Dear Reader,

In the early 1990s, I visited eastern Oregon for the first time. Inspired by its breathtaking scenery, I wrote Love Letters, a trilogy about a town called Rimrock—whose secrets come to light when the patriarch of its wealthiest family is murdered. Now here it is, collected in one volume, with a new cover, and a new title, Revenge!

Over the years, Jonah McKee acquired vast wealth, power, and an unsavory reputation. Though his fatal car crash is ruled accidental, his widow is convinced otherwise and begs her children to find the truth.

Eldest son Max knew his late father could be manipulative, but a letter found among Jonah’s possessions shows just how many lives were subject to his meddling. That list includes Max’s brother, Jenner—rodeo rider and rebel—who is confronted by a confession that changes his life. But even while the siblings reel from new revelations, stubborn, beautiful Casey McKee is kidnapped by an enemy who hates the family enough to destroy them, one by one…

If you’ve enjoyed my earlier novels like Unspoken, Running Scared, and Whispers, then I believe you’re going to love reading Revenge!

Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. She also is the co-author of One Last Breath, Last Girl Standing, and the Colony Series, written with her sister and bestselling author Nancy Bush, as well as the collaborative novels Sinister and Ominous, written with Nancy Bush and Rosalind Noonan. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.

Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.

With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.

I've been reading Lisa Jackson for years ....and she is one of my favourite romantic suspense authors....I have enjoyed most of her books...see my reviews of a lot of her novels..........and as I hadn't read The Love Letters Trilogy when they were first published in the 90's, decided to delve into yet another of her well-written stories.

Sadly, the "repackaged" 3 books into one, Revenge, was a bit of a letdown!!!

The trilogy is about the rich McKee family who live in and control the small town of Rimrock, Oregon and how the death of the totally horrible and disliked patriarch dies in an accident, which soon becomes apparent that he had been murdered. Each book tells the story of his three children and their connections in the town. Cowboys!!!! Cowboys!!! Cowboys!!!
 photo shirtless20sexy20cowboy_zps1avavbwy.jpg
Book A - Always - is the story of the eldest McKee son, Max and the local girl done good, who was driven out of town by his father seven years before and has now returned as the local doctor. Breaking up and getting back together......they were both likeable characters.....although I liked Skye more than Max. She had gumption and was very forgiving and kind. I thought the two made a good couple. The suspense wasn't that huge...more sex and a fire in the family ranch........

Book B - Baby - is Jenner, the youngest son and rebel, who is hurt in the ranch fire at the end of the previous book. He's feeling pretty miserable...and adding to his woes.......discovers that his one night stand a few years back has resulted in him having a son. I liked Beth Candrall but I totally hated Jenner...for f.............s sake, he couldn't remember having slept with Beth...in fact, he didn't even recognise her!!! Well, he kind of redeemed himself in the end...so I didn't exactly hate him...........

Their son Cody was pretty cute...and I loved Beth's mother.........she's the local town's Elizabeth Taylor...she marries the man/men each time she falls in love with them..........she believes in marriage and divorce.....and the McKee grandmother Mavis is a total hoot!!!

Book C - Cowboy - is Casey McKee, the sister, who tried to make it in Hollywood and has come back home for the funeral. She was my favourite McKee. So, she gets kidnapped and Jenner hires his friend, cowboy, Sloan Redhawk to find and save her. It's no huge surprise..........they fall in love....passion....love.....and happiness!!!

We finally get all the answers.......who killed Jonah McKee, who started the ranch fire, the kidnapping...........and all those attempted murders in the small local town...............hell, a lot happens around that small place.

I did enjoy the sense of small town living....the local bar, diner...and all the quirky people.
 photo download_zpsgk8kjzsl.jpg
This was not one of the best by this author.........to be honest, I did find reading this rather long "book" a bit monotonous after a while, but I did not give up.....and I was pleased that I reached the end of the McKee family HEA's.

I’ve just finished reading Revenge (Love Letters #1-3) by Lisa Jackson . The book is a re-issue of Love Letters published by Harlequin in January of 2000. Since I hadn’t read that book, I can’t say if any material has been added or deleted from the original work.

Revenge is a series of 3 stories following the McKee family of Rimrock Oregon. The patriarch, Jonah McKee was a domineering controlling chauvinist with an unsavory reputation. After Jonah’s death, his children discover how he had manipulated their lives since birth, and now each child comes to terms with the situations and their lives.

