The Breaking Point: Lessons for Life from a Scatterbrained Wife

Rate this book
Award-winning humor writer Renae Brumbaugh, AKA The Funny Coffee Girl, isn’t funny on purpose. Really, she’d prefer a much more organized, settled life. But since scattered is her spiritual gift, and since Jesus said “blessed are the forgetful,” (didn’t he say that?) she’s decided the best way to roll through life is on roller-skates. Complete with fuzzy blue pom-poms.
Renae’s side-splitting quest for wisdom and spiritual growth is nothing short of brilliant . . . or comes up short of brilliance, one or the other. Join Renae in finding hilarity in the humdrum, snickers in the stress, and joy in the journey.

More than a book of humorous stories, this inspirational humor book is a must-have for every Christian woman, and even for those who are curious about faith in Christ and Biblical wisdom. The Breaking Point will take you on a laughter-filled ride filled with "aha" moments of gentle wisdom and lightbulb clicks of understanding. And as a bonus, after reading this book, you will also know the proper way to prepare and cook asparagus.

Hilarious, Side-splitting , snorting, LOL book!!

What a hilarious, side-splitting, snorting, laughing out loud book!! Renae(she is so down to earth you feel like you know her personally)Brumbaugh, in The Breaking Point, seizes her arrows of humor and aims them at the reader's funny bone over such topics as "Deadly Weapon," "Heavenly Asparagus,""Going Coconuts,"Shamgar, as well as fear of heights, why one should be a peanut farmer,or why God plays the "God card..."

Each short, witty story is followed by a spiritual lesson, always seamlessly tied to the topic at hand. One of the lessons Renae shares:"I've gone looking in the wrong places for my peace,my happiness, my self-esteem...But the whole time,I had the keys to those things right in front of my nose. And His name is God." Another nugget, after describing a closet-cleaning venture:"My mind should be a palace,a place where beautiful thoughts and valuable memories are stored. It should not be a junkyard, filled with angry memories and unforgiveness."So many passages I want to quote... but then, you wouldn't need to read the book!

This is the best humorous book I've read that is also a devotional. It is just the right mixture of everyday anecdotes, humor, and clear spiritual application that will make you think hard. I'm pretty much kicking myself for possibly missing a chance to hear Renae speak a few years ago. I would give a lot to hear her now,as she talks about topics like a "gigantic, sparkly, beautifully wrapped bag of fertilizer!"

I found this book to be fun to read with great lessons to be learned from "Housecleaning, Food, Pets and Critters, Beauty College, Hemmed In" and many other cute and funny stories. A great devotional or just fast read stories. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to get a laugh plus learn a lesson in living.

The Breaking Point: Lessons for Life from a Scatterbrained Wife by Renae Brumbaugh

The book is made up of Themes, broken down into related events and all entries shared are from her life, and most have a lesson to be learned and all have a scripture relating to said event or situation.

Many fun topics are covered, that we can enjoy, even as single women such as THE SPICE GIRL-Lessons from Housecleaning.

"You see, God created me, and He thinks I'm great. He doesn't always like everything I do, but His love for me will never change...I am so valuable to Him, that He gave His life for me and promised never to leave or forsake me. He is always right there, and He's given me everything I need." pg. 8

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him... 2 Peter 1:3 NIV

Another fun one: TROUBLE WITH MARSHMALLOWS
"God's big on waiting, which I'm not always good at. But when I wait on God instead of giving in to that bag of fluff right in front of me, I always find a feast filled with blessings that are delicious, satisfying and sweeter than anything I could imagine." pg. 26

Taste and see that the Lord is good; Psalm 34:8 NIV
DEADLY WEAPON"Our words have the power to give life or to destroy lives....could never dream of handling a gun without using the proper safety precautions, many of us arm our words carelessly leaving a bleeding, broken path of victims in our wake." pg. 52
Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire...James 3:5, 6 NIV
There are chapters on the house, food, pets, being vain, parenting, marriage, the great outdoors, this and that, and of just being me. What a fun book that will have you laughing, crying and thinking how smart you were to pick it up. Pick it up today and add a little fun and learning to your day.

I was given this book by bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the laughs!

Have you ever read a book that was so good you just kept putting off the ending because you couldn’t bear with the separation of completing it? Like the last piece of chocolate cake that is so decadent you’d hide yourself in the closet to eat it alone, The Breaking Point is the kind of book you want to go on forever.

With hilarious antidotes, Ms. Brumbaugh tells about normal life as a mother, wife and writer. From catching giant spiders with mixing bowls to hair styles, flooding bathrooms to singing solos in the church pageant, her stories will have you rolling on the floor laughing. It is with such humor that she drives home God’s amazing love, His patience and ways. The book could easily be used as a devotional with each day being a scripture and short article.

