I was offered the chance to read this debut novel by the author and I am honoured.
Leo and Jade are a new favourite book couple of mine. Both suffering from loss, they find each other and it is both heart-warming and wonderful to read how their love progresses.
This book had it all...drama, passion, suspense and wonderful characters.
I recommend this lovely story and I cannot wait to read more from this wonderful new author.
'When You Least Expect It' is a very sweet love story filled with suspense and surprise. Catherine did a very nice job developing the characters, which made it easy to experience the emotions both main characters felt.
I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Catherine's work.
A great debut novel for Catherine. I really enjoyed this book. There were different aspects that will catch the reader right away. The only thing I wish I could have had, was MORE! lol A goodread for anyone!
When you least expect it By Catherine Scott Review 4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
I was really enjoying this book from the start. It was developed well, and was very intriguing. The story line follows a young lady named Jade, who experienced many different challenges for such a young age. After losing immediate family members she becomes withdrawn and unsure of letting people get close to prevent loss. I can understand her reasoning, as the writer did a great job of describing the thoughts and feelings in each stage. This continued throughout the story line. With a nudge from friends Nick and Lisa, she agrees to meet a brother of a friend of Nick’s, Joe. Joe seems uninterested in Jade, which seems to fit along the lines of Jade’s feelings to meeting this stranger. However there are things going on behind the scenes that no one is aware of, things and actions that will soon change Jades life forever.
Sexy art teacher Leo Blackbird has had his share of loss and grief. Lumbering into a classroom he thought was empty just might have been his best move yet. The author really hit the nail on the head with this character. I was drooling all over my kindle over him. I think he is my new favorite book boyfriend. Sexy, slightly shy, manly, thoughtful, um did I say sexy? Yeah, you’ll love him too when you pick up your copy. And you’re going to want to. All I was thinking was Jade you lucky, lucky girl. She deserves such a caring partner.
I think the characters had nice development from the start, and continued to grow throughout the book. The first part of the book was great, the middle was very uneventful, and then the end was nail biting action. It would have flowed better in my opinion to have some more drama happen in the middle stages and have a balanced ending. The plot became a bit predictable, but was still pleasant.
This is a great debut from this author. I can see myself getting hooked to this series. I plan to start the next book in the series which features Leo’s father, Ben Blackbird, immediately. I am hoping there will be a book for each of the supporting characters, as I became just as attached to them as I did the main couple.
Jade is such a strong beautiful woman who doesn't dwell on the material things of life. She is truly wise beyond her years. Learning to deal with the events of her past and overcome the next hurdle to keep living. Working at an early age to make sure that needs were met. Living on her own with a purpose in order to not let her mom down. When she decides to move and take on this teaching job she realizes this is the next step in moving forward. She however did not expect to find Leo.
Leo is not stranger to tragedy and learning to move on with your life as to not be lost in the past. The only real difference between him and Jade is that he is at a different point in his own journey. Leo is such a caring and loving man. He is confident enough to understand that Jade is not ready for any more drastic changes in her life and willing to be there in whatever form she needs until she is ready. What Jade doesn't yet realize is that she has brought Leo back to life.
Watching Jade on her life journey while slowly letting Leo in a little more each day. Is there a hope for an HEA for everyone? Do some of us manage to get two changes at HEA? Catherine as has done a great job in building characters that you fall in love with. They make you hope that things will work out for them. You even anticipate a little bit of the story and try to see how the secondary characters fit into the story or more possible stories. Here is hoping that maybe there is more to come from this small town.

Wow, what a great debut book! Catherine Scott weaves a suspenseful, character-driven tale of loss, friendship, danger, and love. Jade is a strong female character, always a plus for me, that has risen above the abandonment of her father and the loss of the rest of her family. While pulling herself out of the darkness of loss, she goes to college and is befriended by Nick and Lisa, her employers. Except for her two friends, she has not really had a social life through her college years. Her friends try to set her up with someone and he becomes the catalyst of the progression of the story. Completely uprooting her life, she takes a job as a special education teacher in a small school away from her friends. She intrigued by the art teacher across the hall, Leo Blackbird. From that meeting, Ms. Scott weaves a beautiful story of longing, friendship, and love. The storyline is well paced and the characters immediately find their way into your heart. I can hardly wait to read more from this new author.
