For five years, Azalea Blaire has suffered beneath the sacred bond she refuses to let go of—one that is slowly killing her. Every time Atreyus Dominic draws the vitality he needs to survive, it scorches through their connection, stripping away her strength until the final breach stops her heart.
Across the country, Atreyus has spent those same five years mourning the woman he believes died at the hands of a darkness older than silence. To protect their eternity, he takes what he must to live long enough to ensure their bond endures beyond death.
Through that bond, he feels nothing.
Until the night she dies.
Her final plea shatters the silence between them—and everything he thought he knew.
She’s alive.
And he’s the one killing her.
But Azalea is no longer alone. Jarod, the Guardian who vowed to protect her, has become her shelter, her constant, and the one heart steady enough to hold hers together.
As the power inside Atreyus twists him closer to the very evil he was sworn to destroy, Azalea must choose: risk her life for the man she believes chose another, or let herself love the man who stayed and sever the sacred bond connecting her to Atreyus forever.
But the darkness that tore Azalea’s world apart has found her again.
And this time, he won’t stop until she’s his.

Katie Monohan… what the heck did you put in this book?! Because I was hooked from page one and there was absolutely no saving me after that.
I laughed.
I got emotional.
I may or may not have yelled at my Kindle more than once. Let’s be real. I absolutely did!!!
And by the end? I was sitting there wondering how rude it is to expect me to WAIT for the next book.
The answer?
VERY RUDE. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am kidding but also… MY BRAIN. MY HEART. MY SOULLLLLLLL … all hanging right on the edge waiting patiently for you 😁😁😁😁
Let’s talk characters…
✨ London. ✨ Azalea. ✨ Trey. ✨ Dylan.
I adore these people. Like… irrationally.
I’d happily read a thousand pages of them just existing, talking, arguing, flirting, eating dinner… I don’t even care. They own a little piece of my heart now.
And then…
There’s Dove.
Katie… respectfully…
I wanted to launch that girl into the freaking sun.
Actually… no. Because that’s maybe what she would have wanted 😁😁😂😂😂
The cliff.
Definitely the cliff. 😂
BUT…
Here’s why Katie is such a fantastic writer…
Even while I was over here being salty every time Dove showed up, I LOVED how she was written. She wasn’t there just to be annoying. She had purpose. She had depth. She made me FEEL things… even if those feelings were occasionally, “Girl… if you don’t stop…”
That’s incredible character work.
The banter??
Absolute GOLD.
“I need your help.”
“Code red, code flirty, or code ‘let’s commit high-level treason before lunch?’”
I actually laughed.
Then…
“Emotional support grapes.” 🍷🍶🥂
I was DONE. 😂🍇
Can we normalize emotional support grapes? Because honestly… same.
And don’t even get me started on the romance.
The chemistry??
GOOD. LORD.
The tension was on every page and around everyyyyyy single character!!!
The spice was spicing. 🌶️🔥 and just enough to make you day dream 😘
Let’s just say Katie knew EXACTLY what she was doing.
Then she’d turn right around and punch me in the feelings with lines like…
“Some truths do not die when silenced. They echo in blood, in memory, in bond—awaiting the one who dares to listen.”
and
“To guard her is my purpose. To love her is my burden.”
Excuse me while I go cry into my coffee.
The world-building was beautiful without ever making my brain hurt. Everything unfolded naturally, and before I knew it, I wasn’t just reading the story—I was living in it.
The biggest thing for me?
Not ONCE…
Not one single time…
Did I think, “Okay, let’s get through this chapter.”
I didn’t skim.
I wasn’t bored.
I wasn’t checking how much was left.
I wanted MORE every single time I put the book down.
And one thing that makes me ridiculously proud…
Katie Monohan is from the Pacific Northwest… just like me. ❤️
There is something really special about watching a fellow PNW author create a world this magical. Katie, if you ever read this… mad respect. Your imagination is incredible, your characters feel alive, and you absolutely wrecked my reading schedule in the best possible way.
