Okay, this was an amazing story, until it wasn't.
First of all, I don't like giving negative reviews, but this book is marketed at dark Christian, so I want people to know what they were getting into.
I LOVED the main characters so much. Ridge is the mmc who wants nothing to do with Jesus because his father, who was a pastor, twisted the word of God and abused (including raped) his mother, and later abused him. Ridge later meets Audra, a beautiful Christian girl, and falls head over heels (despite her being a Christian). He is such a man of character, he's protective and respects Audra's beliefs and boundaries. Their conversations about God were so relatable, and I loved how even though he struggled with believing in God's goodness, he was open minded and asked a lot of questions. Their relationship developed so sweetly.
However, things take a very dark turn when Audra's ex, Ethan, shows back up (you read about him in the beginning of the book). Ethan kidnaps and rapes her, leaves her naked, and then when Ridge shows up to rescue her, she's tied to a bed and being raped AGAIN.
At this point, all of this sexual violence feels like it's being done for shock value. It really took away from the beautiful story of their relationship and Ridge coming to learn who Jesus really is. I don't have a problem with the dark things in the world, but this was definitely excessive.
The other part I didn't like as a no-spice reader, is that at one point Audra and Ridge are getting hot & heavy on the couch, and she said that she could feel him harden beneath her. Is that overtly explicit? No. But does that cause the reader (who is essentially imagining this story in their head) to think about Ridge's penis? Yes. This isn't where we want our minds going.
Overall, I was absolutely obsessed with this story, until it took such a drastic turn.

I was so very excited when I saw this book advertised as a dark romance but with Christian elements. I didn’t know how she would do it but couldn’t wait to read it. The short answer is, she didn’t. This was a Fiction Christian book with trauma scattered throughout. The writing felt off, like she had a word number count she had to hit so instead of using contractions where it made sense she didn’t. The story was lacking and didn’t make sense to some degree. I did enjoy the Christian elements and themes but all in all this book just wasn’t for me.

I would first like to say that I really enjoyed this book. Although I have a lot to say and most of it is criticism, I think the Author did a pretty good job considering this is her first romance book. I loved the characters, and the faith each of them have. It is hard to find a good Christian romance book.
There were some spelling errors, and a ton of run on sentences. I couldn’t even tell you how many there were. It got to the point to where I had to take multiple breaks because, it was just run on sentences over and over. I really do think this book wasn’t ready to be published quite yet. There were so many little things in the story that make no sense to me. The Author has said (she said on a TikTok comment) that some confusion will be cleared up in the second book. I really think the author should look into a good editor, and some ARC readers.
As I said before, I did like this book. I wish I could give it more than 2/5 stars but with how many grammatical errors, and with how many things contradict themselves in the book. I unfortunately can’t give it a higher rating. I mean no harm to the author, this is just my personal opinion.

