Their Second-Chance Wives

The Night He Chose Her Over Me

Blind arrogance. Shattered vows. A hidden heir.
Is a broken marriage worth a second chance?

Evelyn
I was just a nobody designer when I became billionaire Alaric Vincent's wife. I thought our marriage was a fairytale. But to him, I was nothing more than a quiet, convenient wife to decorate his mansion.
I was wrong.
Then came our anniversary gala. In front of a room full of cameras, he abandoned me to dance with his childhood sweetheart.

When I finally confronted him, he didn't apologize. With cold, calculated cruelty, he tore down my career and my dignity. “Your talent is worthless,” he told me. “You are nothing without my name.”
He didn't know my trembling hand was clutching a positive pregnancy test.

So I packed one bag and vanished. I crossed the ocean and rebuilt myself from scratch. Now, the naïve girl he discarded is London’s fiercest jewelry queen. And I will never let his toxic world touch my son.

Alaric
I destroyed my marriage telling myself it was business. The truth? I was an arrogant coward who didn't know how to love her.
When I finally track her down in London, my entire world stops. She is powerful, untouchable, and heavily pregnant with my baby.

The ruthless CEO I used to be would have sent lawyers and called it done. The man I am now is standing in the freezing rain, holding her favorite crepes and a badly drawn lion on a paper bag, begging for a single glance.
She calls me Mr. Vincent now. Like a stranger.

My billions, my legacy, my family name—none of it matters without her. And I will spend the rest of my life on my knees if that's what it takes to win back my family.

A heart-wrenching tale of a discarded wife, a devastating public humiliation, and the ultimate billionaire grovel. This is a dual POV, high-angst contemporary romance featuring a marriage in trouble, a secret pregnancy, fierce female independence, other woman drama, absolutely NO cheating, and a guaranteed HEA.

I thought this was the second book I’ve read by this author; no, it’s the 4th. They are all bad. Skip. Do laundry or catch up on yard work. Paint a wall. Basically, anything else.
These are not made to pass your time.

(Possible spoilers ahead)

The #1 reason this book sucked arse- it never told you exactly why the hero chose to dance with OW instead of his wife on their anniversary night. It was a tradition to dance with your wife. WHY DID HE LOOK HIS WIFE RIGHT IN HER EYES AND DANCE WITH OW?

Parts of me wondered if this was AI. Then the other part stressed because it’s a “male” author and the smex parts definitely sound like they’re from a male.

For example every smex part is a carbon paste of each other.

Pushes her against a mirror
Grunts filthy words like his co*k looks good in her
Switches her to missionary mode
Switches her to “she’s in charge”
Switches her to cowboy
Switches her to side ways
Switches her to the wall
Switches her to doggie style
Again switches her to a wall

It’s like every single scene. 🤪

Anyway, this arsehole is NOT redeemable. He sucks.

The timeline never adds up. For one part, they married within months of meeting, but later they dated for 2 years and were married for 1.

The OW drama. 😂😂. Ridiculous.
I’m adding this author to my avoid list.

Don’t waste your time

The Night He Chose Her Over Me, part of The Forgotten Wives Club series, was about 25-year-old Evelyn Watson, a jewelry designer, and 36-year-old Alaric Vincent, the president and CEO of the Vincent Jewelry/Vincent Group conglomerate.

Evelyn and Alaric had been married for a year, celebrating their anniversary with a gala, when he publicly chose to dance with Isabella Lancaster, his childhood sweetheart, over her. When she confronted him, he destroyed her by saying, “Your talent is worthless,” he told me. “You are nothing without my name". When she told him they should just get a divorce, he forced her into a consensual/non-consensual spicy scene. Then he left while she slept. While he was gone, Isabella showed up under the guise of picking up some work files for Alaric. But the things she said that day were enough to complete the wedge between Evelyn and Alaric. So, she packed a bag and left the country...without him ever knowing she was pregnant with his heir.

An interesting story, with plenty of angst, drama, and the typical emotional rollercoaster. However, the conflict and push/pull between the MMC and the FMC were way out of proportion to the storyline. There were a vast number of unresolved issues, too many plot twists, and the length could have been shortened by 20 or more chapters, and would have been better for it.

I will leave the decision of whether or not the two main characters were well-developed or mature to other readers. I struggled with their personalities, their attitudes, and their ability (or lack thereof) to communicate. While some growth happened, most of it was unfairly laid on the MMC to do, while the FMC became almost unlikable by the end of the book.

The book was way too long. Just when it reached a point where the author could easily have ended it in a really good way, she threw in another curveball and sent the book back into the outer stratosphere. This happened multiple times. Honestly, I got bored with the many comeuppances that were dished out in every other chapter for the last 15 or so that remained. It was redundant, unnecessary, and could be described as overkill.

I gave it a two-star rating. That's all I'm going to say.

This was so weird and full of mistakes. Not sure why downloaded it because the title and cover seem like it was likely AI but it got smutty right off the get-go so I thought … maybe this was written by a person?” 😬.

