place????? I was obsessed from that exact second
Even with all the drama going on, the supernatural council being shady, a rogue entity lurking around Miami, and Natalia's magic completely short circuiting, the book stays so funny and romantic. The plot tension is definitely there, but it never takes away from the love story. And Max? Peak protective heroooo!!! The way he refuses to let anything happen to his witch had me swooning the entire time
It’s fast, hilarious, super sweet, and full of great Miami vibes as per usual. If you love mutual pining, shifter romance, and besties to lovers energy, you need to read this jiji!