So…
If you like fantasy… ✔️ Amazing world-building ✔️ Characters you’ll immediately become emotionally attached to ✔️ Banter that actually makes you laugh ✔️ Romance that’ll have you kicking your feet ✔️ Spice that’ll make you fan yourself ✔️ Plot twists that keep you turning pages…
Stop scrolling.
Go read Suns Heart.
Katie…
Respectfully…
I’m gonna need that sequel.. … 😂❤️📚 either that or think of me during the next eclipse. ☀️🌕♥️
AMAZING 👏, First i love Azeala, and Atreyus bond and how they whole heartedly believe in it. Its just so heart breaking that everyone and everything are keeping them apart. Why??? And Trinity oh wow Trinity is such a shallow jealous mean girl, Jarod is such a nice but he is just not the main character, Atreyus is London is the BEST Dove is a traitor, and i'm sorry but what .... this doesnt feel like an ending ??? Why?! 😭
Honestly an overall amazing book. Was I thrashed around and kicked a few times by the plot? Absolutely. 😂 Did I love every minute? Yes.
Just a warning though, if you don't like cliff hangers, this is not for you. While I absolutely adored this book (who doesn't love the whole.. broody, long lost, star crossed lovers thing), the cliff hanger gave me whip lash.
This is a book you stay up past your bedtime reading because you can't put it down.
I devoured this book, and it hooked me from page 1. This book is beefy, but don't let that put you off. I loved ALL of it, which is rare for a book this size. It didn't feel long, and each chapter felt worth it and necessary, especially with how well-written it is (and by well-written, I am including the fact that it felt like the author was inflicting emotional warfare on me multiple times in the best way possible).
I laughed, cried, fumed, gasped - all the emotions! I am soooo invested in the love triangle and can't wait to see what happens in the second one! This is easily in my top 5 favorite books of the year.
What I loved: -The characters. Main and side characters. Like I don't know which MMC to root for because they're so good, but I'm definitely rooting for Azalea and her true friends. -The setup and the stakes. The tension throughout the book kept me invested in the story. And that ending sets up the next book so well! It's not exactly a cliffhanger, but it's not not a cliffhanger either... -The world and the magic. I loved how the world and magic and bonds kept building and growing and making me want to know more. It was really unique. -The dialogue. I laughed out loud so many times. -The yearning. Oh my gosh the yearning - I'm a sucker for it. -The author called out a specific chapter in the Content Warnings that may be triggering for some with different artwork, and that chapter can be skipped without detracting from the story. I haven't seen that before, but I love that consideration for those who might be put off from reading the book or liking the book due to that.
What I didn't love: -Oof this book has some villains I HATE. One in particular that made me want to throw my Kindle across the room! But I also have to know what happens next and what motivations will be discovered for their actions...
Read this if you like: -Love triangles that are actually well done -Epic yearning -Celestial or elemental magic with deep bonds -Touch her and die -Emotional damage -Characters you'll absolutely love (and some you'll hate) -Slow burn (this book will require patience in this regard!) -Books that highlight light and dark, good and evil, and the messy gray areas in between
A few quotes I loved (of many): "Stay with me, Aelia. I'll raise tempests to rend the stars from their orbits before I let you go."
"She's mine. No power - mortal or divine - will keep us apart. Not in this life. Not in the next. Not in any eternity to come."
"If I asked you for your blood, what would you say?" "I guess I'd ask how much you want."
"Stronger than tequila - and far less likely to land you in bed with someone questionable."
"Here...emotional support grapes." (which I how I will forever be referring to wine now!)
And finally: "She's my beginning and my end. My ruin and my redemption."
So yeah, put this on your TBR immediately. Actually, don't. Bump something off your upcoming books to read and read this next!
I can't even adequately describe how this book made me feel. I blew up the Author's DMs while I read because I was mercilessly hooked and trying not to laugh or rage or cry or vomit. Boy does she know how to evoke every emotion in me viscerally. Boy does she know how to spike the angst and the pining and the love triangle. And I'm normally really good at predicting things but in this book, only half of what I thought was right. I am super impressed by the plot, the delightfully fleshed out world, and the flawed and delightful detestable devastating characters. The multi POV makes the stakes even higher, especially when you need to grab someone by the shoulders and scream. I'm so violently shook right now lol. I'd sell my soul for London tho and I have my life's savings mentally bet on him being a sweet doting cat daddy because he's the perfect eclectic bleeding heart of every girl's dreams. The author is such a peach for letting me rant into her DMs, because I think I need to re-up my therapy lol. I could wander this world forever
I’m very much a skip the synopsis and go in blind kind of reader, so I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into—and I was hooked from the very first chapter.
