God took David from the fields where he followed the sheep to become the ruler of Israel. He was overlooked by his father, yet chosen by God. He carried the dream to be king from the day Samuel anointed him, but he did not feel worthy to marry the king’s daughter after defeating Goliath. David experienced many amazing moments in his life, yet he also endured many traumas. He was the hero of Israel and then became the hunted villain. He went from leading the armies of Israel to being pursued by the same. When David was anointed king in Judah, civil war erupted. Each step that God was establishing David’s identity, the enemy was trying to steal it. Defeating Goliath required faith, but taking the throne required identity. It takes a Goliath to reveal a David, and his journey to produce a king. Faith believes what God can do. Identity believes what God can do through you. Let David’s journey touch yours. “Dale has done a masterful job presenting life-transforming truths. His revelation concerning identity as the key to progressively advancing is enlightening and enabling. This book added new insights and encouragement to my life.” —Dr. Bill Hamon “This book is a treasure. It is a deeper study of David’s life. This book is an excellent resource. I highly recommend Dale and this book.” —Dr. Randy Clark
I liked this book, but wished it had stuck more to the life and story of King David. When Mast does write about David and Saul, Goliath and other Biblical characters, the reading gets interesting. I get the connection to David's identity with our own, the challenges and oppositions we all face, but at times the author tended to go off on a sermon like rant that took me out of the connection with David's story. Although the content was good, it needed paring down. Mast does begin many chapters with Biblical quotes from the story of David. If he hadn't digressed so much, the pacing and flow would have greatly improved. I did gain many insights through Mast's writing, but at times, I lost interest a bit. 3.5 rounded to a 4.
I love the call to action on being still and knowing God in each season and the honor that David had towards people who did not honor him(Saul). David had many disappointments yet God shaped David through the valley and placed people along the way to remind him of his God given identity. The praise at the end is so beautiful because David perceived he was king but not by his own doing but through God! Thanks for the incredible read👏
This book is well written and builds precept upon precept. I have highlighted so much throughout the book for there are real pearls of wisdom I don’t want to forget. This is a must read for anyone wanting assurance of their identity in God and any Christian to understand the journey to stepping into their purpose and destiny. An easy but profound read. Highly recommend.
This is by far one of the best books ever written. The revelation it entails is life-changing. I’m so amazed at the wisdom God has poured into Mr. Mast and the humility he walks in. That balance of confidence in God to walk in identity and still maintaining such humility should be a goal of every believer. Thank you, Mr Mast, may God bless you forever. I’ve bought all his books now and watching everything on YT that I can possibly find.
This book is excellent! The life of David, is a beautiful example of “a man after God’s own heart” though he was imperfect. If you know you have a God given destiny, but struggle to walk in it, this book will give you keys to step into your calling, through challenges and doubt, and stay there. How God sees us, outweighs all else.
Solid read on identity in light of God’s identity and His plans for each person. Deep look at Why the Bible calls David a man after God’s heart. David was a worshiper, warrior and wife of God. Thankful this book is based on biblical truths.
Knowing our identity in Him is the key to our destiny!
This was a great read. It helps the believer understand today everything we are called to do we will not able to do unless we know 2 things 1. Who we are in Him our identity and 2. When we know our identity we know it came from Him. One of YNt best reads I have read in a very long time.
Lots of good thoughts here. I highlighted many passages. However, the editing was not good. I found many missing words in sentences and some punctuation and capitalizations were incorrect.
There are so many truths in this book that I basically highlighted most of it. I had to read it in short sections in order to digest it fully. Like a sumptuous meal for my spiritual man!
God used this book to turn my thinking of myself to how he sees me. We are not what the world says we are but what God says we are. It doesn’t matter what season we are in we need to keep our eyes on Jesus! And let God direct our path.
This book is a download from Heaven and dripping with revelation about identity. I wanted a book that would help me understand identity and self esteem from a spiritual perspective and this is. Highly recommend!
