Chase Alexander is juggling hockey stardom, academics, and the pressure of being team captain. He didn’t plan on seeing his unforgettable one-night stand again—let alone in all his classes.

They don’t have time for a relationship. Friends is safer. Easier. Off-limits.

But when Lexi’s world begins to crumble, Chase refuses to let her fall.

She came to Greenville to chase her dreams. She didn’t expect to find someone worth risking them for.

This book is the ultimate comfort read. It’s such a sweet friends-to-lovers slow burn with a great sports romance backdrop. The author’s writing is so fluid and easy to get lost in, and it has easily become a personal favorite of mine.

3.5 stars cos some parts in the middle felt so prolonged and I’m just not a big fan of books with friends to lovers trope. Huge thanks to the author for the ARC copy.

i read this for jennas book club and honestly i was really vibing with it at the start! although i think the book got edited as it says in the description that they don’t even get each other’s name but they did lol - that’s kinda sad because the whole ‘chase searching for her because she blew his mind’ is cute and i would’ve liked that lol

also i would’ve liked a bit more angst and a slower burn instead of ‘sexy time twice but now we’re friends who are totally in love’ if you get what i mean? it was a lot softer than i usually like but it was still great!

i really loved the positive representation of girlxboy friendships that are completely platonic and it made me want some boy friends (and a boyfriend) aha

probably contrasting myself before lol i’m glad that there wasn’t the cliche ‘we have to break up because you cheated on me even tho i never let you explain that it was a misunderstanding’ because if there was istg i’d have to put the book down that annoys me so muchhhhh

final note: i’m getting a labrador puppy and naming it greg. i’ve decided.

final final note: i did buy a mashmallow chapstick after this book inspired me and honestly it dont taste that good so chase my man idk what your on - it does smell peng tho sooooo

firstly before i get into the actual review i want to thank alexandra for the early copy and chance to read and review this book early!!

i’ve been in a bit of a life/reading slump the past couple of weeks, and this book was exactly what i needed to get me out of it. i read 60% in one day and couldn’t get enough of it. i am obsessed with both lexi and chase, and could read bout them for another 400 pages. watching lexi slowly open up to chase was really beautiful. you can see how much her family’s attitude towards her has effected parts of her life, but at the same time also motivates her to be the best version of herself for her and no one else. i absolutely adored her friendship with faye omg!! she’s literally that best friend who is basically classed as your sister the way she’s been there for her through everything. and chase!!! what a man, you genuinely couldn’t find a bigger green flag. he always went above and beyond for lexi in the way he was always protective over her. with what happened to lexi in the book, it was really nice to see the whole friend group come together to be there for her, but also being careful not to push or overwhelm her. i think that whole situation was also handled and written with such care by alexandra, but of course a reminder to always make sure you check the tw list at the start of the book!! back to the friend group, i’m absolutely obsessed with every single one of them and can’t wait for all of their books, but especially maddox. when i tell you i literally had a smile on my face anytime he popped up, it’s not even funny!! i need that man’s book like i need air, and knowing the tropes for his book has me unbelievably excited. all that to say, definitely add this book to your tbrs and read it immediately 🤭

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to a 4

First, thank you so much to the author for the ARC copy and the chance to read and review this book early. 🫶

A little foreword: I’d first read this when it was on Wattpad under the title Candy Lips. Loved it so so much back then so, naturally, I had to read the published version.

Golden Dream was the perfect summer read. It was more than just a sports romance but also had deep friendship, healing, and difficult topics.

The characters are so likeable and Chase and Lexi’s relationship is so cute, they are everything you’d want a relationship to be like. Chase’s patience with Lexi and Lexi’s complexly layered character might have been one of my favourite things.

There is such a focus on emotional connection within their relationship. That tends to be something I look for a lot in romance novels but is very hard to find.

I must say; however, that the writing style is a little bit simple and very dialogue heavy at times. It makes the story drag a bit in the beginning, but it definitely picks up towards the second half. I’m also not big on ONS but I think k it was fine in this one.

I think maybe a bit more of a sneak peek into the side characters would’ve been more appreciated. I know this is a series, but I still would’ve liked a better introduction to them.

