First, I want to thank the author, Mary Henderson, for this ARC (Advanced Reader Copy). The following are my own and honest opinions.
I have truly loved this entire series, but I think this might be my favorite! I laughed so much and felt giddy over Mike and Renata’s love story. This had been the best marriage of convenience romance I’ve read so far.
Renata was so relatable, especially in the way she thought about love. Mike was adorable. The grannies were hilarious. I loved the heartfelt faith references.
I have really enjoyed the friend group throughout the series and seeing them in this story. Especially Niko who is still my favorite character!
Mary Henderson’s epilogues are the best. Like the cherry on top! This one was no exception.

Love in Theory is a marriage-of-convenience romance with a twist that follows interior designer Renata Valenti and data scientist Mike Walker as they decide to get married because (a) she needs to stay in the US to open her business and (b) he’s in need of a wife. I am a sucker for a marriage-of-convenience and was interested to see how it would play out especially with the interweaving of their Christian faith.
What I liked
* Their faith and the way it was woven through the themes of the story. Mike struggles with and I appreciated how the story didn’t shy away from how it affected his walk with God, but also showed him pursuing help such as therapy and counseling
* The communication between Ren and Mike was fantastic! Though they decided to get married after only knowing each other a few days (if even that), I liked that they talked through their fears, worries, and anxieties. It’s refreshing to not have miscommunication driving the storyline along
* Mike fell first and hard and I like that he didn’t pressure Ren to reciprocate his feelings but rather gave her the time and space to grow into them
What didn’t quite work for me
* I wish this was set in a different time period! I think the storyline has so much potential for a regency arranged marriage plot but I struggled a bit with seeing it play out in a contemporary 21st century setting.
* I know it’s framed as Mike falling first and hard but it was a little difficult for me to understand where his attraction stemmed from, especially since he’d only known her for a few minutes via video call. Unfortunately, it impacted my enjoyment of the story quite a bit, but I can see how people who are fans of the instalove trope would enjoy it!
* Though the rushed marriage is framed to help with her visa stuff, we actually don’t see a lot of her setting up the business in the US anyway… it’s all packed into the epilogue. I would have appreciated exploring that storyline a bit more especially since they don’t get married until about 80% of the way through. The pacing for that was a little weird to me.
Ultimately, this was a sweet closed-door insta love marriage of convenience book. I especially loved how both of the character’s faiths were weaved into the story. This is my first book of the author’s but definitely not my last!

Mike Walker in love... adorable.
But Mike Walker as the "touch my wife and you won't be able to move that hand for a very long time" kind of husband! Whew. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
And that epilogue... 🥺🥺🥺 My whole heart. Love in Theory might just be my favorite book in the series.
Mike and Ren's story is far from the conventional marriage-of-convenience trope, and that's exactly what makes it stand out. With God at the center, this is a beautiful story about love, healing, trust, and discovering that God's plans are often far better than our own.
Mike Walker was an instantly lovable character in Love by Accident, and I really enjoyed getting his backstory and seeing a deeper side to the jovial, easygoing man we already knew. But it was Ren's story that captured my heart the most. As women, we don't always realize how the love stories around us can shape our own views of love, sometimes in ways that leave wounds behind. Ren is one of those people. Her outlook on love and marriage had been tainted... until she met the man who swept her off her feet before she even realized she was falling in love.
As always, Mary Henderson captures the Father's heart beautifully 😍. One of my favorite things about her stories is how realistic her characters are. It never starts as a perfect fairytale. Instead, we get characters who struggle with body image, trust issues, past mistakes, and the same challenges many of us face. Then we get to watch them make space for God, surrender those burdens to Him, and allow Him to transform the ordinary into something extraordinary, just as He does in real life.
It was also incredibly heartwarming to witness not one but two love stories unfold under God's hand. Each one served as a beautiful reminder that His timing is perfect and that it is never too early or too late for Him to move.

