“The Proposition” revolves around a unique premise: a successful lawyer invites young attorney Ben Hart to dinner to propose hiring him to be her daughter Sarah’s first male lover, with the idea that he will serve as a “sexual guide” before her daughter goes off to college. From there, the story unfolds as a moral, psychological, and erotic negotiation in which Rachel, drawing on her experience, tries to convince Ben to accept, while he wavers between rejection and attraction.
The beauty of this novella is that the proposal is nothing more and nothing less than a pretext for discussing power. Rachel controls everything: the venue where they meet, the wine they order, the pace of the conversation, Ben’s work (she calls his boss beforehand to say he’ll be out all day for work-related reasons, which isn’t true), and even the financial offer functions as a tool of power, but it later becomes clear that Rachel only wants to do this to control her daughter’s transition into adulthood—in other words, she wants to continue influencing her daughter’s decision-making. Rachel is the most interesting character: she’s incredibly manipulative; I’d say she almost borders on psychopathy. Ben oscillates between physical arousal at the proposal, and at Sarah’s beauty—and the knowledge that what’s being proposed to him isn’t right.
I have two main complaints, which are what ultimately define my opinion: first, I find it hard to believe that a mother would act this way toward her daughter, almost turning her into an object (and if, I do believe it, as I said, I have to believe that the character is, ultimately, a psychopath, and I deny to do that); and second, the fact that Rachel always has an answer ready to anticipate every question gives me the impression that it’s more the author speaking than the character herself. Other than that, I find the way the story is approached interesting.

This novella, which has lots of steamy scenes, btw, ends very abruptly. The writing is solid; well-edited and proofed, smooth, just descriptive enough to get the reader into the settings and with enough character development to hook interest. And lots of sex that is described in detail but not crudely.
The characters aren't very likable, at least not to me.
The point of the story is sex and power. It could be read as a meditation on sex and power or could be read just for the sex. I skipped those pages because I'm a prude, I guess. I don't like reading about sex. If you do, then this book could be just what you are looking for--except, as I said, it ends very abruptly.
Three stars for the writing and, sorry, just not my kind of book. If you like erotica with a story, you may like this book a lot.

In a word, Wow.
Anna Sinclaire's book The Proposition is a very fast-paced soap-operish tale with a mother's unique take on how to provide her daughter with sex education. While I won't provide spoilers here, while the story is entertaining, and I have to admit I am curious what will happen next; for me, there is a lot of suspension of disbelief. I just can not see a mother doing this for their child. My only other quibble is that some of the dialogue is repetitive. If you want to cuddle up to a steamy romance novella, this story will fit the bill, hold your attention, and leave the reader wanting to read the next installment.

I had a hard time getting into this erotic novella.
The premise really threw me off. A high powered woman lawyer hires a younger, up-and-coming male lawyer to not only to seduce her university aged daughter but to instruct her sexual awakening. First of all what mother would do that to her daughter and secondly why would her daughter stand for it? I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to even consider the ethical and moral dilemmas involved.

This is either AI generated, or heavily influenced with the regular AI markers. AI can't distinguish time differences, and the narrator mentions how he hasn't seen the other character since she was twelve and pimply, then a couple paragraphs later, mentions how they were together at a family party four years ago, when she would have been fifteen. So which is it? Hasn't seen her since she's twelve, or played a card game together when she was fifteen? Humans don't make mistakes like that, especially that close together. If this isn't AI, it has been very badly edited.