Despite thinking it could’ve been slightly shorter, this is a very good easy, fun summer read and a good start to the series. Heavily recommend it to anyone looking for a cute romance with more difficult conversations and complex characters. Looking forward to reading more from Alexandra Marie! 💛

Candy Lips is honestly one of the best college/uni-based books I have read on wattpad. I have read Alexandra’s books at least a couple hundred thousand times at least and I am still waiting for the day I get bored of them (very unlikely for that to happen).
This book has such a cute yet heart wrenching plot (MAKE SURE TO CHECK TW) and the characters honestly make you fall in love with the book even more than you thought possible. Such an amazing book and series.

“That’s what life is all about, isn’t it? Being successful isn’t always what you think it is when you get there.”

This book completely caught me off guard.

I went into Golden Dream expecting a college sports romance, but I got so much more. This is a story about healing, vulnerability, learning to trust again, and how one person can completely change the trajectory of your life.

As a former student-athlete, I have to give Alexandra Marie so much credit because she absolutely nailed that part of the story. The pressure of balancing school, practices, competitions, expectations, and trying to have a life outside of your sport felt incredibly authentic. It never overshadowed the romance, but it was always there in a way that made these characters feel real.

Alexandra also wasn’t afraid to tackle difficult topics. Abuse, family trauma, anxiety, therapy, grief, and the weight of carrying things that were never yours to begin with are all woven into this story. It sounds heavy and at times it is but it never felt like too much. Every topic had a purpose, and together they created a story that felt incredibly heartfelt.

Lexi quickly became one of my favorite FMCs. She’s fierce, determined, organized, and has this clear vision for her future: becoming an Olympic volleyball player while staying at the top of her class. But there’s also so much she’s hiding. We don’t really get to know the real Lexi until the last third of the book, and watching those layers slowly peel back made me love her even more.

“I cry for the girl I was, and the girl I’m going to be. I cry about the unknown future I have ahead of me, but I also release some of that anger and sadness I’ve been carrying around like a backpack too heavy for my own shoulders.”

Then there’s Chase…

Can we all agree that he has officially set the standard?

Their relationship develops exactly how I love to see it: one-night stand → classmates → friends → dating. Nothing felt rushed. Every stage mattered, and because of that, their relationship felt earned.

More than anything, I loved Chase’s patience. He never tried to force Lexi to open up before she was ready. He simply stayed. He listened. He supported her. He loved her exactly where she was.

“I’m not your protector. But I will protect the people I care about, and I care about you.”

“I will always want to be where you are… because I love you.”

That is Chase. Through and through. And don’t even get me started on the banter.

“And you almost chose him instead?”

“He wasn’t even in the running.”

“A regular love triangle.”

“It truly wasn’t.”

“I almost didn’t get the girl.”

“The girl is leaving.”

I was smiling the entire time.

One of my favorite parts of this book, though, was the friend group. By the end, I genuinely felt like I belonged with them. Maddox, Reece, Luke… I already need their stories because I am not ready to leave this world yet.

The only reason this isn’t a full five stars is because I didn’t binge it. I found myself reading a few chapters at a time instead of staying up until 3 a.m. saying, “just one more chapter.” That’s more about my reading experience than the quality of the book because I truly loved spending time with these characters.

If you’re looking for a college sports romance with dual POVs, a strong and resilient FMC, a green-flag hockey captain who defines “acts of service,” incredible emotional depth, and a romance built on friendship, patience, and unconditional love, I can’t recommend Golden Dream enough.

Now… Alexandra, when exactly is the next book? Because I’m already ready to come back to this group.

Some books make you smile. Some books make you cry. And then there are the rare ones that feel like coming home, Golden Dream was that book for me.

From the very first page, this story wrapped itself around my heart and never let go. It felt like a warm hug, a safe place, and a reminder that even when life feels overwhelming, there are people willing to carry some of the weight with you.

Lexi and Chase completely stole my heart. Their relationship wasn’t built on grand gestures or dramatic declarations—it was built on patience, trust, understanding, and showing up for each other every single day. Watching them slowly let each other in, learn how to lean on one another, and navigate their struggles together felt so real and so incredibly beautiful.

Lexi was impossible not to love. Her determination, resilience, and growth throughout the story moved me deeply. She carried so much on her shoulders, and watching her learn that strength can also mean accepting help was one of my favourite parts of the book.

And Chase Alexander… where do I even begin?

The support. The patience. The unwavering devotion. The way he listened, understood, and loved without expecting anything in return. He wasn’t just a book boyfriend—he was a safe place. Every time he called Lexi “love,” I swear my heart melted a little more.

