She came to Pine Ridge to lie low. He made that impossible.

Morgan Sullivan is a medicolegal death investigator on forced administrative leave — punished for refusing to close a case that didn't add up. She drives north to wait out the storm with the grandfather she barely knows, in a small Pennsylvania mountain town she's never visited.

She doesn't expect to like it there.

She definitely doesn't expect him.

Patrick Callaghan has his father's charm and a gift for seeing patterns where other people see noise. He's never had to wait for a woman to notice him. Until now.

What neither of them knows is that the cool stranger who dismissed him without a second glance is GraveDigger — his online investigative partner of two years. And the charming small-town PI she can't quite shake is DeepTrace — the person who understands how her mind works better than anyone she's ever met in person.

When a dead man turns up on Sullivan land under deeply suspicious circumstances, their investigations collide — and so do they. The deeper they dig, the more dangerous it gets, and the harder it becomes to pretend that what's building between them is anything less than inevitable.

She came to Pine Ridge to figure out her next move.

She didn't plan on him being it.

Look Deeper is a standalone romantic suspense novel and the first book in the Callaghan Next Generation series.

I love the Callaghans and Connellys and this start to second generation is absolutely fantastic! Patrick (Ian and Lexi's son) is trying to learn more about a death that was reported. Morgan is visiting her paternal grandfather as she has just been put on leave the the Medical Examiner in Philly. She too reads about the death that happened on the property next door to her grandfather's property. As she is a death investigator, it naturally spikes her need to investigate.
While Morgan briefly met Patrick at the diner, she accidentally bumping into him and spilling his coffee all over his shirt, these two along with Patrick's cousins and uncles learn more about the death and how its closely related to Morgan's leave.
As the two investigate, they both feel a magical pull towards each other. Will they fight it as she is only in town for a few weeks? Will they be able to determine the connection between the death and Morgan?
What absolutely fantastic book. I love seeing the Callaghans and Connellys again, especially the kids all grown up! This is an absolute must read!

This is book 1 in the Callaghan Next Generation series...and while you could start here-I recommend reading their parent's stories so you understand all of the connections!!

I really enjoyed how this book all came together! I have always loved the Callaghan's, so I was really hoping this book would be in the same vein as their books-and it absolutely is! Patrick remind me so much of his Dad, but at the same time he has a lot of his Mom in there as well. And I loved being able to see him as an adult, especially when he shows just how much he (and his cousins) have all grown and come together. I loved how smart that he is, and that he isn't afraid to show it. I loved the introduction of Morgan and her family! She is super smart and while it may make her seem unemotional, she just knows how to hide it well. They are honestly perfect for each other. I also really loved how Patrick didn't fight the fact that he found his Croie, because his parents never hid their stories or their love from them. Now...my only knockdown for this whole book. I really wanted to know more about Morgan's father and what happened to him. I felt like it was just kinda left hanging with no clear picture given. I understand her Grandfather not wanting to talk about it, but at the same time-she deserved to know about her father. And I would to know what is going to happen to the land! Otherwise, this was the perfect way to start this new series for me. I don't know who the next book will be about, but I know I can't wait to read it!

Perfect next generation!

I’m already a huge fan of next generation series so what could be better than the start of one of my favourite series next generation with Look Deeper the first of the Callaghan / Connelly children. Patrick Connelly, son of Lexi and Ian has the Callaghan looks, charm and intelligence, he runs his moving business and tends bar at the family pub but his heart lies with investigations and he aims to set up a private investigation company with his cousins and friends. Morgan Sullivan is a medicolegal death investigator, visiting her estranged grandfather in Pine Ridge when placed on enforced administrative leave. They literally collide at the coffee shop, Patrick is immediately intrigued by the reserved Morgan especially by her seeming indifference to him. The heart of the story is the slow burn romance and evolving relationship between the two fascinating characters, add a mysterious dead body and a twisting plot and the cup runs over. Observant and meticulous Megan is a thinker who excels at her job and won’t settle until she has all the answers to her questions, Patrick sees the patterns, puts them together and sees the whole picture. Patrick grew up surrounded by his large family secure in their love, Morgan never knew her father, has a strained relationship with her mother and is only now discovering her mysterious grandfather and their similarities. The suspicious body draws the pair closer as they each start investigating and find they aren’t quite the strangers they thought they were. Patrick and Morgan work, they mesh together with all their differences and similarities and their love story suits them so completely.
The cameos in the story are wonderful, re-visiting many old friends and new characters whose stories we are yet to learn - can’t wait. There is very little action but plenty of mystery and intrigue that produces a compelling and thoroughly enjoyable story. Totally recommend you read Look Deeper (and if you haven’t yet the previous Callaghan and Connelly books) and am now impatiently waiting for more next generation stories to come.