“After 12 years of this….”
This part confused me. Ridge has not been physically abused for all 12 years of his life. His father’s abuse started when he was 10.
Chapter 32 page 152
“Of course I am not answering any of his texts because they have been nothing but disrespectful….”
Honestly when I found out Ethan was still texting Audra I was confused. This is the first time that it is mentioned, I really feel like him texting her should have been mentioned sooner.
Chapter 34 page 160
“Warmth fills me with how amazing of a boyfriend that I have…..”
When did they officially become boyfriend and girlfriend? I can’t remember them asking each other, and they have only been on one date.
Chapter 35 page 161-164
This chapter Audra spends most of the time in her head, thinking about everything that has been going on. I felt like an update to how she was feeling and handling everything. Which was good. The only thing that confused me about this chapter was that I didn’t know where Audra was. I thought maybe she was in her room. Turns out she is at the fellowship center. She starts talking to her mom. It casually mentions she’s waiting to pass out cookies she made. I thought she was at the table with everyone else. My conclusion after reading this chapter over about 2 times was that she was in the kitchen with her mom. This was really hard to figure out.
Chapter 36 page 166
“I think that’s a good my dad is also growing to love him as well. He and Ridge go to coffee multiple times a week….”
In the previous chapter it was already mentioned that Ridge and Audra’s dad get coffee a couple times throughout the week to discuss Jesus. I feel like it’s unnecessary to mention it again.
Chapter 38 page 172
“…but yet again my clumsiness gets the best of me, and I fall to the ground”
This is the first time Audra is mentioned to be clumsy. If she really is clumsy we should have known sooner or seen sooner. She has fallen 3 times this chapter, the first two times she fell I didn’t think anything was off about it. But her falling for a third time?? It just feels unnecessary to me. I understand that a little farther down the page Roman uses Audra falling for a third time as a reason on how he didn’t cause her to fall. But I can’t help but think, if I walked into a room and saw my best friend helping my significant other off the floor. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that my best friend had caused my significant other to fall. I understand that Ridge has a traumatic background, and that’s he is very protective over Audra. But it doesn’t make sense to me. (At the beginning of chapter 39 Roman states that Ridge was experiencing a PTSD event, this makes more sense to me on why Ridge freaked out. I really wish we were able to see what happened through Ridge’s perspective.) Also, was anyone else there to witness what had happened? There’s nothing saying that it was just the three of them there. There is also no mention of everyone who was at the party leaving.
Chapter 42 page 193
“Henderson sighs and shakes his head….”
When did the officer introduce himself? Before this he was referred to as “the officer”.
“We have been answering domestic violence calls against your father so many times, but your mother never wanted to press charges”
In chapter 41 page 185 it says that Ridges mom had to leave her phone in the kitchen so she couldn’t call 911 during an abusive episode. So who called 911? A neighbor?
Chapter 63 page 270
“There wasn’t even a time that the cops were called to our house for a domestic noise complaint”
This contradicts what was said on page 193!! Clearly states that there were no domestic calls made, when it has said on page 193 that there had been domestic calls made.
Chapter 44 page 199
“…answering whoever is on the other line and leaving the room.”
When did Audra get off of Ridges lap? It doesn’t mention her getting off of his lap at all.
Chapter 46 page 205
“I just told them through my fathers phone that he is very sick and that per doctors orders he needs to take a couple weeks off”
When did Ridge get his father’s phone? Ridge is in custody of the police, on a murder charge. There’s no way Ridge would have had any access to any devices. This doesn’t make sense at all.
Chapter 50 page 221
Ethan’s grin, laugh, and gaze, have both been described as “evil”. I understand the thought process behind this, although I really feel like there’s a better way to describe it. When I think of an evil grin, laugh, or gaze I honestly think of a kids cartoon villain. It feels excessive to use evil three times in the same chapter. There are so many other good words that could have been used.
Chapter 51 page 228
Ridges mom is in the middle of getting treatment from when she tried to off herself…and yet he’s looking at his phone? I understand his concern with how he and Audra left things. But what?!
Chapter 54 page 240
“Audra wouldn’t drink my glass of water when she tracks how much she drinks.”
This is the first time we are told that Audra keeps track of how much water she drinks. I really feel like this should have been mentioned towards the beginning of the book, not near the end. I understand it’s a small detail, but it still matters.
Chapter 62 page 266
“Am I just here as a sex slave for Ethan?”
I understand Audra is experiencing something very traumatic. But two pages ago she already compared herself to a sex slave for him. So it being said a second time feels unnecessary.

