About the author

It started with poetry. When Peter E. Fenton was having a difficult day, he would put pen to paper and dive into a world of imagination. None of these poems were published. They were kept in a book on a shelf for future reference. A way of looking back at a time and place in life.

But poems led to short stories...tales often told in letter form to amuse friends during their long summers away from home working jobs in theatre.

And then twenty-five years ago he met a composer and writer and they became life partners, and they got the ridiculous idea that perhaps writing musicals and plays would be fun. And so they did that. While his partner wrote on over twenty projects, Peter participated in four of those projects, and these plays were produced across the country, won awards and some were even published.

But life can't all be "play". There was also some work to be done, in this case a 42 year relationship with the Royal Ontario Museum, where Peter spent his time in palaeontology doing collection management and going on expedition in remote locations including the Canadian Rockies, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

When the time came to step away from the fossils at the museum, a new passion took hold ...the desire to write a longer narrative...a book... a gay romance. He wanted to write something that would draw on many years of living, loving and exploring the world.

And so with the kind support of his partner, he began writing his first novel, and a publisher expressed interest, and in the spring of 2022 The Woodcarver's Model was released and was a four time nominee in the Goodreads M/M Romance Readers’ Choice Awards.

That was followed by the release of Mann Hunt in the summer of 2023, which was also nominated in the Goodreads M/M Romance Readers’ Choice Awards. The book has been translated into German, Italian and Spanish. They even made an audio book of the novel.

The came Hoodoo House in the summer of 2024, which is the second part of the Declan Hunt Mysteries series and is now also available in Italian and Spanish. The book was nominated for a Goodreads M/M Romance Readers' Choice Award.

In the fall of 2024 his youth novella Not Not Normal published by Lorimer Publishing came out to critical acclaim (and another Goodreads M/M Romance Readers Choice Award nomination)

The third novel in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series entitled The Burnt was released in August of 2025. It came out in Italian and Spanish editions as well. It was recently nominated for a Goodreads M/M Romance Readers' Choice Award in the Mystery/Whodunnit category.

The final book in the series, entitled The Attercop, was released on August 4th of 2026.

I have been one of the lucky ones that have read this series since the start. I grew and grew into a fantastic written series. Peter has a wonderful writing skill that just flows from book to book. All Charlie and Declan want is to have a life together and for it to be a long road, not a short road. The stuff these two go through is just full of intrigue that made me turn each page to see what would happen next. You have the Attercop, which is an adversary who can portray different people to spin lies and deceit that he will do anything to get his prize, Declan. I found this series action pack with a lot of twists and turns that I loved. I hate that this series is at and end. When it is a good series and you don't want it to end, that tells you how much you love the story. I look forward to reading more by Peter E. Fenton.

Peter E. Fenton has definitely found his writing groove with his series of detective novels starring Charlie and Declan as this latest edition capably shows. Charlie and Declan are settling into their relationship well, but someone has it out for them and no one understands until the end. Lots of clever plotting and some great intertwined stories. I never guessed who it was and I read so many books that it’s hard to fool me. Unfortunately this is supposed to be the last of this terrific series although Fenton has left things open for more. We will have to wait and see what is next for this Canadian writer.

Atter boy!

I’ve been a fan of this series, and this author, since I discovered his first book Mann Hunt over a year ago. I loved the fresh take the author brought to the MM detective genre. Full of original characters, some lovely witty prose, and a series that leaned more heavily on the detective drama rather than the romance. An added plus was that a gay man had written it, and he brought a real authenticity to his gay male characterisations, something I find lacking in so much MM fiction flooding the market at the moment.

The first two books in this series were exceptional as far as I was concerned. They were funny, had some excellent characters, they moved along at a cracking pace and were over way too soon. But with the third, and now this fourth book, the author has chosen to take a slightly darker slant to his writing. These last two books have amped up the suspense and the author has layered up the mystery with a much more deft hand.

When trying to review a detective book it’s very hard to not reveal any of the plot and cause some unintentional spoilers. So I’d rather leave a description of the plot to what the author has written in the book blurb. What I can say is that in this book there is more of a focus on the two main characters Declan and Charlie, plus he’s given Mrs B a slightly more fleshed out role too. New side characters don’t seem to be as engaging as we’ve come to expect from previous books aside from a new four legged addition to Team Hunt. Now that was a lovely surprise. And much of the humour we got in books 1 and 2 seems to have taken a backseat with the author replacing it with a low lying sinister undertone brought about by the new villain in this story. I must say I did miss the humour, and felt its absence diminished some of the colour we’ve seen in the characters in previous books.

