This book felt like drinking lemonade on a porch swing while your heart gets absolutely body checked by feelings 😭☀️🏒 XOXO, Summer completely swept me away and now I’m sitting here staring into space thinking about Daniel Sutton like he personally ruined my life.

Single dad hockey player??? Small town summer romance??? Forced proximity in a cozy cottage situation??? SL Scott mixed all my favorite tropes together like some dangerous emotional cocktail and I devoured it in one sitting.

Daniel was EVERYTHING. Giant grumpy hockey man with a soft spot for his son and hidden golden retriever energy underneath all the fame and pressure? Immediate obsession. The way he was with his little boy melted me into a puddle every single time. And his chemistry with Summer??? ELECTRIC. Like genuinely toe-curling, butterflies-in-your-ribs kind of chemistry. Every glance, every touch, every quiet moment together had me squealing into my pillow.

And Summer was such an easy heroine to root for. She cares so deeply about her town and that little cottage, and you could feel how much heart she poured into everything she did. I loved that she wasn’t dazzled by Daniel’s fame forever either. She saw the real man underneath all the headlines and hockey chaos.

The broken pipes forcing them together deserves an award honestly because the domestic tension in this book??? Absolutely criminal. Sharing space, late night talks, stolen moments, accidental touches that suddenly become VERY intentional… I was spiraling in the best way.

But what really got me was the emotion threaded through the whole story. Beneath all the swoony summer vibes, there’s this ache hanging over them because you KNOW time is ticking. You KNOW real life is waiting outside their little bubble. And that letter??? THE LETTER. I actually had to put my kindle down and walk around for a minute because my chest could not cope.

SL Scott nailed that perfect balance of sweet, sexy, emotional, and hopeful. This wasn’t just a fluffy summer romance. It had depth and tenderness and characters who felt wonderfully human.

Now excuse me while I go mourn the fact Daniel Sutton doesn’t exist in real life.

I just finished XOXO, Summer and I loved it, the story gave me exactly the kind of light, heartfelt escape I was craving from a summer romance. 💕

The story follows Summer, a small town woman fighting to protect her family’s rental cottage and her community from big city developers. And when a hockey player/single dad becomes her unexpected tenant, everything shifts. 😉

Daniel is the kind of hero who ticks all the right boxes.. Tall, athletic, charming in that quiet confident way, and completely devoted to his young son. The single dad scenes are genuinely warm and never overdone. (They are probably some of my favourite moments in the book)

You feel the pull between him and Summer right away, especially once the cottage pipes burst and she offers him a place in her own home….. What starts as a practical arrangement turns into something much deeper, with Daniel offering to buy the cottage for her in exchange for help cleaning up his public image.

The romance builds nicely with plenty of tension, sweet moments, and that chemistry the blurb promises. I particularly enjoyed the age gap dynamic and how Daniel falls first, showing his vulnerability beneath the professional/athlete exterior.

The small town setting felt like I wanted to live be there, it’s cute and charming, and with the threat of development I felt it added just enough drama to keep things moving.

The conflict around Daniel’s career and the choices he has to make felt a little rushed to me, and I wanted a bit more emotional depth in how they navigated the “he’s leaving soon” reality. (But that’s my own personal opinion)

Still, the letters and the XOXO theme tie everything together in a pretty satisfying way.

Overall, this is a cozy, feel good sports romance with heart. If you enjoy single
parent stories, small town charm, and a hero who knows what he wants, it’s worth picking up for an afternoon read.

This was Daniel and Summers story and man was it a ride.

Summer is the oldest daughter of 4 girls and they lost their parents when they were young. They were raised by their maternal grandmother and basically Summer stepped into an adult role and had to grow up faster than any kid should have to. But she is a kind soul, works hard and keeps her focus on her goals… until Mr rules were meant to be broken shows up.

Daniel Sutton and his adorable little guy Roman come to stay in a cottage for a summer get away together. Little does he know he will quickly fall for the adorable, bright as sunshine, cordinator that he rented from.

Plenty of shenanigans go down I this book, and a fun forced proximity situation arises when there is a plumbing issue in the cottage.

Summer is absolutely adorable with Roman and they have the sweetest bond over cookies, fun summer days, and tree swings. This little found family finds their way without even realizing it. But we all know good story isn’t complete with a little problem solving needed. The biggest is the vast difference of worlds summer and Daniel live in. Summer runs the cottage and others like it and hope to one day own them and support her family… Daniel is a pro hockey player who is only off for the off season and then must go back. The question will be can they make it.

