Forging Without Limits #1

Infinite Forge: OP MC Cozy Crafting Slice of Life Litrpg

Rate this book
In the world of the system, everyone gets a class at eighteen. Most kids in Thornwall went to the combat tents. Edric Moss ended up at the back of the fair, in a patched canvas tent with no banner, talking to a dwarf who asked him to hold a piece of metal and say what he felt.

He said it was heavy for its size. He said one side felt different from the other.

Borin Ashgrit told him to come back at sixth bell.

That was the beginning.

Infinite Forge follows Edric through his first months as a blacksmith's apprentice in the small town of Dunmore. The fundamentals, the mana work, the forge, and the slow discovery that what he puts into the things he makes tends to stay there. That his mana pool grows every time he finishes a piece. That the system keeps generating new vocabulary to describe what he produces.

That his ceiling, when Stonemantle looked for it, wasn't there.

Cozy progression fantasy. Slow burn. Crafting

AI

Okay, I like the concept of these books. But something threw me off the word choices, the repeating the same thing as if to inflect a deeper meaning on the context. Pisses me off I struggled through the book thinking its just a new author that its there first book and will progress as time comes. No by the end I am convinced its at least 80% AI there were a couple points where I am convinced the "author" actually wrote something where you could feel the warmth and life come to life and then die in a pit of dispair.

Not worth the read and honestly wish amazon could do better than this when you pay for kindle and AI slop makes its way into the books you love.

Wow! So boring with a headache

For starters let me say that this book is so boring that it actually gave me a headache and I could not recommend this novel to anyone unless they seriously just want to give themselves pain. The main character is boring the plot is predictable there's not any real conflict in this story and whoever wrote this has a very dry sense of humor.

It was almost "very good", but in the end it was a tad boring, with no personalities, much less any personal growth.

I enjoyed most of it, but found myself skimming for the last quarter. I didn't DNF; I never really considered that. So that's okay. But if it was good, I wouldn't be skimming, would I?

It is definitely a cozy fantasy; no fighting here. I like this kind of book. I don't need fighting, but there should be some kind of tension or struggle. There was some tension with unknown players snooping around trying to figure out what was going on with this apprentice everyone is talking about. But that was it. Perhaps in the next book in the series. And that's it for any tension. In the end, it was just boring.

The MC is young, learning, and he has a quirk; his pool of mana keeps climbing, slowly and steadily. Which allows him to do certain things with his blacksmithing. He has to work at his talents, but not his mana pool. I'm good with that; I don't like an immediately OP MC. I would rather they have to struggle. I don't see any struggle here; work but no struggle. (-1 star)

Also, we don't get any real, whole, personalities for anyone. We have a grumpy but wise master blacksmith dwarf. A stereotype. We have the loyal friend (unfortunately in a different city - maybe more to do with her in the next book?). A stereotype. We have a smart, loyal clerk/fellow-worker. A stereotype. And, what about him, the MC, the main character? Not really much other than he thinks things through. (-1 star)

The writing is clear and descriptive. No grammar errors. But it's kind of odd, or at least different. This is neither good nor bad. It's just that I have never heard more uses of "in the way of".
Ex. "Mira became very still behind the counter in the way of someone who intends to remain in the room by becoming part of the furniture."
Or, "He was looking at the floor in the way of someone doing serious arithmetic." How does someone look when they do serious arithmetic?
Everyone was described this way, sometimes without using "way of". It certainly got the point across about what was happening or what the person thought. I just found it odd. Interesting at first, then a bit annoying (a tiny bit). (0 stars removed)

In the end, would I recommend this book to someone? No. If they read it themselves they wouldn't be completely unhappy, but there are better books out there of this style, like "Demon World Boba Shop".

ai written or heavily ai assisted

“the way” — 241 times
“specific” — 159 times
“particular” — 58 times

This book is 356 pages long
241 times in 356 pages.

These terms and phrases are used heavily by AI to “hedge” around committing to a concrete concept or idea.
There are some terms and phrases that have shot up in usage by ridiculous amounts in the past few years in some fiction writing. Phrases like ‘the way’ or ‘the specific *blank*’ and ‘the particular *blank*’.
Not only are these being massively overused, they are often being added unnecessarily, and they are often followed by a nonsense statement that sounds like it was intended to be meaningful, but didn’t make sense. These nonsense statements also appear without the overused terms, just to be clear.