What made this story so special wasn’t just the romance. It was the way Alexandra Marie explored healing, burnout, friendship, family, and the importance of letting yourself breathe when life becomes too much. Every relationship felt genuine, every emotion felt earned, and every character felt like someone I never wanted to say goodbye to.

This book made me laugh, swoon, ache, heal, and love with these characters. By the final page, they didn’t feel fictional anymore—they felt like people I’d grown alongside.

Golden Dream isn’t just a romance. It’s a story about finding light in difficult moments, allowing yourself to be loved, and discovering that sometimes the strongest thing you can do is let someone stand beside you.

And honestly? My heart is still there with Lexi, Chase, and all the people who made Greenville feel like home 🏠

I am beyond thankful that I saw an arc opportunity for this beautiful book come across my threads feed.

Hockey romances are one of my favorite books to read. While I have been meaning more towards more adult aged characters for sports romances, this book intrigued me and I’m so glad I didn’t pass this up because it was a college romance.

This book felt like a throwback to my college sports days. Alexandria really made this friend group and all of the characters realistic and relatable. Most often in college sports romance all the guys are overly sexualized and all they do is talk about sex, drinking, their latest hook up and hockey. The guys were all green flags and talked respectfully about the females there were interested in or hooking up. There was not “bro culture” in this book which was so refreshing. The way this was written made feel like I was part of the group or wanted to be part of this friend group.

Another part of this book that I loved was the slow burn and friendship between Chase and Lexi was so good. The beginning of this story had me laughing out loud when she kept seeing him around after their ONS - it felt really realistic and written in a way that made me feel what Lexi was feeling.

This story has hockey elements but it’s not the main plot nor is her volleyball. Are they both on teams? Yes. Do they have scenes of both yes. However, this felt more than a sports romance.

This story hit heavy topics such as sexual assault and mental health. Alexandria took such care with this storyline. It was very realistic and Lexi wasn’t magically okay nor was she jumping into bed with Chase like two weeks later. She really took the time to show the impact that had on not only Lexi but the other characters in the friend group.

There were so many surprises in this that had me running to my book besties DMs and Alexandra’s DMs.

Out of context parts that had me 😂👀🫪:
Maddie
Pajamas
Secret Santa
Lexi’s family

I hope the younger readers is this book/college age demographic read this book and surround themselves with guys like Chase, Maddox, Luke, and Reece. These guys do exist and not settle for anything less.

I am so ready for the next books. I can’t pick a favorite guys at this point - it changed multiple times throughout the story.

Alexandra is now an auto read/buy author for me.

Thank you to NetGalley, Alexandra Marie, and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

2.5 stars.

Golden Dreams had all the ingredients of a romance I should have loved: college sports, a broody hockey captain, an ambitious volleyball player, and a story that wasn't afraid to tackle heavier themes. Unfortunately, while I enjoyed parts of it, I never found myself emotionally connecting with the characters.

My biggest issue was the writing style. The story often moved from one scene to the next without allowing important moments to breathe. Conversations were frequently cut short just as they became interesting, and there were several occasions where we were told a character was deep in thought, yet we never actually learned what they were thinking. Because of this, I constantly felt kept at arm's length from both Lexi and Chase.

The novel also relies heavily on dialogue with very little description of the world around the characters. While this kept the pages turning, it also made the settings and many of the emotional moments feel underdeveloped. I wanted to become immersed in the story, but instead I often felt like I was simply watching events unfold from a distance.

That said, Chase was easily my favorite part of the book. He developed into a genuinely kind, patient, and supportive love interest, and I appreciated how respectful and understanding he was throughout the story. There were several sweet moments between the main characters that made the ending more enjoyable and ultimately lifted my rating slightly.

Overall, this simply wasn't the book for me. The story had plenty of potential, but I wanted more emotional depth, stronger character development, and a writing style that spent more time exploring the characters' inner worlds rather than moving quickly from one scene to the next. I can absolutely see why this book will work for readers who enjoy fast-paced college romances, but I personally never felt fully invested in the journey.

