It’s a truly compelling and gripping story. I read the book in one sitting. I highly recommend it. I can’t wait for Gülçin Bozkurt Bal’s next book to come out.

I read this in a single day, and the last few pages standing up in my kitchen. At 147 pages, it's a short read, and the author doesn't waste a single sentence.

It follows a Turkish man sent to prison for murder who teaches himself the law from the inside, working part-time at the courthouse during his sentence, and slowly turns that hard-won knowledge into a second life on the other side of the system, as a detective.

Short enough to finish in an afternoon, but it stayed with me a lot longer than that. Highly recommended.

It's rare for me to finish a book in a single day. This book was marketed as a crime thriller, a genre I'm generally skeptical of. However, it doesn't read like a generic detective story. The storyline isn't predictable by any means and the flow of the writing keeps you engaged without you realizing how far you've come in the book. It's filled with complex yet beautiful family dynamics, historical anecdotes and gripping action scenes. I was on the edge of my seat as I read the beautifully written chaos of the moment that changed the lives of two men. The author's ability to craft such a vivid and compelling scene came as no surprise when I researched her and found out that she is also a screenwriter. I am disappointed that this is her only published novel so far... I hope I'll have the chance to read another of her works soon.

Also want to give a shout-out to Mahmut, he was my favorite character and he deserved better.