Overall I felt like the book would make a great Hallmark movie, the domineering patriarch, excessive family wealth, control of the town, land grabs, gossip, relationship challenges, blackmail, backstabbing and more. I had to remind myself that the story was written well over 16 years ago, and it reflects many of the issues and attitudes of those years. There is a touch of mystery in the story, but overall it a romantic drama fest. I also want to note that I would probably watch this if it were on Hallmark.

The writing is fine, the character building is fine, the interconnection between the three stories was also done well, but the stories are just mediocre, nothing special in my opinion. I feel that this book shows not only how times and attitudes have changed, but how the author has improved in her writing, now creating some outstanding stories that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. If this were my first Lisa Jackson book, I would not have her on my must read list.

I wish to thank Kensington Books, Zebra, for the advanced copy of the book, as well as Netgalley for providing the opportunity for an honest review. The book is lengthy, and the review copy was only provided in secure PDF format, which for me limited where I could read and when I could read it. The one suggestion I would make to the publisher is to provide a download format option, had a Kindle copy been available my reading enjoyment would have been significantly improved.

For me, this was a 2.50 star read, but I will increase it to 3 stars for the look-back factor into the attitudes of the late 1990’s.

ARC provided by the Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I love an authors later romantic-suspense books generally I love an authors early work too. Tami Hoag and Suzanne Brockmann are excellent examples of this. I love Lisa Jackson's later books and we shall see if that holds true for this trilogy from the 1990's.

What will an iron handed parent do to his children to insure they do what he feels is best for them? When Jonah dies his three children, Max, Jenner and Casey must confront the secrets that revel just what he has done. Now, each has to decide how to live with the past or correct it. In addition, even with Jonah dead, someone still is out to harm the McKee family.

A is for Always: 4 Stars Jonah drove the love of Max's life, Skye, out of town. She returns seven years later as the new town doctor. The attraction has never completely died and all the misunderstandings can't stand in it's way. There is also a question as to whether Jonah's death was an accident or murder. Lots of angst, strong passions and manipulations. Great stuff.

B is for Baby: 4 Stars Jenner is injured in a fire that appears to be arson. His grandmother is sure that the only way to help Jenner is to reunite him with the son he never knew he had. Beth and Cody have been summoned by Mavis and Beth fears that the McKee family will take her son away from her. A bigger fear is that Jenner still holds a piece of her heart. The murderer makes another attempt.

C is for Cowboy: 3 Stars Casey has been kidnapped and Max and Jenner believe that it is the sane people who have murdered Jonah and attempted to murder Hailey, Jenner, Beth and Cody. Jenner has a friend with remarkable skills and he writes Sloan and asks him to find Casey and the people responsible. When Sloan finds Casey he finds a part of his soul he has also lost. Sweet love story and a great ending to the mystery of who hates the McKees, but a little overboard on the angst.

I am not a fan of repackaged books.

If I have already read it, or its been on the market before and it is reintroduced like a brand new book, forget it.

Romantic suspense with heavy petting, breaking up, getting back together, I can honestly say I found it quite tedious to read. I did stay with it, but I was definitely glad when I finished them.

I love Lisa Jackson's books, but not this earlier edition

Thank you for my copy from Kensington Books via Net Galley

I grabbed this book at the airport thinking it was a Lisa Gardner book. Big mistake. Now I'm stuck with it for five-plus hours. A man dies, and a lot of heavy petting ensues. I had to slog through hundreds of pages of the same parting of lips, etc., intermingled with a lot of breaking up and getting back together, just to find out whodunnit. By the time I found out, I really didn't care anymore.

After the death of Jonah McKee his wife is convinced it was not an accident but that he was murdered. Now she has hired a private investigator to prove it. Max, his first son, Jenner, the second born and Casey their baby sister do not want to believe that is true. As each part of the book revolves around one of Jonah’s children and how he has manipulated their lives ending with Casey and a threat to her life. Not as much of a mystery as I would have liked but all in all a good read. I would like to thank the Publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

Kensington Books and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

An early trilogy of Lisa Jackson's originally called Love letters, Revenge is the collection repackaged under a new title. Max always knew that his father, Jonas Phineas McKee, was a manipulator, but the evidence he finds after his father's fatal car accident astonishes him. Jonas drove away the love of Max's life, Skye Donahue. Now she is back, taking over Doctor Fletcher's practice as the new doctor in town. Things get more complicated when his mother's feeling that his father was run off the road starts to make more sense. More secrets are revealed and no one in the family is left unscathed. It also seems that someone is out to get revenge on the McKee family, leaving everyone exposed to danger.