I genuinely never wanted this book to end. ALL THE STARS⭐️🤩💫

thank you so much to Alexandra Marie for the ARC of golden dream💛 I am here to formally claim my titles as the #1 fan of Alexandra Marie and the #1 fan of Golden Dream before this book goes viral👑

as someone who rereads comfort books often, this one was immediately added to the list. reading golden dream felt like being wrapped up in a nice, warm hug✨ started strong, ended stronger!!

this was the most wholesome book I’ve ever read. there are tears in my eyes as I write this review. the best word I can use to describe this book is beautiful😭❤️ the found family in friendship?? the journey of healing and finding peace???? the love story of two people made for each each?????????? I am sick over how emotional this book had me

Chase is the most emotionally mature MMC I’ve ever read about. hot accent, plays hockey, loves his family, makes Lexi feel safe, loved, and cherished. his character went above & beyond!

Lexi, my sweet angel baby!! I am so proud of her for healing, taking chances, and opening up. I wish I could hug her!! she is such a strong, intelligent, and caring woman. I loved watching her confidence grow as she spent more time with Chase (even as friends). my girl deserves the world!! and she plays volleyball… I am Lexi and Lexi is me

this one-night stand turned friends to lovers was spicy, emotional, funny, wholesome, and everything I want from a book. I will be preaching this book for the rest of my existence💞 I could name 50+ minor details about this book that made me fall in love with it… Christmas pjs, hockey camp, whipped cream… but you just had to be there. ACTUALLY, GO READ IT AND TEXT ME ASAP

I don’t even know which side characters I love most??? Faye, Reese, Maddox, Luke, Sky, Rory… all of the above
*Maddie does own a piece of my heart already though🥹

the epilogue— it’s like a reward🤭🤭🤭

First of all, thank you so much for the opportunity to be selected for this ARC. I'm truly grateful for the chance to read and review it.

I really wanted to love it, and there were definitely elements I appreciated, especially Chase's character. He came across as such a sweet, patient and genuinely caring man, and I found myself wanting so much more from his POV. His perspective could have added more emotional depth and balance to the story, especially because he felt like a character who had a lot more to offer.

Unfortunately, the story felt a bit too prolonged for me, and I struggled to stay fully connected throughout. My biggest difficulty was connecting with the FMC. At times, the emotional dynamic felt one-sided, and her constant inconsistency made it hard for me to root for the relationship. I understood that she had internal struggles and her trauma, but as a reader, I found her choices frustrating rather than compelling.

There were moments where her behavior felt emotionally immature, which made the romance read more like a high school dynamic rather than a relationship between adults. Because of that, I had a hard time believing that Chase truly received the love, care, and consideration he deserved. He was such a strong character, and I personally felt he deserved better.

I think I would have enjoyed the story more if there had been more emotional balance between the characters, more visible growth from the FMC, and more chapters from Chase’s POV. His side of the story felt like it could have added a lot to the overall emotional impact.

Overall, while this one didn’t completely work for me, I’m still thankful for the opportunity to read it early. I can see how other readers may connect with the story more than I did, especially those who enjoy angsty, emotionally complicated romances.

5 🌟 - ARC

Thank you Alexandra Marie for the opportunity to read and review your absolute work of art in advance!

"I'm not threatened by her height if that's what you're implying. Tall-girl power." 😂✊🏼

This is one of those 5 star reads I will take no criticism on. You know when a book just makes you feel things you can't explain? Yeah, this was one of those books for me and I have a feeling I will be thinking about it for a while.

I reached out to A.M. directly as I found a status on Threads about her book. I took a chance because you don't see many books written about volleyball players, and she sent me the ARC immediately which tells you the kind of author she is; someone who cares.

I resonated with this book hard! Being a former volleyball student-athlete who had to navigate and learn to balance, school, volleyball and a social life in a time in your life that youre still trying to figure out who exactly you are or want to be, comes with alot of daunting trials and errors. I think A.M. expressed this beautifully in her characters and the flow of the plot. It felt so natural, realistic; like it was written for me.

The group of friends-made-family, made me think of my friends from college and certain snippets when there were scenes of them doing the most mundane things. I felt a great sense of nostalgia.

The volleyball knowledge is there, the mental aspect is accurate and Maddox will definitely remain my favourite character.

The only critique I think I could provide is I would have liked to see a little more of the volleyball side, but thats more of a personal individual preference rather than for an entire audience . However I am very invested in Lexi & Sky's journey so I am dying to know if they make it all the way!! Can't wait for this completed series 💛

Golden Dream is a super addictive college sports romance that’s easy to get hooked on from the start.