Mary Henderson has done it again 😍. This book was absolutely brilliant, tender, intentional, and overflowing with everything I love. There were so many standout elements: the friend group, the Italian, the Granny squad, the vulnerability, the healing… all of it weaving together into such a beautiful story. I’m genuinely sad this is the last book in the series 😭. I need more time with these characters. They’ve slowly made their way into my heart, and now they’re living rent‑free in my head and honestly, I don’t mind it one bit.
I also loved the spin on fake dating in this book. As someone who doesn’t usually enjoy the fake dating trope, this version worked for me in a way I didn’t expect. Instead of the typical “fall in love first, figure out the rest later,” this story takes a bold step of starting from the rest and trusting that love will grow. I kept asking myself whether this is something I could do or even want in real life (still thinking about it 😅), but the way it was written was beautiful.
One thing I deeply appreciate about Mary Henderson is how she consistently addresses real, heavy, human topics with such care. Her intentionality shines through every page. And the way she expands scripture in ways you’ve never considered before always blesses my heart and gives me a teaching moment. I walked away with new prayer points and fresh lessons on parenting, patience, love, and moving forward once I know God is involved, even when I don’t fully understand.
I honestly don’t think I can capture the entire experience of this book in one review, but I’m smiling as I write this. These stories bless me, and I’m going to need many more from her because her gift is something special.

I absolutely loved Love in Theory by Mary Henderson! Mike and Renata (Ren) were definitely my favorites, but honestly, I fell in love with this entire group of characters.
What stood out to me most was the friendships and relationships. The conversations felt natural, the friend group was so much fun, and I loved seeing how they supported one another through both the good and difficult moments. These are the kinds of characters that make you want to keep reading just because you enjoy spending time with them.
And Grammy and the “Granny Squad”? 😂❤️ Absolutely loved them! Mike’s spunky grandmother was such a fun addition to the story.
I especially appreciated that this was a no-spice romance. There are a few moments where you can read between the lines, but nothing is described explicitly. The romance still had chemistry and emotional depth without relying on spice.
I loved the slow-burn romance, the friendships, the humor, and the way faith was naturally woven throughout the story. And while this book can be enjoyed on its own, I recently discovered that there are two books before this one featuring the same friend group. Now I definitely want to go back and read them!
If you enjoy slow-burn romance, close-knit friend groups, lovable characters, faith woven into the story, and no-spice/closed-door romance, I highly recommend giving this one a try.

It follows the journey of interior designer Renata (Ren) Valenti and data scientist Michael (Mike) Walker as they decide to tie the knot. The primary reason behind their decision is Renata’s need to stay in the US to establish her business, while Mike is seeking a wife.
This story is about love, healing, trust, and that God’s plans are far better than one can plan up for themselves.
This story had me in all the feels. Mary’s characters are so life like. So real and relatable. I love how nothing is ever picture perfect. I laughed and I cried reading this book. There were many times I felt connected/relatable to Mike. I love how Mary wrote and handled Mike and Ren’s struggles.
I do feel that the marriage of convenience trope would have fit better in a different time period.
There were times I felt the pacing was slightly slower than I liked but overall I really enjoyed it. I loved the epilogue.

Love in Theory is my first time reading a Mary Henderson book, but it certainly won't be my last! I did not know what to expect when I first started reading it, but it exceeded my expectations, and I couldn't put it down! Mike is such a sweet, golden retriever vibes MMC, but the way he falls for and loves Renata is so swoon-worthy! I couldn't get enough of their witty banter and chemistry. And the scene in the rain...so passionate! This is a closed-door Christian romance book, but it is not lacking in steam and passion!
I really enjoyed the other characters' dynamics as well. The Granny Squad was giving total Golden Girls Vibes! I feel like I could've read a whole book about them and their shenanigans. The faith themes interwoven throughout the book are so heartwarming and beautiful. Mary does an excellent job of making her characters real and relatable, touching on the subject of mental health from a Christian perspective. I especially could relate to Renata and her struggles with letting people close.
I also adored the story of redemption in some of the other characters' lives. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series and get to know more of the friend group! Thank you for the opportunity to read this beautiful love story.

