Step F*@k #1

Step F*@k: Book One

Rate this book
SWIPE LEFT.

That's all I did. A few too many glasses of wine with my best friend and the bitch convinced me to go on one of those dating websites.

A one-night stand.

A booty call.

And you know what? It.was.amazing.

I spent all night in a sexy stranger's arms, hot and sweaty, until it was time to sneak out and do the walk of shame back to my apartment.

I never thought I'd see sexy stranger again, and I was totally fine with that - until my mother's wedding.

She's getting remarried, see. And sexy stranger just happens to be my new stepbrother.

All the wine in the world isn't going to make this better.

I quite liked it. But why so short? It was like a chapter or two from a normal book. I guess I should be used to it by now and not be bothered when I start another damn serial:) Oh well, I'm addicted to them. But ok, though short, it is a good promise of something more interesting in the future.

Emma broke up with her cheating boyfriend six months ago and hasn't seen any action since then, her friend Megan wants to help and sets her up a profile on a dating site. Emma soon gets a hot date with a SexyStranger in one of the hotels in LA. His name is Jai and he is in LA only for a few days to attend his father's another wedding. Obviously, he is handsome, well build, hot chunk of a man. They spend some crazy steamy night together thinking it will be just one night stand. They are both oblivious to the fact that their paths will soon be crossed again...

Overall, good though very short and definitely hot reading. As usual recommended to serial lovers;)

Off to the next one...
"I try not to think about the fact that the hottest sex I've ever had is with a man who is leaving in a few days, someone I am never going to see again. I push the thought out of my mind and proceed to fuck him like it's the last time we'll ever see each other.
Because it probably is."

I love forbidden love and while I am leery of the step sibling books, my inner serial whore won out and I had to read this one. I started this series last night with the intention of reading the first book and going to bed, hours later I finished the series. This first installment allows us to meet the hero and heroine.

Emma is an all american girl living to make her parents happy. She has dreams of being an artist, but choses to pursue her degree in architecture instead. This is a perfect example of Emma’s personality, she is always doing what she thinks is the right thing to do.

Jai is from England and only in town for a few weeks. His father is getting married and to make his trip across the pond a little more bearable he decides to meet up with a girl he meets online.

Emma isn’t the type of girl you meet online, as a matter of fact she is only online because her friend created a profile for her. Regardless, the stars align and lead to one super hot one night stand between Jai and Emma.

I have to say that I loved this story (for the most part…more on that in a bit).

I loved the premise that they didn’t know they were going to be related by marriage and that they randomly found each other through a dating website.

I thought Jai and Emma had great chemistry!

My one issue with the book was the ending. Now, I know I’m always complaining about cliffhangers and the such, but in this case, that wasn’t it. My issue was that there wasn’t one…an ending I mean. I finished the chapter, turned the page and it was blank. Nothing more to read. I hit 100%. And I was shocked. And if I’m being honest (and I am), I was kind of pissed. I mean, ok, it’s a serial…I knew that going in. But I expected there to be some kind of cliff. The saving grace…that I already have part 2 to move on to. (Yay me!!!)

But overall…this is a great start to the story of Jai and Emma. I can't wait to see what happens next!

OK, so I've finished Step F*@k and Step F*@k and the only thing I can tell you is ... SERIOUSLY. READ THIS. RIGHT NOW.

The story as a whole is sexy and fun and witty. It's like reading a sitcom. #True Story

I want to wait to do a full review of style and content until I have read the full story of Jai and Emma, but so far, everything is spot on!

So stay tuned .....

Step F*@k is a debut novel by Scarlett Ward which is divided in four segments set to be release separately.

Emma has been in a slump ever since her now ex-boyfriend cheated on her. But her best friend isn’t about to let her girly parts shrivel up or get spider webs due to lack of use. After setting up an online dating profile for Emma, she finds her a good candidate to hook up with. Who would have guessed her one night stand would shortly become her stepbrother?

Loath to be in L.A. to attend his father’s wedding, jai goes online to find a companion for a night. Unknowingly contacting a first time online dater that exceeds all of his expectations and leaves him wanting more.

Step F*@k is classified as a romance but I wish it would have been categorized under erotica in which case I wouldn’t have requested the ARC and would be in the position to rate it poorly.

