Y’ALL… this book had me hooked from the very first chapter. 😭💥 It was fast-paced, action-packed, emotional, and had me flying through the pages because I needed to know what was going to happen next.
Riggs is carrying around so much guilt while trying to protect the only family he has left, and Cress is haunted by a past she desperately wants to leave behind. When their paths collide again, things go from bad to SO MUCH WORSE in the best way possible. 🤌🏻🔥 The danger never lets up, the tension is chef’s kiss, and I loved watching all the pieces slowly fall into place.
Aubrey Taylor’s writing completely won me over. ✍️❤️ The pacing was incredible, and every chapter ended with me saying, “Okay… just one more.” (Spoiler: it was never just one more. 😂)
Now let’s talk about THAT ENDING. 😭💀 Aubrey… respectfully… HOW COULD YOU?? That cliffhanger was absolutely DIABOLICAL. I closed the book and just sat there staring into space because EXCUSE ME?? I need book two immediately. Like… yesterday. 🫠
Safe to say I’m officially a fan because I loved this book so much that I immediately ordered the entire Hornet’s Nest series. 🛒📦 I need more of Aubrey Taylor’s books in my life ASAP.

"there's something about riggs that makes me feel like i'm speeding down a busy highway in the wrong lane. like nothing before him or after him would ever fill that gap of adrenaline that he creates from scratch. i want it injected in my veins."
we all know how much i love aubrey taylor and her writing, but this book...this book will have you feeling like you're in a fast and furious movie, even if you've never seen them. i actually just started them recently, and having that knowledge made reading this so much better, so do with that what you will. violent skies is messy, fast-paced, and will leave you staring at the wall with so many questions by the time you're done, but the ride is so worth it.
i was expecting to be put through it (whatever /it/ is) because aubrey wrote this, but i wasn't expecting how intricate and layered everything was (she's a genius, though, so i definitely should have known). when you think you've figured something out, something else comes up that will have you on the edge of your seat and salivating for the next chapter. i binged this in one sitting and i'm so glad i did. it's the perfect bingeable length, but it will absolutely put you in a book hangover because it's that good. this is so different from what aubrey's written before, but she's done such a beautiful job of setting up a whole new family and group of characters that we will be following. despite this being different, the same theme of found family that we see in aubrey's other books is so evident in this one. found family is one of my favourite tropes because of aubrey and the way she writes it, so if it's one of your favourites too, violent skies will not disappoint you.
the side characters feel like main characters in all of aubrey's books, which i love so much, and i can't wait to see whose book is next. i fell in love with all of the monroe siblings, but i'm especially excited for murphy and birdie's books.
i also need a moment for the cover, because she is truly so stunning and one of my favourite aubrey covers to date. she belongs in the louvre.

When I found out Aubrey was writing a dark street racing series where everyone is morally gray, I was SAT. The Fast and Furious series was such a pivotal fixture in my life growing up and so to say I was excited that one of my fave authors was going to write a book giving F&F vibes, is an understatement. Every character is unhinged but in a such an endearing way. Violent Skies isn’t just a love story, it’s a story about survival, family, resilience, and really really fast cars 😜 you’ll be hooked from
The first chapter and it doesn’t feel like the action ever stops.
Cress and Riggs were always meant to be. Their road to being with each other was messy and hard, and so many outside forces keeping them apart. I love the cress finds her strength as the story progresses and that Riggs softens the hard walls he has around his heart. I also really enjoyed seeing flashbacks through the story and how those flashbacks were relevant to the present day storyline. I don’t want to say too much without giving away spoilers but just know that this story is far from over and the fact that Violent Skies ends on a cliffhanger?? DIABOLICAL but in the best way. Whatever you do just read it bc you will not be disappointed.
I cannot wait for book 2 and the exhilarating craziness that will continue in this series! Thank you Aubrey for an eARC of your book! 🩵

As a fast and furious fangirl I was in absolute heaven with this, this is fast and furious with absolute hot morally grey men. The Monroe’s are my ride or die. Every single character has their own personality. Riggs is the grumpy older brother, Rafe is the chaos monkey, Murphy is the smart can k*ll you through a screen brother, Birdie is the bad ass baby sister and Cress is the sunshine that lights up the rooms she enters. Obviously it isn’t an Aubrey book without a crazy plot twist and they get better each time. Already foaming at the mouth for book two.

