It's Pre-Flashpoint, late 20s, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon VS Flashpoint Hawkman and Hawkwoman because reasons. Really, really silly reasons. But anyhoo... In the first of a two issue Convergence event, we get the chance to explore the lives of Oracle and Nightwing once again. We get to see some endearing moments between these two characters, and it’s rewarding to see this version of the characters celebrated once more. They have so much history together and Gail Simone does a masterful job of referencing that but also moving the narrative forward. I hadn't realized ow much I had missed *these* characters. Simone also digs into the psychological ramifications of the insane premise behind Convergence, and she lends a great deal of plausibility to it.
This is a rating for part 1 and 2. This was the best convergence story I’ve read, which isn’t saying too much. But I actually liked the narrative style. Gail Simone to the rescue. The art and layout was pleasing, though is it a nitpick to say that this book has 4 redheads and they all have the same face? Confusing. Also the ending was weird given the timeline. So they’re in the middle of a battle royale and she managed to get all her family and friends together for a fancy wedding? Is this cutting forward to after the conflict is won? And how does Oracle the all knowing not know she’s been selected as a fighter when the dome goes down? Even Stephanie Brown, the village idiot, knew because she watches the news. Still a fun, self-contained comic where the villains are just a contrivance for the main characters to work through their internal issues.

Among the many Convergence titles I have read, this might be the best. It brings back the pre-Flashpoint Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon aka Nightwing and Oracle. Both of them were big fan favorites back in the day and it's good to see this version of them again. The story by Gail Simone does them justice as Dick and Barbara have grown closer together in their domed Gotham City, where once fearsome villains like Mr. Freeze has given into despair. Not so our heroes who continue to keep the city safe. But when they are pitted against Hawkman and Hawkwoman in a battle for survival, things take a surprising turn when their opponents make an offer that will spare Gotham from annihilation-an offer that comes with a hefty price. Simone ends the issue on a cliffhanger that will surely please the many fans of this unique dynamic duo.
This might be one of my favorites so far. There is a lot going on here besides the dome that make it more worthwhile. Also, this one gives a glimpse of what has happened to someone else who already had to fight to save themselves. This answers the question, is it just one fight? Nope. You get to keep going to try to save your world! The story here is more character driven, which is the kind I prefer. Great story.
This one was interesting from both sides, which is difficult to accomplish. It was a tad textbox heavy for my taste, but at least I understand why it happened.
