The golden boy has secrets. I'm about to discover his biggest one.

Dante Spence. Quarterback. National champion. Star of the Alabama Lions. The smile on every billboard — charming, untouchable, worshipped.

I'm the dean's daughter. I can spot a performance from across a banquet hall.

The academic office assigned me as his tutor for one semester. It’s simple. He flirts. I ignore him. He passes. I walk away.

But I start noticing things.

The pill bottle in his bag with someone else's name on it. The phone call I wasn’t supposed to hear. The way his perfect smile disappears when he thinks no one’s watching.

Dante isn't the man on the billboard. He's ruthless. Reckless. Hiding something dangerous enough to destroy his career.

I should stay far away from him. I could ruin everything he’s built.
So why does he look at me like I’m his to own?

He’s not safe.
And the worst part . . .
I don’t want him to be.

This angsty, morally grey, sports romance is perfect for fans of Meagan Brandy, Chloe Walsh, Parker S. Huntington, Rosa Lucas, L.J Shen, Rebecca Jenshak, Nikki Lawson, Becka Mack.

Right, pull up a chair and let me tell you about my latest read, because this one has been living in my head rent-free since I turned the final page. Forever Reckless by Eve L. Mitchell came my way through Zooloos Book Tours, and I'll be the first to admit it's a little different from my usual picks. But honestly? Sometimes different is exactly what you need.

You know the type of book I mean, don't you? That delicious new adult sports college romance where the golden boy on campus turns out to be far more complicated than his billboard smile suggests. Eve L. Mitchell has taken everything we love about the genre, the tension, the forbidden pull, the slow unravelling of carefully built walls and wrapped it around a story with real bite to it.

Our hero, Dante Spence, is the kind of man who looks like he has it all. Quarterback. National champion. Star of the Alabama Lions. The sort of charming, untouchable presence that fills every billboard and every room he walks into. But Savannah, the dean's daughter and his reluctant tutor for the semester is far too sharp to be taken in by a performance. And a performance, she soon realises, is precisely what Dante has been giving everyone around him.

What I loved most about this book is the slow, satisfying peel of Dante's carefully constructed armour. The pill bottle with the wrong name on it. The phone call Savannah wasn't meant to hear. The way that golden smile simply vanishes when he thinks no one is looking. Eve Mitchell builds the suspense quietly and cleverly, threading it through the romance so that you're never quite sure whether to root for these two or shake them both by the shoulders. Dante is morally grey in the most compelling way ruthless and reckless, yes, but also deeply human beneath all of it.

And Savannah is no pushover. She knows the rules. She knows what's at stake for her own reputation and her father's position. She knows she should walk away. The fact that she can't that she doesn't want to is what makes this story so thoroughly readable. Their enemies-to-lovers slow burn had me completely in its grip.

If you're a fan of Daniela Romero, Ana Huang, or Peyton Corrine , this one will absolutely hit the spot. It's angsty and atmospheric, romantic and dangerous in equal measure. I raced through it in a sitting and a half, which is basically the highest praise I can give anything.

As the Dean’s daughter, Savannah has always been the perfect student, maintaining perfect grades in the major her father chose, and accompanying him to all the school functions. When she’s asked to tutor one of the football players, her father asks her to keep a close eye on him, and report back on anything unusual. While initially reluctant to work with him, she begins to notice things about him that don’t add up, and knows he’s hiding something. But while she knows she should stay away, she can’t take her eyes off him.

Like all student athletes, Dante is on a full scholarship, doing everything he can to secure a spot in the NFL and give his family a better life. But something isn’t adding up on the team, or the athletic facilities, and he quickly learns that asking too many questions isn’t a good idea. While he doesn’t know whether or not he can trust Savannah, something about her becomes more of a distraction than he can afford, but he still can’t resist. But secrets have a way of coming out, and when they do, nothing will be the same.

