Holy hell. Some crazy stuff happens here, both science and magic wise, with some character drama thrown in.
As always, the battles are not just about force but rather about figuring your opponent out and outsmarting them (having Imagine Breaker, Meltdowner, Offence Armor and a super-strong mech suit help though).

Overall one of my favorite volumes of the series so far. (Hamazura and the girls of ITEM are super back!)

After several struggles to honor just one girl's smile, finally as gears back to normal... Well, at least that's how someone not used to Index would think

About the beginning, there's not much to talk about.... It was interesting to see Kamijou Touma's school life returning slightly to normal as his misfortune attacked him in a comical way and a slightly more complicated script unfolding hid behind the scenes (conspiracy theory?)

Obviously, the calm in Index's universe couldn't hold for that long, and soon despair takes over... As always, expect several narrative exchanges, but unlike NT8 which created several climaxes and cut them off in the middle (Act normally done to analyze the situation during a disaster or just bring some new information), here the narrative exchange is very meaningful and connective, with many textual and very diverse patterns, which is by no means, tedious.

The tension is well done, all the care is little and once again, several plans and perceptions unfold as the pages pass. Furthermore, the concepts about the "omnipotence paradox" and how dispersed the groups are here in this volume are very interesting and only leverage the tension even further (they also make the narrative richer with their beautiful metaphors and poetry...).

The writing techniques put here are varied, uniform and well used. They manage to keep you entertained like in an amusement park, where assorted toys can give you various complex and euphoric feelings.

The main technique here is to link teachings from the past with the present, giving an importance and a better view to two characters. The difference here is that some sentences will not be unidirectional, but that they expand and link with several other terms and situations, sometimes in a subtle way and others that the author feels obliged to explain. It's as if the writing techniques here are like a pro bowling, where with just one ball, a strike can be made, which implies that such a simple writing technique in the hands of a professional can link multiple contents with just one play (Of course, at the same time it could also imply that it was a fluke, as a normal person can also strike a strike. Nevertheless, so many hits in a row, so many strikes... Yes, these show the skills of a professional.).
I think this is a really cool way to tell a story and one that greatly honors the flow of information that preceded it..

Simply the story and concepts behind ST.Germain were amazing and the way it was researched and re-adapted to the Kamachii fashion was majestic. Seriously, how much creativity is there in this man?
Mystery and their resolutions were very well coordinated.... Not much to say, it was a highly decent volume and I'm impressed by its low score on goodreads (maybe other readers saw something I didn't see or maybe... It would be the contrary?).
As always, the "Between Lines" doing a great job on the narrative issues of the volumes, especially by elevating the mystery without actually progressing the story.

Even if the work doesn't have a large amount of these moments, the quality surpasses this amount... What I'm talking about here is despair
Because Index often brings hope either through its writing or the actions of the characters (usually explained by the environment, moment, past or individual personality), it may seem like a misplaced term, but the most beautiful hope can only be achieved. by overcoming despair. It's like the Ying-Yang, an undeniable balance that plagues humanity
In Index, these moments are wonderful. They're not one-dimensional at all, it's not something so vague that it can be completely understood with just a brief glimpse. No, it's a lot more work that touches on writing, narrative, monologues, characters and environment, which really embodies the purest essence of despair.
The use of metaphors, metonyms and beautiful poetry immaculate by despair seem to create a paradox, which ironically is also another figure of speech used here.

Simply magnificent... Kamachii, you have my respect (especially after NT9 and end of Biohacker arc).

Terms established from the beginning of magic are used here to create a crazy theater. A stage where actors make mistakes, create the most convenient lies and in the process, lose something of their own being. Obviously I'm talking about the ST. Germain and his insane plans that touch on magic. Things that once seemed just magical terms and cultures created to expand Index's universe, are used here to give a purpose to the script's subjective continuation, to a point where plot twists blend together in a confusing but still whimsical, similar way to the artistic style of abstractionism and its paintings

I think this volume plays the key role of further expanding Index's magical nonsense and the insane status-quo of powers, but still very neat. I feel the magic has started to get even more interesting and may end up leaning towards my favorite side of the story.

Finally, I state my conclusion... If NT7 was a landmark for the dark side of the academic city and its technological insanity, NT12 is Index's magic peak. These two volumes are uniquely separate, but that does not mean that they will never be able to touch each other given the environmental and temporal circumstances.... Yes, this defines science and magic well.

The interesting thing about this volume was also to see how heroes would deal with the problem of saving someone, or rather... Extending this fact further, this is a story of people sharing their sins and trying to resolve them selfishly as a complex and manipulative plot unfolds behind the screens.

Yes, I think this fits well enough for the kind of dark and fanciful story this has become... In the end, no matter how hard you try to deny or lie to yourself, revenge will bring sin with it.
"My dream is to come home smiling, to be able to look back and see that I haven't lost anything" By Kamijou Touma... Strangely, this sentence defines well what Kamijou Touma always wanted and about his idealism in seeing a little light in each being human in the world.

EXTRA: Probably one of the most underrated volumes in the series... Well, at least in my view.

EXTRA FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY READ THE VOLUME (Obviously contains spoilers)
.....
The few script flaws I found in this volume end up being explained by the world...... Like which one? Kind of like no one in the academic city recognizing Touma's actions, but you could explain how Aleister is once again acting behind the scenes... Something that confirms my theory is that only people outside the academic city recognize Kamijou Touma and his deeds.
.....
Damn, the epilogue was amazing... I expect a lot from the magic gods, I liked their personalities that touch their religions.
.....
AIHANA ETSU!? Damn, his "appearance" at the end was really impactful.... Hope to see more of him in the next volumes (Kanou Shinka was also a good character)
.....
I truly believe that Hamazura Shiage is a level 5 and his esper power is his incredible luck...... Yes, he has his own ways of working things out and is shrewd under the circumstances, but...... Wow, his fight against Touma was interesting, but seeing that Hamazura won mainly by luck was a little disappointing (Still, it doesn't make any discrepancies... People believe Touma's loss was forced, as in NT10 he faced the world , but forget to tell that most of the time there Touma just didn't faint because most of his enemies kept keeping him awake with several shock waves).

I had never heard of St Germain before reading this, but after reading up on St Germain, this was an interesting spin on his story. Also, the way Kamachi conveyed that an emotionally shattered kid who has just lost a friend will look for someone to take their anger out on rather than legitimately thinking things through was surprisingly real.
