Being able to see more about these crazy characters from volume 2 was such a treat. Each chapter was a drop into someone else’s personal world and I think it really helped humanize some of these demons. Mammon was a very personal favorite for me. But Lilith!? I loved getting this very intimate view point from everyone. Plus if you loved volume 2, you will eat this up. Sorry Beez, I know that’s your thing.

This collection of short stories gives us more insight into various characters from Death Defiant Volumes 1 & 2. This book was full of descriptive imagery - I even had to use the dictionary feature on my kindle on several occasions!

Highlights:
Chapter 3 (Beelzebub’s Birthday FEASTivities) - As usual, Gluttony is my least favorite circle of Hell. 🤢

In Chapter 5 (No Heaven? No Problem), we learn more about Lilith and Lucifer’s descent from Heaven and the circumstances surrounding Amara’s birth. There are still so many unanswered questions.

Chapter 6 (Sweet Treaties) gives us a better understanding of Ember and how she feels like she doesn’t belong, which tugged at my heart. I love the partnership she forged with George and learning more about their role in the story.

Chapter 9 (Tristan’s Manic Tea) was unhinged chaos. To quote Levi, “What in the actual fuck is this?” 🤣

Chapters 10-12 provided a perfect transition into Volume 3. We discovered that Sher is keeping a secret and she receives an ominous visitor who calls her a name that is redacted. We revisited the suffering of the caged mystery angel (also name redacted) who we read about at the end of Volume 2. We observed tense conversations between angels in Heaven about what is happening with the mortals and the Horsemen.

Overall, this collection reignited my interest in the story during the time between book releases and made me look forward to Volume 3! Hoping all my questions will be answered and all will be explained!

If you haven’t read Death Defiant 1 & 2 by Charlotte then this book will confuse you.

This is a collection of short stories of the characters found in Death Defiant. I enjoyed these little stories. Some give you more background on some of the characters. It was nice to hear the stories that weren’t the main story. I liked finding out more about these characters.

The time line on some of them is a little wonky. Some of them take place before the main books and some after. Mostly, you’re able to tell just by reading.

I really hope there is another book in this series, I feel like there’s a big story to be told after the last short story!
