One Liner: Good premise; the writing needs some finesse
Aiden, with a bad-boy reputation, arrived in Hudsbury hoping for peace. However, the sleepy little town has a peculiar shop (with magic) that attracts his attention and makes him want to be the town’s newest baker.
The residents and a mysterious grey cat named Mist know a lot more than they reveal, and there are many signs that magic is integral to the town.
While figuring things out, Aiden meets a local nurse, Mia, and their little friends-with-benefits arrangement turns a little too real. But pasts and secrets have a way of arriving unannounced. The town’s magic could be exactly what they need for their love story!
The story comes in Aiden and Mia’s third-person POVs.
My Thoughts
Well, with so many books having cinnamon, apple, pumpkin, etc., in their titles, I decided to grab one to add to my list. Also, this book has a magical small town, food, and a mysterious cat.
I like that the book focuses more on the MMC. We are introduced to him first. He is the one who loves baking and is great at it. Also, he has a past (that doesn’t get revealed until the last quarter), tattoos, and a motorbike (very common in India, but a trope in itself for Western readers).
The characters are easy to like, so it’s not even an effort to read the book. They are sweet, quirky, funny, and kind. I wish Ope and Kitkat had more scenes together. Such an adorable couple!
The setting and the magical elements are super cozy. I like the description (whatever little we get). And that brings me to the major issue.
This book is so, so dialogue-heavy! The first half seems to move almost entirely through dialogue with very little description. That pretty much dilutes the atmosphere the setting could have created if it was allowed to settle. Is this because some people revealed that they read only the dialogues and skip everything else? Such people cannot even be called readers! Description is the heart of a story. It’s where the magic happens! I hope authors don’t start catering to nitwits with attention spans shorter than goldfish. Let the characters and story breathe before things progress!
Anyhoo, it did get better in the second half, even if dialogues continue to go on and on.
I like that the MCs have a good relationship. A nice friendship where they actually stick to the terms of their initial agreement. The author used a creative way to show the actual feelings without making the characters annoying. They are figuring things out at their own pace. That said, it’s not always smooth sailing, so things change when the truth comes out, as they often do.
While magic is integral to the plot, the initial setting (the store) kind of takes a back seat. I did miss it and the MMC’s baking as the focus shifted to his personal life and romance.
A few other conventional themes have been inverted in this one, which is rather cute. I like it!
Almost from the beginning, I wondered whether this was to be a standalone or the first in the series, as it seemed more series-aligned. I was right. It is the first book in a new series (likely to be an interconnected standalone) set in the magical small town. This information appears at the end.
To summarize, The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery has a good premise and setting. However, the narration needs to balance dialogue with description. Let the events settle before taking the story forward with extended conversations.

This was such a sweet fun magical cozy audio book !!! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the characters and storyline. The narrator really brought this to life with a great sense of humor and lightness. Two souls who don’t believe in magic or that they can have their happily ever after!! I’m so glad they found the bakery !! This was almost like a spiritual awakening and finding one’s purpose while finding the one that with bear your burdens alongside you. Very heartwarming and loved all the magical elements. Although it’s true the emotions we bring in with us always affect the magic !!!

There are some books you read for the romance, and then there are books you read because you want to spend a little longer in their world. The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery was definitely the latter for me.
If you told me there was a magical bakery in a cozy little town filled with tarot, reiki, herbs, haunted pumpkins, musical floorboards, and a talking cat named Mist, I’d be there in a heartbeat.
The atmosphere was easily my favorite part of the book.
Ella Cook creates a world that feels warm, whimsical, and quietly magical. The magic isn’t loud or over the top. It simply exists alongside everyday life, making Hudsbury feel like somewhere you’d actually want to wander around for an afternoon. Every magical detail added to the charm, and Mist completely stole every scene he was in.
Where the book didn’t quite work for me was Aiden and Mia. I never really connected with either of them individually, and because of that, I couldn’t invest in their relationship either. Something about them just didn’t click for me. It was written in narrator pov, which made the story feel a little more distant than I wanted, and I kept wishing for more insight into what Aiden and Mia were actually thinking and feeling beneath the surface. I kept waiting for that moment where I’d start rooting for them, but it never came. The romance felt a little underdeveloped, especially compared to how rich and inviting the setting was.
What kept me turning the pages was everything happening around the romance. The magical realism, the witchy vibes, the bakery, the quirky townspeople, and the found family elements all made this such a comforting read.
If you’re picking this up expecting a romance-first story, you might end up wanting more. But if you love cozy fantasy with small town charm, gentle magic, autumn vibes, talking animals, and a touch of whimsy, I think you’ll have a lovely time with this one.