Each book in the trilogy deals with specific threats to different members of the McKee family. A is for Always is the story of Max and Skye, B is for Baby is the story of Jenner McKee, Beth, and Cody, and C is for Cowboy is the story of Casey McKee and Sloan. Each story is its own separate romance suspense novel, but a common thread connects them all. The death of their father and the subsequent attempts on the lives of some of the others is the overlying plot, bringing together the stories in a clear and concise manner. The romance aspect of this book overshadows what could be a good suspense novel, so I was a bit disappointed with the plot. It all comes together too easy and there are moments when believability must be thrown out the window. Although the collection is over 700 pages, it is a relatively quick read. Romance readers will enjoy this book, but those who like suspense novels might be disappointed.

Repitive, poorly edited & too much soft porn

Revenge is 3 distinct yet related romance novels made into one book. Each new section focuses on a love starved stubborn sibling with a murder mystery spanning all three. Each section rehashes the love and temper of the preceding sections as if they were separate books, making for redundant yet often erroneous text. Frequently the book contradicts itself stating one brother is undone by the one love in his life but in the next section he has no recollection of their one night stand. Characters love someone in one chapter but the next states they barely tolerate them, a few pages later. Numerous spelling and grammar errors, especially when periods follow every word like on one page, aggravate and disrupt the flow. The editing is so bad. Top that off with laughable cowboy sex that belongs in a 99 cent drugstore novel and I felt stupid and scummy after reading this. Only being bedridden with the flu, without anything else to read, kept me slogging through to the predictable end.

Three chapters in and I now understand why this book was 80% off; Lisa Jackson can't write, and apparently no one's been honest enough to tell her to find a different job. The inane dialogue made me want to hang myself. I actually had to check that: a) I hadn't mistakenly downloaded something from the YA genre; and b) Lisa Jackson wasn't also the author of "The Babysitters Club" (which I also never read because the title is grammatically incorrect, as it's missing an apostrophe).

I digress. The point is, Jackson is a shitty writer, and I have no idea why she's so popular (other than the fact that her books are written at a sixth-grade level). Frankly, every positive review is an indicator of emotional immaturity on the part of the reader (or at least an indicator that they received the book free in exchange for a review).

3.5 stars.
I have been a fan of Jackson's for years. Revenge is a repackaged edition of her Harlequin Love Letters books. I enjoyed the revisit to Jackson's earlier books. They are shorter in length and the suspense may not be as complex as her current mainstream suspense, but they still are an good way to fit some good romantic suspense into a few evenings. I liked the way the siblings joined together to find their father's killer as well as find their happily ever after. That's why Jackson's writing career is still going strong after decades.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've read and enjoyed Lisa Jackson for years, but found these three books repetitive.

The story starts in Rimrock, OR. The patriarch of the McKee family has died and the family is trying to move forward until Virginia McKee, the widow, decides her husband was murdered and hires a private investigator. You see that Jonah was a truly despicable man, not only interfering with his family, but also practicing business in a barely legal manner, injuring his friends and neighbors.

'A' is the first book and delves into the reigniting of the romance between Max, first born son, and Skye. You see how Jonah McKee interfered with the relationship between Max and Skye, telling lies about Skye and forcing Max into a
short-lived marriage to Colleen Wheeler.

'B' is the second book and deals with Jenner, the renegade son, and Beth and her son Cody. You see how Jonah interfered with Beth when she attempted to tell Jenner he was a father, causing her to move and raise her son by herself.

'C' is the final book and starts with the daughter Casey's abduction. Sloan Redhawk, a former rodeo friend of Jenner's and now a private detective, is hired to find Casey. He does and sparks fly. Ultimately it is found who was responsible for all the drama and arrests were made.

Throughout the three books is the common thread of murder and terrorizing of the McKee family, as well as love lost and refound. However, the storyline is the same throughout all three books and there is much duplication of background, sometimes verbatim. Basically it was like reading the same story three times.

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaways. I feel like a dick for taking so long to get around to reading it.

