CONOR: Dragons of Claddare

Rate this book
Lyra is a White Witch in the distant countryside of the land. She tends her herbs and does healing and small spells for the nearby village and dreams of a different life. When the legendary dragon riders of Claddare fly overhead she watches them, longing to soar the skies just once. She wishes for one of them to swoop down and carry her away from her humdrum existence to their Fortress but knows fairy tales aren’t meant to come true.
Conor is the Commander of the Western Fortress Dragon Riders. When he’s severely injured in an assassination attempt far from home, his dragon brings him to the cottage of the nearest healer. Lyra cares for him while his dragon goes to fetch help. When Conor’s men come to rescue him, he takes Lyra with him. The attraction between them is undeniable.
Once at the Fortress Lyra isn’t sure why Conor insisted she had to be there. Life in the dragon riders’ home isn’t exactly the fairy tale she imagined and there are plots and problems on every side. She’s falling in love with her patient but he gives her conflicting signals about his feelings for her. Conor’s never before contemplated asking a woman to be his one and only, to take the title of Commander’s Lady and bond with him and his dragon. His hesitation to declare his love leaves an opening for agents of the Shadow to sweep in and threaten Lyra. Will Conor place everything on the line to save the woman he’s come to realize he can’t live without?
Find out in Conor (Dragons of Claddare).
This 47K word novel takes place in my established fantasy world of Claddare and is a standalone with an HEA.

Lyra practices white magic and lives in a cottage in the countryside. As a white witch, she lives her life embodying the mantra, “Do no harm.” For as long as she can remember, she watches as the dragon riders of Claddare fly overhead. Her heart yearns to fly on a dragon. When a dragon rider is almost killed, his dragon lands next to her cottage and pleads for her help as a healer. Conor is Commander of the Western Fortress Dragon Riders. She heals him and when it’s time, he commands her to come along. Once at the Fortress, Lyra befriends Conor’s sister and gets to know Conor better. She uncovers a plot to kill Conor and warns him. The more time they spend together, the deeper she falls in love. She knows their time is fleeting but quickly learns she’s a target. Will Lyra be used by Conor’s enemies to get what they want, or will Conor protect her and make her his lady for all time?

Conor is a breathtaking fantasy romance I couldn’t put down. There is nothing I love more in fantasy than dragons and dragon riders. Veronica Scott has penned a truly intoxicating romantasy. The world-building is flawless. The descriptive narration is so detailed, I was able to envision every scene. The attraction between Conor and Lyra is instant and undeniable. The opposites attract trope is in play here and I loved every minute of it. Veronica Scott has outdone herself with this book. I am hoping she will write a whole series around this book. If you love dragon rider romantasy, you need to pick up this book right now.