Lexi Thompson is fully focused on earning her place on Greenville University’s elite volleyball team, and she does not have time for distractions. One impulsive night changes everything when she hooks up with a stranger and ghosts him by morning, thinking it is a closed chapter. Months later, that same guy shows up again… as her classmate. And not just any classmate, but Chase Alexander, the hockey team captain and campus golden boy.

From there, it is all tension, awkward run-ins, and that slow realization that “just friends” is probably not going to work here.
What I liked most is the chemistry between them. It feels natural and very Wattpad in the best way, where the emotional pull builds quickly and keeps you invested. Both characters are dealing with pressure in their own sports and personal lives, so their connection ends up feeling like something grounding for both of them rather than just romance for romance’s sake.

The story leans into familiar college romance tropes, but it works because the pacing is fast and the dynamic between Lexi and Chase carries it. There is also a nice balance between soft emotional moments and the more dramatic, angsty ones, especially when Lexi’s personal life starts to unravel and Chase steps in more seriously.

If you like sports romances with forced proximity, friends-to-lovers tension, and that “we should not do this but we absolutely will” energy, this hits the mark.

First of all, I want to thank Alexandra Marie and NetGalley for providing this ARC. I wasn't familiar with her work on Wattpad, but the book's premise immediately caught my interest after reading the description.
Regarding the book itself, I found the pacing slow—both in the romance and the overall story—so you'll need some patience. However, I believe it's worth the wait because this pacing allows for deep development not only of the main characters, Lexi and Chase, but also of their entire group of friends. This aspect truly kept me engaged.
I absolutely loved the friendship between Faye and Lexi and how they blend into Chase's group, fostering genuine camaraderie all around. Although Lexi and Chase's relationship begins with a one-night stand, it evolves into a meaningful friendship filled with chemistry, which I really appreciated. The romance feels natural and well-developed, and I believe in their connection.
In terms of character development, Lexi shows great growth, though I felt that Chase’s character could have been more fleshed out despite his chapters. I love his relationship with Lexi, but I would have enjoyed seeing more of his internal struggles with his responsibilities as captain, team member, and academic pressures.
Overall, it’s a fantastic read. I do wish the first half of the book had been a bit more condensed to allow for greater focus on the second half. While the book isn't perfect, it's a strong debut, and I'm definitely excited for the next one.

Golden Dream was an emotional college sports romance with strong friendships, plenty of yearning, and some heavier themes that were handled thoughtfully.

I really enjoyed the friendship dynamics throughout the story. Lexi and Chase both had supportive people around them, and those relationships added a lot of warmth and depth beyond the romance.

The connection between Lexi and Chase was easy to root for, especially as their friendship began turning into something neither of them could ignore. The yearning was one of my favorite parts, although their determination to keep their feelings buried was also frustrating at times. There were definitely moments when I wanted them to stop overthinking everything and simply talk to each other.

The story also explores a very difficult and sensitive experience in Lexi’s life. I thought the author portrayed the emotional impact and aftermath with care. Lexi’s feelings were taken seriously, and her healing did not feel rushed or included simply for shock value.

I also appreciated the way Chase supported her without taking away her choices or making her experience about him. Overall, this was a heartfelt and emotional romance about friendship, healing, trust, and finding someone who supports your dreams rather than standing in the way of them.

I would recommend checking the content warnings before reading.

Alexandra Marie, what did you put in this book?!

I loved everything about Golden Dream from the delicious spice to the beautifully paced slow burn that had me hanging on every interaction between Chase and Lexi. Their relationship felt so authentic, and watching them navigate the trauma from the Halloween party together absolutely wrecked me in the best way.

Can we talk about Chase for a second? Because THAT MAN. The support, the patience, the unwavering devotion… he radiates golden retriever energy and I was obsessed. Book boyfriends come and go, but Chase is the kind that stays with you.

One thing I absolutely love is when an author is so intentional with their characters that I can perfectly cast them in my head while reading. For me, Chase was 100% Cameron Porras. Lexi was Odessa A’zion from the moment she appeared on page. And then there’s Maddox…

Listen. Sorry to my husband. Sorry to Chase. Sorry to literally everyone.

But in my head, Maddox was Josh Heuston and I am not accepting feedback at this time. 🫠😂

This story made me laugh, swoon, hurt, heal, and fall completely in love with these characters. If Golden Dream isn’t already on your radar for 2026, fix that immediately.

This book completely stole my heart. What starts as a one-night stand quickly turns into a heartfelt college sports romance filled with chemistry, friendship, and emotional depth.