The world-building was phenomenal, and the pacing kept me completely invested from beginning to end.
Guardians and humans have always existed on the edge of one another’s worlds, but what happens when fate bonds a human to a Guardian? Absolute chaos.
This story is filled with deception, loyalty, war, and a love so powerful it could change everything. The stakes are high, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages to find out if fate would grant them one last chance to find their way back to each other.
If you enjoy immersive fantasy, slow-building tension, and high-stakes romance, I’d definitely recommend going in blind for this one.
Thank you Katie Monohan for the ARC of Sun's Heart. Azaela and Atreyus' story pulls you in from page 1 and doesn't let go. The book seems lengthy, but it is not drawn out and doesn't feel like it drags. There are characters you are going to love and characters that you are going to love to hate! You will feel all the feels during this book and will be nursing a book hang over as we wait for book 2!
Thank you to the author for this ARC, I am so grateful!! Wow wow wow! If you’re like me and grew up on Shadowhunters and now love Crescent City and you have not picked up Sun’s Heart, you are sleeping!! It takes a minute to get up to speed with the lore and magic but I was hooked from chapter 1. This is for fans of fated mates, intense yearning, and a dash of betrayal. I absolutely cannot wait for Moon’s Valor, book 2!
Sun’s Heart was an emotional and entrancing read! I loved that the story balanced deep emotions, personal struggles and growth. The love triangle between Azalea, Atreyus and Jarod was intriguing! The tension, drama, romance, open door spice had me wanting more! ❤️🔥 Katie Monohan did an amazing job at making these characters feel real and flawed versus making them picture perfect.
💖Thank you Katie Monohan for allowing me to read Sun's Heart in advance!
First off, just by reading the Prologue will draw a reader into this mysterious book. The cover of this book is gorgous. Also it was a nice little touch to have a little picture of the locket at every chapter. I loved the characters the world building and overall this story. A unique kind of fantasy read for sure.
This reciew might be short but I had to stop reading and go ahead and leave a review for this author to show my support.
Got the amazing opportunity to read this as an ARC and it was one of my best reads this year! The concept was so different than what I’ve read and it was captivating right off the bat. The bond between the Azalea and Atreyus is unlike anything else and it leaves you wanting more.
I could not recommend this book enough and will be to everyone I know! Katie we need book 2!!
Had a very unique opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book. It did not disappoint! Such a wonderful, beautiful story. This book has it all heartbreak, love, laughter, tears, secrets, lies, and an ultimate romance/bond that defies all odds. Such a different world than I have ever read before. Cannot wait for book #2!
ARC Review I absolutely loved this book! For me personally, the start was a little hard to get through because it felt a little like information overload, but once I started to understand everything I couldn't put the book down. Loved all the characters, but gotta say London was my favorite. Can't wait for book 2!
From the start to the end of Suns Heart I was entranced. The characters are all complex and flawed and multidimensional, the world this story takes place in is so different than most other books I've read. It's an amazing story and I will probably read it a couple times again before book 2 comes out, wich better be soon cuz omg I need to know what happens next.
ARC review. I loved this book so much! The bond between Atreyus and Azalea is just 🙌🏼🙌🏼 I can't wait for book two and to see where this story goes! It's funny, it's heartbreaking, exciting, I never wanted to put it down!
This has got to be one of the most unique plots I’ve read in a really long time, and it also broke my heart for Atreyus and Azalea. But the whole cast of characters was intriguing, especially London. He is such a girl’s girl.
There were so many lies and betrayals that my jaw was on the floor. The worldbuilding is phenomenal, and I loved the zodiac elements. This book is pretty lengthy, but I barely noticed because I was having so much fun. After that ending, I need book 2 like yesterday.
