I was under the impression that this had letters exchanged by the main characters and it was truly set during this time period. However, it was a story like a time slip from our time to the past whilst trying to get back to the present.
So this is a me problem since I don't like those types of stories but if one is a fan of that, then this would definitely be a book for you.

I really wanted to love this book because the premise sounded incredible. A married couple, Hanul and Jiwan, being transported into the world of a fictional Joseon-era drama felt like such a unique concept. I was expecting a heartfelt marriage-in-crisis romance wrapped in a historical fantasy setting. Unfortunately, the execution never lived up to that promise.
Very early on, I noticed that Hanul seemed to have more chemistry with almost every side character than she did with Jiwan. For a romance centered around rebuilding a marriage, that was disappointing. I kept waiting for meaningful interactions between them, but they were surprisingly few and far between.
As the story progressed, my biggest issue became impossible to ignore. Hanul and Jiwan felt like side characters in their own novel. I understand that they are supporting characters within the fictional drama they are transported into, but this is still supposed to be their story. Instead, I spent far more time reading about the drama's characters and conflicts than about the couple I actually picked up the book for. The background plot completely overshadowed the romance.
When Hanul and Jiwan finally started interacting more and even went on their first date, I thought the story was finally turning a corner. Sadly, that wasn't the case. Every time the narrative returned to their marriage, the momentum dropped because the drama's storyline always carried higher stakes and received much more attention. Rather than complementing each other, the two storylines felt like they were competing for space, leaving me unable to fully invest in either one.
I also struggled to connect with their marriage. I understood that their relationship was broken, but I never felt like I truly understood why. Hanul shared some of her frustrations, but Jiwan's perspective was never explored deeply enough for me to empathize with him. Even this far into the book, they still had not had the honest, emotional conversations I had been waiting for. Their relationship lacked the vulnerability and emotional depth that a marriage-in-crisis romance needs.
The pacing did not help either. Even though I managed to read more than half the book in less than fifteen hours, it still felt incredibly slow. It wasn't because nothing was happening. It was because the story kept focusing on everything except the part I cared about most. I constantly felt like I was pushing myself to read instead of the book making me want to turn the next page.
By the time I reached 76%, I realized I was reading out of obligation rather than enjoyment. I loved the premise, but the execution simply did not work for me. If you're more interested in historical drama and political intrigue than romance, you may have a better experience.
Personally, I came for Hanul and Jiwan's journey of rebuilding their marriage, and that aspect never received the attention or emotional depth I had hoped for.
Sadly, this one just wasn't for me.

As a huge fan of K-Drama’s I was so excited to read this book! I loved this book so much, it was such a beautiful story and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I loved the characters so much, the two leads had such strong personalities I instantly felt connected to them. Seeing their interactions and their growth throughout was amazing and I rooted for them both from the start. The other characters brought so much to the book too and I loved the whole group and the interactions they had with one another, I had so many favourite characters! They were all so likeable and had distinct personalities that stood out and made me fully invested in each of their stories.
The plot itself has so much to it (I won’t spoil what!) but this has so much more than just romance. The story is so beautiful and heartwarming and the message behind it is so meaningful. I loved the authors note at the end as well explaining real life history and culture as it just added another layer to the book. It had the perfect balance of humour, sweet moments and drama and combined it made for a super enjoyable book that was really hard to put down.
The authors writing style is beautiful and feels so immersive, I felt like I had been transported right back in time with them! Everything was captured so well from settings to characterisation to emotions felt and it made the book feel so engaging to read and had me smiling at several times throughout.
Overall this was an amazing book and I’d definitely recommend it! I’ll for sure be keeping up with any possible future release by this author!