The author has announced that this is the end of the series, which I’m really sad to hear. That might explain why he rapidly wrapped up the main story arc that has weaved its web through the entire series, and also why he felt the need to “author-splain” so much of the bad guys motives towards the end. However he does seem to hint there may be more adventures for Charlie and Declan in the future, maybe in a new location, which I for one would love! This has been a great series and I do adore Peter Fenton’s writing, humour and wonderful characterisations. And if he did take the boys and Duck out for another adventure, or even brought Henry back to share some more morning coffee ruminations, I for one will be first in the queue to buy that book.

At their detective agency, a request for protection comes from a wealthy businessman for his daughter, Jules, and Charlie takes it on.

A man calling himself Attercop has a plan to get Declan alone, have his way with him, and then kill him. He disguises himself and shows up at Bar-None, at the bakery, and at the therapist’s office.

Soon, Declan’s therapist’s office is broken into and his file is all that’s taken. Then Angel gets beaten up and both Gwen’s bakery and their office are also broken into.

Jules gets Charlie to go out with her for a school event at a bar, then disappears, and his phone is missing too. Meanwhile, Declan is drugged and taken by the Attercop to a warehouse, and it turns out Jules is part of the whole thing.

It becomes clear to Charlie that finding Jules will lead him to Declan, and working with the police and Mrs. B, they figure out that Julie is the Attercop’s sister.

Declan also remembers him from The Greek, as Tyler, who works for Monarch. Julie captures Charlie, but his smartwatch tracks them and allows the police to stop Tyler and Julie.

It turns out their mother is the new head of Monarch, Dec and Charlie has gotten her husband removed from the organization previously. She escapes, but they get a lot of dirt on what the mob has been up to, and Jules and Tyler are going away for a long time.

Loved this series! It’s quirky and fun, the writing style is unique, and the characters make the books exciting and suspenseful.

The Attercop was yet another creepy, compelling, and exciting installment in The Declan Hunt Mysteries and I enjoyed it immensely!

Light on spice but chonky in vibes, Charlie and Declan do their best to get ahead of some disturbing break-ins, keep everyone Declan knows alive, love scrumptiously on each other, and (my fave) acclimate to their new addition who stole my heart from the jump. Eeeeeee I LOVED HIM🐕💨

🐶His name is Duck, and he's the bestest boy ever, and though I'm super sad the series is over, I'm 100% certain that he'll be amazing as a P.I.'s doggo🐾

As always, Fenton's narrative was very immersive, and I felt like zero time had passed from the minute I'd sat down to read to when I'd finished the book. I legit devoured this, but now that I've to say goodbye to Charlie and Declan I wish I'd savoured it ngl!

✨though I'm manifesting a "vacation murder mystery" spinoff or something, because Charlie in that epilogue made me shiver with the potential in his fateful words✨

This was awesome, and I loved this series, and I'm very much looking forward to whatever Peter E. Fenton releases next because his writing is simply BRILLIANT!

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I love this series and while I believe the story ends as a HFN as opposed to it being the last in the series.

As I started this book I just could not set it down. I was so hooked on the story while at the same time getting sadder and sadder the closer to the end that I got. This is one of those series that I just liked the characters so much and the interaction between all the characters it just held my interest. As I stated the one part I hated was there had to be The End, it came too soon.

Charlie and Declan are so good together even though they are such opposites. I loved how Charlie having received his private eye license, was being by the book until he found he wasn’t. I enjoyed that Charlie played such a big part in the story. I was glad to find Declan and his dad seemed on better terms and I always love Mrs. B.

Even though this gave more answers to the Monarch organization I feel it’s far from being dealt with. I also feel there is more to Mrs. B’s future. Or maybe Angel or Mickey. I’m hoping the author listens to the readers and continues further.

As the danger escalates with break-ins, assaults, and kidnappings, the investigation uncovers shocking connections between Jules, Attercop, and the criminal organization Monarch. The suspense builds steadily until an action-packed finale that ties everything together while setting up future conflicts. This was another fantastic installment in a series I've thoroughly enjoyed! The mystery kept me hooked from beginning to end, with plenty of twists that made it impossible to guess who was really behind everything. Charlie and Declan are such engaging characters, and their chemistry, along with the wonderful supporting cast, makes every book a pleasure to read. The writing style is quirky, fast-paced, and full of personality, making it easy to fly through the pages. It's exciting, clever, and packed with enough surprises to keep you turning the pages. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Charlie Watts and Declan Hunt have settled into an amazing relationship. Charlie knows he wants Declan forever but is not sure about Declan. He really has problems when competition for Declan enters the scene. It turns out the Attercop, who is good at disguises, also enjoys trying to take down their perfect relationship. As the two investigate a break in and a beating at a gay bar, everything starts to unravel.