4* I really enjoyed this book. At the beginning I wasn’t to sure. But I am glad I stuck with it because I ended up really enjoying it. This book made me laugh out loud a few times, I am sure I had a dopey smile on my face most of the time too 🤣 this is my first read by this author. I can’t wait to read more

The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery doesn’t just wander into your reading life — it sweeps in like a cinnamon‑dusted enchantment wearing a leather jacket, smelling like autumn, and whispering “babe, your feelings are about to get sautéed.”
Aiden arrives in Hudsbury wanting peace, quiet, and absolutely zero magical nonsense — which is adorable, because Hudsbury is basically a cosy supernatural trap disguised as a postcard. The town has golden leaves, warm fog, whispering trees, and a vibe that says “we’re definitely haunted but in a friendly way.”
He gets sucked into a cinnamon‑scented bakery run by magic, mischief, and a grey cat named Mist who is clearly the CEO of the entire town. Before he knows it, he’s convinced to become Hudsbury’s newest baker — which is hilarious, because he didn’t even come here looking for a job, let alone one involving enchanted scones.
Hudsbury is full of:
heart‑soothing teas that absolutely have opinions
jack‑o‑lanterns offering romantic advice like chaotic therapists
trees that whisper secrets like nosy neighbours
fog that feels warm, which is suspicious but also kind of lovely
And then there’s Mia.
Practical nurse.
Grounded.
Sweet.
Absolutely not prepared for Aiden’s chaotic magic or the bakery’s supernatural shenanigans.
One playful night turns into a spicy “benefits” arrangement — the kind where both parties pretend it’s casual while the pumpkins in the corner are cackling because they know better. The Cinnamon Spell Bakery was a lighthearted and hopeful book that was very enjoyable to read. I love cozy books, and cozy fantasy has become one of my favorite genres. I loved the whole magic plot in this book, and I loved the sense of found family.
The characters were very interesting; I really liked Aiden and Mia. However, Ophelia, Katie, and Mist were great secondary characters.
The pace was good, and it was easy to read, and I really liked the ending; it felt unique.
Nonetheless, there were a couple of things I didn’t love. For starters, both the cover and title don’t really reflect the story's details, in my opinion. The second thing was that I wasn’t expecting this book to be spicy.
Overall, I enjoyed it, and I would definitely read more books by the author.

I can't even synopsis this book.
It started with one of the most enchanting, entertaining, and magical first chapters I've read in a long time. Truly, I was laughing out loud and eager to keep reading.
But then it dumped two of my least favorite tropes on me. There was the classic "We've only known each other for two weeks, but you didn't tell me about a traumatizing secret, and now we can't be friends, and I'll never speak to you again." This was barely dealt with before we dove into the real problematic thing.
I already dislike books where one of the love interests has a complex about "I'm a terrible person and completely unlovable and I'll definitely hurt you if you love me" nonsense when he's just a normal guy. But it gets worse. It turns out, he thinks he's unlovable because his mother has a heritable disability. He thinks that there's a chance he will have the disability and that being disabled would make him unlovable. He. Thinks. That. Disabled. People. Can't. Have. Love. and. Family.
I get that the society we live in doesn't understand disability and would rather pretend that disabled people don't exist. But that this character would tell his partner (who is a nurse, incidentally) that he can't love her because he might be disabled someday ... This is about the worst ableist bullshit I've ever heard. Does he not realize that everyone, if they live long enough, becomes disabled at some point? Does he not think that disabled people are capable of love? Does this author understand how damaging it is to continually spew this ableist bullshit into the world.
Why?
I feel so betrayed by this book. It purports to be a cozy romance, but the only way the male lead can be happy is if he thinks he won't be disabled. What an awful way to end a book. No amount of charming talking cats and quirky magical pumpkins can make up for how hurtful this is.

