Mating Urge is a steamy PRN read with a hot alpha shifter male and a spunky heroine!
Elliana Cage is running from the law. She is innocent and therefore desperate to get away! When she stumbles upon the Zanian IX, she becomes a stowaway. Instantly she finds herself in the room of Aran T'Kar and everything changes.
"She still waited for the special man who'd come into her life and want her. Ellie wanted to share a bond with a partner liker her parents and fill her home with laughter and happiness."
Aran is entering into the time of his muata. (Basically that means he is ready to meet his mate and mate!) When Elliana enters his room, he tries to send her away but his physical need to be with her overtakes his willpower. Ellie is overcome with emotions as this powerful man seems to want to overtake her! Ellie is a romantic and although she knows that there is something physical pulling them together, she can't help but hope there might be something more. Ellie is hesitant and yet, her draw to Aran is strong.
"I promise. I will make you feel good. You won't regret giving yourself to me."
When these two come together, it was SMOKING HOT! I could almost feel the steam radiating off of my kindle!
"Mine. All mine."
Of course, after the deed is done, Aran and Ellie are mated. Aran discovers who Ellie is and now he is bound to her. He must protect what is his.
Overall, Mating Urge was an outstanding read. The tempo was fast, the text was passionate, and I was instantly invested in both characters. Due to the situations these characters were in, the connection was everything "insta" (insta love and double insta lust)! And yet, I didn't mind one bit. The world Ms. Howard created was so realistic that I believed every word from that world. I felt completely immersed in the story and frankly, I was sad when it ended. I am so glad that I have discovered this author. I understand she has written more and I cannot wait to read it. PRN lovers will adore these characters and the witty writing!

Eliana is on the run, escaping false criminal accusations. Sneaking on board a ship might be risky, but it's her only chance. Things get a little complicated when she hides in Aran T'Kar room who's having his own issues with his mating fever just taking control of his senses. Lucky or unlucky?

It was on "OK" read for me. What does that even mean?
It means the plot or story doesn't matter. It means it was a fun steamy read that stood out because it was well written. Good erotica quality.
There's chemistry and the MC's have a spur of the moment thing, driven by attraction and all the other naughty stuff. So it's mainly about them stuck in a room for different reasons. It left a good impression but to be honest it was too short and not memorable.
Do you want to have a good time? Read this.
Do you want more than that? Then this isn't for you.
Get giddy with it! HEA guaranteed.

Sadly this was not a good fit for me. The premise was interesting but there’s dubcon related to pheromones that majorly impact both characters and the relationship development fell flat for me. Written in third person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and neither were virgins I think, it was a bit confusing on the h’s part.

You see, I think I enjoyed the little worldbuilding that we did get in this one. Though I can feel like I'm missing out a certain book from this universe but what there are, I did appreciate it. However, with shorter books, comes shorter times to connect with the characters. The mating history, wished it could be implemented into the plot but hey, like I said, it's a short book.

I read this in the anthology; Love Without Boundaries, which was a fun entertaining read from cover to cover!
Ellie and Aran. A wanted woman, framed by her murderous step-father finds shelter on an outbound spaceship. She thinks to stowaway but ends up stumbling into the room of the chief of security as he enters the worst mating heat he's had in his life. It's pretty straight forward but highly entertaining. I'd love to read more about these characters in future and maybe we will as it is peripheral to the 'A World Beyond' series and even has a few cameos from those characters. Found this one hard to put down!

This is a science fiction story involving a stowaway situation on an alien space ship. Michelle Howard wrote a lovely and passionate tale about a male alien in “heat” (my term). I loved that the author had the male experience the mating urge rather than the female. This was a very nice turnabout on what can be an oft-repeated scenario. 4*

I really really liked this one! I seriously will now be reading all of the goodness from this author. Seriously. This is one of the shorter stories but it was still awesome. A girl is desperate to flee her powerful evil step father jump on board a space ship to flee. Except she doesn't find an empty cubby to hide. She lands in the room of the Chief of security's room, and he's in full bloom of his muata- his mating urge. Oh boy!
So normally, space is boring to me. BUT... this is space- with SHIFTERS!! It was awesome. Ellie is human. Aran is a cat shifter. Of course each planet and shifter has their own names and cultures and ways of life. I can't wait to learn more about that. But anyways. Aran knew it was going to be bad. He was supposed to sedate himself when he boarded the ship. It was supposed to be a basic self imposed coma. But he never got that far. He walked into his room, came out of the shower and found her. Ellie was in his room. And he couldn't help it. She couldn't either. Together, can they not only defy odds, but keep her self from her step dad and the powers that be.
This is basically the beginning of a new series if I am understanding correctly. The next book of the series focuses on some of the side characters you meet her. And though we only get a short site of Ellie and Aran, I have a feeling we will be seeing them again. We met some of Aran's co-workers and friends, and we meet some of the people Ellie trusted and then we meet some more hot guys! LOL There's a lot left open for the next book, like meeting the parents, the mating thing, pregnancy, learning new cultures. So, I have a feeling that this is just a little bite :) Overall, I still say that I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the future and I'm so glad this one was included. Because now I wanna go and read this author's other works! I loved this one and I need more ASAP!!! :) 5 PAWS!