Wow, this one built in intensity until you were frantically turning the pages to see what would happen next. Charlie and Declan’s relationship was starting to deepen when the Attercop entered the picture. He proved to be a formidable opponent with his penchant for disguise and the ability to keep himself hidden until the last moment. Declan and Charlie had backup though. Family, both blood and found, helped ensure they survived to resume their perfect relationship. Looking for a book what will cause your blood pressure to spike? Look no further, The Attercop is perfect for you. By the way, look up the definition of Attercop. It is the perfect title.

Eeep!! I love this series so much and really enjoyed this last instalment of The Declan Hunt Mysteries.

The villain in this series is super creepy and has me on the edge the whole time. In the midst of The Aftercop causing Declan & Charlie all kinds of problems we get to witness how far they have both come. Declan is continuing to work on himself and it’s beautiful watching him understand his feelings for Charlie. And Charlie! He has gained so much confidence and has really started to shine! I just love these two so much!

This series is perfect for fans of Detective/Mystery Romance! The ending of course is happy but I felt like it was open to possibilities. Hopefully the author eventually decides to give us more Declan & Charlie in the future.

I'm a little short on sleep because there was no way I was putting this book down until it was done. "The Attercop" was everything that a mystery should be. Intricate plotting, there are no red herring plot arcs. They are ALL clues. Okay, there were a few red herring characters (I was wrong both times). The danger was all edge o' seat, nail biting, stuff.
The villain wasn't wrong. being with Charlie has changed Declan. So much for the better. Bitter, pre-alcoholic, near broke, he was bound to get himself killed on a case. Now, so much better grounded. And happy. And Charlie, yeah he's still bright eyed and eager to prove himself. His character has had so much growth. Still brilliant, less insecure.
I grew up watching Magnum, the Rockford Files,and Remington Steel. Declan is cocky and rumpled. And sometimes, suavely dressed. Pretty sure Charlie does computer magic. And Mrs. B is the queen of the PI world, and she now has her own Knight Champion, Duck.
Book 5, anyone? Can't wait.

Attercop is a spider or an ill-natured, venomous person

Declan is working on his relationship with Charlie. He is falling in love with him and it feels good. Charlie is very content with his life. Being a private investigator fulfilled something in him.

The little mysteries began adding up into the bigger case. I liked the build up. I also liked that while Declan and Charlie were getting immersed in the case they still had time to fall deeper in love.

A couple of surprising revelations kept the story moving along at a fast pace and nicely rounded out the book. Of course the supporting characters were an important part of the story. Especially Mrs. B and Duck (who is probably the real hero of the story).

This has been an interesting series. Slow in parts and breakneck speed in others. I think the books need to be read in order see how the story of Declan and Charlie unfolds.

I didn't realize this was the last in this series, which is probably good or I would have been prematurely mourning the whole book.

This is the kind of book where you as the reader are privy to threats that the detectives aren't. And you really want to warn them, or get to the part where they figure it out. I thought this was really well done. There are also moments where they sense something is off, but suppress their instincts, which only adds to the suspense.

You get to see how Declan and Charlie's relationship has developed, without becoming too idealized. The other characters, like Gwen, Sam, Mrs. B, and Gary (the one good cop) make a strong ensemble and a new character, the lush lawyer, adds to this. I thought the stray dog, Duck, was a little deus ex machine, but when the enemy is a mysterious quasi legal entity, you need all the help you can get.

Looking forward to what Peter Fenton writes next!

Well, it seems only a very short time ago that I got the opportunity to read an advance copy of the first book in a brand new series by a new-to-me author featuring a fierce but flawed Canadian private detective whose world is turned on its head by his new sidekick. Fast forward and here we are at book four and the final in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series, and I’ve been thoroughly engaged and entertained all the way through.

