Elizabeth had never been in a mansion like this one. Imported Italian marble. Stunning fountains. But it was nothing to the heart-stopping emotion which swept through her when she first laid eyes on Robert. Across the swirling waltzers at the masked ball, she had been caught by his gaze and held fast.
The way his hands held hers as they danced. The rich resonance of his voice. And something about those tawny eyes ...
A moment alone by the fountains of the Fates, a movement ...
Elizabeth blinks into awareness - and her world will never be the same.
Destiny Interrupted is Book 1 of a gently cliffhangered short story series which is being written one-a-day from April 1 through April 30, 2015. The sequence will lead up to a happily ever after ending. From Renaissance Venice to troubled Scotland, from the Civil War to the Wild West, Elizabeth and Robert find and re-find each other. The series is clean romance and is suitable for all ages.
Half of all author's proceeds benefit battered women's shelters.
I would love your input as I'm writing these - it's your suggestions which will help guide the direction the story moves in!

I downloaded a copy of this E-Book while it was free on Amazon. This is my personal Review.
Book Notes: Format: E-book Title: Destiny Interrupted - I like it. Cover: white and gold mask, black back- Its an OK cover.
About the Book: Elizabeth and her friend, Mary, arrive at a masquerade ball at the request of one of Elizabeth's professors. She is there to discuss the donation Robert Argento made to the American Antiquarian Society, but first she must find him.
My Review: Though it was only a few pages, the story captured my attention. I was in the moment with Elizabeth and Mary as they entered the ball feeling completely out of place. When Elizabeth finally spots Robert The problem was the book ended way to quickly. This story was the start of something big and I look forward to reading more of it. I only hope the rest of them aren't as short.
Quote that best sums up the story:
“Like I could pretend to belong and fit in, if just for a little while.” (Kindle Location 52)
You know I'm all for serialized fiction. Heck I don't mind cliffhangers but this doesn't follow ant of the rules for storytelling. There is no beginning, middle, and end. This is a set up for a larger piece nothing more.
It's also a clear money grab.
I have absolutely zero problems with authors offering the first work for free to reel in readers. I've found several new favorite authors that way. But those were complete works, not something that barely qualifies as a chapter.
The only reason this doesn't get one star is because the writing is decent and the editing acceptable.
Disclaimer: I was given this book for an honest review.
And there lies the uncomfortable truth I must deal with. So let me kindly say, I saw no editing errors in the story. It was well written, according to my low standards.
BUT... I hate short stories. I wish I would have known. I wouldn't have jumped for a chance to read this. In a day when binge watching of a series is the best way to watch something, I feel the same for my reading. I want to read everything in a series non-stop. Except romantic chic-lit. I can tolerate it in some stories, but for the full reason to read something I find it demeaning to womynkind.
The saving grace, and probably the reason I jumped at the chance to read this story: time travel. But this story didn't include that until the end. Just when you get to know the characters (weak and swoony) we are left with a cliffhanger that includes waking in another time. Oh, yeah, what else do I hate? Let's say it all together: Cliffhangers.
Look, there are a lot of high ratings for this book. If you see yourself as able to handle this kind of writing, you will probably love this one, too. It is free. The rest of the series seems to be $.99 an installment. Not bad for snippets of story. Enjoy!
"Destiny Interrupted" by Lisa Shea is the first book in a multi-part series, and it has left me wanting way more of the story right now! Elizabeth and her friend Mary are invited to a masked party representing the American Antiquarian Society. Hoping to get a few minutes to speak with Robert Argento and thank him for his families generous contribution to the society, she finds herself completely enthralled with him as soon as she catches a glimpse of him across the room. There seems to be something between the two of them that she can't seem to comprehend. Someone appears to want to stop them from finding out what that special thing is.
Highly recommend this series and hope that the rest is as awesome as the beginning has been
I have always enjoyed Lisa's writing, and this was no exception. I think she did a great job introducing our two main characters, Elizabeth and Robert. The settings were wonderful and the eloquence of the writing was also great. My only issue is that I did feel sort of dropped into the middle of the story at the start. I did not think we got a smooth intro to the start of the story. I think if we had a proper intro to the story, like a setting description, it would have made the beginning stronger. Wonderfully done, Lisa!
Kindle Unlimited, some of this writer's are some are not. Some of these stories liked better than others, thought they flowed or whatever better, but that is usually how it is with a collection or set or whatever. Standalone books are more akin to 'serialized' stories, so short shorts. There really isn't enough time to tell each story properly, so started to give it/them a 4 but did read through all 10 and 10 following but could be fleshed out a bit more in each to give more history, etc.
