Maeve Morgan #15

Death from a Purple Rash: A 1920s Murder Mystery

A strange purple rash. A house full of secrets. And a Countess asking far too many questions.

A remote Scottish cottage sounded like the perfect escape for Countess Maeve Morgan before her wedding. Quiet hills. Fresh air. No murders.

Naturally, it lasted less than a day.

When Maeve, Fi, and Roskill stumble upon a strange abandoned croft deep in the Highlands, they discover what appears to be an entire family sitting peacefully around a kitchen table… stone dead, each marked by a disturbing purple rash.

Then Fi vanishes.

A violent storm. A blow to the head. A mysterious compound hidden in the wilderness. And a cheerful bearded man who may know far more than he admits.

Soon Maeve finds herself tangled in a web of wartime secrets, vanished bodies, coded notebooks, suspicious government officials, and a terrifying chemical mystery someone is desperate to keep buried.

But in the Highlands, secrets rarely stay buried for long.

Especially when Maeve Morgan starts asking questions.

With her wedding only weeks away, Maeve must uncover the truth before the purple rash claims more victims… and before someone decides the inquisitive countess knows far too much.

Perfect for fans of witty historical mysteries, eccentric characters, clever twists, and irresistible Scottish intrigue.

Death from a Purple Rash is the 15th Maeve Morgan Mystery by CM Rawlins. Maeve Morgan, now the Countess of Strathfulton and Baritone, travels north to the Scottish highlands on a trip preceding her wedding to Robbie Monroe. She is accompanied by her secretary, Fi Hamilton, chauffeur Roskill and other friends. When they arrive at their destination and plan to go out exploring they are told not to go north. So of course they do go north and find four bodies with a purple rash. Maeve is knocked out, when she awakes, she finds herself, Fi, and Roskill in a strange place. A number of odd things happen involving various members of the larger group. Eventually they come to understand that they have stumbled upon government secrets

This book felt different from earlier books in the series It could be read as a stand alone, but those who have read earlier books in the series will better understand the characters and the relationships among them.

Another enticing mystery by CM Rawlins. On what is supposed to be a relaxing pre-wedding trip, Maeve encounters a family sitting around a table in a cabin on the property. Strangely enough, all four of them are deceased and they also have a purple rash. Maeve and her team to the rescue, although Roskill is seemingly acting strange. Is he aware of what happened to these people with the purple rash? Is he holding back information. Definitely a must read.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Once again Maeve to the rescue! They are in the Highlands of Scotland having a holiday with Fiona, Mrs Robinson, Cess, Freddie & Pudding & Roskill being the only servant with them. He was very hesitant about the trip. Then, when Fi went off on her own the first morning, Maeve & Roskill go looking for her. Maeve comes across a Croft with four dead people in it, all with a purple rash on their faces. They all got abducted. Eventually They escape & things get very interesting indeed.

Felt way less organized and considerably more padded with unnecessary verbiage than any of the previous books in the series