Then there were the many mistakes. Julien has dark brown eyes with Asian features and then they are also deep blue. Adrien sees Evelyn falling from three stories up across the street but it so fast he is able to catch her before she lands the fall. Adrien goes to living across the street to across the hall to back across the street into the building which was renovated so fast that no one even noticed.

Evelyn starts calling him Mr. Vincent to Adrien Vincent after they separate. Who does that???. Nobody, thats who😖.

The gem stuff got overly complicated, so did Adrien’s business. With both seeming to fluctuate between having money and not. There was too much of this and it got boring.

This seems to me that AI wrote the book, then the author spiced it up and didn’t,t bother to check the rest of the book shrug 🤷.

I need a 12 step program

I keep reading the same books and expecting more, and getting the same. I liked this and the hero really n did love her but Isabella and his Mother were absolute evil. Very sad. Little Leo was good and I'm glad her jewelry went famous. I.liked the descriptions of the jewelry she designed. The one with the seed she did when she was pregnant sounded awesome

Notes for me

Alaric CEO of jewelry company

Evelyn - worked at company

Meet when Alaric calls her to his office to question her new designs. She says his ideas are out of touch. He promotes her to core luxury team and drives her home each night.

They marry quickly and he seems to care about her. Chapter one opens with a gala. Her dress, hair and makeup are perfect, but not her style. She has a pregnancy test to surprise Alaric.

Interestingly enough her MIL Catherine corners her telling her if she can’t get pregnant she’s no use to the family. Other family members are harsh as well.

She escapes to the bathroom and hears two women saying Alaric only married Evelyn because his true love Isabella moved overseas. She’s back tonight specifically for Alaric. She’s in crimson and Evelyn is in boring gray.

Alaric arrives and announces it’s their first anniversary. The tradition is to dance with his wife. She reaches up to him. HE LOOKS PAST HER AND CHOOSES ISABELLA.

At home she asks him why. He attacks. Her talent isn’t great, he provides a great life for her and all she does is complain. She realizes she has to leave. He never explains his reasoning.

She leaves that night to stay with her best friend Mia in London. Works with her designing jewelry.

Catherine brings Alaric a divorce decree to sign. Isabella tries to seduce him. Says her family can help financially. He signs a Marital Property Dispute to freeze all of her accounts tied to him.

Mia’s father needs surgery but there’s no money. Evelyn has been approached by Julian Gray, Billionaire who works with new designers. She contacts him back. They form a successful partnership.

She has a son and names him Leo.

Isabella causes issues and Alaric has to try and win her back.

This book was terrible. I mean it was TERRIBLE. The husband was such a dick dancing with the OW after thanking everyone for coming to his anniversary party for his wife. After announcing this, he dances the wife's dance with another woman. He leaves his wife standing in the crowd looking stupid. When she asks him why he danced her dance with the other woman, he tells her "Don't start".

Even though we NEVER find out why he danced with the other woman, I actually liked most of that part of the story. The rest of the story though was ridiculous. The heroine was preggers and had planned to tell her husband about the baby at this anniversary party, but instead she never tells him. She walks, leaving everything her husband ever bought her behind. She moves into a hovel with her bestie, and they both live selling their homemade wares on the street. Heroine is a jewelry designer you see, so she sells her jewelry and she makes enough to live on. But wait! There's more! Some new billionaire sees her jewelry she's selling on the street, and he's so enamored of it that he throws tens of millions of dollars at her to work for him.

The story time warps to the birth of the baby the heroine didn't tell her husband she was having with him. When he finds out about the baby, she's a total bitch (despite him trying to get her to come back to him through this entire story). She refuses to give the baby his name, or let him even be a part of the baby's life.

I dunno. This story has a ton of plot holes and it has a very strong AI written vibe to it. Between the billionaires fighting over this little nobody with ZERO personality, the weird timelines, plot holes, and the cringy AF filler sex; this story was just terrible.

glaring timeline errors

This story started it good but about halfway through it took a nose dive. First the timeline errors are just awful. After going back it is clear some chapters were out of order. It goes from Leo being 1 to a baby again and then from him 5 back to him being 2-3 the next few chapters. And it goes from her being 5 months pregnant to next chapter going into labor. Then jumping to him being a year old. I felt like the story disconnected after that. It had promise but it became hard to follow. I hated how long it took to find out why he chose to dance with Isabella at that party instead of his wife and what that meant Ending was dragged out too. Also Leo went from black hair and his dad’s eyes to auburn hair with amber eyes at one point too. Also Evelyn went from Auburn colored hair to copper golden curls Please hire editors for books people pay for. Just because it’s on KU I still pay monthly for them. If I bought this book as an actual hard copy I would be appalled at the publishing company to allow a story that was clearly not edited before release.

Was not a fan of the FMC either after Leo was born she had no right to keep him away from his son. Also I feel like he was not as bad as of the other MMC’s at least they had connection And that whole scene with OW at tea was so OTT. And anti climatic.

Hard to finish and needs some serious editing

Marriage in crisis with HEA. This story kept me interested. Husband was an arrogant piece of work. He believed that because he had the money he had the right to make all decisions for wife even when she was humiliated. OW drama and Family drama. Husband does grovel and earn his way back.