Riggs & Cress
Phew. Holy shit.
First and foremost if you have never read Aubrey before just head to her back listings now because this will not be your first and only book by her you will devour. I should know. Whenever I get the opportunity to read for her it is a pleasure and an honor because pen to paper (or kindle in this instance) the beauty is in the breaking.
Riggs and Cress have history and it unfolds over the course of Violent Skies. We get flashbacks from our MCs and we also get some chapters with the other supporting characters which I loved because it rounded out the story. It wasn't solely focused on Riggs and Cress. It included everyone much like an ensemble cast or a found family in this instance.
Which each chapter the story of how Cress's husband perished unfolds and it towed on the line of Riggs being the one to sacrifice his feelings to keep her safe. This deeply emotional story shredded my heart into pieces near the end and that cliffhanger just showed how invested I was as a reader. I NEED BOOK 2 NOW, IMMEDIATELY.
Aubrey you couldn't have written a better villain. I salute you.

This book was such a ride, in the best way. The action in the beginning will hook you, and the way it's written throughout, especially with the racing scenes - I am waiting for the movie adaptation announcement. The grief Cress carries is palpable, and the mystery of who is after her is so gripping. It brings her back to the Monroe's - to Riggs, who is responsible for her husband's death, and his siblings Rafe, Murphy, and Birdie.
The story weaves between the past and the present, and both are haunted by Cress's deceased husband, Koa - all while hinting that there's so much more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to Cress and Rigg's past friendship. There's so many satisfying moments that slowly unfurl, and then - that ending!!! oh my god. I will never be over it. And so so many parts that had me kicking my feet, with the way that Riggs will do anything for Cress and his family (the folded heart reveal, I was absolutely swooning). The found family in this is so so good, the lengths they will all go for each other was amazing, and all the complex emotions and relationships in this will absolutely get you.
Violent Skies is such a perfect blend of action, suspense, and romance, and I had such an awesome time reading it. Absolutely in line for book 2, and I can't wait for more of the Monroe family! 💙

Violent Skies has all the early 2000s street racing and Fast & Furious vibes that I grew up loving. The combination of action, strong plot, and morally gray characters is exactly my style. Also, that cliffhanger was wild! Overall it's a very well written story, however, I found myself not emotionally invested in the characters.
Cress wakes up to home intruders in her house and barely escapes them. She drives to the only place she feels she can go to, Monroe Motors garage. Albeit, she hasn't spoken to any of them since her husbands death which happened 2 years prior. Together, they work to figure out who the attackers are and who is sending them anonymous text messages, thus, reverting back to the street racing life they once knew before Koa's death changed everything.
Riggs blames himself for Koa's death and carries a lot of guilt, he takes upon himself to ensure his family is protected no matter what. He's grumpy, but protective and honestly it's difficult not to love the guy. The way he always had a stick of gum ready for Cress and folded each foil into a heart was the utmost cutest thing ever, plus they each had a note. Yea, my heart was swooning for him.
Cress is kind and tough af, and she can DRIVE. The only complaint I have about her is that she was so clueless to the activities her husband was involved in, like homegirl had no knowledge he was a whole different person. I'll be damned if I'm not up my husbands business, but that's just me. Besides that, I liked how she was able to handle herself and didn't shy away from getting down to business.
I feel like the multiple POV's wasn't necessary and took away from Cress and Riggs. For me, had it only been their POV's it would have given me a deeper understanding of their relationship. I didn't necessarily care for the characters, with the exception of Riggs and Murphy. Maybe if the book was longer the multiple POV's would have worked for me.

I'll be damned if I'm not up my husbands business, but that's just me. Besides that, I liked how she was able to handle herself and didn't shy away from getting down to business.
I feel like the multiple POV's wasn't necessary and took away from Cress and Riggs. For me, had it only been their POV's it would have given me a deeper understanding of their relationship. I didn't necessarily care for the characters, with the exception of Riggs and Murphy. Maybe if the book was longer the multiple POV's would have worked for me.

I received an advance reader copy of this book. The opinions are my own.
This story hooked me in the first 2 chapters. I started the book, got through 26 pages, and then had to step away for several hours. I thought about those 2 chapters the entire time. I was eager to sit back down and see where it went.
Not only did the story hook me, but it kept me hooked. I wanted to see what happened next. I read this book in a day. It was fast paced and engaging throughout.
I was rooting for the main characters as they opened up to one another and truths came out. I hurt for their family as emotional wounds were reopened and picked at. My heart beat double time when the relationship finally found its peak and they were able to be real with each other. There was a lot of feeling in this book.
I was able to predict the antagonist in this story, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I wasn’t disappointed to be right. Only disappointed that the person turned out to be a bad guy, because that made me sad. 😢
There were some parts that were a little confusing, or details contradicted each other.
I would love more backstory on Birdie and their family growing up as a whole. Maybe we’ll get some of that as the series continues.
I do need to say that the writing is a little rough at times. Unpolished, if you will. This can probably be attributed to being self published. I include this information because I firmly believe a book can be a good read even if it isn’t expertly written, but some people need to know what they’re going into so they start in the right headspace and aren’t so caught up with the writing that they miss the story.