‘Look Deeper’ by Abbie Zanders is the first in the series ‘Callaghan Next Generation’ that follows the children of the Callaghans and the Connelly families from earlier books. This story is about Patrick Callaghan and Morgan Sullivan. Patrick, son of Ian and Lexi, owns a moving business and tends bar at his families pub; but with the deep family history of covert operations, he wants to start a private investigative firm. Morgan is a medicolegal death investigator on a forced leave of absence who is visiting her estranged grandfather. There is a lot of rich detail for the backstories on both and the initial chapters are a slow build/slow burn romance.
This story has a little of everything with a mysterious death, an online investigative group, soul mate (croie) romance and a huge extended family. Morgan and Patrick come from very different backgrounds and family circumstances, but they mesh well in the way the approach life, work and investigating. Morgan’s grandfather has ties to Patrick’s grandfather with hints about covert operations from the past. The story involves several of Patrick’s uncles and his cousins (likely candidates for future stories of the next generation). While the mysterious death they investigate moves the story line, the real heart of the story is the relationship that Morgan and Patrick develop.
There is a sweetness to the love story that is often found in Abbie Zander’s books and the joy of family is pervasive. I read the story in a day and finished with a smile on my face as the story ended.
I am a huge fan of Abbie Zanders’ books and this story left me wanting to read more about this next generation. I strongly recommend this book or really anything by this author. If you haven’t read the first generation stories (The Callaghan Brothers and the Connelly Cousins), I highly recommend them too. I got this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Years ago I either read or listened to the Callaghan brothers and Connelly cousins books and loved them all. Now the second generation is getting their stories . This one belongs to Patrick Callaghan, Ian’s son. Patrick is an intelligent twenty-six year old, who while owning a moving company, he and his cousins are working on starting a security and protection company.
Whom he never expected would turn his life upside down and likely would become is “croie”, his perfect soulmate, is Morgan Sullivan.
Morgan , a twenty-six year old medicolegal death investigator, has been forced to a leave of absence from her job in Philadelphia after she accidentally is assigned to a murder scene and makes observations that seem are not making those in the higher ups with an ulterior motive happy.
This motivates her to go to Pine Ridge. The place she recently discovered her grandfather lived and whose identity and existence had been kept from her by her mother.
The accidental meeting between Morgan and Patrick starts a chain of events that will not only get these two close but will also question the real reasons for Morgan’s dismissal, the identity of a group of individuals with brilliant minds who work together online to solve problems and who and why someone wants to eliminate Morgan.
While the story was engaging and the younger generation delightful and brilliant, what I enjoyed most were the cameo appearances of the original Callaghan clan. Especially as we get a chance to “see” how they are doing.
All in all , a wonderful start to this new series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own,.

Another Callaghan book knocked out of the park for Abbie Zander’s, and I’m not surprised. Abbie always had this magic in her writing that manages to draw me in and make it feel like I’m coming home to Pine Ridge ever. Damn. Time.
The murder mystery element really sang to my “who-done-it” loving heart. It kept me curious and guessing, but it never lost that sense of protection and community that I’ve come to love about Pine Ridge.

And the romance between Patrick and Morgan was like sparks. It felt natural and yet every little moment between them or layer that was revealed about them kept me “squealing and kicking my feet” into the very wee hours of the morning.

I also loved seeing cameos of characters from the originals that I know by heart and love so well. Getting to see them with their croies, still in love and continuing on the legacy was bitter-sweet and like seeing old friends again. Amazing as a stand-alone, but for those who have read the original Callaghan series, it’s a magical feeling being able to step back into that world.