First off, I want to thank the author for allowing me the opportunity to read this book!
Second - WOW!!!!! I wish I could give this book a higher score. This book had me hooked the moment I started it. I don’t want to say too much because I want to give you all the opportunity to be totally captured by this incredible story.
I literally couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved the characters, even the antagonists. I loved the character development, how strong the characters are, and I’m excited to continue to watch them change and grow throughout the next book.
This book left me wanting more and I’m ready for book 2 to be released like yesterday. I am so series.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review I want to thank Katie Monohan for selecting me to read her book. Before I received the book, we talked about trigger warnings as they’re listed before reading it and she is the kindest person ever.
Let us talk about Sun’s Heart! Millions of years ago, the Moon and the Sun fell in love but unfortunately someone else loved the Sun and tore them apart and even threatened their daughter Earth. To protect Earth against the Noctarians, Moon and Sun and other Celestials descended to Earth. Aelia is a human girl with much power, bigger than any Celestial, bonded since childhood with another Celestial, Trey, since the eclipse, when Moon and Sun had their cosmic and magical encounter. Aelia thinks Trey rejected her and Trey thinks she’s dead. Although everybody wants to keep them apart, fate has other plans. It took me a while to get into the rhythm of the story. It’s a whole other world, the Celestial world and it's complicated until you understand the bonds, the backstory, and who they are. I also had a hard time reading Aelia’s POV because wtf, poor girl constantly being used, and the one she called friends, yeah I wanted to punch them. Trey acts nonchalant but if you let him talk he will for hours nonstop.
A lot is happening at the same time. There were moments I got lost and it took me a while to understand what was happening, and what it all meant. I think I picked up and entered a flowing stage around 40% into the book. The plot is there and you never lose sight of it, which I was glad about because when you’re reading a book with a new set of worldbuilding, it can get lost and the main point disappears. The theme of love, consent, and freedom is constantly brought up from different angles, with family, friends, and partners. There are scenes where it can be hard to read and big trigger warnings! There are attempts of assault on both main characters and consent being taken away so be aware of it!
My favorite chapter was chapter 56. Trey's circle is so funny and he can try and be grumpy but he is a simp with a golden heart.
Character-wise, all of them are morally grey and others are pure evil. The only one I would say is the purest is Dylan. He is the cutest thing in the world and the smartest, he almost solved all the issues in the book in less than a day. My biggest issue was the female characters. It feels like all of them were being portrayed in a bad way to make Aelia shine. Honestly, I do want to read more about soft baddies but there were moments it was cringe and it made her human. I was starting to like Dave but boy, I learned the hard way that Celestials are dicks incarnate. London was her only friend and don’t get me started with Jarod. The boy had issues and he was trying but he was making mistakes left and right. And, if there’s a character I hate the most: Mathias, and I can sense there’s a whole other story underneath it that we don’t know and I don't care, he’s still hated.
Sun’s Heart is a story that will slowly drag you until you’re hooked and hating the author for leaving you on a cliffhanger. It’s angst for sure and the Celestial world is so interesting. I can’t wait for the eclipse.
Sun’s Heart starts off quickly with a LOT of information, but there are so many secrets, lies, anger, angst, betrayal, and yearning woven throughout the story. I really loved the writing and the way the author phrases things, it felt beautiful and intentional, especially when it came to the emotions of the characters.
And when I say SLOOOOW BURNNN, I mean SLOW BURN. The passion, longing, and yearning between Azalea and the Atreyus was so intense that I could literally feel it in my chest. They were ripped apart and kept apart for fifteen years and only reunite very briefly at the end, so the entire book is filled with this ache of wanting, missing, and waiting for each other. Honestly, I’m sitting here yearning for their reunion just as much as they are.
There is a love triangle, and I thought the author did a really good job showing that the love from both men is genuine. Jarod’s love for Azalea is real, but Atreyus is the one who can give her the kind of love she’s truly yearning for, the love that comes from being bonded to someone, being their mate. I also loved how well the author captured Azalea’s anger, annoyance, jealousy, and sadness throughout everything she’s been through. The characters fight fiercely with each other, but underneath all of that is so much passion and love.