In the first installment we’re introduced to Jai and Emma, the hero and heroine, and Emma’s best friend Megan. There’s all sorts of humor with these three and while Jai and Emma certainly have a hot night together, the nature of their meeting and setup doesn’t allow the reader to fully connect with them.

I could understand this, since it’s only the introduction and it did leave me curious as to what would be next. Overall, the first segment is a short and entertaining read.

The following segments start where the previous leaves off. In the second installment, Emma walks away from the best sex she’s ever had with a bitter taste and then soon discovers that the sexy stranger she only knows intimately is also set to be her stepbrother in just a few short days when their parents get married.

Even though she clears the air regarding her assumptions she’s still adamant to pursue anything further with Jai because of their soon to be kinship, which is truly a silly technicality. But Emma views having a relationship with Jai as incest, that is, until the moment their parent get married, not before. Thus starting and endless and irksome back and forth mood swings which not only infuriated Jai at one point, it also plummeted my rating.

Le sigh. I really don’t like giving bad reviews. But this was unavoidable.
The writing was novice but that’s usually ok for me in a debut novel. I’ll only take off half a star for that because I’m sure that putting out a book is no easy task. Besides the irritating, immature heroine, even though the hero didn’t annoy me, he didn’t win me over either. The plot drama was flimsy, but what really killed it for me was that it is marketed as a romance and even as an erotic romance here was zero of it, but copious amounts of gratuitous sex.

Another book annoyingly segmented into 4 parts...

*** 3 We're classy like that stars ***

In an attempt to get back on the horse six months after her relationship with a cheating boyfriend ended, Emma allows her best friend to create a profile for her on an online dating sight.
She meets a guy at his hotel who doesn't seem to be a complete psychopath and well...

I quite liked this first instalment even though there was no sense of anything taboo yet, I guess that's coming in the next volume. Emma's inner monologue and interactions with her best friend are rather funny. Jai is hot, dark haired, has tattoos and did I mention the british accent?

This was a pretty good quick, short read. We didn’t get too much information in this one but it was still an entertaining read.

I liked that Emma and Jai met online, for all intents and purposes on a “hookup” website. It was an interesting way to start out their relationship. I also really liked that throughout this first installment there was no revelation about there future familial relationships. Both characters are still in the dark and I was glad the author chose to do it like that.

I’m about to dive into the next one, I’m hoping it will be even better than the first.

This was a quick and entertaining read.
A young girl looking for fun. A dating site and a wicked friend who puts her up to it! A night at the hotel with a handsome young man is going to change everything!
This novella was short and I want to read the next one in order to understand the characters better. If you're looking for something short and sweet then this is a good choice! It ends on a cliffhanger and there are three more parts after it.

In part 1, we get a pretty good introduction to our characters and a nice setup to the story. LOVE the fact that Jai is British—after all, who can resist that accent? He’s also super hot and pretty uninhibited. Emma is pretty much his opposite-or so you might think. She comes across as shy and a bit sheltered, though it’s easy to see Jai is attracted to her pretty quickly. Her friend Megan is there to support her before Emma and Jai hook up, since she’s the one who pushed Emma into online dating in the first place.

The author does a great job of setting up the pretense for the series here in part 1, and it makes you eager to pick up part 2 ASAP once you’re done. Oh, and let us not forget to mention the steam-up-your-reader sex. Keep some ice handy…

For a short serial like this, all four parts pack a good punch, keep you engaged and excited for each part, and give you interesting-if at some times frustrating-characters. Each part can be read quickly-I finished all four in one evening. Even though it’s a quick read, it gives you a full story, and anyone who loves step-romances will really enjoy it. Overall rating for the complete serial…4 stars!

Combined Review

In The first instalment we meet Emma, a young college student who is still recovering from the betrayal of her last boyfriend when her best friend and flat mate signs her up for an online dating account.

While looking at her profile she is messaged by "sexy stranger" who invites her to his hotel room to meet.

Deciding to throw caution to the wind Emma heads to the hotel with her best friend, Megan, being dragged Along in the event he is a psychopath.

After a few drinks in the bar Jai and Emma proceed to his room for the main event of the evening.