One of my favorite quotes:
“ “Drive safe.”
“If I can drive the Roosevelt Boulevard and the Schuylkill, I think I can handle the back roads of Pine Ridge.”
“I don’t know,” he countered, that playful glint back in his eyes. “Our bears don’t care much about the rules of the road. And possums? Absolute hooligans.”

Overall: intriguing, heart-tugging (as croies always do), and full of that Pine Ridge/Callaghan magic.

We are back in Pine Ridge for the next generation of Callaghan’s. What an outstanding start to this series. Morgan is in Pine Ridge after being placed on a forced leave from her position with the Medical Examiner office. She is going to be with her Grandfather, Frank. Patrick Callaghan has been in Pine Ridge his entire life. He had family, friends and multiple cousins and enjoys his life. He lives with his male cousins renovating an old Victorian house while attempting to start an investigation and security firm with his cousins. Their first meet is spilled coffee at the cafe. Then an unexpected dead body turns up. What happens next is lots of intrigue, an online crime group that discovers more than the usual and then some as well as realizing the people in Pine Ridge feel more like home than her previous home. When things start happening and Patrick and Morgan discover they already knew each other through the online group can they together with the group and family connections solve the mystery surrounding them? You don’t want to miss this exciting book. Well written, original and great page turning moments. Loved the interaction between the cousins and the families. Loved the “croie” explanation and how it affects their understanding of relationships. Can’t wait to see what’s next. 5+ stars.

Look Deeper was an excellent start to the Next Generation series. It was wonderful being back in Pine Ridge and revisiting the Callaghan and Connelly clans and I am excited to learn more about all the kids as their stories are revealed. Seeing several of the original Callaghan clan sprinkled through the story was heartwarming and really connected the family element of the book and characters.

Patrick Callaghan and Morgan Sullivan were a great match in minds and attitudes; they complimented each other well. Their first meet was comical when her stuffy, by-the-book attitude and his charming, easy going, everyone usually loves me attitude clash. The suspense and mystery elements weaved through the pages from beginning to end and the who-done-it aspect was wonderfully done. Their romance felt natural with the evolution of the story and I loved the way Patrick’s cousins and family just accepted Morgan without any fanfare, bringing her into the fold. I also adored Morgan and her grandfather’s chats and growing relationship. Heart-strings all the way.

Overall, a wonderfully captivating book and I am excited for the coming stories in the series.

Patrick is the son of Lexi and Ian. Like all the Callaghan’s he has the intelligence, charm and oh yes those dark looks. Also like all the Callaghan’s hard work is in the blood, he is running his moving business and helping out in the family pub. Also he wants to start his own private investigation company with his cousins and friends.
Morgan finds her life up ended. Being forced on administrative leave as a medicolegal death investigator. She decided to see her estranged grandfather in Pine Ridge. I loved how Morgan keeps Patrick at bay, even if their first meeting is literally bumping into each other at the local coffee shop.
Now Patrick is your never give up Callaghan, Morgan and her quietness pulls him in. He is used of the ways of a large family, who step in and help, while she has struggled with her parents. Meeting her grandfather shows her where she comes from and belongs.
With a murder both of them find that they work well, seeing patterns, stubbornness to to get the answer and bouncing off each other.
This book has it all, great characters, drama, family, belonging, romance, chemistry and the Callaghan’s swoon. Ohh meeting old characters is like coming home.

The Callaghan's were the first series I read by this author so anytime I get a chance to visit the family in any way I'm a fan. I'm excited for the Callaghan next generation and all the characters we get to see all grown up! Morgan Sullivan runs into Patrick Callaghan at a coffee shop when she's on her way to visit her grandfather. When a dead body shows up at an abandoned campground it sparks the curiosity of Patrick, his cousins and Morgan as they have more questions than answers. They decide to team up and figure out what isn't being investigated or said about the mystery man at the campground. In a small world turn of events Morgan and Patrick had interacted online as GraveDigger and DeepTrace while investigating and solving other mysteries/cases. What Morgan couldn't expect was to fall in love with Patrick and how quickly she felt like she was "home" in a small town with people she just met. This book has mystery, suspense, HEA, found family and a new generation making their own way.