I had such a good time reading A Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery by Ella Cook. Honestly, give me a cozy bakery, a little bit of magic, some romance, and plenty of cinnamon, and I’m already happy. This book just felt like my kind of comfort read.
The bakery was probably one of my favorite parts. I loved the warm, cozy atmosphere and all the little magical touches throughout the story. There were so many times I wished I could actually walk through the door, order something sweet, and sit there for a few hours. And yes, this book absolutely made me crave cinnamon rolls while I was reading.
I also really loved that the story had so much heart. I found myself getting attached to the characters and genuinely caring about what happened to them. I loved watching the relationships develop and seeing the characters figure out what they wanted, especially when it came to taking chances and letting themselves be happy. There were several little moments that had me smiling at my book like an idiot.
The romance was sweet and gave me those warm, fuzzy feelings without taking away from everything else I loved about the story. I’m always a sucker for a romance mixed with a little magic, so this was definitely speaking my language.
More than anything, this was just one of those books that made me happy. It was cozy, charming, romantic, magical, and full of the kind of comforting vibes I love. I didn’t want anything stressful or heartbreaking—I wanted a book I could curl up with and enjoy, and this gave me exactly that.
By the end, I really wasn’t ready to leave the characters or the bakery behind. I just wanted to stay there a little longer, preferably with something warm and cinnamon-covered in my hand.

I loved watching the relationships develop and seeing the characters figure out what they wanted, especially when it came to taking chances and letting themselves be happy. There were several little moments that had me smiling at my book like an idiot.
The romance was sweet and gave me those warm, fuzzy feelings without taking away from everything else I loved about the story. I’m always a sucker for a romance mixed with a little magic, so this was definitely speaking my language.
More than anything, this was just one of those books that made me happy. It was cozy, charming, romantic, magical, and full of the kind of comforting vibes I love. I didn’t want anything stressful or heartbreaking—I wanted a book I could curl up with and enjoy, and this gave me exactly that.
By the end, I really wasn’t ready to leave the characters or the bakery behind. I just wanted to stay there a little longer, preferably with something warm and cinnamon-covered in my hand.

This was a solidly "okay" book for me. The audio was really good though, the narrator Laura Kirman did a great job bringing the characters to life. The tone was great and the personality given to each character was really fitting. If you grab this one I totally recommend the audio.
The plot itself was where I'm just "okay" with it. It really didn't grab me that much. I really enjoyed the side characters way more than the main characters actually, and I wish it had been the other way around. But it wasn't bad, it just wasn't my favorite cozy book I've ever read. It is a really short audio too, only a little over 9 hours so it isn't a huge time commitment which was a selling point for it for me.
If you want some fall vibes with some romance, magical realism and great side characters, I would recommend this audio!

Thank you netgalley for the arc. Ok some stories just hit you and stick with you. This one made me feel like I was right there with them. Loved this cozy and magical story. It gives you all the feels and it was just a cute story. The mix of magic and fall vibes had me from the start. So good!