I finished this book desperately needing book two because that yearning is definitely NOT satisfied. I miss these characters and their relationship so much, and the crazy part is… I barely even got to know them together. That’s how good the longing was.
Thank you so much to the author for allowing me to read this beautifully written story before the release date.
SUNS HEART WHAT. WAS. THAT. WHAT!!!!! This book has emotionally destroyed me. And I havent been this destroyed in a long time.....but in a goodish way!
I received this as an ARC from the author and I struggled with it at first. I was so confused by everything and then there was so. Much. Info just dumped in the first few chapters. I almost did a DNF because I could not get into it. But something told me to stick it out. And I'm super glad I did.
I found Aelia to be super relatable and I felt her struggles as if they were my own. I felt her love for both Jarod and Atreyus. The frustration at Matthias and the higher ups, the heartbreak of knowing her mate was fucking around..... i felt it all.
AND MATTHIAS. FUCKING BITCH. I hate him. Gaslighting, controlling!! SCARED. He can rot in hell!
And Dove and Sutton. When Dove came in to wipe Aelia's memories of Trey and Dylan (love Dylan, he's so cute!!), i almost threw my kindle across the room. Because WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE BRTRAYED SOMEONE WHO THOUGHT OF HER AS A FRIEND.....And they took Jarod away! UGH. I legit had to put the kindle down after that whole debacle. Because that was the ultimate betrayal.
I'm pissed at the Noctarean king dude for nearly freaking raping Aelia. Like, how is she their queen? Wtf is that all about? And is Trey of Noctarean lineage???
This book was a beast, but it was well done. Well written. There was growth. There was love. There was hatred. All perfectly interwoven into this beautiful story. I need the next book in my hands.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This story is the literal definition of heartbreaking star-crossed lovers. My chest physically hurt for what they had to go through. I was livid for both of them having to endure that emotional destruction. This story was very plot heavy which I really enjoyed. I got so engrossed in the writing that this didn't even feel like an 800+ page book. I absolutely devoured it and fell so much in love with these characters!! I don't think I've ever had so much emotional whiplash before, but in a good way. This story did an exceptional job wringing out all the emotions.
My heart went out to Azalea. She was shackled to something beyond her control and had no choice in her own life. I could feel her anguish as if it was my own. She was resilient though and I admired her devotion to Atreyus.
I wasn't such how I felt about Atreyus in the beginning but as the story progressed and he grew, I knew he was going to be venerated. I liked his powers and enjoyed his point of view chapters.
I think at some point I felt every emotion available towards each of these characters, except London who I loved the whole time and Trinity who I despised the whole time. Everyone else it was like a roller-coaster. I'm so hooked on this story that I'll be anxiously waiting for the next book!! The writing was beautiful and did an exemplary job describing everything. This is one I will definitely be thinking about for a long time! I would definitely recommend it!!
I want to start by saying that I absolutely love any books that include zodiac and sun and moon references. Katie Monohan's Sun’s Heart is a great read that includes bonds, heartbreak, survival and betrayal. The amount of betrayal in this book is just crazy. I feel for Azalea. She has endured so much for her whole life and constantly gets knocked down but she is also strong and always gets back up. Atreyus has been through so much since he thought Azalea was dead. There is betrayal on both sides that has been keeping them apart is just sad.
I really love Azalea. She has been through it since she was a kid. Losing her family and being thrust into an unknown world. Through the early years, she has Atreyus to keep her steady. Then the separation came where he thought she was dead and she thought he didn't want to see her. She really grew through the book to start taking her life choices back especially after discovering she seems more than human.
Atreyus is a strong male character who never wanted to betray his bond with Azalea but needed to in order to survive. Once he realized she was alive, he did everything he could not to betray their bond, even at the cost of his life.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see where book 2 takes us.
I really enjoyed how Sun's Heart immediately captured my attention with its visuals. The artwork and design helped draw me into the story from the very beginning. As someone with ADHD, I especially appreciated the visuals throughout the book because they helped keep me engaged and connected to the story. The illustrations and design elements made the reading experience more immersive and easier to follow.