As oft happens with these serials we get a small taste of some hot and steamy sex before the conclusion of part one. So I guess I better jump straight into part 2 so I don't develop a case of blue clit Winking face

Ok so part 2 kicked off the morning after and for a second I had hope we were going to get a big dose of steamy sex but sadly a stupid miscommunication cut it off before it started. And our lovers part.

But only to be reunited at their parents rehearsal dinner with the discovery of their future step sibling relationship.

Needless to say there's a bit more to the story that I will leave you to discover on your own since it once again ended in a steamy sex scene and I need to read part 3 to see how it plays out.

The third instalment is the perfect example of why I love these serials. Loads of super steamy sex, a minimum amount of angst and drama and did I mention loads of steamy sex? Perfect. Now off to the fourth to see how the angst plays out and whether or not we get our hea.

Sadly the fourth instalment just didn't work for me at all. After another stupid misunderstanding followed by juvenile behaviour Emma and Jai are seperate for a large part only to reunite and end the story in a rush without really tying up any of the loose ends. I do need to stress that it wasn't necessarily a issue with the story but more that it just didn't work for my personal taste and I am very disappointed not to get what I was hoping for from this series.

Step F*@k by Scarlett Ward is the first book in her new serial, Step F*@k.

The basic premise of the story is this...
Megan and Emma are best friends. Emma has been single for six months after her long-time boyfriend dumped her AFTER he was found to have been cheating on her constantly. Megan thinks enough time has passed and that Emma should get back on the horse (figuratively speaking of course, this is NOT THAT type of book!).

Megan has already created Emma's profile on an online dating site and after a glass or more of wine convinces Emma to go on a date. They set up the date, go to the hotel where they are meeting the guy, and I say they because Megan is not only moral support but also personal security until Emma deems her as not-needed. Date goes well, guy is hot, British, and funny.

Megan leaves, more alcohol is consumed and Emma has a fantastic and sex-filled nite with Jai. The next morning, well, I can't read the book for you...things get squirrely and Emma leaves in a huff.

But WAIT - it's titled STEP F*@k, when does that come into play? Well, as stated in the blurb, their parents are getting married - to each other - and Jai is in town for said wedding. Let's just say the pre-wedding festivities are fraught with drama and surprise occurrences ;-)

Emma broke up with her boyfriend Tom 6 months ago, he had been cheating on her, but for some reason, she still missed him and sometimes even wanted him back. Her friend and roommate Megan, thinks she needs to get out and get on with her life, so she signs her up on a dating site. Within minutes, she has been contacted by Sexystranger and he wants to meet.

Jai is only in town for a few days and he’s bored. A quick sign on to the singles site and he’s chatting with Beautifuldreamer. She sure is beautiful and a bit funny. Why not meet her and have a fun night? And oh what a night it is!!

This book is H-O-T!! The sexy parts happen towards the end, but boy oh boy so worth waiting for. It’s a short read, but promises so much more to come. I can’t wait to see where Jai and Emma go from here. (shivers with excitement) I give this book 4.5 stars with 3 hands down the pants.

Emma is a college student studying architecture. She has a fun loving roommate, Megan. Emma hasn't had a man in a while and Megan signs her up for an online dating service. That how she meets Jia. One night stand is not something Emma usually does. For Jia relationships are not his things. His visiting LA from London and looking for a hookup.

Emma is great, she says what's on her mind and sometimes it really funny. Jia is very sexy and a little cocky. They have a fun filled night that is super steamy.

This is the first part of four. The ending was not a huge cliffhanger but instead it kind of just ended and I was trying to continue to turn the page. The ending was a little disappointing. At this point Emma and Jia have not realized that they are going to be come step siblings.

Step f#@k is a four part serial and this is book #1 in the series, I have been gifted ARCs of all four parts of this series to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

Holy hotness this book is HAWT!!!!

Its super short like a handful of chapters but it totally sets the scene perfectly.

I actually really liked both Emma and Jai and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out.

This instalment is really short so it’s literally meet cute and then incredibly hot sex!!!

Jai is a bit alpha and god that totally works for me. He’s a dirty talker and I hope that carries on through the rest of the series.

I can’t wait to find out how this plays out so I’m straight into book 2 (review coming soon).

Step F#@k book one gets 4 stars from me.