I picked this up casually, and suddenly I couldn’t stop reading. The introduction to the Granny Squad was epic, and I couldn’t stop laughing at their shenanigans. This group of hilarious grandmas stole every scene they were in, and the sense of community and found family made the story feel so warm and inviting.
I love Niko and Mike’s brotherhood. I’ve admired them ever since Love by Accident. Their friendship is so beautiful to see.
I also love the sisterhood between Renata and Vicky. It was so sweet to watch.
Mike and Ren’s story is far from the conventional marriage-of-convenience trope I’ve read before, and that’s exactly what makes it stand out. With God at the center, this is a beautiful story about love, healing, trust, and discovering that God’s plans are often far better than our own.
When Mikey mentioned Renata to his grandma by accident, I just knew the drama had started because whatttttttttt 😂😂😂.
And that hospital scene with Mike and Ren? So emotional… until Mikey dropped the bomb 😂😂😂.
What stood out most to me was the beautiful faith thread woven throughout the romance. It wasn’t just a love story; it was also a reminder of God’s faithfulness, timing, and guidance even when life doesn’t go according to plan.
Overall, this was such a sweet, heartwarming read, filled with laughter, family, friendship, faith, and romance.

I couldn’t help but laugh when Mike's grandma mistakenly used 'gaf' instead of 'gif' in the church group. The quote, “You’re the funny guy, not the sad guy. No one will understand or like you when you’re this way,” really resonated with me. It felt so relatable because, at times, I’ve believed that no one understands my sadness, since I’m usually the one smiling and laughing. I love Vicky; she is such a mood. I also like how you can see the lives of the other characters from the previous books in the series. I like how Leyla reminds Renee that God has brought you through so many things in life and that you can forget where you came from. Renata’s simple prayer really touched my heart during that heartbreaking moment of the book. Mary, you had my jaw dropping when Mike said “No one else exists when we’re near each other,” like I want this kind of godly relationship. I had the biggest smile on my face when Mike apologized to Renata for not saving himself until marriage, which was heartwarming because only a true man could do that. Omgsh, he knows the sidewalk rule another green flag. My heart broke for him towards the end of the book. This is my favorite book in the series, and it’s sad that the series has come to an end.

From the moment I started reading “from the author” right before chapter one, I had a feeling that I was going to enjoy this book. However, as I kept reading the book, I was questioning decisions that the author wrote between the relationship between the two main characters, Ren and Mike. Their relationship is beautifully seen from the readers’ point of view, and I praise Henderson on how she wrote that. The writing style is nice. Usually most authors would finished their book after certain events happening, but Henderson let the book keep going just a lil bit further, showing people the real life of relationships between imperfect characters. I wish I can explore Mike and Ren’s character just a bit more, and go more deep inside into their struggles.
There are parts in the book that got me hooked, and, not gonna lie, there is parts in the book that made me want to dnf this book completely. This book was well written overall. I am confident Henderson poured her heart and soul into this book, let alone this trilogy. The lessons that she brought to her readers from the book is something that I won’t forget, especially as a Christian woman.

This was such a great book! The Granny Squad made me laugh SO HARD!! HAHAHA!! I loved each of those quirky weirdos. And Grammy’s perspective of a life well lived and well loved was beautifully written. She was the kind of character that you wish you knew in real life, if you don’t already know someone like her.
I also loved Renata and Mike’s banter with each other. That really is a special kind of friendship when you understand their sense of humor. And the “he fell first, she fell harder” trope was well done in this story! And the RAIN SCENE!!!! *SWOON*
The aspect of depression dealt with in a way that was authentic and Christian based showed through in this story. I particularly liked how it was not “brushed off” or given a “just pray/do/be/try harder” impression. God’s love clearly showed throughout the book that was not superficial.
The fact that the characters also had such unique struggles, but were still relatable at the core, was also impressive to me.
Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and entire series! I love Mary Henderson’s books in general now. HAHA!!

Mary Henderson is a contemporary romance literary genius. Love in Theory had so many special elements to it. Mary’s books deal with real world problems and this one is no exception. The way she captures how depression and anxiety affect someone’s life was so powerful. I think so many will be able to relate to the characters’ struggles and feel encouraged in their own walk. She was also able to weave in faith themes that will touch your heart and not come off as cheesy.

