DOWN is not a travel guide, a van-life fantasy, or a story about escaping it all. It’s a raw, voice-driven journal about uncertainty, movement, loneliness, freedom, and the strange emotional weight of living in constant transit.
On New Year’s Eve 2022, Scott and Marie left California in a 1993 Ford Econoline van and began driving south with no fixed plan beyond making it down. What followed was a year-long journey through Mexico, Central America, and South America to Patagonia, documented in real time through daily journal entries.
Part road story, part memoir, DOWN captures the reality that often exists beneath mechanical breakdowns, isolation, anxiety, fleeting relationships, exhaustion, beauty, guilt, awe, and the uncomfortable realization that changing your surroundings does not automatically change you.
Written with honesty, humor, and an unfiltered literary voice, DOWN is less about the destinations themselves and more about what happens to a person when life is stripped down to motion, uncertainty, and time.
For readers drawn to reflective travel writing, literary memoir, and deeply human stories about movement and meaning.