Okay what was in this book?? I was hooked!! It took me a few chapters to understand the family and friends dynamics, but once I understood, I couldn’t put it down!! This was my first street racing book and as a fan of the Fast and the Furious movies, I loved reading it.
Riggs Monroe! What a grumpy yet protective brother! He’s been in love with his friend Cress since they were younger, but his best friend Koa got the girl 😡
Cress Taito, ER nurse and now a widow! Strong personality but I felt like her personality was dampened by her husband Koa.. for example, she loved the adrenaline of driving the street cars previously as well. after Koa’s death she burnt bridges and her relationship with the Monroe’s, but has to ask for their help when she’s attacked in her home and told she owes them half a mil.
Riggs was blamed for Koa’s death but as the story progresses more secrets come out including the night of Koa’s death and events leading up to it. The Monroe’s are being attacked and it was easy to guess who the antagonist was, which made me even more upset about how things played out between Riggs and Cress

From the very first chapter, this book had me completely hooked. The pacing is fast, the stakes keep getting higher, and every chapter left me desperate to know what would happen next. I kept telling myself, "Just one more chapter," and before I knew it, I was flying through the book.
Riggs and Cress are wonderfully layered characters. Riggs carries the weight of guilt while doing everything he can to protect the people he loves, and Cress is determined to outrun a past that refuses to stay buried. Their reunion sparks a story filled with danger, emotional tension, and impossible choices, making it impossible to look away.
Aubrey Taylor does an incredible job balancing action, suspense, and heartfelt emotion. The chemistry between the characters felt natural, the found family elements added so much heart, and the constant twists kept me guessing until the very end.
And that ending... I genuinely wasn't prepared. The cliffhanger was absolutely brutal in the best possible way, and now I'm counting down the days until book two because I need answers immediately.

When someone writes the words "I don't believe in ghosts" it's almost an instant guarantee that I'll be hooked. But when that person is Aubrey Taylor, insert me foaming at the mouth.
Aubrey never fails to deliver a story that's everything I want and more and this book is no exception. She expertly blends Fast & Furious action with equal parts ghost story and an ominous weather forecast from hell (but also my dreams). Violent Skies is a heart stopping thrill ride that will leave you wanting the next book IMMEDIATELY and simultaneously staring at the wall saying WTF.
Watching Cress pick up the jagged pieces and rebuild her fractured relationships with not only Riggs but the entire Monroe family truly healed a piece of my soul. She and Riggs were made for each other but the impact Cress has on their other siblings is just as equally important and proves time and again why Aubrey is the queen of writing found family.
And as a girl who grew up in a mechanic household, this book has a visceral hold on my heart. Birdie said it best:
"I can feel him at the garage...l can see him in the corners of that rust bucket shop." Y'all. Go read this book ASAP. Like I'm absolutely obsessed. This book freaking ate. No comments no complaints. (Well I have one complaint and it's I need book two ASAP) I absolutely love Crew & Riggs. I love watching Crew be a survivor and strong but slowly learning new information and finally coming to terms to just live life. I love watching Riggs yearn for Crew, but accepting fate while being patient and waiting. I love seeing these two come together again even under bad circumstances and finally putting their past behind them an living and learning each other again. The twist and turns in this one was phenomenal.
5/5 Recommend this book. Y'all if you love fast and the furious and the dark nitty gritty side then you'll absolutely love this one. It's fast paced, got a great suspense subplot and has multiple povs, but does end on a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more. While I normally don't like multiple povs Aubrey absolutely did it justice, not one person is over shadow, you get the whole vibe of the story and it flows so smoothly.

I absolutely loved uncovering every secret along with Cress! Watching her reconnect with Riggs was so emotional and beautiful, and it ultimately leads up to one of my favorite love confessions.
After much practice with Catherine Cowles Novels I’ve learned a thing or two about figuring out the bad guy. Even with having my suspicions, that ending was JAW DROPPING! It seems like the danger is only getting started and I’m in this series for the long haul!