Lexi is determined, hardworking, and fiercely protective of the future she’s built for herself. Chase is the ultimate golden boy on the surface, but underneath the hockey stardom is a genuinely caring hero who shows up when it matters most. Their connection felt natural from the very beginning, evolving from awkward reunions and undeniable attraction into something so much deeper.

I loved the balance of sports, romance, and personal growth. The friendship between Lexi and Chase gave their relationship a strong foundation, making every sweet moment, lingering glance, and emotional conversation hit even harder. Chase’s unwavering support when Lexi’s life begins to unravel made him impossible not to love.

This book delivered all the feelings:
tension, laughter, heartache, and a romance that left me smiling long after the final page. If you love college sports romances, golden retriever heroes, strong heroines chasing their dreams, and relationships built on trust and support, then this book deserves a spot at the top of your TBR.

ARC Review

This book completely stole my heart. I started reading expecting a fun college sports romance, but I got so much more. Lexi and Chase have an incredible chemistry from the very first chapter, and I loved how their relationship developed from an awkward one-night stand into a genuine friendship before becoming something deeper. It made every emotional moment feel earned.
What I really loved was how supportive Chase was when Lexi's life started falling apart. He's the kind of book boyfriend who shows up when it matters the most, and their relationship is built on trust, respect, and being there for each other. Lexi is also such a strong, determined heroine, and I couldn't help rooting for her every step of the way.
The sports setting added so much energy to the story without overshadowing the romance, and the pacing kept me hooked from beginning to end. I laughed, I swooned, and I got emotional more than once.
If you love college romances with athletes, friends-to-lovers vibes, fantastic chemistry, and a romance that balances sweetness with emotional depth, this one is an absolute must-read. I couldn't put it down after I started.

I received this book as an ARC read from NetGalley. I liked this book of campus athletes with slow burn. From one night stands, friends to lovers. I loved how both the FMC and her best friend became best friends with the hockey players. From the moment they met at the beach and then when the fall semester started and they ended up in the same class. I liked how the MMC was head over heels for the FMC but at the same time gave her the patience and space she needed. The break through which was traumatic was when the FMC was Sa'd during a party at the hockey house and from that moment the FMC and MMC weren't apart again, She couldn't go to sleep without feeling that the MMC was by her side keeping her safe. The MMC tended to her and helped her through, told her to go to therapy never expecting anything from the FMC. The hockey players that were teammates of the MMC were there by the FMC side and made them feel like they were their little sisters and since the FMC couldn't go back to the hockey house they would gather in the girls tiny apartment. Until the very end the FMC faced her fears and went back to the hockey house with now her MMC boyfriend. I truly enjoyed this book.

The way I absolutely devoured this book.

Everything about the way this story unfolded was so beautifully done. From the one-night stand, to Lexi doing everything she could to avoid Chase, to the two of them slowly becoming friends… it was perfection.

Chase had me swooning from their very first interaction. He is the definition of a green flag MMC, and I was obsessed from start to finish.

One of my favorite parts of this book was watching Lexi and Chase’s friendship grow. Their relationship felt so genuine, and I loved that the friendships throughout the entire friend group were just as strong. Every side character felt important, and by the end I felt like I knew all of them. The found family vibes were absolutely top-tier.

This book also tackles some really heavy topics, and I thought they were handled with so much care and emotion. Definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.

This has easily become one of my favorite college sports romances, and I already need the next book in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially the way it started. The chemistry between the characters was amazing, and the first steamy scene was easily a 10/10. I absolutely loved their relationship and the connection they built throughout the story.

That being said, I found myself craving more spicy scenes. While there were some great moments, there was a lot of buildup that had me expecting certain things to happen, only for them not to. I definitely would have loved a little more payoff in those moments.

However, I understand why the author chose to focus on the story development, as it helped make the plot twist even more impactful. That twist was absolutely heart-wrenching and had me fully invested in the characters’ journey.

I loved the ending and the way everything came together. The support, patience, and love between the characters made their relationship feel genuine and rewarding. Despite wishing for a bit more spice throughout the book, it was still a wonderful read that kept me engaged from beginning to end.

