While this is the first book in this series I didn't realise and read the second book 'James' first, so reading this was a kind of catch-up. I liked Marcus, he's the oldest son of Duncan Gillespie, he's over two hundred years old and a Vampyre and he's finally found his mate, his one true love, Anais. Anais is working for Gillespie, Pattullo & Hindmarch, her six months is nearly up and she's in China with Marcus and his brother James. Marcus can wait no longer, being a Vampyre he has an enormous amount of patience cultivated over the years but six months is a long time when you've finally found the one. I wish I'd read this first but I'm glad I did read it and not just move onto 'Daniel' as I considered doing. This is a good start to the series and I will be continuing on but it's very similar and I'm hoping it's not going to be the same with all these books. While I appreciate there will always be similarities, Vampyres finding human mates and an evil force looming I'm hoping Daniels book is a little different.
A hot sexy Vampyre and a smart tough as nails female lawyer! What a great combination! If this book is any indication of what is to come in this series hold on tight because its going to be a wild ride! CC MacKenzie ALWAYS writes such strong, sexy characters and she doesn't disappoint here! I want Marcus to be my lawyer! I cannot wait for this series to continue!!
CC MacKenzie has done it again. Big Trouble in China is a great beginning to her vampyre series. The characters are well developed and the chemistry between Anais and Marcus is sizzling. I can't wait to read the next.
I really enjoyed this book. CC MacKEnzie knows how to bring her characters to life. This book has a hot male vamp and a smart heroine . What a great start to the series. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I read this in one day. I could not put it down.
All I can say is WOW! I absolutely love the twist on the vamprye romance! The descriptions of the transformation to a newborn is incredible. Also the sex scenes are not for the feint of heart! Leaves you wanting more!
I had so much fun reading this. I highly recommend it! You couldn't ask for more: great characters, vampyres, lots of mysteries and power and, if course, lots of sizzling burn-the-pages hot loving. I can't wait for the next one!
I love how diff this book is from the author's other series .. the Book had it's moments I had to laugh at some parts it is a really good read.. Can not wait to read the next one

Book 3 of The Vampyre Legal Chronicles - Gia's Song - coming SOON!
OMG I loved this book, I don't normally read this type of romance book but my friends kept telling me to give it a try, so glad I did. This book pulls you in from the start and it's like your there and you can feel their emotions and you have to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. Marcus Gillespie is a lawyer and Anais Walker is hoping to become a junior partner for the firm. What she doesn't know is Marcus is a Vampyre and he has chosen her as his mate, they are in China for some business dealings and she makes a mistake and from there things start to change and things get steamy and oh so HOT and you just have to keep reading to find out how it ends...... or does it this is the first in the series and a must read this book made me laugh, hold my breath and even angry at times
I do not understand the good ratings for this book. The entire book is Marcus forcing his wants onto Anais and then her eventually forgiving him, even though he never puts any of her needs or wishes above his own. He even uses his mind control powers to make her ignore her concerns about him and to make her bite him so she could be forced to become a vampire. The message of this book seems to be that it's ok to let a guy force you as long as he says he loves you in the end. He doesn't need to prove he loves you or anything. He just has to show up at the end and save you, then confess his love and BAM you'll get your HEA.
I enjoyed the premise of this book, but the farther into it you go, the more graphic the sexual scenes become. I actually 'hid' the Kindle screen when my daughter walked by and that was a big signal to me that I did not need to continue. So, I won't judge the book as good or bad, just one that I will not be reading. DNF %50. Since there is no way to keep a book in your library w/o it being TBR or reading, or read, I moved the book to the 'read' category and added it to my DNF shelf as well.
My daughter Denise has been after me to read this forever. Well I finally did and I have to admit I did find it interesting. It is not the sort of romance I normally read, but it held my interest and wanted me to read more, which is what a good book needs to do, so I bought the second one to read. Good job CC it wasn't what I thought a book about blood suckers would be. It was a good read
A quick fun read, the story drags a bit in the middle and there's a tad to much angst for my taste. On the other hand, nicely creative version of Vampyre society in a trope where it's hard to be original.
There are some good points to this story, but some of it are over the top.
Marcus is a vampyre and has been mentoring Anais for the past six months. She lusts after him, but she doesn't know his secret until he decides it's time to reveal who he really is. The way he goes about it isn't impressive in the least.
Anais refuses to accept her fate even if it's too late to go back in time. It's difficult to connect with them as the deep feelings aren't palpable in any way. When Anais is in danger, she then sees things for what they are, and she goes a little mad with her power over Marcus. They don't come across as being in love until they redeem themselves towards the end.
It's a good read, but lacks depth and connections.
The writing and editing is very good. The story seems rushed. I did not feel building romantic tension between the leads, and the resolution of the major conflict was not believable.