This is a wonderful story that highlights how broken someone can become when tragedy eclipses their life but it is also a great story of overcoming the circumstance and sadness and reaching out and finding life is a eternal bud that blooms with the help of friends, love and connections. It is also a story of the darkness within some people who suffer injuries and instead the staying course and continuing treatment they instead desire harm. All in all this is a touching story of love found, friendships strengthened, a definite feel good story that is a great introduction to the trilogy!! Great Debut!!
Although I felt the opening to this story was a little hichel de pickledy, rushing from one story thread to another, and if you would pardon the pun, When you Least Expect it, the plot settles down when Jade and Leo meet, into a really amazing story. The relationship between the two of them was shaky at first but it develops, detailing a building love affair amongst the heartache of their pasts. This is stunning debut story from Catherine Scott, which makes this Author one to put on your watch list.
Do you remember the first time you opened your heart and let love take root? Do you remember the feeling of believing in something new and unexpected? Of taking that leap of faith when all you know is pain and lose? Catherine Scott delivers an amazing story of all this and more. Her characters bring you joy and happiness. I love Jade and Leo. I enjoyed watching the passion grow into a deep love. This story has adventure, a little intrigue, and so much hope. A must read.
Jade is trying to get her falling life back together. Her friends fructose her up with what they think is a nice guy. But he ends up being a psycho who stalks her all over the place. Even after a move and job change she is still looking over her shoulder. She meets a nice guy named Leo who sweeps her slowly off her feet. Will they be able to date and further their relationship or will she be caught off guard and made to suffer more.
This was a wonderful debut novel! Leo and Jade are a beautiful couple who draw strength from each other. I like the fact that Jade is very relatable. This story is about love, overcoming loss, and finding healing. It has just enough sizzle to keep you turning the pages. Catherine Scott does a great job of reeling you in and keeping you hooked until the very end. I can't wait to read more from this author.
The story of two souls that have suffered great loses! Danger lurking in every corner... My kind of read!!! The characters were very well developed and the plot extremely believable! A page turner! Once I started I was not able to put it down and I loved every page of it!
A great debut novel by Catherine Scott! Definitely looking forward to more!
I love this book. Two people who went through a lot together was defiantly meant to be together.. I love Jade and Leo's story I just hope that there will be another one. Thanks Catherine for introducing me to Jade and Leo.
I enjoyed this story about Leo & Jade. The way they meet & the pacing of their relationship was a good read! I love his protectiveness over her! There's a bit of action going on, as well, w/ Jade's stalker. We get 3 POV's in this story - Jade, Leo, and the stalker, which was quite interesting, getting to see into his mind as well!
For natural editors - there ARE quite a few issues here. They can take you out of the story a bit, but I felt like this story is worth reading through them.
The next book is about Leo's father & his unexpected second chance at love. It looks like a good story as well, and I'm looking forward to reading it! : )
I think I'm in love!! I haven't read a book by this author, but I've clearly been missing out. I loved the chemistry between Jade and Leo. It was an instant attraction for both of them, but it progresses slowly. Jade has so much heartache from a very young age with the death of her mother and sister she has built a wall around herself. Nick and Lisa, Jade's friends, slowly chip away at the wall, but everyone else she keeps at arms length. They try to set her up with someone, so she won't be so lonely, that plan backfires in a big way. She now has a stalker on her hands. When she moves she meets a widower named Leo and sparks fly. What she doesn't know Joe, her stalker, had been bidding his time waiting for his time to strike. A wonderful heartfelt novel. I would highly recommend it!!!!
Amanda Jade Davis has experienced a terrible loss in her life. She moves to get away from it. She meets her best friends there. When she finishes school she has to move for a new job. Leo Blackbird is a teacher at the new school Jade is teaching at. He plans on making Jade his. This is a cute story and a fast read. I read it in 3 hours. 4 Stars
This is an Amazing book. I love Jade and Leo is swoon worthy. There are twists in turn through out, and the suspense just about killed me. If you like ready HEA this book is for you. I will be reading more from this Author.....