All this to say, I think this is heavily AI assisted if not completely an AI fabrication.

Various examples:

“-charged the way a room feels when something large takes up space you can't quite locate.”

“He looked Edric up and down the way a man examines a beam he's considering for a load-bearing wall: not unkind, but precise, with no particular interest in being polite about it.”

“that specific loosening that came after a big thing was finished.”

“-he looked older than he had the previous afternoon, or maybe just more clearly himself without the context of the fair noise around him.”

“But there was a faint impression of detail that hadn't quite been there before, the grain of the wooden table, the specific texture of the stone hearth, the way the two card players across the room held their hands with the particular tension of men playing for something that mattered to them.” (Double whammy, ‘the way’ + ‘particular’)

“-specific way you missed something that had been so constant you hadn't known you were attached to it.”

“-lit up in the specific way of someone who had been stretched by a conversation and found the stretching satisfying.”

“The afternoons blurred into each other in the particular way that intensive repetitive learning blurred time,-“

My reviews are my own. If you enjoyed this book, I’m glad you did. If not, I respect your opinion, so please respect mine. This is simply my view, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.

I'm so glad I found this series. I honestly don't understand why Amazon promotes books with weak plots, poor writing, or excessive vulgarity instead of well-written stories like this one.

I really enjoyed this book and its characters. I also appreciated that the main character is a respectful young adult, which is refreshing since that's not the case in many books—or, unfortunately, often in real life.

The story is a genuine slice-of-life novel that stays focused on its craft. That's surprisingly rare, as so many series spend more time on unrelated drama than on what their titles actually promise.

I hope the author keeps the focus on friendship and personal growth rather than introducing romance into the progression. I'm jumping straight into Book 2!

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

Not for me

I picked up this book because the premise seemed interesting, and I have another blacksmith storyline that I am thoroughly enjoying from another writer, and I wanted to give this one a shot. This series will be a hard pass for me.

While I believe the prompts for this story were written by a human, the story itself gave every indication that it was not.

The conversations between the characters were short, stilted, and lacking life. The repetitive sameness of the meals and interactions of whatever characters were introduced throughout the story were lifeless. The total lack of complicated dynamic real connections between the characters became frustrating and sad. It was depressing to me.

Worst of all was the fact that I didn't dislike the characters. There was nothing wrong with them. There was also no reason to continue walking with them.

If you liked this book, then congratulations. You have more of the same to read since there are more books in the series. If you are looking for a book with a spark and life, this one is not the one.

Editorially challenged

Storyline Has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, The author is chronologically challenged At a minimum. He describes weeks worth of events and suddenly puts them in A single week.
The groundhog day effect Where he learns multiple Days of things but it only takes a day...
At 1 point in the book He Was at week 6 And spent 2 weeks And he was still only in week 6 of his apprenticeship.

Good but confusing Accounting of The stat page...

Multiple events occur And accepted as normal But no history or explanation behind them.

Apparently you can take system notifications and hand them from 1 person to another as As a physical object...

If the author rewrites the book With a flow chart of the timeline and followed it this could actually be a good story.

Slice of life fantasy of the cozy crafting LitRPG subgenre. Easy reading. Probably not worth rereading.

I am writing this after reading the first three books and part of the fourth. There is a lot of repetition. There are formatting errors that are easily ignored. There are a lot of places where the numbers don’t match up, particularly how long the main character has been an apprentice, ages of children, how long Aldric had been using his sword, and how many containers there were in the underground room. It makes me wonder whether the author made changes that weren’t fixed everywhere, didn’t take careful notes of the timeline, or possibly used AI for part of the later books. I doubt I’ll read book 5. With all that said please note that I finished the first three books and am over halfway through book 4. I typically give up on books quickly when they don’t hold my attention.

Rating for series.
I have read all six currently-available books, one after the other, because the characters and the themes and the plot are compelling. It is truly cozy with no heightened stakes, only deeper connections. The MC is nominally 18, mostly acts 10 to 15 years older, and has genuine support from secondary characters such that extreme good luck does not ruin him.
That said, this is clearly AI-assisted, with the most egregious “specific” examples in the third book. A good editor could keep the good and great stuff and get rid of the repetitions and timing inconsistencies. If those things drive you crazy, fair warning.

