Molly McAlister is trying to rebuild a life she almost didn’t get to keep—surviving cancer, then losing the brother who pulled her through it. Jack, hardened by guilt and terrified of losing what remains, throws himself into hockey with a ferocity that pushes Molly further away. Enter Noah Tucker, the transfer from their rival school with a troubled past, steps onto Coldwater’s ice to take Danny McAlister’s old position—who steps straight into the tension the family struggles to contain.
When Molly and Noah begin finding comfort in the small pieces of grief they let each other share, something fragile starts to grow between them. But to Jack, it feels like betrayal—of their brother’s memory, of the team, and of the sister he’s terrified of losing again. As loyalties strain, tempers rise, and old wounds reopen, the ice becomes a battleground for more than just the game.
Told through three intertwined perspectives, this is a story of love found in the aftermath, the ache of forgiveness, and the weight of the secrets they refuse to face. Because grief may have brought them to their knees… but what comes next might tear them apart for good.
Its not really my genre because I'm way past the college scene at my age. At first it was hard for me to relate to the characters but at about 40% into the book, I was for sure invested. It has depth and meaning while dealing with serious life stressors and grief! I would have liked to have a prologue to know more about the characters and accident prior to starting the book because once I knew a little bit more about the situation and characters, it made the book much more enjoyable. I thought at first it was just college life but it is so much more! The one grammatical mistake that stuck out to me was their last name (McAlester) was spelled differently throughout the book. So the editors of her next one can maybe correct that going forward and watch out for that. I am looking forward to reading her next one to find out what happens next!! Totally recommend!