I must share some of my favorite quotes with you:

“Actually, I woke up two weeks ago and knew it was time, but since procrastination is one of my spiritual gifts, I put it off until today, when I couldn’t find any more excuses.” (Loc 772)

“So many things about my life leave me feeling dizzy and out of control. I feel like I’m out of my league, like I’ll land splat on my face before it’s all said and done. Why do I forget that I don’t have to do it on my own? Why do I forget that God’s given me a lifeline? When life is more than I can handle, I’m exactly where He wants me to be. I have a stronghold. I can cling to the cross.” (Loc 943)

Do yourself a favor, read The Breaking Point today then share it with a friend or two. You won’t be sorry and you’ll have a badly needed laugh. I received this book from the Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion which I’ve provided here.

The Breaking Point:Lessons for Life from a Scatterbrained Wife*****
by Renae Brumbaugh e-book

The Breaking Point is a devotional—a very different type of devotional—that is filled with real life stories the author herself has experienced. She includes Scriptural verses that relate to each short story. Each chapter has a theme, such as: housecleaning, food, pets and critters, being vain, the stage, parenting, marriage, great outdoors, being me and this and that. I chuckled as I read her comments about her coffee pot breaking and needing that cup of coffee and how she made do without the coffee pot—“just like a pioneer woman”. Then there is the one about the mouse, oh, the one about singing...I could go on, but won't spoil it for you. Her stories kept me laughing along with her. With these short life stories, she gives the reader much to ponder. It makes me think of the verse in Proverbs 17:22a, “a cheerful heart is good medicine...” and The Breaking Point certainly gave me a cheerful heart.

What a wonderfully hilarious reminder that we all go through life’s simple and not-so simple pleasures and trials together! Renae’s writing is so enjoyable and true that you can’t help but giggle, smile, belly laugh and maybe shed a tear or two while immersing yourself in her tales of life’s happenings in form like no other. I could read this all day long! This is encouragement that we aren’t alone in this roller coaster ride. She tells us of her mistakes, fumblings, treasure finds, special people, and just plain life episodes. Flooded bathrooms, scary doorbell rings, being *that* woman, starting fires, snakes, coffee makers, coconuts and more are just the tip of the iceberg. Each little story/chapter ends with a wonderful Bible verse that correlates and reminds us God is in control of all.
I cannot get enough of this kind of uplifting and humbling laughter and daily encouragement! I highly recommend to any woman. You won’t regret it.

This a different type devotional you will not want to miss!!!
The author provides the reader with real life short stories that
happened to her. A spiritual lesson with a verse of Scripture
directly connected to her story follows each tale.
The book is comprised of chapters within themes. Examples of
the chapters deal with pets, marriage, parenting, food stories,
house tales, common phobias such as fear of heights, mainly
common everyday happenings that each person will be able to
relate.
This book had me laughing, crying and praying. It reminded me
that God guides us at all times and takes care of us. He loves us
no matter what we do or don’t do. We just need to stop, give
our lives over to Him then pay attention to His message. God
will carry us through all of lives phases if we let Him.
Thank you to book fun.org for this eBook. My opinion is my own.

This little book contains cute, humorous vignettes from the life of the author. Each one focuses on a specific situation she has been through, and teaches a faith-based lesson from it. There are a variety of categories Renae Brumbagh executes these lessons under: Animals, housecleaning, and food, to name a few. She takes the mundane and deftly transforms it into a delightful anecdote that will keep you smiling through every page. As the story winds down, the author will explain the Biblical lesson she has learned, and then adds corresponding Scripture to drive home her point.
I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy books containing humor, explains how specific Scripture can be applied to our lives, and is a quick read.

The Breaking Point by Renee Brumbaugh is a wonderful daily devotional like none I have ever read. Really! I have thoroughly enjoyed Renee's stories and insights into the Kingdom of God. The book is divided up into several themes. Renee starts each devotional with a story and then relates that story into what she is learning about God.
I loved how the stories were funny and engaging, but led you to the Lord. I have enjoyed laughing and being reflective with Renee through this devotional. I can highly recommend it. It is like sitting down with a friend who points you back to your Father.

Packed with short stories from everyday life, The Breaking Point by Renae Brumbaugh captivated me. Each incident told was descriptive and liberally sprinkled with humor, then ended with a related verse or two of scripture. I laughed until I cried, then I pondered. This book was not at all preachy, however. It simply related hilarious accounts which led to thought-provoking life lessons. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Renae takes everyday happenings and helps us learn a lesson in everything we do! There is also a scripture verse at the end of each chapter to help apply to our lives. This book is written in a down-to-earth, funny and easy-to-read style. It is a perfect book to use for devotions. I would highly recommend this book to everyone! This was a hilarious book. All the stories made me chuckle and there were a lot that I could so put myself into. My favorite was the flooded bathroom. The corresponding Bible verses at the end of every story made the verses come alive - like oh, I can relate to this.
