She’s spent her career rewriting the lives of famous women. Now she must find the courage to rewrite her own.
Bestselling author Jade Morrow has built a career reimagining history’s most iconic women and the single choices that changed their lives. But at forty-six, Jade’s own carefully constructed world is unraveling.

Crippling panic attacks force her to leave New York City behind and start over in Shelby, Texas, the small town her parents once called home. Determined to rebuild her life in solitude, Jade keeps everyone at a distance—until a devastating accident leaves her stranded and utterly alone.

As the people of Shelby slowly break through the walls she’s built around herself, Jade discovers that healing may require more courage than reinvention. And for the first time, she wonders if the life she truly wants is still waiting for her.

The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow is an emotional and uplifting novel about grief, friendship, second chances, and learning that it’s never too late to choose a different future.

I was given an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of this book by the author for my honest review. Easy enough all my reviews are honest!

Before we jump into the book let's address the cover. This is probably the most beautiful cover I have seen in years!

I liked the concept of this novel. A book about about an author who wrote books about real people and events. However what if they took a different road? How would that have changed their life?

Yes I liked the concept, but, I did not care for the excerpts after each chapter. I did enjoy reading them. Then my mind would go on a tangent and I would stop reading the book and research and read about the person from the excerpt. I did learn a lot about all of them. So thank you, Vannetta, you are still a teacher! So for me it broke the flow of Jade's story. I am a stroke survivor and can be easily distracted. (more on this later)

This book centers around jade Morrow a single introvert author living in NYC. She has been having panic attacks and they are getting worse. She decided to move to Shelby, Texas. A small town that her parents had retired to and loved before their unfortunate untimely deaths. Jade had been on a book tour overseas and had not even made it back for their funerals, everything was handled over the phone or online.

Once arriving in Shelby, small town America, people just kept stopping by. What without calling first! Oh, the introvert in me felt her pain (so to say). First it was the unofficial welcome pie lady! Then her 80 year old neighbor Virginia, the mailman (why she had a PO Box), and then the minister, Daniel, who had handled her parents funeral. Being true to herself (or the New Yorker inside her), she pushed them away. She just wanted to be left alone.

Then during a bad storm the accident happened. Jade found herself at the bottom of the stairs and couldn't get up. She didn't have her phone, she had no friends, is she going to die before someone found her? She was found in bad shape and was taken to the hospital.

Virginia and Daniel decided to switch off days visiting Jade at the hospital since it was so far away. At first Jade didn't understand why they would care so much. Then friendships formed and well Jade wanted them around. When she went home their friendships deepened. I loved this part of the story so much because I seen myself in Jade.

There was a lot of story that I will not spoil for you. And YES it is a MUST read!

As it turns out Shelby Texas proved to be everything Jade needed, and Jade was everything Shelby needed.

Well done Vannetta Chapman on writing stories within this story. After finishing this novel I went back and re-read the "excerpts" of all the people Jade wrote. I loved them,

The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow will be available on July 23, 2026 everywhere books are sold. If you use your local library now is the time to request that purchase this one and put you on the loaner list!

The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow by Vannetta Chapman is a must read book. This general fiction book will appeal to a wide range of readers. Jade Morrow, an introverted best selling author suffering from panic attacks, moves from New York City to Shelby, Texas in an attempt to reset her life and alleviate her debilitating panic attacks. Jade's journey from an isolated introvert to an involved member of the community with a circle of close friends is a compelling read. As always in her books, Ms. Chapman's characters are very well developed and grow throughout the story. These are characters that you can relate to and will care about. The novel focuses on Jade's transformation and also on her developing friendships with her 80 year old retired librarian next door neighbor and the pastor of her parents' church.

The snippets from Jade's fictional reimagined lives of famous people interspersed throughout the book are well researched and very interesting. At first I thought the concept of a fictional reimagined life of an actual person seemed a bit odd but, after reading these snippets, I would have enjoyed reading more about Jade's reimagined lives.

The cover art is just beautiful. Pre order a copy today or purchase on the release date of July 23, 2026. You can also request the book from your local library. You will be glad you did.

I received an uncorrected Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the author. I was not required to leave a review. All opinions are my own.

This is such a good book!! Jade decides to move to Shelby, Texas after she starts having panic attacks in NYC. Before she leaves, she also starts seeing a therapist, so she continues via Zoom meetings. Her therapist tells her she needs to have friends, and Jade knows she's always kept everyone at arms length. She's not too excited to try to change that. When Jade finally arrives at her new home, she finds out that her Virginia is her next door neighbor. Jade's not in Shelby long before she has an awful accident, and realizes that she may not survive. However, thanks to Virginia, she does, and she realizes she needs to make changes in her life. Jade finally lets Virginia, Daniel, Abby, and others into her life, and realizes that she's much better off for it. Virginia realizes that just because she's in her 80's doesn't mean she also has one foot in the grave. Daniel also realizes that he has some things to do, too. Love how this book shows that we can be friends with people of all ages, and with members of the opposite sex. Jade also comes to realize that she needs God, even though she's not quick to embrace faith. Love how Jade came to realize that keeping everything in is not healthy, that you need friends that you can share life's disappointments with, and that you will survive them, and your friends can help you through.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