This is a pretty typical bad-boy-turns-good-because-of-a-woman kinda story. Each section focuses on one of the McKee siblings and their crisis as well as love life. The sex scenes tend to be a bit repetitive and it’s a lot of ‘guy has no idea how to speak or treat a woman because of his rough exterior and loveless childhood’ but hey, it appeals to that part in every woman (we all have it, don’t even try and lie to me that you don’t) where we want to change or ‘fix’ a hardass, to be the reason a semi-asshole guy changes into a caring Prince Charming. So it has an audience and those folks will enjoy it just fine. It held my attention, but being 700 pages, it was a daunting read and it was easy to get frustrated and feel like you were making zero progress lol. All in all, 3-3.5 stars.

It's actually 3 books and they are more like Harlequin Romances.

A is for Always - Skye has returned to town as a full fledged Doctor and without his Father in the way Max is free to court her, apparently the fact she can't have kids doesn't bother him at all. Too bad Jonah chases her out of town all those years ago.

B is for Baby - Jenner (who was injured in a barn fire) finds a reason to live when a woman he doesn't remember (Beth) returns to town with his son in tow.

C is for Cowboy - when Casey is kidnapped Jenner hires his friend Sloan to find her. But when Sloan rescues her from the cabin she is being held in, he finds more than he bargained for.

I usually like her stuff, but this time I feel like I got bamboozled. The dust jacket made it sound like a family in a small Eastern Oregon town being victimized by a revenge seeker. Good setting, interesting plot. As I started reading it I thought the writing didn’t seem like her style. It was adjective heavy with obvious info-dumping, and very cliche (lots of wavy auburn hair and arms akimbo). After some research I found that she had repurposed three Harlequin romances she had written early in her career under a pseudonym and tried to turn them into the kind of mystery/thriller she has written since she became well-known. PSYCH!
BTW—I couldn’t finish it.

Nothing like telling a 200 page story in 600 pages. To make matters worse, this was written up as a dark murder mystery. The title is "Revenge". It is all a lie. It is a love/romance story. Actually it's three love stories. Three very tiresome, overdone love stories. Think Nora Roberts trilogy without a break in between. Worse - think of waiting for the dark murder plot that never, ever happens. Chapter and chapters without any development on the murder. Revenge? By the end of the book I wasn't even sure the patriarch was actually murdered. It was more likely he just up and died of boredom.

This was Lisa Jackson's Love Letters series all in one book. Jonah McKee acquired lots of land, wealth, and power thru dubious means. He is not well-liked. So when he is run off the road by "someone", a murder case is opened. Then, the stable is burned down, leaving Jenner, his second son, with severe injuries. Then his newly-found girlfriend and his son (also newly discovered) are hit from behind with a truck. Lastly, Casey the youngest sibling is kidnapped. Jenner calls his friend Sloan to find her. So who is behind all this????

Jonah McKee only looks out for himself and his image. He buys and swindles to get what he wants in order to keep up his image including buying off anyone he perceives might damage his reputation but now he's dead.Did someone murder him? It seems someone is after his family too and there are plenty of suspects. The book follows his children Max, Jenner, and Casey in their pursuit to find out the truth while finally getting to live their own lives without being under the influence of Jonah's intervening ways.

Three stories about siblings - Max McKee and his brother Jenner and sister Casey. Their nasty father Jonah has been murdered. Each has their own story - the boys had women dad chased off unbeknownst to them. After his death, the truth comes out and the women return.

This was one of the most poorly edited books ever. The story line between the 3 stories is inconsistent and even contradictory. Drove me nuts although the plot line was interesting!

Long but worth it!

Three women who thought they would never fall in love and find happiness! Two that fell in love too young and then forced to give it up due to a father's interference. The third not knowing where her life would take her. It was like reading three books in one. I always like a happy ending!

I used an audio cd format of "Revenge" and plugged it in every time I got into my car. I liked the unique way that the book was laid out. There are three full stories about the same family. Each story is told from beginning to end before the next story starts. Many of the characters appear in all three stories so they familiar and you feel like you know them which helps carry the story.

This was a pretty good read about a wealthy family in Oregon, coping with the death of their father and all of the secrets that he kept. The family tries to move on from his death only to determine that he was actually murdered. As the list of suspects grow the family learns that pretty much everyone in town has a grudge with the family patriarch.

Enjoyable reading

Not initially knowing this was a reissue of a series of three books to one...the length was intimidating. I'm glad I stuck with it as it was an unforgettable story of two brothers and their sister on a ranch in Oregon. Well worth the read.