The story opens with a glimpse into the Attercop’s psyche - a little bit dark and disturbing, but soon races into weaving together Declan and Charlie’s investigation with the narrative showing how much they’ve grown as individuals and as a couple over the course of the series; and even within their family units. I love this development. Then, of course, there are all the twists and turns in the plot to keep the reader guessing the Attercop’s identity. All in all this is a really well crafted mystery. 4.5*

A bittersweet moment, though? Absolutely, I’ve totally enjoyed this series so it’s sad to say goodbye to Declan and Charlie, but it seems the door could be ajar for more of these guys in the future and I, for one, am sitting here fingers crossed that they’re going to get seriously chatty and demand more of their adventures be written.

This is the latest installment in the series and the other books should be read first to best enjoy and understand this book. Someone, the Attercop, is fixated on Declan Hunt and having him for himself. Seemingly unrelated incidents turn out to be part of a devious plan to get Declan alone. This book had plenty of twists and turns and what I thought in the beginning was someone fixated on Declan romantically turns out it was revenge mainly against Charlie and at the behest of a shadowy organization. Characters from previous books are featured in this mystery. I really love how quick thinking and inventive Charlie was when hit counted, and how in the end, what they go thru brings Charlie and Declan even closer. I'm looking forwards to the next installment.

I adore Declan and Charlie, Charlie is so proud of gaining his Private Investigator’s License!
Wonderful to see that Declan and his dad are getting on much better, never forget Mr B as she is a gem!
The story opens on a wonderfully creepy note before unfolding into a web of mysteries, all centred around Declan. There are dangerous and violent encounters, the return of an old enemy, heartfelt reconciliations, lighter moments, a clever dog, a daring rescue, plenty of deception, and high-stakes suspense that kept me turning the pages.

Charlie and Declan's story is beautifully wrapped up, with the two of them happily in love and ready to embrace the next chapter of their lives together.

A fantastic conclusion to the Declan Hunt Mysteries series that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The mystery was tense and genuinely creepy, with plenty of twists as Charlie and Declan tried to stay one step ahead of a disturbing new adversary. I loved seeing how strong their relationship had become, even as everything around them threatened to pull them apart.

The real scene-stealer, though, was Duck. He completely stole my heart and was the perfect addition to the team.

This series has been such an enjoyable mix of mystery, suspense, and romance, and while I'm sad it's over, I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying ending. I'll definitely be picking up whatever this author writes next and having a re-read of this series!

This was another great book in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series. I read the others a bit ago, so I didn't remember everything right off the bat, and I wish I had read them before starting this since they were very much connected. Beyond that, though, the author did a good job of giving us enough information to remember what happened before so that it all made sense. I felt that the statement in the blurb "their perfect partnership begins to unravel" was a bit misleading. Yes there was a threat to their lives and relationship, but I found them to be stronger than ever in this book and working together really well. I was also really glad to see some relationship repair happening with Declan and his father. This was a good story all around.

The finale of the Declan Hunt Mysteries, and if the rest of the series is any guide, expect Declan and Charlie to be circling their most personal case yet while also circling each other’s hearts one last time, because apparently these two cannot solve a murder without also solving their relationship simultaneously. Iconic behavior honestly.

Four books deep and Fenton still knows how to keep a mystery genuinely twisty instead of just going through the motions for the sake of a series finale. If you’ve read Mann Hunt through The Burnt, you already know Charlie and Declan earned this ending, and if the reviews hold true to form, expect to be a little wrecked by the last page in the good way.

HECK YES BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE. This is Book four in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series. I have read every single one of these and love every single one of these. Peter Fenton I absolutely adore this series with the mystery, magical, elements to this book is just absolutely amazing. The characters are outstanding the world to which this book is surrounded is absolutely amazing. this was just I don't know there's not enough good things to say about this book or this series because I absolutely loved it more than anything I am super grateful that I got a advance reader's copy from GRR cause I loved it.

This was a good book. Declan and Charlie have to overcome many challenges to save the day. And each other. Their relationships with their families improve. They both grow emotionally and their personal growth affects their relationship. In a positive way. I strongly recommend reading the rest of the series before this one. A larger mystery hides in the background and each book reveals more of the puzzle. I would have liked to have more on page time with just Declan and Charlie. Not for more sex but for more of their everyday intimate moments. Even so, I enjoyed this book just as much as the others in the series and recommend it to readers who enjoy mystery and romance combined.

Challenging! Declan and Charlie, are faced with more weight on the challenge to their personal relationship that to their professional. The Attercop, wants Declan and is prepared for the fight. Charlie, is forced to get his priorities right and fight for their lives as a couple while trying to catch the bad guy. The suspense is so thorough that you will be reading your kindle with a tight knuckled grip only stopping when the cramps get too painful. Exciting story. Peter makes you fall in love with Declan and Charlie with each story. The mysteries are pretty exciting too. Great story, excellent pace, great supporting characters, nice cover art! Well done!