At one point I was considering five stars cause I was really really enjoying this book. I am a sucker for crafting progression. I loved the town and all the people in it. Everything is very well thought out. Maybe not the world but definitely this town. Got a little bogged down with repetition before the wall was built and started to wonder if this was just well edited AI. Story picked up again. Thank you.

Great!

I've read several thousand books and know the difference between good and bad writing. I am generally tough in my reviews and I rate few books at 5 stars. I assumed this was just another series written by an author who probably was better suited to be something other than a writer. I was terribly wrong. I loved it from the first chapter until the last word. I think any reader will enjoy this book.

Beautiful, gentle first book in the series

A lovely cosy story watching a blacksmith’s new apprentice grow. Characters are well rounded and likeable.

A typical fantasy set in alternate universe with gnomes and other fantasy creatures part of the population without common automatic clashes between races.

This book sets the stage for future stories and growth well with some hints of future conflicts.

Logic only

There’s almost no emotion in this book what so ever. It’s all practical and logical to the point it puts me to sleep like nothing else. I’m so tired of all these books that are popping out of nowhere. If you want to be an author, then don’t have AI write your book for you. It never ends well.

Awesome is just not enough.

This was definitely my kind of book, I enjoyed the descriptive sessions at the anvil, the work with different materials and the stages that when forging you work through. The author must have a really good grounding in blacksmithing because I’ve never read a book that really makes you feel like you are watching the show “Forged in Fire “

infinite Forge

The story line is very clean and character development progresses in a very interesting way. It is, at least so far, a story that makes you smile as it is read. The main character grows without the constant, and irritating, messaging as everything flows. I am looking forward to vol. 2.

An okay start.

I mostly enjoyed reading this book. It was AI generated. Repetitive wording. Repetitive descriptions. No distinction between prose and dialogue. Wordy. The story and characters were at least interesting and entertaining. It's doubtful I will continue reading this series.

More of the same AI writing

This is written by AI. It's got all the hallmarks that have taken over Kindle. The tone of the writing. The repetitive sentences and the nonsense that is meant to sound so important and deep. This is not original or entertaining or even good. I'm starting to think Kindle may not be worth it anymore.

Ok book

It's a homestead book instead of an action one. The main flaw is the main character has no character at all . Every answer is one word sure it's good if you're alive but not in a book.

Not bad

While I enjoyed the story I wasn't a fan of the descriptions. While they were great for making you feel what the author wants you to feel, it pulls your consciousness out of the story to think about how it feels.

Beautiful writing and …

Excellent world setting, the descriptive language is beautiful in itself making it enjoyable to read without making the story drag.
The story itself is excellent and hard to put down. I keep thinking: more, don’t stop.

nobody died

Not that kind of story. Coming of age is close. The writing is clear, the character a little murky yet… there’s broth, promise, and a cosy tale emerging, baked goods that defy explanation, mysterious visitors who do not bode well. A good tale

Mildly entertaining

I like crafting stories. Especially ones about smithing. This one is an interesting premise but executed by a machine. Very repetitive, flat or hollow metaphors. Too much time spent on describing what something isn’t. Unfortunately common on KU these days.

A great read

The storyline about a young man finding a apprenticeship in itself is a great start to the story. The description of whst he is becoming as he learns his craft holds you in its grip. I look forward to reading more of the journey to becoming an epic blacksmith.

another AI written lifeless novel

This book is bland, boring, and so excessively written by AI that it is frankly very difficult to navigate. Don’t waste your time find something written by an actual author.

Altruistic key-wrap

Good book interspersed with juvenile economic beliefs — If I have it, you deserve it. That really means in the real world, "I deserve what you have worked for.”

Slow Consistent Wonderful

A slow building truly cozy in depth look at what is to be a blacksmith. To being a young man finding his place and discovering his new home. Memory, anticipation and intention. Acknowledged and fulfilled. We'll worth reading.

An Excellent beginning

This was a different take on the OP main character. As a craftsman myself, I truly enjoyed the narrative of the path of learning that the main character travels. A very interesting story, I’m looking forward to reading more about these characters.