DNF @ 30% - romance with suspected magic
I picked this one up expecting a cosy autumn / fall read given the title and cover. The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery is a sweet - VERY sweet - story that sees Aiden arrive in Hudsbury on his motorbike. He enters a local shop that is mysterious and otherworldly, and is convinced that he could be a good baker by the owner, who offers him a job on the spot. Aiden doesn't particularly find this strange, but as he settles in, he sees some odd things that he cannot really explain, yet also doesn't choose to - it's like he sees things, thinks that it's odd, and then his thoughts are redirected. I thought this was something this novel does really well - if you haven't been awakened to the magic, it will take steps to prevent being exposed. You need to be ready for the magic to be revealed to you. Once Aiden is awakened, the power he feels comes crashing in in a rush of colour, vibrancy and understanding. He is very accepting, almost instantly, which felt a little jarring. I know if I was revealed to have magic I'd need time to come to terms with it and time to learn about it. Maybe that's just me though.
Aiden's character is a bit of enigma. He is introduced as a bad boy, a biker into rock music who sleeps around. We soon learn that there is a reason he avoids commitment, but other than his bedroom exploits, there is very little "badness" to him. In fact, he is the absolute opposite. And I think that's what the author intended - but there is so much leaning on the bad boy image with so little substance, that it feels a little weak. Once he lays eyes on Mia, he flirts outrageously, but it's clear that he would love more from her - if he thought he could have that. As their friendship develops, and evolves into a friends-with-benefits situation, he tries to remain firmly in that box, knowing she is looking for her "Disney Dream Dude", and believing he has no future to offer her. Despite that, he doesn't see anyone else. As feelings develop, and a truth comes out about his home life, Mia feels betrayed, and the magic surrounding them both does more than a little hinting that they need to sort it out, which was quite amusing. Their future very much hinges on Aiden taking a big step, to do something he has been afraid to do because the implications are huge. It turns out that this "bad boy" has actually been really sweet all along - his only "bad" attribute has been enjoying no strings fun before Mia. It felt like he was missold as a character, given a motorbike to make him look a certain way when it couldn't have been more different. Which is a shame, I would have liked to have seen a real bad boy brought to his knees by a feisty-yet-good nurse.
Mia is a strong willed FMC who knows what she wants from life. When she meets "Biker Boy" and the instant flirting begins, her friend warns her off him, so she continues looking for her DDD, whilst enjoying her banter with Aiden. When she raises the friends-with-benefits concept, she feels empowered and becomes bolder, wanting to feel attractive and to have a lot of fun whilst still looking for the one. She is still stuck in the mundane, so although she is almost aware of repeated themes of hearts popping up around her when her and Aiden are temporarily estranged, it isn't clear to her just how much the universe wants them to be together. In his quest for transparency, he awakens her to the magic surrounding her - something that has been a long time coming. Again, Mia was very quick to accept that everything was real, which did also jar against her character's persona - she is a nurse who is used to very scientific, realistic situations of caring and treatments. I feel like she would have been even more sceptical than Aiden when it comes to magic being a very real thing.
When it comes to the love story, it isn't earth shattering, it won't rock your world, but it is very sticky sweet. And I think I struggled with that because I'm so used to love stories that blow me away with drama or feeling or spicy scenes that blaze hot. I don't think there is anything wrong with people liking this sort of love story, but it just wasn't for me. I like fire burning between my MCs. This was very much a dusting of powdered sugar.
I also found that some of the dialogue in this novel felt a little stilted, like it had been written to sound beautiful but instead didn't feel like a normal person would say it. Similarly, when Mia tells Aiden he can't push her away because he loves her, he about-faces on his point as if he hadn't been fighting her seconds before. It didn't fit with his character and it felt jarring and awkward.
I feel that if you love a love story that is sticky-sweet, with very little drama, a magical world that is very light and with barely any jeopardy, then this could be the read for you. Sadly, those things aren't what I look for in a book, and I found it so saccharine that I could feel the sugar coating my teeth. I struggled to connect with the story, and even the characters couldn't rescue it for me. I did find the exploration of the magic system intriguing and I loved the premise of it protecting itself from those unaware of its existence. The talking display for Samhain was hilarious too. I can't say I hated it, but I really can't say I loved it either. I do think that's a me problem.

