A video of me kissing a firefighter has twelve million views.

Two days ago, my apartment building caught fire in the middle of the night, and a firefighter carried me and my little boy out.

He laid us down in the grass, and I was so overwhelmed that I grabbed his face and I kissed him.

But someone was recording.

By morning the video had twelve million views, and every single person in my town had seen it.

Last night, a news crew showed up at my apartment asking for an interview about "the kiss that broke the internet."

I told them to leave, but they kept shoving the cameras in my face, with my son hiding behind my leg about to cry.

Suddenly, a truck pulled into my driveway and the firefighter who saved us stepped out.

He walked past the cameras, completely ignoring them.

Then scooped my son up with one arm and put his other hand on the small of my back.

He looked into the camera and growled,

"She said no. Now get off her property."

I was really enjoying this one until about the last 10% when the writing turned into a hot confusing mess. Events were referred to out of order, a cousin was referred to as a sister, the same phrases were repeated over and over again. It was going to be a 4 or 4.5 star read for me until the last section when I really had to shake my head more than a few times.

Hannah Sparks does it again

Hannah Sparks has crafted another great firefighter story with Never Alone. You will love Cole and Tessa. This book pulls you into their world and holds you there until the very end. I love the gentle romance Hannah writes. Hannah has become a favorite author.

The way

First, this was a great premise for a story. More melancholy than your typical romcom, this one was all seriousness. There are very heavy themes, but the story, at its core, is a good love story.
But my word, every other paragraph was "the way" this and "the way" that. He drove the way he drove. She smiled the way she smiled. Literally every description was "the way", even when it was unnecessary. One sentence was, " The room held its breath the way a room holds its breath when its empty. Except it wasn't empty. She was in it." What? First, it means nothing. Rooms don't have breath and the gratuitous repetition ruined any poetic meaning it might have had.
Anyway, that was 300 something pages of my life I won't get back. I only kept reading to see how she thwarted her ex, and that was disappointing, too.

I was frustrated by this book. I love the premise, but the whole plot and also the characters just seemed to amble along waiting for things to happen. The relationship between Tessa and Cole felt very awkward and they left so much unsaid that it seemed a little unbelievable that they could even develop a relationship. Strangely, it felt like Cole’s relationship with Tessa’s son was more developed than his relationship with Tessa.
I also may have made a mistake by not reading the first book in the series. Maybe I would have felt less lost with the side characters if I had started with the first one.

If you are someone who wants an unhurried plot, this one could be for you. The action does eventually pick up and those parts were great.

AI concerns?

I was really enjoying this up to a point, but then I started to notice how repetitive it got. A lot of sentences were phrased the exact same way; I lost count of how many “it was… in the way that…” sentences there were in the book. There were also pieces of information that didn’t line up, like Cole mentioning he’d only met someone a couple times, then he was later introduced to the that character for the first time. Or a cousin later being referred to as a sister.

Also, I checked the author’s Amazon page and she’s released 11 books in 2026, and there was no evidence of her existing prior to this year. All her social media pages were created in January 2026.

The story had potential… it was just executed poorly… it wasn’t believable at all… a 34 yr old HOT male firefighter never been kissed?? I kept hoping it would get better but sadly it never did. It was boring and there were several changes to facts that changed in the book…. Like once he was 3 when his dad died, then it said he was 5 when he died, then 3 again…. It said he didn’t meet Sam and Jamie until after they were married which wasn’t true , he knew them before they were even technically a couple….

I need to remember that while I like the story, I don’t care for the authors style. “She had the look on her face she had when she was about to say a thing she had been waiting to say. She had walked across the porch the careful way an aunt walks when she has been holding a thing inside of her all afternoon, and the porch is the first room of the night that is empty enough for it. She had her face in the small set she got before saying a thing she had been saying inside her head for a long time.”
^ a lot of lines like this.
I get it, I just don’t care for it.

You are the community of people who love you. Lean on them when necessary and trust their strength!!

The characters are molded slowly by their emotions and experiences over decades. Each person having others who change the way they act, believe and move forward. Depending on others can be critical, but knowing who you need to be is even more important. The path is never smooth, the road is never certain, but the reward is always worthy. Great story!!!!!*****

characters that can communicate is wild

the mmc reads very autistic coded, which can lead to a lot of thinking around feelings instead of actually feeling them but it also leads to paying attention and communicating when things happen.

its very low angst for a high angst topic.

minimal spice, more fade to black, found family, HEA

sequel delivered!

Loved the way the story unfolded. Well written and compelling. Characters were believable and kept my interest. Nearly seamless sequel with the exception of the timing of the bbq at end of first book and the first on in second. All in all a great read.

Emotional read

Have a box of tissues close by when you read both the Never Letting Go books. The subject matter is serious & heart wrenching. Loved the characters.

Boring. He talked more to us than develop a relationship with her. I guess you should other books first. There are a lot of people here.

Note to self: It took a while to get through.

So good

Honestly a great sweet read. An MMC that wishes more men like him existed and a very relatable FMC. Perfect summer reading

1.5 I guess. I finished it despite it being a chore. Lack of character development, choppy writing, plot was messy. The sheer use of hyphens throughout the book made me want to rip my eyeballs out.

Sweet romance between a woman escaping a bad marriage and a silent firefighter that falls in love with her.

I absolutely loved it.

One of those books that looks like it's going to be a cute romance and then completely sneaks up on you with how much heart it has. I fell for these characters almost immediately. The chemistry was there, but it was the tenderness between them that really got me.

The author writes relationships so well. Nothing felt forced. I believed in them, I wanted them to find their way to each other, and I was smiling for most of the book.

Super warm and romantic. I finished it with that happy little feeling you get when you've spent time with characters you're not quite ready to leave.

An easy five stars from me.

I enjoyed the story, the characters and the overall theme. I would have given this a 4 star but the amount of times the author used the same phrases over and over again. It was annoying in the way reading a book with the same phrases would be annoying. If I could give this a 3.75 I would, like I said the story was good, the characters were likeable and relatable. Overall it was a good read.