This is actually a series of 4 short novellas. I'm not sure why it was done that way but whatever lol - After reading book 1 you will be begging for book 2. (I read this as a series, one book after the other)

Book 1 = 5/5 ..... Leaves you with one heck of a cliffhanger
Book 2 = 4/5
Book 3 = 4/5
Book 4 = 4/5
The writing style is simple, direct and not overly fancy with big words and crappy comparisons. It's smooth and easy to read. Leaves you feeling like you float through the story.

"Hi mom, congratulations on your wedding day, my date is a sociopath I met online."

Witty, sarcastic and funny

This is first part of four.... But don't let the size put you off because it's used well and hits the point straight on....

Emma needs to get back in the game and with the help of her friend Megan and the trusty Internet ..... SexyStranger is found and Emma's first one night stand is arranged....

This is short but hot.... It leaves you wanting more and more ..... As they F*#k like they will never met again.....

I am off to jump right in to part two as it all comes exploding out ..... I can't wait to continue on with this story ...

Step F*@K is a fast paced, sexy, humor filled start to a forbidden love affair! Emma brings the hilarity while Jai brings the sensuality. The characters are very likable even Emma's best friend, Megan! The storyline attention grabbing and the writing flowed easily. "Sorry. That was the last time I'll make any sibling references, okay? I mean, really, the whole thing's pretty funny, if you ask me, but if the only thing that is keeping us apart if the fact that our parents got married, well...we just don't ever have to think of each other as brother and sister, okay? Step brother and sister, really. And that's nothing but a label. The thing is, Emma, I can't stop thinking about you. I've missed you."

StepF*@k by Scarlett Ward is a four part series about our naughtiest new guilty pleasure, the step sibling romance. I have to say, I enjoyed StepF*@k for several reasons. The obvious, Jai Carter is hot and I do have a thing for British boys. But it's not just that. Of course there's the super hot sex that Emma and Jai share, but there's more between them. It's just a little different than your average step sibling book. One click, you'll get it.

Emma Oliver is having a complete guy dry spell. She's definitely a little naive and inexperienced. After being dumped by her boyfriend six months her favorite date has become her BOB.

Anyway, Emma's best friend Megan signs her up for an online dating sight. You know, one of those swipe right, swipe left deals. So with encouragement from Megan and against her better judgement, Emma decides SexyStranger258 will be the one night stand Megan insists she needs to get her out of her dating slump.

SexyStranger happens to be Jai Carter and yes he is absolutely sexy. Dark hair with blueish green eyes and a totally hot body. The best part about Jai is that yummy British accent. I don't know about you, but the accent totally amps up his sexiness factor for me like a million points.

Jai is in LA for the wedding of his father Zack Carter. Jai and his dad have never had a close relationship. Zack left Jai's mom ages ago and is just now realizing how important family is. Jai is there for the wedding and a two week "family" vacation after the wedding. Basically while in LA Jai's been using the dating sight to hook up. The girls in LA are plastic and fake and according to Jai good for only one thing. That is until he meets Emma. He can already tell she's different because her dating picture is natural and he loves the little freckles on her nose. Then of course there's what he hears outside his room before he meets her. She's completely trying to bail and of course Megan is trying to talk her out of it.

Everyone decides to meet in the bar for a drink and before long, Emma doesn't need Megan for protection anymore. The attraction Emma and Jai share is immediate and strong. Emma definitely is nothing like the fake Barbie's Jai's been meeting and Jai is just well beautiful. Let the alcohol flow and the two wind up in Jai's room. In bed, they can't get enough of each other. And even though it's their first time together the way they make each other feel is phenomenal. Any inhibitions Emma may have had are gone out the window when she's with Jai.

When they wake up the next morning, Jai has gone out to get breakfast. When he comes back you can tell he wants more and even though she'd never admit it so does Emma. That is until she sees a wedding ring in Jai's stuff and leaves totally freaked out about sleeping with a married man.

So remember that wedding and family vacation Jai is in the US for? Well guess who Jai's dad is marrying?? Ding, Ding, Ding...if you guessed Emma's mom you win the prize. So now, she has not only had wild sex with her future step brother, but she also thinks he's married.

Their meeting is fantastic. Jai is like yes she's here. Emma is like I slept with my step brother and he's married, how much worse can it get?

