The Audience Revolution: The Smarter Way to Build a Business, Make a Difference, and Change the World

Rate this book
Did you know that there's a single business building secret that is directly responsible for the success of companies ranging from Copyblogger to Netflix, authorities like Neil Patel and Seth Godin, and thousands of other businesses? That secret is the Audience the new and better way to build a business, make a difference, and change the world. In this short and easy read, you'll learn how this strategy is reshaping the business landscape, and creating the unique opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to make a massive income by making a deep and profound impact. The big idea that I teach in the book is that - unlike the traditional strategy of a lot of old-school businesses - you don't start by thinking of something to sell, and then looking for people who want to buy it. Instead, you start by finding the people who resonate with your message and connect with your ideas, attract them to you, and then - once the audience is there - offering them the things that will help them the most. It's one of those ideas that may seem counter-intuitive at first, but once you think about it for a few minutes, it's hard to imagine how anything else ever made sense. In the Audience Revolution, this idea is explained in detail, along with examples of how this approach to business has been used by successful businesses ranging from Netflix and Copyblogger, to celebrity consultants like Jim Collins and Scott Stratten, to best-selling authors like Seth Godin and Jeff Walker, to internationally renowned speakers like Randy Gage and Mitch Joel.Through their examples, you'll learn how you can apply this Audience First strategy to your online business, to get you better results faster, make you more profitable, and decrease your risk, all at the same time.

Danny Iny (@DannyIny) is the founder of Mirasee, host of the Business Reimagined podcast, best-selling author of multiple books including Engagement from Scratch!, The Audience Revolution, and Teach and Grow Rich, and creator of the acclaimed Audience Business Masterclass and Course Builder’s Laboratory training programs, which have together graduated over 5,000 value-driven online entrepreneurs.

All of this grew out of humble beginnings; he started out just like most online entrepreneurs, with an idea and message to share, and no idea how to do it. He made several wrong turns – which he calls “plot twists” in the Audience Revolution – before really understanding the Audience First paradigm, and how to apply it to online business.

And when he did, it was like lighting a match to a fuse. Back in 2011, he started Firepole Marketing with less than nothing; he had no traffic, no subscribers, no relationships with any influencers in the industry, and over a quarter million dollars in personal debt, left over from his last failed startup.

In just a few short years, he’s transformed Firepole Marketing into Mirasee, grown the business to multiple-seven figures in revenue and a team of 30+ people spread all over the world (including his talented wife) on a mission to support very special global community of 50,000+ loyal and inspired entrepreneurs.

Danny has maintained a passionate commitment to learning and transparency, freely sharing lessons learned from great successes, major challenges, and even his personal life to support the online entrepreneurial community as a teacher, speaker, angel investor, and advisor to many of the top leaders in our industry, who have Danny on speed-dial when they need help with their business or strategy.

This book really resonated with me

As someone who has tried (and failed) at product-based businesses in the past, I really love Danny's approach to putting people first. And I love that he shows us how to implement it ... at least to a certain extent. I just wish this book went a little more in-depth and didn't refer us to an outside video and blog. But I am interested enough to go check it out, so I guess it worked!

Not what I expected.

Had hoped to learn how to read the growing audience one has in order to develop a perfect first product.

I get the feeling that by having read this book, I have saved myself a massive amount of heartache in the future. Smart people learn from other's mistakes. I think that Danny has helped me to see common mistakes that thousands of people have made. Thanks to him, I'm starting off in the right direction.

I hardly think it's an understatement to say that this book may have shaved a year or more off my learning curve. I have vicariously learned the flaws in my previous way of thinking about products and services. The product or service shouldn't come first, the demand from the audience needs to dictate what you offer to the marketplace.

At 22 I feel overjoyed that I have the years in front of me to put this into practice. If I could buy Danny a coffee and thank him I would. I'm already looking forward to reading his book "Engagement from Scratch!" I expect it will prove to be of the same quality.

Seven out of five stars, if you haven't read this book yet, well it's about time!

Not bad

The one continuing message I’ve seen in recent self-help books, is the return of building an email base. It wasn’t long ago, the new wave of tech geeks and their followers were proclaiming print and emails were dead. They were dinosaurs, like me. Appears they might have been a bit hasty.

The main message is build an audience first before launching the product by use of blogging, tweeting, facebooking and a host of other social sites. The key message is, find out what potential buyers/readers/users expect from the market and build a solid email base.

Overall, not a bad read.

Iny presents the case for a shift in doing business in the online marketplace. Rather than spending time and effort to develop a product or service that people may not even want, the new model says to build an audience first. Once you know your audience and develop a relationship with them, you can build your business around meeting their needs by offering those things people want and are willing to buy. I do like the focus of making your business about serving the needs of your audience and offering something of value to them.

I had heard of Danny Iny through Jeff Goins, I believe, but he has been all over the business world in the last couple months while his book was coming out. There is a ton of good information in here and I really did enjoy reading his book, but I feel that a lot of his strategies were not useful for me at this stage in life.

I put off reading this for a little while, and I'm glad I read it, but all I can say is that my strongest takeaway from the book was that his nickname is "Freddy Krueger" because he kills everything :)

Great info, but check it out for a bit and see if he's your style.

General principles. Short on tactics

This is a decent book but leaves a lot to be desired. It covers the audience revolution in very general terms. The author does no get into specific tactics or techniques to build an audience. He spends the bulk of the book defining and defending his idea rather than talking about how to do it. Probably why it was free. There may be more tactical resources on his blog.

Great template for attracting business instead of chasing it

If you've been struggling with the approach of "giving value first for free" for your business, then you need to read this book. Danny shares his own success, as well as other big names who have taken this approach to attract business.

It's a quick easy read that will have you viewing your business approach and success differently.

Great book, mostly for nonfiction

I wouldn't say it's only for nonfiction writers. There are loads of good points though out the book that anyone wanting to sell something could use.

If you want some thoughts on how to put your audience first, no matter what stage in the game your in, pick this up.

Smarter Entrepreneurs Happier Audience

Danny males the case for having an audience first approach and treating them with the idea of the golden rule. Lots of repeating in the book and was a bit disappointed in the exercises. Concept could be any simpler and a quick read.