Attercop is the final book of the Declan Hunt Mysteries series. Although I really enjoyed this series, this book was good but not as great as some of the other stories. Charlie was a main focus and has become a force to be reckoned with. Declan provides more of a supporting character in this one although he still has to fight through some difficult situations. I enjoy how their relationships continue to mature. There is a bit of an "explanation" at the end to help tie up lose ends. But the best part is there is a hint that maybe more will come later.

Awww, Charlie and Declan have come such a long way together. Like proper adult coupling! Running a successful business, and still getting into trouble.

Someone is playing games with them, and it’s anybody's guess if they’ll figure it out. But in the process, they also seem to fully settle into their relationship and find peace in their relationships with family and friends. And the case had an interesting twist at the end.

It’s entirely satisfying, as by book four we are ‘slightly’ invested in Declan and Charlie’s relationship.

I enjoy this series and book four does a nice job continuing with the lives of Charlie and Declan who have settled into a great relationship. But suddenly it is challenged by the Aftercop (name of bad guy) who wants Declan for himself. A nice blend of suspense and romance, and a book you need to be comfortable with slow moving parts filled by lighting bolt speeds. I am okay with that but realize some might not be. I do think you need to read the books in order to get the full impact. Solid story, lovable main characters and supporting characters that add to the plot make this a must read.

I got another ARC from Peter and GRR and I cannot thank them enough!
It was fabulous.

The fear was present throughout.
The tension oozed off the pages.
The antagonist was clever and nearly succeeded with his evil plan.

Charlie and Declan's relationship grew stronger as did their skill set.
This book was everything I hoped for and then some.
Plus there was an HEA... thank goodness.

I recommend this book and the entire series.

I'm off to read 'The Woodcarver's Model.'

The Attercop is the final book in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series, and in my mind, it’s the best of the four.

What a fantastic conclusion. This book hooked me from start to finish, with a tense, genuinely creepy mystery packed with twists as Charlie and Declan tried to stay one step ahead of a disturbing new adversary.

But what surprised me most was how much this book changed my feelings about Declan and Charlie’s relationship. I’ve always had a hard time fully getting behind their romance, but not anymore. This story opened my heart to their relationship and, more importantly, to the depth of the bond they share.

And then there’s Duck. 🐶 He was the real scene-stealer and completely stole my heart. He was the perfect addition to the team and, honestly, I could have used even more Duck.

This series has been such an enjoyable mix of mystery, suspense, romance, and wonderfully memorable characters. While I’m sad to see it end, I couldn’t have asked for a more satisfying conclusion.

Although…that ending has definitely left me wishing the series would continue. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters. I’ve enjoyed every book in this series, and I’m genuinely going to miss them.

Declan's Dad is retiring which brings up issues the other cops had with him being gay. Then his therapist's office is broken into only bothering Declan's file. Someone hurts people Declan finds attractive. Someone wants Declan and is trying to get rid of the competition. This case could destroy Declan and Charlie's relationship. These guys are such a great couple and in this book the thought of them not together is wrenching. It's a great mystery detective book and I really enjoyed this series. I received a copy of this through GRR and this is my voluntary opinion.

This is book four of The Declan Hunt Mysteries. The entire series thus far has been about finding out exactly who is behind the Monarch organization. Attercop is an individual after Declan and the people he is close too. Charlie and Declan’s relationship grows stronger but is tested. The book is definitely a page turner with plenty of twists and turns. Even though this is the final book it feels like there will be a spinoff to this series. I truly hope so, because this author certainly knows how to capture the reader in his words.

This has been an amazing series and this book takes it out with what may be the best of the bunch. We've watched Charlie and Declan's relationship develop into something that seems rock solid but here, we get someone very cleverly plotting to drive them apart. This person clearly knows exactly how to stage things to cause the most damage to their relationship and I did a major binge read because I couldn't wait to find out who the villain was. A superb blend of romantic relationship, twisty suspense and crime.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought initially. In the beginning I thought it might be to angsty for me but it really wasn't. I should have known. I've read this whole series so far and I've always enjoyed the mystery and the partnership between Declan and Charlie. As usual, the mystery is intriguing and there were some twists and turns along the way. I was hooked until the end. I'm a big fan of mystery's and this one was a good read.
