A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder meets Fargo in this fast-paced YA mystery about a teen detective gone missing and her best friend who must finish her investigation.

Seventeen-year-old Fenny Allen has been Sarah Vincenty's sidekick for as long as she can remember. Over the years, Sarah has built a reputation in their small town as an amateur detective and a vigilante who has dispensed her own form of justice.

Now Sarah is missing. The police have written her off as yet another teen runaway, but Fenny is convinced there’s foul play. And when she discovers a binder Sarah left behind, entitled In Case I Go Missing, Fenny realizes that Sarah disappeared while investigating her biggest case yet.

With Sarah gone, it's up to Fenny and her other best friend, Sam, to finish her investigation. As they piece together the clues, they find themselves up against a decades-old mystery that links to the town's dark history. But is this binder a guide to finding Sarah—or are Fenny and Sam already too late?

The more the pair uncover, the clearer it becomes that those involved will go to great lengths to keep their secrets. And when everyone has something to hide, there are more than a few reasons to want Fenny and Sam out of the picture. Permanently.

An immersive story with relatable, flawed characters and a cleverly woven mystery.

Wow! I had such an amazing time with this book. The plot, pacing, and twists were absolutely brilliant.

The world building is straightforward, and the writing is easy to follow. There were multiple suspects throughout the story, yet it never felt overwhelming. Not only is the story incredibly engaging, but it is also wonderfully atmospheric. I could genuinely feel Fenny's emotional distress throughout the book.

Fenny's best friend, Sarah, goes missing, and everyone assumes she has run away. But Fenny is not convinced. Determined to find answers, she begins searching for the truth alongside her best friend, Sam.

The list of suspects had me side eyeing everyone, and just when I thought I had everything figured out, the story proved me wrong. The mystery kept me guessing from start to finish, and I loved how the clues were revealed at just the right pace. Every new discovery pulled me deeper into the story.

Bear in mind that the characters are teenagers, so some of their decisions naturally lead to chaos and drama.

Overall, I was impressed with how the story unfolded. I was especially happy that I could not figure out the culprit, which is probably because I am not very good at solving mysteries myself. Lol.

This is not simply a mystery novel. It is also a story about friendship, loyalty, and the lengths people will go to for those they care about. If you enjoy atmospheric mysteries with compelling characters and plenty of surprises, this one is well worth picking up.

I listened to the audiobook more than I physically read it, and honestly, I was hooked. During my commute, I usually get distracted and often have to replay sections of a book. With this one, though, I was so locked in that I ended up increasing my listening speed from 1.5x to 2.5x.

I especially loved how the narrator used pacing and pauses to emphasize the emotions and tension in key moments. It added so much to the overall experience.

In general, this book was incredible. The audiobook was fantastic, and the narrator did an amazing job bringing the story to life. I highly recommend it!

In case I go missing is full of Lies, Generational secrets and a small town murder mystery with a side of big emotions. A strong hook of a premise accompanied with great writing throwing me into the plot, and guessing all the way, where is Sarah? The story unravels with intrigue, suspense, and teenage tension. The weaving in of memories of the characters and past backstory was seamless through the chapters. The characters feel real, like reading or watching a true crime story. As a duo, or trio, Fenny and Sam are solid, surrounded my messy characters with juicy at times, but dark secrets. I almost felt, that their relationship bordered a certain 'chemistry', which if there were to be a second book, that could be explored. but that could just be all in my head. The questions I had from the start were satisfying in their reveal/answers. the reveals were strong, and the twists were paid off well. It was not the most unique of plots or stories, but the cast of characters are distinct and I found myself pointing my finger to pretty much everyone. character dynamics and big questions surrounding the secrets, mystery has you turning those pages. ICIGM has a strong ending, filled to the brim of anxiety inducing action scenes, thanks for the writing to a well paced, 'how far would you go' ya mystery novel. For fans of Holly Jackson and Rory Power books. A fab debut!

A solid 3.5 ⭐️!

The title is what made me pick up this book, I was instantly intrigued.

The story follows three friends who grew up solving mysteries together, until one of them suddenly vanishes. Before disappearing, she leaves behind a game she created called In Case I Go Missing. What was meant to be a fun gift becomes the very tool the other two friends use to unravel the mystery of what happened to her.

When it comes to the writing, I really loved how distinct each character felt. You could genuinely sense their different personalities, which can’t be easy for an author to pull off. I found myself understanding and rooting for each of them in different ways.

What brought my rating down was the pacing. There were so many long descriptions… cookie boxes and other tiny details, that added very little to the plot. The first part of the book could easily have been condensed into two engaging chapters. It was a very slow burn, and I definitely found myself skimming a few paragraphs because they dragged on.

At the end of the day, though, the story leaves you with a beautiful reminder: if you truly consider someone your friend, someone who’s a part of you -don’t give up on them, especially when they’ve never given up on you.

Be a Fenny to your own Sarah. 🤍

This was such a good YA mystery! I was hooked from the beginning and just wanted to keep reading to find out what had happened. I love small-town settings, so this was right up my street. If you enjoy books with lots of intrigue, mystery and secrets, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up.

This was a great example of the teen thriller genre. A twisty turny plot with lots of red herrings and drama to keep the pace going and keep your interest level high. Will definitely be recommending to fans of Holly Jackson, Kathryn Foxfield and the like.
