Fury and guilt assail Hauk, a fierce Viking warrior, after he allows false healers to cure his family to death. When he’s ordered to capture the Great Witch of the Woods in Northumbria, he doesn’t anticipate that his hatred for all things magick would be challenged by a long-legged beauty with sparking brown eyes.

Even with her great healing powers, Merewin’s fear of failure nearly cripples her resilient spirit. Strong wills clash as Merewin and Hauk battle their instant attraction. Can Hauk trust a healer with his remaining family and with his heart? Can Merewin conquer her own pride to love this powerful man who possesses an unacknowledged magic of his own? In the end Merewin and Hauk must put their faith in each other and in their love. For love is the only magick that can heal someone’s soul.

I am Heather McCollum, writer of 16th and 17th century Scottish romance full of adventure and intrigue, sprinkled with humor, history, and spice. Brawny Highlanders and feisty heroines are my favorite characters!

I am also a mom of three kids, dog-mom of one rescued geriatric golden retriever, and wife of one 6 foot 4 inch Highlander. When I’m not trying to help my kids make it through the day, baking things I see on The Great British Baking Show, or writing, I’m usually educating women on ovarian cancer (I’m a nine-year survivor).

I love kilted heroes, chai lattes, and eating buttered air-popped popcorn for dinner on Friday nights (my dog loves this one too).

Worst of the Series, But Still Good
3.5/5 Stars
This one was my least favorite of the series, but still a good book. I think it was the characters more than anything. I didn’t like that Hauk had a daughter. I almost always hate children in romances. They completely ruin the atmosphere. McCollum does do a nice job of getting rid of the kid as much as possible, but I just felt like she got in the way. I didn’t like that Hauk’s power was confusing and never really defined and I don’t think it added anything to the plot, just muddled it. The H&h really didn’t spend much time together either. They just thought about the other person and when they did find time together they were always interrupted. Very few meaningful conversations happening, which isn’t typical for McCollum. I have read everything published by Heather McCollum and there isn’t a book of hers I didn’t like. I highly recommend her books and especially this series. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I love this series. It is about the second sister Merewin who is sent into the past, by her mother, to save her life. She is sent to the Viking era and meet a warrior named Hauk...who is super yummy! Merewin has the gift of healing. Hauk arrives at her home and kidnaps her, to bring her back and heal the kings child. Her healing gift doesn't really work that great on babies or very young children since they can't really express(or recognize) their desire to live like adults can. Hauk doesn't like or trust any kind of Magic. This story shows there attraction and battles with each other.

This story flows and grips you in a way that you can't put the book down. The series is about each sister and a surprise waiting at the end (which I don't want to ruin)...so if my review seems a little off or something is missing, sorry I just don't want to give it away! You will not be disappointed with this book.

Book2

This 2nd book is a nice addition to the book 1, they tie together nicely as well. As they should. Additionally the story flows a bit more sore smoothly than the first hats off to the author. Also great imagination and work into Dane.

Great series!

I enjoyed the plot, the characters, their struggles, and their accomplishments. This is a fun, light read when you want a break from reality.
