The EMP was the beginning. The hurricane may be the end.
As Hurricane Nestor tears through Central Florida, The Villages faces its darkest hours yet. Floodwaters rise. Infrastructure collapses. And the perimeter that kept them safe begins to crack as authorities are forced to choose who gets saved—and who gets left behind.
John Turner thought he understood the threat. Then his estranged son walked out of the storm. Rob O'Brien escaped Coleman Federal Prison during the hurricane evacuation. He survived by falling in with Silas Crowe—a man who isn't just surviving the collapse. He's replacing what collapsed. Checkpoints. Territories. Medicine as currency. Fear as control. While others scramble to preserve the old world, Silas is building the new one.
Now Rob is trapped between the father who abandoned him and the man who showed him how power really works. John is running out of time to stop an enemy who's always three moves ahead. And in the flooded ruins outside the perimeter, a sixteen-year-old boy watches his grandmother die and learns a brutal truth, the people who were supposed to help aren't coming.
The hurricane will pass. What rises from the water won't.

Paradise Broken, book 3 in the outstanding Dark Paradise series, takes all the suspicion and internecine fighting between Daniel's crew and John's group and adds the complications of a hurricane and concurrent prison break. As waters that shouldn't fill flood, the attacks start. The book is nearly constant action, but still highly character driven. Several characters have surprising arcs, to say the least! The writing is beyond good, characters, plot, pace, action, all perfectly executed. Overall, 5/5 stars, highly recommended to fans of post-EMP thrillers, apocalyptic survival thrillers, disaster thrillers and good thrillers, period! This is one of the standout post-EMP thriller series this year, with dynamic characters and complicated relationships and motivations that other series, even most of the best series, lack!
This is a well written story that's unfortunately, the way people will take advantage of the older, less able to fight back, seniors at a time of great danger such as natural disasters! I hope it never happens as I also live in a retirement community! And hope it never happens! Gary 🇨🇦