I received an early copy of this book from NetGalley and I absolutely loved it! While I had gotten a glimpse of Dante in the Ruthless Devils series, I appreciated the chance to learn more about his story, and it was absolute perfection. Savvy and Dante may seem like a perfect case of opposites attract, but in reality, they are very similar. They’ve both been forced to keep their heads down and do what’s expected of them, but both have too much heart to allow injustice to continue, and are willing to give anything up to keep those they love safe. I love how after their initially horrible reactions to the truth, once they decided to trust each other, that trust was unconditional, as was their love. The more they uncovered together, the stronger they were, and it’s clear they will last, regardless of what comes next. I have to add that I love how while the author writes individual books for each couple, there’s always an overarching storyline that carries throughout the series, and I can’t wait to see how things will play out with this one.

I always rate based on feels and vibes and this one shouted 3.75 at me. The reason? The plot was interesting, yet I wasn't emotionally connected to a single thing but maybe I'm just a spoiled brat when it comes to books.

First of, I loved the banter. Dante and Sav's connection was a constant push and pull with some very witty remarks on his part, LOVE that! While Dante is very fond of himself and not at all insecure, Sav is a little bit... rude actually. That might be because of her reputation at school but her rudeness was sometimes uncalled for and annoyed me at times. That does not change the fact that she can certainly hold her own and we love a woman who knows what she stands for.

There was definitely tension, although Dante's lust showed too early in the story for my personal liking. And that tension disappeared a bit in the second half of the book which slightly bummed me out.

Although I didn't connect emotionally with the characters, I think I liked Dante's character best. He was your typical jock to the outer world, but a total sweet pea on the inside. Somewhere in the last few chapters where he was totally honest about everything I changed my opinion of Dante. Where I first thought he wasn't sincere, that whole conversation made me see things differently. Totally loved the fact too that it was mentioned that he made her feel uncontrolled cause that was the whole point 😭

Honorary mention to Noah cause we like him and we want his book!

Thank you to Netgalley and the author for giving me the opportunity to read this arc. 🤍

❝Did you watch the game... or just me?❞

Forever Reckless - Eve L. Mitchell
★★★★☆

Utter definition of slow burn romance. And their dynamic??? I'm here for it. Love the banters, the pushes and pulls, the way that their relationship marinating slowly to the point us readers praying that it's time. Even after 50% in you still see them doubting their feeling. It could be a turn off, but personally i like it. I get to connect with the characters and their standing and thought process more. So it felt realistic I can truly see them as a person.

Love the mystery aka the scandal buried under the prestigious Wrighton University which involving so many higher ups and unexpected important parties. It kept me engaged aside from the romance. Well i thought it would be done in this book, but then i guess we'll still be wondering about it in the next book. Long story short, this is an ACTUAL book series not an interconnected standalones. No complain, just find it surprising.

I'm new to the author and this book made me wanting to read more from her. Can't wait to read Dustin's story and see how the scandal's going!

Thank you to Choc Lit and Eve L Mitchell for the chance of reading this ARC.

Dean's daughter meets the "golden boy" quarterback.

I feel like the constant reminder of her being the dean's daughter was a little overkill but I did like the chemistry between the FMC and MMC. It was kind of a good girl meets a bad boy but turns out the bad boy really isn't bad at all.

I do think this was really enjoyable, the story flows well, it's really great writing and definitely makes me want to read more from this author.

There was a LOT of miscommunication between the characters in the book which causes a lot of twists in the story, I really enjoyed the investigation side of the story and the impact the MMC has on the FMCs life.

Really great book, would definitely recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

2.5. I had mixed feelings about this one. I actually thought the non-romance plot was pretty unique and interesting, and there were definitely parts of the story I enjoyed.

That said, the writing itself really held me back from fully connecting with the story. The writing often felt robotic: repetitive, mechanical, and lacking emotional depth, which made the whole story feel underdeveloped at times. The use of this artificially feeling writing always drags me out of a story.

Overall, I enjoyed aspects of the story, but the writing ultimately lowered the experience for me significantly.
