The story begins with the launching of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-B and the mysterious disappearance of Captain James T. Kirk. Then, seventy-eight years later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D receives a distress call from a remote scientific observatory. Picard learns that a newly developed superweapon has been stolen by a desperate scientist with an insane plot. Facing the most difficult task of his career, Captain Picard must seek out the one person with the power to help him, a person long thought dead: Captain James T. Kirk.
Together, the two captains are tested as they've never been before. And both men are forced to make the greatest sacrifices of their careers to save countless millions from a madman with a plan for mass destruction.
Enjoyable reading of the movie. I think I need to find the movie and watch it again. Star Trek is so much fun. Only science fiction series that I like as much (or maybe even a bit more) are Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis
In this quick reads or junior novelization of the 1994 film we get a quick but still fulfilling retelling of an early draft of the script. This book begins with Captain Kirk now retired from starfleet making an orbital dive and thinking about why he retired from starfleet even though he is feeling his age. At the launching of the Enterprise-B he is has to make sure that the ship survives its encounter with an energy ribbon called the nexus. Eighty years later Captain Picard is promoting his tactical officer Worf to the rank of Lieutenant Commander when he receives a call from Earth about his brother and his nephew. After that the Enterprise-D gets a distress call from a solar observatory. From there the book follows the film up until Kirk and Picard come out of the nexus to stop a madman from destroying a star in order to get into the nexus but it still ends with Riker and Picard beaming up to the recuse ship. If you're looking for a fast read of one of the classic movies then pick this one up.
I got this book way back in elementary school I think but never actually read it since I've seen the movie several times. This version is for younger readers but a fun fast read none the less. This book actually has 115 pages, not the number listed in the info. I see that there is also a 300+ page version of the book from the movie. I bet that one would be a fine read also with much more information. I could tell that this book was written from the original script because the scene on Veridian Three where the "final battle" takes place was described as a forested area similar to the crash scene of the saucer section of the Enterprise D. In the movie though, the area of the planet that the "final battle" takes place was a desert, rock like landscape with little to no vegetation. In the movie, Picard crawls through a pile of rocks to get through around the force field, but the book had him going under a tree root. That's what makes reading the book and seeing the movie fun. Maybe I'll run across the longer, novel version of Generations one day.
Weirdly, this is really where my love of Star Trek began. I saw Generations in theaters having only been vaguely familiar with Star Trek. I loved the time travel elements and thought it was cool to see Kirk and Picard together, even though I didn't have a lot of experience with either.
This book is fun because it includes a little more with Captain Kirk, which has always been my favorite part of this story.