I honestly don't know how I managed to finish this book.
I went into Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery expecting fantasy, magic, romance and a lovely autumnal atmosphere. Instead, I got a romance with a few supernatural decorations thrown in. There is very little actual magic, very little autumn atmosphere (there will be pumpkins and Samhain thrown in the mix, but unsuccessfully) and what little magical world-building there is never really developed.
The writing was probably my biggest problem. It felt incredibly basic and, at times, like something written by a teenager who has watched too many romantic comedies. The characters rarely felt like real people to me. Their reactions were exaggerated, the dialogue often felt unnatural, and everything seemed designed to create a "romantic moment" rather than develop believable relationships.
And the romance... I just couldn't take it seriously. Mia and Aidan have known each other for only a few months, become friends with benefits, and suddenly Mia is talking about how their romantic relationship might be fake but their friendship isn't. She then gets extremely upset because he didn't tell her that his mother has Huntington's disease. I completely understand being hurt that someone didn't trust you enough to share something so personal, but the reaction felt wildly disproportionate considering how little time they'd actually known each other.
Especially because Mia herself spends the entire book refusing to tell Aidan her real name. "Mia" is apparently a nickname, and Aidan repeatedly tries to guess her real name. This is treated as a little mystery throughout the book. And guess what? **Her real name is never revealed.** Did miss it?! Please anyone, if I did let me know because, swear when I finished it, I went back to recheck! Anyway, apparently he is supposed to be a terrible friend for keeping one deeply personal secret while she can literally keep her legal name secret from him for the entire book.
The magical world-building was also incredibly frustrating. We're told that magic needs to be protected and that people can't simply be told about it; they have to discover it themselves. Yet Aidan eventually tells Mia about the magic, Ophelia is there, and instead of being angry about this massive violation of the rule, she basically confirms that the magic is real. Then... nothing happens. So what exactly were they protecting magic from?
And then there's the Resonant ability, which could actually have been an interesting magical concept — someone who can intensify another person's magic. Unfortunately, in this book it seems to be primarily an excuse for yet more spicy scenes. There are several of them, and by the fourth one I was just skipping the pages. I really wish books like this would make it clear when they contain explicit sexual content, because I would never have picked it up expecting that.
There is also an astonishing amount of filler. Conversations and scenes often seemed to exist simply to make the book longer rather than because they contributed anything meaningful to the story. Even the supposedly magical elements — talking animals, enchanted objects, pumpkins arguing with people — felt more like cute gimmicks than parts of a properly developed fantasy world.
And I kept waiting for an actual plot to appear.
It never really did.
By the end, I was reading purely because I **refuse to DNF books**. This is probably one of the few books where I seriously considered breaking that rule.

The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery by Ella Cook is the kind of cozy fantasy romance that makes you want to curl up under a blanket, light a fall candle, grab a cinnamon roll, and disappear into a magical little town for a few hours.
Aiden comes to Hudsbury hoping for a little peace and a fresh start, but instead he finds himself pulled into a wonderfully strange bakery where cinnamon, baked goods, and magic seem to go hand in hand. Before long, this supposed “bad boy” is becoming the town’s newest baker—and discovering that Hudsbury might have plans for him that he never expected.
Then there’s Mia, the practical local nurse who brings such a wonderful balance to Aiden. I loved their chemistry because their relationship begins playfully and casually, with a friends-with-benefits arrangement that is definitely not supposed to involve feelings. Of course, feelings have other plans. Watching their teasing, attraction, friendship, and emotional connection slowly become something neither of them can ignore was one of my favorite parts of the story.
But the romance isn’t the only thing that stole my heart. Hudsbury itself feels like a character. There are whispering trees, enchanted teas, mischievous jack-o’-lanterns giving romantic advice, and a mysterious grey cat named Mist who completely steals the show. The magic is whimsical rather than overwhelming, giving the entire story that comforting feeling of wondering whether something extraordinary might be hiding inside an ordinary little town.
I also loved watching Aiden discover another side of himself through baking and magic. Underneath his confident, flirtatious exterior is someone carrying much more than he initially reveals. Aiden comes to Hudsbury hoping for a little peace and a fresh start, but instead he finds himself pulled into a wonderfully strange bakery where cinnamon, baked goods, and magic seem to go hand in hand. Before long, this supposed “bad boy” is becoming the town’s newest baker—and discovering that Hudsbury might have plans for him that he never expected.
Then there’s Mia, the practical local nurse who brings such a wonderful balance to Aiden. I loved their chemistry because their relationship begins playfully and casually, with a friends-with-benefits arrangement that is definitely not supposed to involve feelings. Of course, feelings have other plans. Watching their teasing, attraction, friendship, and emotional connection slowly become something neither of them can ignore was one of my favorite parts of the story.
But the romance isn’t the only thing that stole my heart. Hudsbury itself feels like a character. There are whispering trees, enchanted teas, mischievous jack-o’-lanterns giving romantic advice, and a mysterious grey cat named Mist who completely steals the show. The magic is whimsical rather than overwhelming, giving the entire story that comforting feeling of wondering whether something extraordinary might be hiding inside an ordinary little town.
I also loved watching Aiden discover another side of himself through baking and magic. Underneath his confident, flirtatious exterior is someone carrying much more than he initially reveals. I am a longtime romance lover, and every now and then I enjoy picking up a book that adds a little magic to the romance. The combination of a cozy small-town setting, witches, and a friends-to-lovers romance immediately caught my attention. I will admit that the title gave me a different impression of what the story would be, but once I settled into the actual story, I found myself enjoying the world the author created.
One of my favorite things about this book was the cast of characters. I liked Aiden and Mia right away, and I especially enjoyed watching their friendship develop before it became something more. Aiden initially comes across as a carefree bad boy, but it quickly becomes clear that there is much more going on beneath the surface. As more of his backstory is revealed, I found myself understanding many of his choices, even when I did not necessarily agree with them. Mia was also easy to root for. She knows what she wants out of life and relationships, and I appreciated that she was willing to stand her ground when it mattered.
The magical elements added a lot of charm to the story. Mist the cat was definitely a standout character, and the enchanted pumpkins brought some fun and whimsy to the book as well. I also enjoyed the found-family feel that developed among several of the characters. The magic never overshadowed the romance, but instead helped create a cozy atmosphere that fit the story perfectly.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It balanced romance, friendship, family struggles, and magical elements in a way that kept me invested. A magical shop? Give me twenty books like that I love them but here, it’s our MMC who has the magic, so I can say the whole book centers on him, and that’s why I was so surprised. His story is good and well-written: a playboy who left everything behind to become the baker at a small shop in a small town that holds a secret or two. He meets our FMC, and everything falls into place for him. To be honest, the romance happened a little too quickly, but I liked it. There’s some drama here and there that made me roll my eyes a few times, but in the end, it was a good story, full of magic, love, and a beautiful found family that I didn’t even know I needed.