Right off the bat, I found the writing in this so so beautiful. I love the descriptions, the details, the thought that went into setting the scenes and emotions both in the modern times of 2028 and in Joseon Korea of 1588. There were times where the switch of scenes confused me, and moments where the timeline went back and fro abruptly. Otherwise, it was an overall lovely read.
This book reads like a k-drama, and reminded me of the times I binged historical k-dramas non-stop, cooing over the main couples and complaining about villainous schemes. Likewise, while there's cliches that make me cringe while reading, there were also cliches that made me kick my feet in giggles. I enjoyed that there was a fair bit of action in this one too!
I appreciate that this romance centres around our main couple who has been married for seven years and are now facing some tensions: their spouse of seven years has changed from the one in their fond memories, there's disappointments and frustrations. This story follows Hanul and Jiwan as they relearn ways to love each other.

Like all my favourite dramas, it had some fun twists, some moments that had me mad at someone, then happy with them, and I just loved the adventure that we went on with Jiwan & Hanul and the new characters you got to meet in the drama/game that Hanul & Jiwan were put into. A bumpy start when they first got there, but they definitely handled it a lot better than I would have.
I really loved the historical context of the story and how it was used to showcase that there's always two sides to every story and that while you may think you know everything, you really don't. Such a great way for Hanul and Jiwan to work on their relationship and the issues they have been facing in their future lives.
The ending had me almost crying cause what do you mean after all that they almost don't go back to their lives to be with their kids??? Don't do that to me .
Overall though, a fantastic read and such a great debut novel!

This was my first Jasmine Jinhee novel, and I enjoyed reading it.
Page turner and highly recommended if you are a fan of historical k-drama.
At first I was hesitant to continue because of the miscommunication trope, but the author has written it well that it didn't bother me so much.
It also gave me Solo Leveling vibes (when the husband needs to complete tasks assigned to him).
It was a wonderful read for me.
But I was kinda expecting for the couple to have more emotional conflict since it was compared to Go Back Couple.
‼️ Even though there was no open door romance, there were a few words that would give imagination to the reader. So for me, I would recommend it to married people.
There were a few profanities.‼️

Thank you so much Jasmine Jinhee for this ARC of Hearts on Hanbok Sleeves. Immediately laying eyes on the cover alone, I knew this was going to be something I enjoyed. Not only was the premise SO creative but this was such a heart wrenching and emotional story about marriage and parenthood. It immediately read just like an historical k drama. Which I absolutely loved. It seamlessly wove in and out of everyone’s perspective much like scenes in a tv show. It emphasized the importance of communication, and teamwork in relationships and marriage. It was refreshing. I hope this book becomes a kdrama. As I already have my dream cast in mind. 너무 너무 감사합니다

I had the privilege to get early access and read the first half of the book. I was a little hesitant because of the Korean drama/romance theme but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading! I thought the dynamic of main characters were very realistic and relatable. It’s very easy to visualize the story and scenes as you read which made it enjoyable. It can be cheesy at times but I think that adds to the theme as well as the main story. I am looking forward to getting a copy to finish!

The premise of this book is incredibly refreshing. Instead of rooting for two strangers to fall in love, you’re cheering for a married couple to find their way back to each other. The author masterfully weaves time travel, a role-playing game, and mystery into a heartfelt, thought-provoking narrative that is unique and deeply moving.

This book is immersive, theatrical, and emotionally grounded. The genre mashup of slice-of-life marriage drama, K-drama fantasy, and video game mechanics works pretty well for me since it's a little beyond my normal reading habits.
Hearts on Hanbok Sleeves made me think about how easily trust erodes in a marriage when two people are living in slightly different realities and how the small details (a bingsoo order, a wedding memory) are such important points in real life and the narrative of this book.
People who enjoy books that blend mundane life and the surreal, or who enjoy K-dramas that play with meta-narrative structure, will really enjoy this book. The classical music references, time skips, and character arcs throughout the book especially scratched that itch for me.
I am only halfway in and still felt a strong sense of world-building, a slow-burn of betrayal building nicely, and pacing that was finding its rhythm. I'm really looking forward to finishing the rest of the book once it's fully out!

I'm more of a sci-fi/fantasy reader, but this book was a surprisingly fun read. The mix of k-drama and video game elements was engaging, and some parts made me laugh out loud. Overall, a refreshing and wholesome book I'd recommended with a very creative/artistic ending.