Violent Skies was a pleasant surprise. It had so many of my favorite tropes: found family, yearning, and the heartbreak of falling for the girl your best friend loved. 😭
Riggs and Cress - their feelings developed in a way that actually made sense despite the loss of someone closer in their lives. You could see them slowly breaking down each other's walls and the realization of what has always been "right in front of them" this whole time.
The found family was another huge win for me. Those relationships felt just as important as the romance, and I loved how fiercely everyone looked out for each other. Add in all the unexpected twists and turns, and I was hooked the whole time. This was my first street racing book and it did not disappoint.
But can we talk about THAT CLIFFHANGER?! 😳 And I'll never look at those little origami hearts made from gum wrappers the same way again. IYKYK.
Now excuse me while I immediately countdown to when the second book will be written. 😬

The Monroes felt like real people messy, loyal, protective, and willing to burn the world down for each other. Their relationships carried just as much weight as the romance.
Riggs and Cress took time to grow on me, but their connection felt natural. They’re both carrying grief and guilt, and watching those walls slowly come down made the emotional moments hit harder. The chemistry was there without overshadowing the bigger story.
The first half was a little slower than I expected, and I found myself wishing the plot moved faster. Once the action picked up, though, I couldn’t stop turning the pages. The racing scenes, the danger, and the constant twists kept me hooked, and every answer seemed to uncover an even bigger question.

There’s something so familiar and comforting about Aubrey’s storytelling. It’s warm, full of life and soul while still being able to keep you on your toes and wanting more in the best way. There’s something incredibly special about an author that can draw you in, no matter the story, no matter the genre; and Aubrey’s continuously does that. Every new story she writes welcomes you back home as if you never left.
Aubrey taking a chance and jumping into a new, darker, faster genre doesn’t change that, it’s the same sad girl bite and just as much passion for the story that we know and love. There’s SO much soul in this book guys, just enough edginess to keep you guessing, all the tension you could want, and regardless of how fast the story goes, Aubrey still makes sure we feel like we know all of the characters and that we’re in on the action right there with them.

This book ends in a major cliffhanger. I must admit that i was starting to expect the ending with all that was happening throughout the book but i wasn't expecting that it would end with so many unanswered questions. I really wish that the second book was out already so that I at least know that everyone is alright.
This book has a fast and furious vibe to it. It deals with races and illegal activities are going on. They are a found family fighting to make sure all of them are alright. They lose one member of their family and fight to keep what they had with unexpected twists and turns.
I enjoyed every page and can't wait to see what will happen next. Thank you for the opportunity.

“No guilt. No ghosts.” 🔥🔥🔥
This was quick, fast paced, lightly dark romance that gave me Fast & Furious vibes and the most diabolical cliff hanger!!
There are a few typos in the ARC that I read, but those may have been fixed for the final copies.
I also felt that there was a whole story that I was missing to help connect the dots. It’s almost like there should’ve been an entire book prior to this one. I love having multiple POVs, but there were some POVs from side characters that seemed unnecessary or didn’t gel with the book because as a reader I didn’t know them well enough.
It was still a fun read and I will be reading book two so I can find out wtf happens lol.

This book was so so good and such a fun read. It kept me hooked wanting to know what was going to happen next. After being attacked, Cress had nowhere to go but to Riggs, the one person she wants nothing to do with and that one moment throws them back into a dangerous lifestyle.
I loved all the action and suspense, and the racing scenes were some of my favorite parts. I also loved that we got glimpse of the past and different pov. Getting to see Riggs and Cress friends before everything changed made me love their story more. I also really enjoyed getting to know more of Riggs siblings through their pov.
Riggs was such a protector. His family means everything to him and he would go anything to keep them safe. I loved seeing him and Cress slowly find their way back to each other as they spent more time together. And all the little love notes he left for Cress, even when she didn’t know about them and the little moments they shared had my heart melting.
The ending left me needing book two right now!! I can’t wait to see what comes next and I’m SO excited for the rest of the series.

Thank you to Aubrey Taylor and her team for the ARC of Violent Skies. This is a book packed with action, a little romance, and a family that is made of people who choose each other through all the craziness. I enjoyed reading it, and I am ready for book 2 already. I am excited to see how the characters develop even more and I am super excited to know more about Birdie because she really made the book for me.

Okay, what was that? How did I not see that coming? I think I just shut my brain off and was expecting a softer romance and got a bit more of a mystery than I bargained for! But I am not mad at it at all! The characters, the flashbacks, the bada**ery? All a wonderful new cast of characters from this amazing author and I can't wait for more.

I love found family stories, and this book is all heart, with a lot of trouble mixed in. If you're into a story of second chances, danger, touch her and die, and of course a who done it, then give Violent Skies a try.
