Tough Times Don't Last: War of the Submarine: Book 10.5

Breaking out of a POW camp? No problem.
Reuniting with his family might be a different story.

Alex Coleman is no stranger to hardship and brutality. Free after eight months in a top-secret, inhuman POW camp, he’s still trying to find his feet. Freedom, while precious, is almost a stranger, and Alex has to navigate the maze of returning from supposed death while reuniting with his wife and family.

But that last part isn’t as easy as it should be. Alex’s youngest daughter, Emily, is a freshman at the nation’s oldest private military college and Alex’s own alma mater. Unaware of her father’s miraculous return from the dead, Emily is busy preparing for Family Weekend with her fellow “rooks,” never knowing that she’ll receive a completely unexpected visitor.

Tough Times Don’t Last is a family-driven novella, told against the backdrop of a perilous world war. This is a story of moments between Laws of War and An Unjust Peace and includes the fates of several characters. Like all books in the War of the Submarine series, it dives into the lasting impact of the horrors of war for both military members and their families.

At home

I found this book to be one the best books that have been written. I was in Air Force when our Vietnam POWs returned. I had the privilege of becoming a friend of one POW who spent 4 1/2 years as a POW. The human side of that incarceration took its toll and seldom discussed. I became acquainted with other POWs and the philosophy of everyone I met was they KNEW what was important. They were gentlemen in the truest sense. We who served will never be able to relate to their treatment as as POW nor the issues they faced when they returned home,i.e., too many injustices. I sure pray Gods has special place for them in heaven!!

The next instalment of this series was as good as its predecessors, even though there wasn't much sub action. The novella deals with the fall-out from Alex's incarceration and reunion with his family. A good story that closes off some left-open story lines. Well worth a read but read it in the correct order!

Tough is the Word!

Tough is the word for this novelette. It had to be so. Alex coming back after the miraculous escape was to be expected. For him and his fellow escapees/crew to wind up being, more or less, imprisoned was very surprising to day the least.

worth the wait

Waited all summer for this read, it was worth the wait to finally see Alex reunited with his family. Thanks

This book brings together the family story of Alex Coleman. This acts as a nice epilogue further first series of WoS. It is a pain to have waited so long for it and for the next one! However to finally see one of the characters get his comeuppance was worth it.

good wrap up but way too short

Felt like a quick wrap up to set up a new series of books. Enjoyed every book of the series