Liked the story ,and the characters but story ended before the story was finished...
I like the characters and thought the story was interesting ,I also loved the idea of Aran was basically a Shifter in space :) O to have a big yummy sexy kitty. Man to call my own!!! Yum!! Might sound crazy but I'm with Ellie the idea of having a man that purrs ,sounds wonderful in a delightfully sexy way ;) but sadly unlike the purring the way the story stopped did not make me happy .... They came together barely got to spend 24 hours together ( a really good 24 but not much time together) then she's taken away to deal with horrible mess with her monster of a step dad and she's almost killed then their reunited then it's basically over, and your left thinking WTH ?
They needed more time together, what about the blood tests he sent to his parents (worried about his health,mated he's probably ok but,needed follow up) what about going to his home planet for his new mate Ellie to meet his parents? Or the discussion about being mates? Or telling her she'll be pregnant soon ?
Maybe all this or maybe none of this needed to be dealt with but the book soo did not feel finished...
Fun journey that never felt like we got where we we're supposed to go :(

A short read, don't need to read Torkels Chosen first! (But believe me you want to read it soon, it was great) takes place in same world/time as Torkels Chosen. Little bit of drama, action, humor and hot, steamy sex but not short on excellent writing. Ms. Howard gives us just enough background on her characters so that we understand their actions and reactions. A definite must read for sci-fi, fantasy and shifter romance lovers. Well worth the price ( come on it was cheap)! Michelle Howard never disappoints you with her imagination. Trust me, your gonna love it just as much as I did!

This was a sweet and hot short. Aran and Elliana really complimented each other. Aran is going through his heat mating cycle and a sweet little thing decides she wants to stow away on board his ship and accidentally lock herself up with him. I felt bad for Elliana and I can understand why she jumped on the Aran boat fast and accepted him and the mating. I mean she was basically invisible, like screaming in a crowd and no one hearing you. He offered eternal love and devotion as well as monogamy I would of jumped on the Aran boat too. hot sex, love and devotion, you can't beat that.

This was a cute little book. It was almost too short though. I wanted a little more conflict and a little more story. But I still enjoyed it. Elliana is being accused of attempted murder of her step father. Her step father who she found out actually did kill her mother. The only way she can figure to get out of it is to run. So she hides on a ship that is docked and ready to take off.
She slips into Aran's room just as he is about to lock himself in his room to sedate himself during his "heat" basically. He is about to go into his mating frenzy and the best way to get through that in outer space is to sleep through it. But his plans go array when Elliana pops into his room.

This was a pleasant story although it was a bit high-level and would have been better with more details about the races, the politics, mating and the disc contents. Easy to read and understand.

I absolutely loved this book and would totally recommend it hoping others enjoy it as well. Ellie needs to escape from her planet after her she finds evidence of her step-father arranged for her mother's death and set her up for attempting to hurt him when she was just protecting herself. Aran is coming into another mating fever even though it's too early since his last time. Imagine his surprise when he discovers Ellie in his room. What happens next will delight readers as both people have secrets that can endanger each other.

This a short but steamy story about a human stowaway on board an alien ship who meets an alien cat shifter in his heat. Elianna stowed away to get away from false charges from her evil stepfather. When Aran finds her, he knows she is his mate and since he is in heat, their time together is pretty steamy. He works to help her be exonerated from the charges, saves her from almost being killed and then they get their happily ever after.

I have read most of the authors books and somehow missed this one. Engaging story and very fast read. Ellie is on the run and ends up alone with Aran who is caught up in his mating heat. He doesn't force her though, he gives her a chance to leave and she chooses to stay. I love that he is a shifter, even though we don't get to see as much as I wanted of that.
Great story, strong characters, interesting action and hot sex. More please?

I read this first a while ago in the anthology it originally came out in. Still an enjoyable read and a nice entry into the series. It works better following Rydak's Fall, as it comes after it chronologically.

Predictable but good. The usual damsel in distress who does the stupid thing but gets saved by the big strong warrior. *sigh*. I am kinda tired of the same old same old so not a great review from me.

This would have been a good four-star story if there’d been an actual editor involved. Holy crap, so many goofy wrong words and general lack of punctuation, missing commas and random periods, leaving annoying sentence fragments.
Doubtful I’ll ever continue the series, even if it’s free.