I also liked that the book started with a bit of spicy action, which made the opening engaging and kept me interested in what would happen next.
The pacing of the story was well done, allowing the plot and characters to develop naturally without feeling rushed. The storytelling was compelling, and I found myself invested in the journey as the story unfolded. Additionally, the overall design of the book enhanced the reading experience and complemented the narrative beautifully.
Overall, I would rate Sun's Heart 5 out of 5 stars. Between the strong pacing, engaging storytelling, eye-catching visuals, and thoughtful design, it was an enjoyable and memorable read that I would recommend to others.
Thank you Katie Monohan for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!
First of all, f*** Mathias 🤬🤬 I don’t know what his problem was and as much as I hate him I need answers to know why and what he did the thing he did!
This book had me pulling my hair for the most part! I was, sad, angry, anxious and maybe a few times happy thanks to London for the person he was. And I’m glad Azalea had him as her bestie! Azalea, the poor girl went through so much!! Her character was so strong, no matter what she was put through, she didn’t let them break her. I was very invested in all the side characters as most of them were important to the story and I was disappointed how some of them chose duty over friendship.
Atreyus and Jared were such great characters! I felt bad for Jared and his support and protection for Azalea was well written.
The world building was intense and the pacing was just right! It definitely was a unique story. I thought the ending was just a little anticlimactic, but that’s just my personal preference.
I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2, I have so many questions that I need answers to!
This book really grabbed me from the start. It starts off with the FMC in physical pain, literally dying, because her bonded mate (who thinks she died years ago) is sleeping with someone else. Yeah...you have my attention!
This is an epic romantasy, with a heart wrenching love triangle--the bonded mate and the protective guardian. Typically, I have a clear front runner when reading a love triangle, but I love both the MMCs! The yearning and slow-burn are top-tier.
Side characters really stand out in this one; they are layered and have distinct personalities that add texture to the story (I especially loved London’s sass!).
The world-building is very thick, infused with zodiac/celestial elements, winged warriors and guardians, mortal and divine powers.
I personally struggled just a little bit at the start with the back-and-forth between the present and the flashbacks. Sometimes it felt unclear whether the scene was present or past and it slowed me down some. This is probably just a me-thing :)
I recommend this one to romantasy readers that look for epic fantasy worldbuilding and enjoy a true slow-burn, with love triangle tension, and the bonded mate trope!
Where to start?! The world building is incredible! The book follows Atreyus and Azalea through so many trials, tribulations and people getting in their way. It is a long book, however the intrigue grips you from the start!
Mathias is an as*****! The way he keeps pushing his agenda to keep them apart. Bringing in Trinity, lying to Jarod, manipulating everyone and everything! Dove is the biggest b**** of all for betraying Azalea the way she did.
I have my reservations with London even though I believe his memory has been messed with too. However I appreciate how he stood up for her at the end.
Poor Jarod with his unrequited love, however it feels like there might be something hidden there with Sutton. We’ll have to wait and see.
I really enjoyed the concept of the sun, the moon and the sacred bond. There’s definitely more to Azalea that meets the eye.
I really need book 2! Can’t wait for all the machinations and manipulations to unravel so they can get their HEA!!
I received an ARC copy from the author, Katie Monohan, via BookFunnel in exchange for an honest review.
What a fantastic book! I signed up for this ARC based on the description I saw online, and I'm so glad I did. The story opens with a rich and intricate magic system that takes some attention to fully grasp, but that depth ultimately made the world feel incredibly immersive and rewarding. Once I became invested in the characters, I was completely hooked and couldn't put the book down.
By the time I finished, I immediately wanted to start a reread so I could catch even more details and appreciate the world-building on a deeper level. The characters, relationships, and emotional stakes kept me engaged from start to finish, and now I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel. I would be thrilled to be selected for an ARC of the next installment!
I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy complex magic systems, expansive world-building, forbidden romance, slow-burn romantic tension, and unforgettable characters. This is a story that stays with you long after the final page.