Family

Morgan finding herself in Pine Ridge meeting a grandfather she barely knew existed because of a forced LOA from the job she loves, oops spilt coffee on a man with the bluest eyes she'd ever seen, few words spoken while apologies made, something is there for both of them, but what, secret sleuthing with a private online group when a body is found on her family property, getting to know Patrick is something special she wasn't expecting to feel, he understands the Croie phenomenon but how to explain what, how, and you just know, going from little family to the Callaghan clan takes some care and trust in the one you love and faith that you are where you are supposed to be, absolutely riveting, page turning thrill, a beautiful emotional connection to the start of the next generation, seeing old friends, meeting a grandfather she barely knew but love's and respected, especially the grunts of approval, another phenomenal hit for you Abbie Zanders, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you for the privilege, Dana Zamora

Fantastic start to this new series. I felt like I had been away on vacation, returned home, and am now catching up on what is happening with the family. While the story mainly revolves around Patrick Callahan and Morgan Sullivan, we get introduced to Patrick's three roommates, have scenes with other Callahans and Connellys, and other new characters.

Morgan comes to Pine Ridge when she is punished for not closing a case and put on leave. However, as time progresses, she starts to appreciate the location and the quieter pace of life. Well, other than the dead body that shows up and that she can't help but investigate.

Patrick feels there's something between him and Morgan from the start but when he acknowledges their connection, he has to be patient until Morgan comes to the same realization. In the meantime, he's been helping to investigate the death in the forum he's a part of.

There's some surprises as the death is solved. I can't wait to learn who some more of the members of the Thread forum are as well as the cases the new security and investigator company will handle.

It’s so good to be back in Pine Ridge with the Callaghan’s. With this new generation and this being the first book in the new series it had a lot to live up to. And Abbie didn’t disappoint! You can read this as a standalone but adding in the OG Callaghan’s & Connelly’s makes the story just a little extra.

Patrick & Morgan are actually more alike than they care to admit - especially to themselves. Deep down Patrick knows Morgan is something special but not only doesn’t he believe it but he’s still on the fence about the whole “croie” thing. Doesn’t matter that he’s seen it happen time and time again he just isn’t sure. Morgan is a big city girl with a big city job & a grandpa she doesn’t know when she moves in with him when she’s put on leave from that big city job. There are so many different twists & turns in the mystery of this book that I was just as excited to solve the mystery as the love story!

It’s a great read and I can’t wait to see which one of the next generation is next.

I was so excited to read the first Callaghan Next Generation book and it does not disappoint! This book is about Patrick Callaghan, Ian and Lexi’s son and Morgan Sullivan, a crime scene medicolegal death investigator from Phillie on leave. As the two get to know each other better they realize they have more in common than they thought. Morgan is staying with her grandfather Frank Sullivan who is a bit of a recluse yet is friends with Jack and all the Callaghans. When a mysterious death occurs in Pine Ridge it sparks Morgan’s curiosity and starts a chain reaction of investigations by some of the newest Callaghans, one being Patrick and his cousin Riley.
As the collaborative effort to solve the murder occurs, so do the feelings between Patrick and Morgan with some advice from his family, young and old. The croies are back in Pine Ridge and it is so fun to witness the magic!
Enjoy this book and those yet to come!

Look Deeper was everything I hoped for and more. The Callaghan family’s next generation has arrived, and I already know this series is going to be something special.

This isn’t just Patrick and Morgan’s story—it’s about a family that has weathered every storm yet remains fiercely loyal, protective, honest, and always there for one another.

I loved watching Morgan discover that leaning on others doesn’t diminish her strength, while Patrick showed that vulnerability can be just as powerful as being the protector. The investigation keeps the story moving, but it’s the moments with the entire Callaghan family that truly makes it an incredible read. Every character feels like they have a story worth telling.

It’s emotional, funny, suspenseful, and full of twists that keep you turning the pages without giving too much away.

Thank you, Abbie, for bringing us back to the Callaghan’s I can’t wait to see where this next generation takes us!