This was such a cosy, feel-good read, full of warmth, charm, magic, and romance. It had exactly the kind of small-town atmosphere I love, and Hudsbury felt so alive from the very beginning. I especially loved the magical touch to Aiden’s baked goods, which made the bakery setting feel even more comforting and enchanting 🍞🪄
I really loved Aiden and Mia together 💕 Their banter was one of my favourite parts of the book, and I loved the way their relationship started as friends with benefits before slowly becoming something much deeper. Their chemistry felt playful, sweet, and full of heart, and I found myself completely rooting for them.
There were so many little moments between them that made me smile 🥰 I loved Aiden calling Mia “Princess,” and I thought his attempts to guess her real name were such a fun and charming part of their dynamic. I also loved how Aiden complimented Mia, freckles and all. It felt so sweet and genuine, and I loved the way he noticed and appreciated the little things about her.
I also loved the fake emergency check-in during her date, just in case she needed an excuse to leave 😂 It was funny, thoughtful, and showed how much he cared about her feeling safe and comfortable.
Another thing I really loved was how Mia was with Sylvie and how she supported Aiden with her care.
One of my favourite things about the story was how Hudsbury uses magic to sway and influence the lives of its residents ✨ I loved the idea of the town gently nudging people toward where they are meant to be. The Cinnamon Spellbook Bakery is just one of those stories you can immerse yourself in the magic of it all. The way the author uses language to describe the fragrant spelled baked goods and hot drinks is like you are sat in front of a fire with a warm drink on a winters day. Its just cosy.
The book centres around Aiden, a player, new to Hudsbury and finding himself working in a shop which seems rather magical - where he discovers his talent for baking. Mia - a customer - not only becomes a taste tester, but also his best friend - or will it be more?
I loved the excitement of this book, I love to read stories which are set in our world with a sprinkle of magic thrown in. It makes it seem realistic, like it could happen. I also loved both Aiden and Mia's characters, they are characters I could be friends with and wanted to know more about.
I do feel this book was spice heavy. I'm not normally one for spicy books, but don't mind it if the suspense is built well and there is a need for it. This story had no suspense, the romance was from the get go.
Whilst I liked the personality of the characters, it felt difficult to connect with them because of how the book was written. There was no POV of Aiden or Mia, so no way to tell how they were feeling, so I felt disconnected from them at times.
I also really disliked the pumpkins. I did think this made the book more YA themed, which then went completely the other direction with the spice - so it was very unbalanced.
I also don't think the title quite fits the book?

What starts with an unusual bakery and a little bit of enchantment slowly grows into a story about healing, found family, and opening your heart again. I really liked that the magic wasn't there just for the sake of it—it felt woven into the town, the bakery, and the people who lived there. The talking cat, enchanted pumpkins, and spellbook bakery added a lot of charm without taking away from the emotional side of the story.
