On His Campus: A Second Chance College Hockey Romance

Rate this book
The Hawthorne House has five rules.
Number One is Don’t Fall In Love.
Easy.
Then my first love walked into a Hawthorne House party.

Melly was supposed to stay in my past.
The girl I left.
The girl I never deserved.

Now she’s at Camden U.
In my house.
On my campus.
And ruining every plan I had for this season.

I have a team watching.
And one rule I can’t afford to break.

Then I learned she has a boyfriend,
New friends,
And no intention of looking my way.

I thought avoiding her was for the best.
I’ve spent years pretending I could live without her.

But she walked into my house,
And suddenly, the rule wasn’t the problem anymore.

For fans of Elle Kennedy, On His Campus is a slow-burn second-chance college hockey romance with a hero who yearns for his girl. This is book two in the Boys of Hawthorne House series. It can be read as a standalone, but reading in order is recommended.

This book is so freaking good! I started and finished it within 24 hours! The way I cried when Melly thought her feelings were delusional and how she thought she may be crazy for how she feels about Blue! This college hocket romance has turned into one of my favorites! Melly has loved Blue since she was in the sixth grade and has felt since then that he didn't even so much as like her. They connect at a party one night, then he leaves for college without a single word. The texts she sends him go unanswered and she feels all hope is lost. Then one night at a party she walks right into his life and he cant handle it anymore. He's grumpy, she's weary. The heartbreak you feel in your chest, the chills you get during a certain confession. The hit neither of them saw coming. 10/10 HIGHLY recommend!

No plot and terrible dialogue

Literally nothing happened the entire book.. Melly was pathetic and Blue was a jerk with no good reason why he treated her so poorly for years. He didn’t deserve her at all. The dialogue was nonexistent so their story just doesn’t make sense. If it weren’t for the group of friends they wouldn’t have even spoken with each other let alone gotten together. Book seems like it was written by AI or a child.

Another hit.

Once again, Kate Olivia has made magic. What does a girl do when she has been in love with the same boy since sixth grade? She prays, waits, tries to move on, but can't.

Melly has been obsessed with Blue, to the point of near humiliation. As a college junior, she comes to Camden U with a boyfriend of two year who she knows she doesn't love. Across a crowded party she sees Blue and is lost again.

She breaks off her relationship, knowing she can't continue the lie. She expects nothing. Blue has been running away from her since high school. It's time to move on. However, Blue finally realizes she's the one and he's going to stop being afraid of this love.

Its a sweet love story about finally looking fear in the face and saying yes anyway.

Ok so at first I was really enjoying the plot and characters but as it went on it started to feel a bit tedious to get thru. At times I really appreciated the writing style but other times it was like this: “my shirt is blue. I love blue. So does he. It’s his name. And the color of my eyes. Blue is our color. I love blue.” And it made me want to just start skipping around to get back to the meat of the story. Also the mmc and fmc had I think 3 conversations total before they said I love you and became bf/gf, and one of them she was drunk for and didn’t even remember. I understand they have history but I would’ve liked more context, not just that she was obsessed and he was a coward. Why was he a coward? How did he actually feel about her? In the years they didn’t talk, how did he grow to not be a coward? Did she learn how to be more discerning about love and relationships? Like I have no idea. I did really like the girl group and the guys on the team, it felt realistic to how college is. I just wish we got more of both characters personalities bc I really loved the concept of the book, but it just fell sort of flat for me. Will be reading the others tho! Maybe this one just wasn’t for me

I didn’t hate this book, but it did not live up to its potential. I ignored the ratings because I loved the synopsis! However, the repetition was hard to get around. It felt like almost every chapter had the same loop. There was a lot of context between the lines that I wish the author elaborated further on or structured a little better. I personally wish the last 25% of the book was the majority.

I thought the story sounded interesting however it wasn’t a hit for me. I did push myself to finish it so that’s a win in itself. Story was very repetitive, like someone else mentioned Melly is completely pathetic character and Blue is a complete ahole to her in highschool. Honestly there’s not even a viable story, I mean they finally getting together and living their best life’s and making up for how crappy of a guy Blue was. Personally I didn’t like it, unfortunately

false advertising. THIS IS NOT “HE FALLS FIRST AND HARDER”

Ok let me start by saying that I only wanted to read this book because it was supposed to be “he falls first” and what I got what’s totally the opposite, she was an annoying obsessive stalker for their whole life, and then she uses for two years a good man to “forget” about the MMC, never happened. She only needed to see him once to dump her boyfriend and going back to be pathetic with no self respect.

3 ⭐️

I enjoyed this read, but felt the main female character came off a bit crazy about the guy. Almost to the point of being creepy. She even calls out that she romanticizing him, but can’t get over her obsession. Also, Blue’s change of heart (or rather his acceptance of love) was a bit abrupt after all that time acting like it didn’t exist.

The story line is okay. There were missing words, format was not consistent, but the banter was funny. However, very juvenile story. Blues reasoning was very childish and I was expecting more push back from melly. He didn’t even explain to her anything which was disappointing. I think if the story got cleaned up and was reviewed more, it could be a decent story.

Melly & Blue

Definitely a slowwww burn, very little spice…but super cute! Lots of yearning and most of the books is the characters conflicted about giving into each other. I wish there was more once Melly and blue got together.

Got duped by Tik tok to read this trash. Terrible writing, I found several errors in the actual text. The FMC is awful, instantly forgave this loser who told her he loved her. Should have DNFed but hate finished.

came for the plot

The first half of the story had me hooked but it’s like once they got together, the story was rushed. There were also grammatical errors that made it hard to understand at times. Still super cute story & plot.

Great Read!

I'm so happy the second book not only had a fun new story line for Melly and Blue but also kept up with Benson and Lucy's love story. I can't wait to see what book 3 is about!

Overall, this book was entertaining. Its not the most exciting plot, but did have some interesting aspects. I got kind of tired of the sister but that works itself out. Definitely not a bad time.

Blue’s reasoning for “bullying” Melly and not letting himself be with her was kinda skirted over and not really explained?? Also was hoping for more drama with her ex but it’s okay. Still enjoyed!

Melly and Blue are cute. But I definitely don’t see the he fell first and harder troupe that this was advertised as. And the ending was a little bland.
