Life in a small town can be quite simple without all the complications of having too much to choose from, in a normal family. But, what happens when your family is constantly teetering on the edge of normal into the realm of dysfunction and instability? Not everything is always great and easy. Shon's story is a prime example. With a life of constant let-downs, drama, and few positive things to turn to, Shon races through his world trying desperately to keep his head above water and make sense of the cards he was dealt. His mother is constantly trying to create a world of normalcy out of the chaos his father brings when a girl comes along and changes everything. Shon finds comfort in Amy and feels he has finally found what he needs to keep him sane in this life. Finally nearing adulthood, Shon and Amy begin to plan their lives together when tragedy strikes and sends their lives into a new whirlwind of instability. Shon finds himself looking at new ways of coping while his family finally begins to pull themselves together.