Anais and Marcus make the most remarkable couple. Anais did get a bit on my nerves toward the end. I had more respect for Marcus' brother, James. James truly loved his wife and wanted to give her a choice.
It was an interesting idea basing a world of vampires in the corporate world and to set the story in the Orient. Regrettably, there were several misses to this shorter novel.
First, I felt as though I kept being told how large Marcus and the other vampires were in comparison to the heroine. It got repetitive. The author also used the concept of a vampiric nature that was akin to a guiding inner voice. While unique, it didn't work for me. Perhaps it was the writing style that did not work for me. The paragraphs were often short and the dialogue did not always have a ring of realism. For example, Marcus would say "darlin' " which evoked a Texan drawl rather than the Scottish heritage of Marcus. In fact, Marcus was a bit of an unlikeable character, who didn't completely redeem himself.
Secondly, the most interesting characters was Ezekiel and the female medical vampire. They were secondary characters and sadly, the other three books do not focus on these two characters (based on the book titles). And, James seemed to disappear for part of the book, yet the point is made that Marcus, James and the heroine are sharing a suite?
And lastly, it was stated that this was a self-contained story; I respectfully disagree. I think the author could have provided more closure than what this got, especially since this was a short novel. A little more time on the secondary characters, plus time spent on redeeming Marcus would have strengthening this story and possibly hooked me to read the other novels.
A great read in itself! As hot or maybe a bit hotter than the Ludlow Series (one of my faves)and this is coming from someone who is NOT a big fan of Vampire stories... oh excuse me... Vampyre series. I read this when CC (one of my stalked authors) posted this in her fb page. Gave it a try and CC did NOT DISAPPOINT!
I have read the last published book as well to check if it is worth buying the books in between. Much to my delight, book 4, Adam is even way way better, more intense, more suspense as compared to This book 1, Marcus. Which confirms that CC does not write half cooked books for the sake of creating a series. Each book (at least the first and last) are great reads in itself with well though out plots. Can be enjoyed in chronological order of the series or enjoy like me,Read the start, end, then mix those in between. Of course reading it as a series will be the best.
Waiting eagerly for the next installment. Book 2 & 3 will come with me into my vacation. Nothing like HOT VAMPYRES under the HoT Sun. (Coz Vamps and Sun go together, like they are besties).
Oh. Did I say this is f...ing H.O.T. as well????? Yup, I am not too sure if Marcus tops Nico now... I am still deliberating.
Anais has worked the last 6 months with the hopes of becoming a partner in the law firm of Gillespie, Pattullo & Hindmarch. What she doesn't know is that, the firm is run by Vampyre. And one totally hot Vampyre Marcus Gillespie has had his eyes on Anais as his future mate. Anais has felt attracted to Marcus, but never dreamed he was interested in her. He turns her, and she is devastated that he did this without telling or asking her. One of my favorite lines from the book is the following, Marcus comes into the bedroom and Anais is missing when he finds her he says the following ...
'Anais, sweetheart. Come down from the ceiling. Now, there's a good girl.'
Very hot passion, Marcus is totally in love with Anais. Loved the interaction between these two, it was very entertaining to read how they dealt with what she considers betrayal by being turned. But there are problems for all Vampyre from a surprise source.
The second book " Dirty Little Secrets" is now available in the series with book three "Gia's Song" due out soon.
Anais Walker's life has been following a plan - graduate with a Law Degree, work hard and become a partner at Gillespie, Pattullo & Hindmarch. She is almost at the end of her 6 month probation - she just has to get through the next few weeks and get a good review.
Ruthless corporate lawyer Marcus Gillespie has two secrets. He’s a Vampyre Prince and finally after two hundred and thirty years he has finally found the woman for him. For six months he has been mentoring Anais and now he feels he is ready to make a move on her - they just have to get the lucrative deal signed by the Chinese government in Shanghai. However Anais makes a costly mistake and she is right where he needs her to be - if only they can get through the complications this situation is going to throw up for them both.
This was a great story with lots of drama and intrigue. There were plenty of surprises along the way and as always the path to love is never smooth. The writing was good, everything was described it great detail and lots of information was given about Vampyres.
Marcus Gillespie is a vampyre prince. It goes without saying that he's hot and loaded. Anais Walker is working for Marcus. And we know what happens next. But read this book if you wanna know how it happens.
I have lots of likes and dislikes with this story. There are moments that are just plain cliche and repetitive but i guess if you're looking for a vampire paranormal romance to read, this is one's right for you.
I downloaded this book for free and I really enjoyed it, but my only problem is that it was to short and the story felt rushed. This was the first book I read from this author and I will continue with this series. I just wish she had given us more details about the characters. I would have loved to see Marcus and Anais have more time together.