I will say this and it’s vague as to not giveaway any spoilers but a caught in the rain moment will always steal my heart!

This gives such a light, heartfelt escape that would be perfect for a sweet summer romance 💞

The story follows Summer, a small town resident fighting to protect her families rental college from big city developers. When a hockey player and his son become an unexpected tenant for the summer, everything changes…

Daniel was the kind of character that ticked all the boxes, tall, handsome, single dad, hockey player and charming in a quietly confident way.

I felt the pull between him and Summer instantly and the romance builds with plenty of tension. I particularly liked how Daniel falls first, showing his vulnerability beneath the hard hockey player exterior.

Daniel’s son, Roman was a little cutie and I particularly liked the chapters between him and his dad.

The conflict around Daniel’s career choices felt a little rushed for me and I would have liked a bit more depth to how he navigated the decisions he made. I also thought Summer changed her mind pretty quickly about not getting involved with him 😂

Overall, a cosy, feel good sports / small town romance 💕 I look forward to reading Fall’s story in book 2!

XOXO, Summer is Summer Season and single dad and hockey player Daniel Sutton’s story. It’s a small town, feel good, witty romance set in Mountain Laurel Cove and I quickly become invested in this couple and their journey.
Summer is the eldest sibling and after her parents passed away she has been holding her sisters and her grandmother together. Loving the small town she grew up in has her fighting to keep it as is so her time is pulled in all directions from managing the family owned rental cottages to looking after her grandmother.
Daniel has rented one of the cottages for the summer to spend time and reconnect with his 8 year old son, Roman and this man stole from heart from the moment I met him. So will Summer or Daniel ever find time for themselves and possibly follow their hearts……..
The chemistry is hot and the banter is witty but it was the watching Summer and Daniel flirt around their feelings that had me smiling. This is a beautifully written, entertaining, heartwarming and witty story that movies are made from.

XOXO, Summer by S.L. Scott is a heartwarming, small-town, feel-good summer love story that blends emotional depth and charming characters into a swoon-worthy romance. Set in the a cute little small-town named Mountain Laurel Cove, we get to meet the FMC Summer, a young woman determined to save her town from big-city developers, and the MMC Daniel Sutton, a hockey player that needs help cleaning up his reputation. One of the novel's greatest strengths I felt is the character development between the main characters. Their chemistry is evident from the beginning, but it is the emotional vulnerability they share that truly elevates the romance. Overall, XOXO, Summer is is a delightful contemporary romance that offers a perfect escape for fans of small-town love stories.

I received an ARC copy from The Author Agency. Thank you so much for giving me a chance to read and voluntarily review this novel!

What a sweet story! From the sweet dedication to the ending, this book had me swooning.

Dear Universe, can we start requesting men? Because Daniel Sutton is top of the list in terms of men I wish were real. His growly, grumpy, single dad, only sweet for his son, actually a famous person persona had me wishing he was in MY kitchen.

I love that Summer was strong, independent, and uniquely herself. Seeing her fall for him because of who he was as a person was the best!

This is perfection for anyone looking for independent, business- owning FMC, single dad, hockey player, grumpy x sunshine, only one bed, cute kid, soft for his son, small town summer read.

I received this as an ARC and I’m leaving an honest review.

“We’ll still have this. I promise you. Tomorrow is just one of many days ahead. We have forever.”

Summer Seasons has spent her life helping take care of her sisters Spring, Autumn & Winter and is determined to save the rental cottage next door. Daniel is a famous hockey player who rents a cottage to spend the summer with his son.

I’m a sucker for a single-dad story! The fact that Summer and her sisters are all named after the seasons is cute. I love Daniel’s son, he was a cute edition to the story.

Thank you Hambright PR for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I just finished the audiobook of XOXO, Summer and I loved it. The narrators were perfect for this fun romance story. The story had just the things that pull you in. There were great main characters who had an instant attraction and supportive family that add their own support to the story. And yes there is a Happily Ever After.

“You Don’t have to be strong all the time. You Don’t have to travel life’s path alone. I’ll always be here for you” Summer Season’s life hasn’t been easy. But meeting famous hockey player, Daniel Sutton will change their lives in a way that they never saw coming. Powerful love story. The audiobook with Callie Dalton and Sean Master is great.

What a cute and lovely romance - summer vibes all the way! Our FMC is Summer Season (how perfect) and she falls for hockey star Daniel Sutton when he and his son stay at the cottages in their small town. I loved them falling and the sisters and Dolly are the best side characters. Can’t wait for each girl to get their match! This was a 4.5 star read and it was really great!