It's doesn't get worse. It gets better. Jai isn't married and convinces Emma that they can continue their amazing physical relationship until they're officially step brother and sister. Well actually I think that's Emma's idea. Jai is really into Emma and I don't think he cares about labels.

Every time Jai and Emma are together it's ridiculously hot. Jai is just so sexy and Emma is just so very receptive to him. I'm sure any female would be receptive to Jai. He is just that yummy.

The time comes when their parents tie the knot and Emma is like ok we're done. Even thought Jai doesn't seem to care, Emma's got a lot of issues with what people would think of them together. Unfortunately, it's this part when Jai realizes, holy hell, he's falling in love with Emma and she's ready to walk away.

Then there's Jai's childhood friend who Emma catches Jai undressing and putting in his bed when she comes back to tell Jai she loves him. Yea book four is kind of a disaster. Of course I'm not going to tell you why she's undressed in Jai's bed. I'm also not going to tell you anymore than I already have. StepF*@k is a definite quick, naughty read. Perfect for beach or poolside I would say. Well you might need to grab a hold of a Jai look alike and find a private area for the naughtier parts (wink, wink).

Anyway, if you're in the mood for a step sibling story, one click and read StepF*@k. Jai is sexy and naughty and that accent is just yummy. Use your imagination, you'll be able to hear it in your brain.

Four lip smacks for StepF*@k a perfect summer read.

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

---Full Review for all 4 books---

This book was ok. I didn’t have trouble finishing, but I didn’t feel like I would have missed anything if I’d never read it. It was pretty typical and expected, nothing new in the taboo/step sibling scenario. Although, I give kudos for the steamy scenes, my temperature was definitely elevated!

***Very light spoilers from here on***

I liked Jai a lot, especially toward the end when he recognized the potential for more in their relationship and didn’t fight it. His dirty talk was hot as hell. He had the sexy, alpha thing going for him, which is always a plus in my book. However, he fell a little flat. I wanted more personality from him. He frustrated me when he kept telling Emma he didn’t care about the step thing, instead of specifically pointing out that they aren’t related other than emphasizing the “step” part of their relationship. When he doesn’t directly call her out on the incest comment (he glazes over it at one point with a comment about their kids) I rolled my eyes and thought, maybe this could all be cleared up if he would actually respond to her precise complaints, rather than to just continually say he doesn’t care.
Emma actually went downhill for me. I liked her less and less. Her attitude when she found out they were going to be step siblings was completely ludicrous. I could see being apprehensive over what people would think, but the author doesn’t even bring that into the equation until the very end. It comes out of nowhere as the explanation for her actions, but doesn’t have anything to do with her comments up until then. She spends the majority of the book saying that being together is incest, immoral, and wrong. If that were the case, it would be illegal. Give me a break. Incest? They aren’t actually related. Duh. And, why exactly is it immoral and wrong? I wanted to smack her and tell her to grow up. Her tendency to jump to conclusions and not ask for an explanation was ridiculous. Again, another indication of her low maturity level (very low). I kept thinking she was in the wrong book, she should be in a YA, high school setting.
I really hate when a guy claims to love a woman and then goes out and sleeps with another the next day to “get over her.” Not to mention that we are supposed to believe that he kept looking for her (sort of), desperate to find her, but trying to get over her with sleeping with other women at the same time…? How does that make sense? It took all of the romantic out of his declaration.
Emma isn’t any better, once she leaves. Having sex with someone else doesn’t seem like a solution to getting over someone else, it’s just lie you tell yourself, that you’ve moved on.
The secondary characters were no surprise, particularly the out-going, slightly slutty, roommate, they were just very typical.
I don’t usually harp on books about the state of editing, everybody misses things here and there (I’m sure there are plenty of issues with editing in this review. Lol). I don’t care about commas, extra quotations, blah, blah, blah, but there were missing words all over the place, it was completely distracting.
I give it two stars because it had potential, there were so many times when I felt like the author was on to something and then it didn’t go anywhere. It certainly wasn’t a DNF, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Review of parts 1 to 4 - eARCs provided as part of blog tour for an honest review.