I’ve read 3 books by Mary Henderson and each one earned 5 stars. Seriously.. her books at must reads for anyone who loves romance that includes all the fun and swoon moments without sacrificing the real and sometimes difficult aspects of life. Add in one of the best friend groups, cultural differences, and strong faith themes and you have my 3 favorite books of 2026.
Mike is the goofy fun loving guy in the friend group, but there is a dark secret underneath those smiles that he is determined to keep hidden. I’ve dealt with something similar and Henderson does an excellent job representing Mike’s “issue” and especially his determination to “do better” and the guilt and shame he feels.
Mike also needs to get married quickly, but he has no idea how that will happen as he isn’t seeing anyone at the time and the only woman he is interested in lives in another country.
Without warning, Renata’s career takes a sharp turn and not in a good way. It’s time to get away and spend some time determining where to go from here.
An impulsive comment starts these two on a journey that leads to more than either ever expected.
There is soo much more to this story, but it’s best discovered as you read. There will be laughter, frustration, anger, and even tears. But trust me.. it is worth it all!

Mary Henderson out did herself again!! The third installment of a series of interconnected stand-alones where each book just gets better and better!! I loved every second of this book and I'm so sad that the journey with these characters are over😭 Each book has been amazing, but this is my Favorite one!!

ARC Review - I absolutely adored this book! Love in Theory felt like a breath of fresh air. I’ve never read a Christian romance quite like this before.The storyline was so unique and definitely not your typical marriage-of-convenience story. I was hooked from the very first page!
And can we talk about the granny group?! They had me laughing out loud the entire time—so feisty and unforgettable!
Mike and Renata’s love story was incredibly sweet. They both saw their lives going in different directions, but God had a different plan. Their relationship felt genuine and beautifully developed.
I also really appreciated how the book handled anxiety and depression. The author wove in biblical truth in such a meaningful way while also encouraging seeking professional help, which I thought was so important and well done.
If you’re looking for a Christian romance that will encourage your heart and give you something refreshingly different, I highly recommend Love in Theory!

This was the third and final book in the Elements of Love series, all of which have been delightful! If you haven't read them yet, they can be read as standalones, but you'll get the most from the books if you read them in order.
After reading book two, I was dying for Mike's story. He was such a fun, supportive friend and I wanted to see him get his HEA! 👩❤️👨

What an excellent story! The witty banter between characters kept me laughing. All the characters are fun and are from previous books, which I love. A group of friends that grows with you. The way God is woven into the story is so well done and touching. It all came together so beautifully. The granny squad, I don't even know where to begin. So hilarious, you will love them. Along with a tender, oh-so-swoony romance, this story kept me entertained from beginning to end. Perfectly written and deserving of more than 5 stars!

This is a closed door, marriage for convenience, Christian romance. For Mike, it was love at first sight. Renata, well she wasn't sure she was capable of love at all. They both jump into marriage for different reasons.
I love how he was willing to take things slow, despite a quick wedding. He didn't pressure her and they just took their time. It was sweet and I was cheering them on the entire time.
I was laughing and in tears by chapter 11. I absolutely adore Grammy and all her tack-ticks.

I have really enjoyed this faith based inter-connected series.
It is very rare to read 6 books and love every couple!
Mike and Renata were so sweet and I loved their story.
There was so many special moments in this book and I really loved this mix of love at first sight and marriage of convenience. I wish there had been a few more dates or moments with just Mike and Ren to further develop their relationship. It felt like this was big moments and really emotional moments and it needed a little space to breathe but overall such a great end to these two interconnected series.

This is an interesting take on the “marriage of convenience” trope. I will not elaborate so as not to spoil anything, but I really liked how the author did the MoC. It reminded me a bit of Latisha Sexton’s “Bram Baxter Marries the Wrong Sister” in the way that it was a faith-based and believable contemporary marriage. The depression aspect is very well done and as someone who has dealt with depression my whole life I connected with the MC’s struggle to reconcile his faith with his struggles. I definitely recommend this story.

Have you ever read a book and could just feel the love? You can definitely feel the love in this book and the entire series! So swoony! Bonus points for references to Pride and Prejudice!