Abbie Zanders has a diabolical mind! The plot twists and turns in her first Callaghan Next Generation story are like the mountain roads in northeastern Pennsylvania. This book, revolving around Patrick (Ian and Lexi's son), is an awesome start to the new series!

No stranger to hard work, Patrick owns a moving company, tends bar at Jake's Irish Pub like his dad before him, and is partnering with his Connelly cousin, Declan, to form their own security and investigations company. He's minding his own business when Morgan, just arrived in town to see her grandfather, walks into the coffee shop and bumps into him, dousing him with his own cup of coffee. It's intrigue at first sight!

Then the dead body turns up and things get really interesting. You don't have to have read the first Callaghan Brothers series to enjoy the first Next Gen book, but it makes the story context much deeper. I hope you love Abbie's stories as much as I do!

Patrick and Morgan

I've been so excited for the Next Generation to come about. I am a huge Callaghan fan. This book is no exception. Morgan Sullivan suddenly finds herself on administrative leave when a case she worked as a Medicolegal Death Investigator seemed "off". Her supervisor was not happy. She decided to go to Pine Ridge to spend time with her paternal grandpa. She and Patrick meet at a diner in town when she accidentally stumbled into him, spilling his coffee all over his shirt. Patrick and Morgan have a few things in common. They both love to solve puzzles and mysteries, though from different perspectives. The more time they spend together, the more certain Patrick becomes that she could be his "one". However, Morgan is not so sure. She has had a completely different upbringing than he has. Come along for the ride and see how, or if Patrick and Morgan can find their way to the HEA they deserve. Sorry, no spoilers

It seems as if I’ve been waiting for the Callaghan Next Generation series to be released for FOREVER!!!!!!! I first read one of Abbie Zanders’ books about twelve years ago. I fell in love with the Callaghan brothers back then, and now it’s time for the next generation to get their HEA’s. It feels like I’ve watched Patrick Callaghan grow up, I’m so happy that he has an opportunity to find love with Morgan Sullivan. I absolutely love Patrick and Morgan together; they complement each other very well. One is a tech genius, and the other is a forensic investigator. Together, they seem unstoppable. This book is filled with found family, suspense, and love. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. I highly encourage you to grab a copy of Look Deeper NOW!!! Congratulations, Abbie Zanders on the start of another wonderful series!!!

Look Deeper starts off fabulously. I was absolutely sucked in and so invested in both the investigation and the romance that brewed between Patrick and Morgan. Patrick's charm and his gentle way of wooing, while always being there for Morgan, are definitely swoon worthy. Morgan is strong and silent, but never cold. Their attraction felt real and genuine without any fanfare.

I adored the relationship between Morgan and her grandfather, it was deep, quiet, and heartfelt. The many, many characters & family never fail to entice and entertain, each adding something special to the story. The case pulls you in, and as it unfolds naturally, you get the satisfaction of discovering the why while looking forward to the new beginnings.

This romantic suspense is filled with a quiet emotional journey of finding home amidst the suspense.

Morgan never really knew her grandfather so going to his farm after being forced to take time off has her second guessing her choice. Stopping for coffee before going to meet Frank, she accidentally bumps into Patrick and spills his coffee on him. He is intrigued and she is more focused on dealing with what to do with her time off. Meeting her grandfather, Frank, turns out to be a good thing as he is a lot like her. Learning the police found a dead body on the land behind Frank's has her investigation instincts on alert. Also curious is Patrick who spots the notebook Morgan accidentally dropped. This leads them back together and the start of an alliance to find the truth as to who the man is and who murdered him. As they investigate secrets will be revealed, suspects are found a little close to home, and a new relationship begins. It's a romantic suspense at it's best.

An amazing beginning to the Callaghan Next Generation series! I am so intrigued to find out more about what happened in Pine Ridge through the years... there has to be more to the story regarding Morgan's grandfather Frank and I hope he continues to appear in the series! Patrick- so sweet, protective, and just- sigh- Ian and Lexi's son is a catch for Morgan. Morgan is an awesome woman herself with grit and determination. When these two bump into each other-literally- Patrick can feel something is brewing and is very patient as he works to get Morgan on the same croie page. I loved that they actually knew each other already as GraveDigger and DeepTrace through online investigations. I cannot wait to see what is in store with the new investigation company and all the Callaghans in the future!