Pros:
-FMC shows that she has a backbone and walks away.
-FMC starts over and builds a career without any help from husband. Stands strong and refuses to budge.
-MMC learns that his wealth and family legacy means nothing to his "Common" wife.
-MMC finally takes a stand and protects his wife.
-Spice is spicy!

Cons:
-The wife kept her son from her husband. I understand keeping her distance from his toxic family and leaving his, but I couldn't get over the fact that he had no access to his son.
-There were some inconsistencies in the story and certain things that didn't make sense. Example, Leo started school he was no 5 years old. They went on a trip and put him to sleep in a crib? A 5 yr child does not sleep in a crib. Then they say he is in preschool.

Spice Level: 4

I wanted to love it but it didn't hold my attention

I really wanted to love this book but it didn't quite do it for me. Alaric and Evelyn are married and after he publicly humiliates and brushes it off when she confronts him, she leaves. I do like the fact that she is a strong character. Once she leaves she pulls herself up and builds her own life while raising the baby. I also like that once Alaric realizes what he's lost, he does anything to get them back and he does change. He truly sees her and appreciates her. I wish we had seen more of their marriage before she left. We know the family is horrible to her but it just felt like a dance with another woman wouldn't be the reason to leave. It was the last straw but I would've liked to see the straws leading up to it. The book also went a little long for me. It started losing my attention. Overall though it was a good read.

Clearly AI at least wrote or seriously wrote portions of this book. I imagine an alien or a robot would think things like this, "room-temperature soda water, and a cup of hot" were normal things to consume or putting a towel under lukewarm soup to not burn yourself. Totally nonsenseeeeeee takes and details were off. They dated for 6 months, married for 1 year, but Alaric had bought the ring for her years ago? Also, she calls herself a trophy bird?? What the FFFFFFFF is that? Does she mean a trophy wife? But, AI wouldn't even come up with that nonsense, right? That's what I find confusing. Maybe this was a translation from another language? I have no idea but the mystery is part of the fun, I guess?

Good heavens, none of it made sense.

This was brilliant. . .

The genuine, warm heart of Evelyn managed to reach Alaric before he collapsed alongside his stilted family’s legacy of stuffy, traditionally outdated and overly expensive, useless glittering symbols of that old family legacy.

The story’s full of contrasts between the pretentious world Alaric continued to be guilt-tripped into hopelessly protecting. He does finally see the light, and regains Evelyn, her trust, and is thus united with his son. Liked the story, descriptions of East London, and the stark reality of the chasm between the social classes. Highly recommend - five stars

Not what it seemed…

And eventually you learn that it really wasn’t what it looked like. But because this moron of a man failed to communicate ANYTHING to his wife, she was so hurt and humiliated that she left him.

And of course he doesn’t go after her.

I like the FMC but the MMC was a complete waste of space. He finally got his head out but I can’t believe anyone would think him a capable head of anything, let alone a CEO.

KU and not quite a five star. This was too much like a K-drama or Chinese soap that uses jewelry design as a plot device.

So long, so many inconsistencies

At first, I was into this story, then halfway through, I just lost interest and started skimming.
The number of mistakes and timeline Inconsistencies were many. Great spelling doesn't make a good edit.
This book was drama heavy and just boring towards the end.

Good Read

This was a good read but man it just kept going the frustration it was hard to like the characters at times and the story was rough in spots and slow. It was a good read but like I said the flow needed some work. I'm an Avid Reader and I had to put this one down three times and walk away cuz I was just about ready to stop reading it

DNF

Why? All I had to read was this:
“Intrauterine pregnancy, eight weeks.”

Then this 5% into the book:
“If you don't lay an egg soon, don't expect me to go easy on you. When that happens, you'll get kicked back to your Brooklyn basement where you belong, eating expired pizza like the nobody you are."

Awful, just ew

Emotional

The author did a great job creating this book. It is deeply emotional in parts where there is devastation at the time of the breakup, loneliness afterwards and eventually hope after an awakening.

A kdrama

Alright I really don't think Mr. Vincent earned his way back to Evelyn. Mia is the best friend ever and the story is unrealistic . She made 10mil and lives in a crappy apartment. I just couldn't relate to any of them.

It’s a fairly written story, but the meat of the story needed to be flushed out more. It had a lot of character placement rather than character building. Too many places where where they were at, what they were doing, what they were wearing, seem to be the main focus.

Storyline with no timeline

I liked the storyline but the timelines were all over the place and kept changing and this was very confusing to follow. I stopped reading around chapter 25. Better research and a realistic timeline would have given this story a chance of being finished.

Turn-around marriage romance

Alaric thinks he can do anything in his marriage to Evelyn until he can’t. She leaves him when she realizes he will never put her first over his company. Evelyn rebuilds herself across the ocean and Alaric has to, too.

What's with the timelines? I usually ignore everything other than the characters and storyline, but this was too blaring. Plus, the story should have ended like 100 pages before it did, it just went on and on and on,
that I had to finally skim through it.

Overall, snoozefest.