I'm a sucker for a good college sports romance, and Golden Dream had so many of the tropes I love, including:

* Friends to lovers
* He falls first
* Found family/close friend group

The chemistry, tension, and emotional moments kept me turning the pages! (Be sure to check the trigger warnings before reading.) I really enjoyed watching Lexi and Chase's relationship develop, and I found myself rooting for them the whole time. That slow burn was burninggg. 🤭

I also loved how the sports element added to the story without taking away from the romance. It was so nice to see representation where the FMC is also in a competitive sport! I'm really hoping we get to see more of Lexi's season in the next book.

The supporting cast was such a fun addition and made the world feel even more complete. I already can't wait for Maddox to get his own book! 🥺

If you love college sports romances, definitely add Golden Dream to your TBR!

This book felt like two separate stories for me. I really struggled in the first half, and then something happens (no spoilers), and the book takes a new turn, and I loved the second half.

Lexi is complex (love) and her love story with Chase is not straight forward (also love) but if you go into this story thinking it is another The Deal - you are wrong. Not a typical hockey romance at all.

One of the reasons I struggled with Lexi in the first half is I felt like there wasn't enough character development. I couldn't understand why she was being cold to Chase and it didn't feel enjoyable to watch her behave this way. I think the idea was for us to be intrigued about what was in her background and that would keep us reading...but I personally found it frustrating.

The second half of the book felt very different to me because now we get to see what makes Lexi tick and how her and Chase can bond and grow their relationship. It was really nice to see that kind of support and love grow in a very real situation.

Thank you Alexandra for the advanced copy!

I'm having a hard time writing a review because I loved it for the most part but it was also kinda long?

I was not a fan of the extra trauma halfway through the story. I didn't feel like they needed it for their characterbuilding or for the plot so I was fully anticipating them coming together, confessing their love passionately but when *that* happened I was low-key (not so lowkey) disappointed. Maybe I just expected more smut because of the intro/trigger warning? Not sure but now we were at.. I'm gonna say 68% and nothing was happening so I got a bit frustrated for them.

Apart from that I was super invested. I was curious about ALL their lives and honestly there wasn't a single character I didn't like. I'm hoping to read more about Reece and Faye and OFC Maddox. Maddie had my heart from the first time he was introduced because the teasing and banter and then adding him being such a carebear? Sign me uppppp.

I absolutely loved this story. I’m a huge sucker for sports romances, and I especially love when the main characters come from different sports worlds. Lexi was such a relatable protagonist, and her journey with Chase had me completely invested from beginning to end.

Chase quickly earned a place among my all-time favorite book boyfriends. The patience, love, and care he shows throughout the story made him impossible not to fall for. Their relationship felt genuine, heartfelt, and incredibly rewarding to watch unfold.

I devoured this book in a single night because I simply couldn’t put it down. The emotional moments hit hard, the chemistry was undeniable, and I found myself rooting for Lexi and Chase every step of the way. This was the perfect mix of romance, personal growth, and sports, and it left me with that bittersweet feeling of not wanting the story to end. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I'm not always the biggest fan of one-night stands, especially when they lead to pages of physical attraction before any real emotional connection develops. That's why I really liked how, despite the one-night stand, Lexi and Chase continued getting to know each other and building a genuine friendship. The attraction was obvious from the start, but it never overshadowed the emotional foundation of their relationship. The pacing was great, and it made the progression from attraction to romance feel much more believable.

Lexi was hesitant to let Chase in and avoided both him and any discussion of what happened between them because of her fears and insecurities. While that was occasionally frustrating, it was also understandable and felt true to her character. Chase was incredibly patient, supportive, and understanding throughout the book.

My biggest issue was that everything felt a little too perfect. I wish we had seen more conflict between them, whether through disagreements, misunderstandings, or challenges that tested their relationship. I also would have liked them to be more flawed as characters. Giving them more imperfections or showing sides of themselves that weren't immediately likable would have made them feel more human and added more depth to their relationship and character growth.

-college romance
-women beach volleyball star
-hockey player
-dysfunctional family
-found family
-SA talked about

She’s leaving behind a family who could care less about her and running towards her future in beach volleyball and finding a place in the world of sports management. He’s here for school from England, playing a sport he’s good at, not because he wants to. Both come from different backgrounds, different lives, different relationship with family. But find a sense of peace and belonging with each other.

There’s some banter, humor, good friend group and some spice.

I wish that there was more of an epilogue with a peak into her volleyball career, since it was hinted at and even part of 1-2 chapters near the end about being called up. But never talked about. Some banter was repeated multiple times throughout.

It’s a good read overall.