Step romances must be the current thing as I’ve seen a few around. The forbidden love concept has some intense potential, and that’s the case in this book. This is also Scarlett Ward’s debut and a fabulous beginning, I must say. Broken into a serial type series, Step F*@k was a quick read that left me wanting to know what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed parts one, three and four, the second was a little less intense and slightly predictable, but the overall story was great.

Emma is studying to become an architect, but her real passion is painting. Following in her father’s footsteps was more important to her and painting has been all but forgotten. Emma’s mother is marrying some former Hollywood start and seems to be a bit of a bridezilla.

It’s been six months, three weeks and five days since Emma broke up Tom (not that she’s counting) and she’s still hurt by his betrayal. But her roommate and best friend, Megan decides to take matters into her own hands and signs Emma up on a dating site. Emma’s screen name is “beautifuldreamer” and almost immediately somebody wants to chat with her. “Sexystranger258” seems nice and his photos are hot, Emma begins chatting and flirting and then agrees to meet him.

With some liquid courage and Megan by her side, Emma meets up with sexystranger258.

Jai doesn’t even want to be in L.A., once the wedding is done and dusted, he’s heading back to London. He’s slightly jaded (LOL) about relationships since his parents divorce, and has declared to never get married. He’s a little sceptical of his father marrying again, especially when he hasn’t known his bride-to-be for very long.

He’s meeting a woman in the bar, needs to release some pent-up frustration and what better way than to meet a real, beautiful American woman. He is pleasantly surprised by this one, she is beautiful and fun, but he can tell she is more the girlfriend type than just a hook-up.

Emma is mesmerised by this man’s handsomeness, she eagerly agrees to go back to his room and it isn’t long before they’re frantic with each other.

The next night is the big “family” dinner, when the Brady bunch type deal happens. Emma and her sister Jessica get to meet their new step-brother. Emma is shocked to find her step-brother is none other than the handsome “sexystranger258”.

Jai thinks it’s hilarious, but with Emma horrified will they hook up again? They have two weeks of being around each other before the wedding, can they behave? Will the parents find out about their jaunt?

With both characters never having felt these intense and natural feelings that they were meant to be, follow as they make their decisions on yes or no and what happens after the wedding. There were some surprises along the way and a lot of fun. Emma and Jai was such enjoyable characters and everybody needs to pick up this short fab series for a well-written, intense and humorous romance.

Also hier der Klappentext zum Buch:

*Note* I read the four parts of the serial back-to-back so I'm going to write a joint review covering the four separate instalments (this is so that I won't spoil any of the reveals or what happens where).

As the introduction to the series part one works well by introducing Emma, her hilarious bestie Megan and the handsome stranger online date Jai. Emma is trying to move on from a bad breakup when her friend introduces her to online dating. She meets Jai who is supposed to be a short term, no strings romance, until he really isn't.

If the first part is the introduction, then the second part is what hooked me. I definitely felt like the series got better as it developed. After a few unwelcome discoveries and misunderstandings, Emma and Jai are in for a big surprise. They discover their parents are getting married and that they'll be step-siblings - cue lots of confusion and embarrassment.

The good thing about the serial is that although Scarlett Ward does raise more questions in the different instalments, she does answer some along the way which keep me interested. As you can probably tell from the title and blurb, this is an adult series with lots of sexy time!

With every new instalment we get to know more about Emma and Jai. There are some really funny moments and I found the third part the most entertaining. A lot of things go awry and Emma's torn between saying no to Jai, and being really invested in discovering more about his life. As a Brit I obviously wasn't drawn to Jai's accent like Emma was but I did appreciate some of his other attributes ;)

As a four part serial Step F#@k is short and sweet. It has enough action and drama (outside of the bedroom) to pack a punch. I laughed a lot, although I did find myself wanting to shake some sense into Emma as the story progressed.

I was really hopeful that Emma could move on from her trust issues and that her and Jai could find their own HEA! It is worth noting that there is a cliffy or two along the way.

I'm not usually a big fan of serials because I'm too impatient to wait for the next instalment but I did enjoy it here. I've read several serials where one book is simply spread into MANY parts to sell more copies/make more money but I didn't feel like this was the case here and I actually liked the serial element (admittedly I did read them all together).

Part one rating: 3.5
Overall series rating: 4 Stars in my Sky!

I received a copy of the books in exchange for an honest review!