This is the first book I read from Vannetta that was a bit of a different genre from her other books I’ve read. I really enjoyed it very much. I’m an introvert so I could really relate to Jade. But what I loved was watching her change, and the friends that she chose to be close to helped her. I also really liked the question of the “what ifs”. Vannetta did an excellent job researching all the famous people she mentioned. It was educational and a lot of new information to me. And the character of Virginia, was such a wonderful person. I would imagine if she were a real person, you would never know how old she was. I don’t think authors give enough credit to older people, especially women. I think they are counted as nonessential human beings. So, I love this character a lot. She’s one of those people that’s like the energizer bunny that never stops. I love the way Virginia mentors and loves Jade. I like Daniel’s role in the story also. As a pastor, he is kind and a gentle shepherd to his flock. I’d love to visit a little town like Shelby, the one used in the story. Makes me wanna go to Texas.
I would highly recommend this book. I don’t know how Vannetta cranks out so many outstanding books. I love her mysteries and Amish books too.
But then I always say, “I’ve never read a Vannetta Chapman book I didn’t love!”

The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow is a delightful departure from Vannetta Chapman’s other novels. I easily related to Jade Morrow, a thoughtful introvert who is slowly drawn into the warm and welcoming community of Shelby, Texas. The residents are a friendly, caring group, and before long Jade finds herself surrounded by a close circle of friends. As she gets to know her librarian neighbor and the local pastor, the story gently explores the beauty of friendship, personal growth, and meaningful connections across ages and backgrounds. The characters are well developed, with room to grow in ways that feel natural and hopeful. One of the recurring themes asks an intriguing question: if you could change one pivotal decision from your past, would you—and how might that change shape the rest of your life? Jade’s novels, which reimagine the lives of iconic women, add a unique touch through excerpts included after each chapter. Along the way, Jade learns important life lessons that are both heartfelt and inspiring. The Reimagined Life of Jade Morrow is an uplifting, feel-good story that left me smiling.

Jade Morrow is a famous author. She writes of famous women and if they had made different choices. Had Martha Stewart become a scientist/engineer instead of a cook? Jade is very introverted. When she starts having panic attacks, she decides to move to Shelby, TX where her parents had retired to. Her parents had passed away a few years ago so she hoped this would help her feel closer to them. As she lives in the small town, neighbors speak to her, bring her welcoming gifts, etc. She is not used to people being so friendly to her. She is rather cold and distant. When she breaks her hip, her 82 yr old neighbor and the local pastor who is close to her age, take care of her. As Jade heals from past hurts, she begins to bloom. Each chapter of the book tells a brief description of someone making a different choice.

I laughed, I cried, I checked out books that were referenced... There's a complexity and a feeling to the story of being so personal, like you're reading journals. I feel there are bits of the author in the story as well.
Jade, the main character of the story, is an author of books that reimaging famous people's life if they had taken a different road. That concept is kept front and center throughout the book by starting each chapter with excerpts are from books Jade had written. I will admit that initially I was taken back by them but then began to enjoy the little historical information and a snapshot of Jade's writing, and her thought process. Not all other roads lead to a happy ending.
Intertwined with Jade's story is the story of her neighbor, Virginia. Virginia is dealing with growing old, fears and how to stay connected with family. Daniel, a local pastor, also plays an important part in the story in defining friendship and the benefits that come from friends in your life.
Of course there are surprises throughout the story. As a reader you get to see the transformation that takes place in Jade's life as well in the lives of the people around her that she opens up to.
I received an advance copy of the book free from the author and this is my honest review.

I have read a lot of Vannetta Chapman's books, but this is absolutely my favorite one so far. Wonderful characters. The book is set in a small Texas town where everyone knows everyone. Jade is a famous author from New York City that recently moved to this small town. The recurring theme of this book is if you could change one thing in your past, would you? This theme is told in many different stories throughout the book. It's so interesting. I was very intrigued by the subject matter and the way this book was written. It will grab your attention from the very beginning. This book releases on July 23rd. Such a good read!

Jade writes fictional new life stories about famous people. What could happen if a person chose a different path at a pivotal point in his/her life? Jade also makes a pivotal change in her life, moving from New York City to small town Texas.
The story leads the reader to reevaluate pivotal times in the past. How would your personal story change if different decisions had been made at various points?

I love the book, though the New York intro seemed slow. Once the main character, Jade, was in Texas, the book flew! I felt invested in having her fit into the community and find a life.
And the reimagined lives she wrote about were mini books in themselves. I would read a whole book about each one of them.
A great read!

I really enjoyed this story of Jade, who slowly changed her life. Even though she is an extremely successful author, her personal life was lacking. It was nice to watch her evolve with the help of her new friends. I received an advance copy of this book for free and this is my honest review.

Vannetta’s best work yet. Terrific variety of characters and a fascinating, unique subplot. One of those books that I didn’t want to end. Anticipating the next book in the series.
