I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. I am a holistic birth doula who seeks out and recommends holistic strategies to support healthy pregnancy, maternal functioning and good health for the new baby. Doulas do not often work with families prior to conception but I do offer a 2 hour Conscious Conception class that covers fertility charting, preconception nutrition and emotional and relationship preparation. Rika's book is an excellent resource for nutrition to a support healthy body that is ready to conceive.

As a childbearing woman myself, I found the nutrition information very helpful to addressing adrenal fatigue that was a result of having 3 babies and doula work on top of the stress that my body absorbed in college and as a busy professional prior to having children. The almond bread recipe has been a helpful part of my healing while I implemented many of the nutrition tips in the book. When I start craving bread and grains that tend to increase my body's PH level, the almond bread recipe is a really nice replacement.

The second half of the book covers yoga techniques that physically and emotionally support the body to be ready for conception. Many of the yoga techniques serve to reduce stress and to calm anxiety related to health and fertility. Engendering a positive outlook helps the body will confident and calm so that it can work optimally.

A strength of the book are the quotes in each section from women who encountered success after implementing the techniques and strategies. Hearing from women's voices and experiences is an important part of learning from community and valuing the feminine perspective which is so often marginalized. While the suggestions in the book essentially amount to a lifestyle change, the perspective shares by the women quoted provide the encouragement to get started and try it. Having implemented many of these techniques, I know I am healthier and calmer. I can feel the foundation (HPA axis in particular) my body working better. I will definitely refer my clients to this book in future classes and in my work.

After having a wonderful first pregnancy and an amazing birth with my daughter
I had tremendous faith in my body’s ability to have a baby.
Last year faith in my body was shattered, I suffered a miscarriage. Having fallen
pregnant really easily twice, I assumed that this would be the case again. My
periods were completely irregular and I felt like I had lost all control. Yoga had
supported me through my first pregnancy. When I heard about Eat, Breathe,
Conceive and I signed up for the programme.
I worked through yoga sequences which helped me to relax. This became
my daily practice. I also looked at diet and nutrition and I made changes to
help support my fertility and also looked at ways to support hubby’s reproductive
health. I felt so much better within myself, had more energy, and this
new regime gave me another focus than ‘trying’ for a baby.
Slowly my faith in my ability to produce a healthy baby began to return. I felt
connected to my body again. I started to trust it.
2 months later I found out that I was pregnant!
In February this year, we welcomed baby to the world. I would honestly urge
any woman who wants to take control over their own fertility, or who is seeking
some support on the journey to becoming a mummy to try this programme!

We had been having problems conceiving for four years. I had stage IV endometriosis.
I worked in a stressful environment on constant shift work and
needed to alleviate some of the pressures in my life. The yoga and nutrition
sessions focused on the changes I could make to support my body into pregnancy.
The combination of yoga, nutrition and deep relaxation was life changing.
Deep relaxation included deep breathing, visualisation, meditation which
was so amazing - it transformed me. This work taught me how to stay ‘in the
moment’ how to stay ‘present’ which is so important when your mind is racing
at a 100 mph with the ‘not knowing’ of infertility and the enormous pressure
of everyday life. The nutritional advice and support was priceless. I genuinely
felt wonderful - inside and out! I felt like my stress levels had reduced, I felt
positive in my outlook and extremely healthy too! I am delighted to say that
we are now... 29 weeks pregnant. The changes I’ve made in my body and mind
through this work have had a massive bearing on the outcome and I can’t
the book enough and right now I am enjoying pregnancy yoga!

excellent, very practical and enlightened information on how to treat yourself and your body to boost your fertility and create the environment for a healthy pregnancy. I would recommend to anyone to read this that is thinking of becoming pregnant. I made it a gift and my friend uses the principles on a daily bases and it delighted with how she feels in general, we soon hope to hear of her conception;)
