Hanul loves historical Korean dramas. But her real life of motherhood and seven years of marriage with Jiwan falls quietly short of the flutters, the intrigue, the sense of possibility. So when she wakes in 1588 Joseon, as the Governor’s unmarried daughter, she’s swept into a world of rustling silk hanboks, spring blossoms, and expressive suitors. It’s the break she imagined she needed—until she meets a man she cannot ignore.
Jiwan is the town’s newest eligible bachelor. He awoke in a Joseon strategy game and accepted his exhilarating mission as a steadfast commander against the mysterious red enemy. In a superordinary world that offers them a second chance at love, ambition—a fulfilling life—Hanul and Jiwan must confront the hidden truths of their history and decide...

As a huge fan of K-Drama’s I was so excited to read this book! I loved this book so much, it was such a beautiful story and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I loved the characters so much, the two leads had such strong personalities I instantly felt connected to them. Seeing their interactions and their growth throughout was amazing and I rooted for them both from the start. The other characters brought so much to the book too and I loved the whole group and the interactions they had with one another, I had so many favourite characters! They were all so likeable and had distinct personalities that stood out and made me fully invested in each of their stories.
The plot itself has so much to it (I won’t spoil what!) but this has so much more than just romance. The story is so beautiful and heartwarming and the message behind it is so meaningful. I loved the authors note at the end as well explaining real life history and culture as it just added another layer to the book. It had the perfect balance of humour, sweet moments and drama and combined it made for a super enjoyable book that was really hard to put down.
The authors writing style is beautiful and feels so immersive, I felt like I had been transported right back in time with them! Everything was captured so well from settings to characterisation to emotions felt and it made the book feel so engaging to read and had me smiling at several times throughout.
Overall this was an amazing book and I’d definitely recommend it! I’ll for sure be keeping up with any possible future release by this author!
Beyond excited for the publication of Hearts on Hanbok Sleeves on August 8th! I had the absolute pleasure of getting to read through a part of the copy as a beta reader, and this book was a refreshing take on time travel romance - emotionally raw, historically rich, and sprinkled with relatable humor throughout for people like me (married with kids). If you love historical romantasy, k-dramas, and webtoons, this is the book for you!
It’s also been so fun following the author on her journey in writing this book. Can’t wait!!
I had the privilege to get early access and read the first half of the book. I was a little hesitant because of the Korean drama/romance theme but I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading! I thought the dynamic of main characters were very realistic and relatable. It’s very easy to visualize the story and scenes as you read which made it enjoyable. It can be cheesy at times but I think that adds to the theme as well as the main story. I am looking forward to getting a copy to finish!
As a K-drama fan and wife and mom, I had the privilege of reading part of this book early, and I am absolutely itching to pick up the whole novel on August 8th!