I shouldn't be surprised by yet another amazing story coming from Abbie Zanders - and I'm not, her books just seem to get better and better, not sure how she does it every time, but this time is no different. Leaving Pine Ridge after the first set of books was sad, they became a part of your life and it was great getting to know each of the characters. I love being back here and not only seeing the new generation but bits of the old guard at the same time. May need to put together a family tree to keep everyone in order! Patrick and Morgan have great chemistry and a slow burn which I enjoyed. I did expect a bit more of a suspensful ending with a bit more drama surrounding the main characters but otherwise the story was well put together and a great read.

On forced leave from her job as a death investigator Morgan has come to Pine Ridge to spend time with her Grandad. She wasn’t expecting Patrick Callaghan. Accidentally spilling coffee over him was not her best move, but she certainly made an impression. Add in one dead body, an offer from Patrick she can’t refuse and she’ll be knee deep in an unofficial investigation with him. Patrick believes she’s his soul mate. Can he convince her this is true? Welcome to the new generation of Callaghan’s of Pine Ridge. Not only do we get treated with appearances by the older generation providing back up and support, the story is full of suspense, intrigue, mysteries and revelations making this a real pleasure to read.

I’ve been waiting for the next gen and it’s finally here!!! This story follows Patrick ( Ian and Lexi’s son) and Morgan. Of course Patrick’s day job is “normal” and he’s a hard worker but with a family history such as the Callaghans have his heart lies with investigations. Morgan is more reserved, a Medicolegal death investigator on forced admin leave, she’s visiting her grandfather in Pine Ridge and just happens to run into Patrick, the way croies always seem to do! We get everything in this book, romance, mystery, our favourite older characters as well as the cousins who will hopefully be part of this next gen! If you loved the Callaghans the first time around you will definitely love the next generation! I am definitely looking forward to more from this series!!

The first book in the Callaghan Next Generation series. Honestly, it's every bit as fantastic as the original Callaghan Series, if not more!

Patrick, Ian and Lexi's son, quite literally stumbles into Morgan at a coffee shop. Morgan, who is visiting her estranged grandfather Frank and on an unexpected break from her ME job, finds herself a bit lost.  Meanwhile, Patrick can't seem to get Morgan out of his mind. Their change encounters quickly turns into something way more electrifying than either expected.  Sparks fly, intrigue builds, and I was hooked from page one.

This story had me turning pages faster than my morning caffeine kicks in! Can't wait to dive into what's next, bring on more this captivating series!

Love seeing the next generation realize the found their croie

Morgan is in Pine Ridge visiting her grandfather while she is on forced leave of absence. When she and Patrick literally run into each other and he is now wearing his coffee, he realizes that she is different from all other women in the fact that she isn't flirting with him and takes the blame for spilling his coffee. When they both start investigating the same death, but not knowing it at first, and then fight their feelings as they investigate together it is fun to watch Patrick realize what his grandfather and dad and uncles were talking about when finding their croie. But then trying to convince her she is his one person but does she believe in only one true love?

The next generation is here! Morgan is on forced leave from her job from the medical examiner's office and decides to visit her grandfather in Pine Ridge. She meets Patrick when she literally bumps into him at a coffee shop. Patrick is intrigued and is determined to get to know her. He and his extended family are remodeling a house for them to live in and run their security business. When a dead body shows up in Pine Ridge, the family does what it does and investigates. Clara is tied to this dead body and Patrick is determined to protect his croie. Love seeing the older generation while meeting the next. I really enjoyed reading their journey to happiness!

Patrick and Morgan make a great start to the Next Generation series. Patrick and Morgan are a great team, along with many members of the Callaghan clan, as they unravel the mystery around the body found in Pine Ridge. If you've read the original Callaghan series, you know that Patrick is just like his dad, Ian. No one will get between him and Morgan, the one who was meant to be his. I loved the original series, and this first book in the new series proves that Abbie Zanders will make us fall in love with the Next Generation.
