A surgeon with a god complex. An attorney with zero patience. One reckless moment that changes everything…
I don’t do impulsive.
I do order and structure. I do airtight arguments and depositions that make egotistical surgeons sweat. Protecting the families of Hobie, Texas, is my job—and I’m damn good at it.
Which is why dragging Dr. Xavier Rhodes into a dark, empty hospital room is… wildly off-brand for me.
Xavier is everything I avoid. Arrogant. Smugly gorgeous. Infuriating at every turn. And unfortunately? A brilliant surgeon with hands capable of things I absolutely should not be thinking about.
Our “one-time” lapse becomes a habit—hot, stolen moments between two men who don’t have time for anything real. It’s messy. It’s addictive. And it’s the most alive I’ve felt in years.
But when a life-or-death emergency throws us together, the truth hits I can keep the careful life I built… or risk everything for the complicated man I can’t walk away from.

I write M/M romance with humor, heart, and heat. Check out my backlist here on GR for a selection of series and standalone or visit www.LucyLennox.com!
I only keep a small list of my very favorite books and series in my bookshelf here. I read A LOT and it's hard to keep the list updated!
This was originally part of a promotion and so I’m not mad about how “brief” it is but I really, really enjoyed it and wished it was longer. Animosity to lovers is top tier and I enjoyed watching Xavier and Hon verbally spar and get each other so riled up that tension only had one way to get out 🥵
Surgeon x lawyer I can’t stand you -> addicted to you Short but with a years later epilogue ❤️
2.5 stars Maybe it's because i haven't read the mais series and the side characters mean nothing to me (nor the mcs to be honest) Maybe because it's a short novella Maybe it's because usually I don't really click with Lennox's books But this story didn't work for me in any way.
When it comes to any books connected to the Forever Wilde series, I want them to be as long as a thesaurus😆 I can’t get enough of that series and Honovi and Xavier made me miss it.
I love the getting off on the wrong foot tropes and these two couldn’t have started it worse than they did. Xavier’s arrogance really grated on Honovi’s nerves but he couldn’t deny the doctor was all kinds of hot.
Xavier loved riling up Honovi just to see him lose his cool. For some reason he enjoyed seeing him fluster and wanted to do it as much as possible.
When the tension between them boils over, it’s hot and so, so sexy. Xavier knows that after their first encounter, there’s no going back for him. He wanted Honovi for however long he could have him. There’s just something about him that Xavier couldn’t get enough of.
Honovi didn’t want a relationship. Especially not with the infuriating doctor, but one encounter turned into many to the point of those not being enough for him to enjoy Xavier. It wasn’t supposed to happen, but he fell and he fell hard.
When Xavier’s life is in danger, that’s all Honovi needs to accept what had been obvious for a while: he was in love with Xavier.
Facing a life or death situation put things in perspective for Xavier. He loved Honovi and he wasn’t letting him go. He had finally found the one who could challenge him in every turn and still get him all hot and bothered at the same time.
‘He was handsome, yes - maybe even ridiculously unfairly handsome…’
Prolific author Lucy Lennox has published over fifty books to date with an overall theme of MM ‘romance with humor, heart, and heat.’ She has an accomplished skill for crafting memorable characters who make a lasting imprint on the reader especially in this collection of Forever Wilde short stories.
Lucy understands the art of seduction, literary style, and she proves that in her synopsis: ‘A surgeon with a god complex. An attorney with zero patience. One reckless moment that changes everything. I do order and structure. I do airtight arguments and depositions that make egotistical surgeons sweat. Protecting the families of Hobie, Texas, is my job—and I’m damn good at it. But when a life-or-death emergency throws us together, the truth hits hard: I can keep the careful life I built… or risk everything for the complicated man I can’t walk away from.’ Read one of Lucy Lennon’s novellas and you’ll be hooked – and satisfied!
I loved this heartwarming and spicy short story of finding love when you are not looking. Honovi is a family practice lawyer in small town Hobie. After a bad relationship he’s not interested in dating. Xavier is a surgeon and new to the town of Hobie. For similar reasons he is not interested in a relationship. Despite this, Honovi and Xavier are attracted to each other enough to be a bit snippy when they first meet. An HEA is of course possible with a bit of baggage unpacking and truth telling. Despite being short, this short story was well written and included three dimensional characters and an engaging storyline. Now I need to reread Facing West since this story happens in the middle of that one.
I had a blast reading this, which is why it makes me sad that it's just a short story. It would've been so good as a full-length novel. The characters were so interesting and fun. I wanted to see more of them. I was really dissapointed that we didn't see them fall in love. We just went from friends with benefits to being in love. I get that it's a short story, but we could've had at least one extra scene in between the time skip to show why they developed feelings for each other or how they got closer. I still loved them together, they had amazing banter, but the feelings part is important for me in books, otherwise it's a little harder for me to believe/get fully invested in the romance part.
Even without reading the Wilde series of books, you’ll be able to follow and enjoy this book.
This was such a fun and sexy short read. I will reread this and listen to it many times. Doctor and lawyer with their own hangups, but not too much angst. Low angst and sweet characters. The witty and smart byplay between the characters is wonderful. Loved the interaction and just overall intelligence of these two men.
Great and sexy read. Another 12 out of 10 for Lucy. I love her novellas for a quick read between books. They are full stories and never have I felt robbed or felt like it was a rushed plot. Winner! ❤️
This was a short quick that I realized that I read it before. Honovi Baptiste life is order and control while doing a favor for a friend and interview Dr. Xavier Rhodes. These two begin hooking up and catching feelings. This book moved fast and we really didn't get any kind of backstory Hon grew up in Hobie and Xavier moved to town in his senior year of high school. Neither one of them want a relationship and Honovi is keeping Xavier at arms length because he doesn't want to be hurt. When Xavier is taken hostage in the hospital Hon realizes his true feelings for Xavier. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.
This short mainly took place during the first Forever Wide story with an epilogue that leaped past the last. It is these shorts about small side characters that really flesh out Lucy Lennox story worlds. Honovi is working with Dr Xavier Rhodes to prep him for a law suit that is coming up. They sort of instantly get on each others nerves, but there is an undercurrent that build each time they spend time together that finally overflows into the desire you could see from a mile off. They fit so well together once they get over themselves. Another great short from the master storyteller.
I have not read the Forever Wilde series but, I did enjoy this short story. Honovi and Xavier’s story was cute and sexy. I loved that Xavier pushed Honovi’s buttons just to see him flustered and watch his cheeks redden. The no-strings -attached $3x was funny because we knew both men were hot for each other and were eventually going to admit it.
***** POV… multi first person
Standalone or series… novella from a series but CAN be read as a standalone
Great novella, enjoyed these two and their animosity to lovers. Both looking for the same thing but they thought it wasn’t the right time. The chemistry made the decision for them. Honovi & Xavier are great together.
I really enjoyed this short novel. The main characters were well-developed, and the story was interesting, but it was a bit too short for me. I wish it were longer, but I still like it. It’s perfect for a short, cozy read.
I love the revisit again to the Wilde family and I loved this story and the quirky title is perfect I hope there is more to come. I highly recommend this book but to enjoy it more start at the beginning of the Wilde family books.
After a bit of a slow start, for me anyway, this picked up into a read both amusing and frustrating. It's a shortish read but very enjoyable with its cast of quirky characters.
What a great glimpse back to Hobie TX and a couple of characters I’d almost forgotten from the Forever Wilde series. Hon and Xavier are lovely together and the epilogue was perfect!
