Mostly okay Mostly a good read if some things don't make sense. Like, why does he even go to the academy? He literally earns and learns nothing there. His progress is from source external and secret. He literally has no reason to be there thats explained. He could train up to high levels in secret before exposing himself.
Instead he gets creepily close to a 12 year old girl when hes 100. Then goes all soft and instead of killing someone who tried to kill him, he tries to just avoid them? He should be making some poison or assassinating them in secret, not....just avoiding it.
By the end I'm just thinking. Tell them all to screw off and just leave. And stop giving into a 12 year old girl like she's your girlfriend who you have to keep happy. Tell her, if she doesn't mind her own business, then no more magic lessons. End of story. Gah.
A well written and entertaining regression story with some minor flaws.
I liked how he makes amends to his former failures but didn't quite understand why he would visit the academy. He knows the magic, learns nothing, trains alone and isn't really interested in social contacts. So why does he go through all the troubles to stay there?
The book could use some editing to get rid of the repeated statements..
Well written with likable characters. For a first in what I hope is a series it was engaging. It has the one trope I hate most which is hiding true strength. In the case of this tale, I'm not sure why he went to such lengths. Other than no one believing his reason for talent, there didn't seem to be any repercussion that were untenable.
Well written for the genre, hoping for another book or 5 in the series. Ends on a bit of a cliff hanger but definitely shows the author is getting better at character and arc construction. Made for an enjoyable morning and I hope you can give it a shot.