SPOILERS!! Okay so I WANTED to like this book. I’m pretty sure this is her debut book, so I’m giving plenty of grace. I hope she understands my feedback is to help because GIRL the potential is there! I like the story line and overall theme a lot. But honestly, the first half of the book was hard to get through and I almost DNF’d but I really wanted to give it a shot. I had been waiting for its release for so long (great TikTok marketing, girl!) It was very repetitive and….idk patchy? Like Audra was falling so hard for Ridge but we BARELY saw any interaction between them. It was all off page and mentioned in a narrative “we had been talking a lot” kind of way. I would have loved to see more of their interactions that lead to them falling so hard. The lack of on page interaction makes their love story seem, rushed and honestly juvenile. Like how a teenager would go from zero to one hundred after just one convo, but these are grown adults. Once ridge went on his mission and we got more true interactions, then the story flowed more and felt more real. A lot of details were reiterated throughout the first half, sometimes more than once. I can’t remember exactly when but at one point I had to double check I didn’t click the wrong page direction and was rereading a paragraph. At about 60% through was when I finally was hooked enough to finish. Then it just ENDED mid scene. True cliffhanger. It’s not my favorite kind of ending, which I know is 100% personal preference, but still just made me slam the kindle down with an “UGHHHHH” just after midnight lol
As for the biblical aspect… I love having realistic, imperfect Christians in books. It makes the characters easy to connect with. However, I do feel some of the biblical messages were…. theologically incorrect? I found myself just shrugging and saying “well that’s not how I understand the Bible” and moving on. The best example would be when Audra goes to her Dad about her feelings for Ridge. A true Christian leader (and father) wouldn’t encourage her to pursue Ridge until he found his faith. He would have encouraged her to take a step back, give each other some space, to pray for him and protect her heart. Now, she doesn’t have to take that advice (which would have been more realistic and emphasized the imperfect Christian storyline). Just kind of rubbed me wrong, as a Christian. But I guess we all interpret the Bible differently so, I just moved along.
The spice is something to note too. It’s not smutty or explicit, but the “I felt him harden beneath me” was a little jarring to read in a Christian romance novel. I’m no prude, so it wasn’t offensive to me or anything. It was just unexpected in the context of this book. I guess I’m a former smut reader that’s been reading ALOT of closed door books lately and I prefer the demure approach. Just personal preference.
At the end, I did enjoy it and will be impatiently waiting for book 2.

Wow! This book was more than just a story.
I understood that this book was more than just your typical dark romance and I was ready to go all in. I was not disappointed.
The book ends on a cliffhanger--a hurtful one at that. The journey was not an easy one but I loved seeing Ridge and Audra's journey/walk with God throughout it all. It's obviously not the end and their journey is still an ongoing one but I felt it...I felt every question, every doubt, every stumble, every emotion...every prayer. I felt everything!
I will say that there were some parts where the writing would throw me off for a moment but it's the path and connection I felt in the story that kept me with the characters and God every step of the way.
"And isn’t that what James was trying to explain to me when it comes to grace? It’s the fact that there isn’t a single person on this earth that could earn their way to heaven. That the whole reason that what Christ did on the cross was so life changing - literally - is because He took all God’s wrath on Himself, the only perfect man, so that we could stand blameless before God Himself."
There was plenty of highlighting throughout my reading. There were things that I already had knowledge about broken down so thoughtfully and precise that it opened my eyes even wider to those facts--because although this story is fiction, there are facts written on those pages.
"I couldn’t imagine the wrath that a good God would feel over a creation that He not only created but loves and watching them harm and hurt one another. And Jesus took all that wrath on Himself for someone like me."
I felt my own personal connection with God thicken as I read and I think that is what makes reading so worthwhile. Being able to connect with not only the characters but grow in faith, in this instance, is what you seek as a Christian reader. This book marked all the boxes for a Christian dark romance. It was most definitely worth the read and I'm truly looking forward to the next book.

Want a book that not only glories God but has the same feel as one of those books you read before building your relationship with Jesus? This is it. This gives all of the feels books did before I jumped feet first into my relationship with God. I had been looking for something to bring me back to reading but didn’t want to be tempted into reading something that I shouldn’t. While the plot could be heavy(see trigger warnings) it also had so much light to shine.
This book explores a nonbeliever and believers path together. It answered questions I didn’t even know I had. I referenced my Bible a few times, and did some side by side reading, and praying. I truly feel that the way Bailey explains things here brought me so much closer to God in a way I didn’t think was possible from reading a dark romance novel.
200/10 would recommend for the plot and for the Jesus! I am obsessed, and can’t wait to read the sequel! 🙌

This was such a unique blend of dark romance, psychological thriller, and faith-based themes. I was impressed by how the author wove Christian elements into a suspenseful story without it feeling forced or preachy.
The story kept me turning pages with plenty of unexpected twists and reveals that I genuinely didn't see coming. I especially connected with Audra and found myself invested in her journey, struggles, and growth throughout the book and the MMC, Ridge, is definitely swoon worthy!
Overall it was an engaging and entertaining read and that ending... what a cliffhanger! I immediately wanted book two in my hands.
If you enjoy dark romance with suspense, mystery, emotional depth, and faith woven throughout the story, this one is definitely worth checking out. It will make you ask yourself some deep questions. I'm excited to see where the author takes these characters next!

Arc review! Okay so I’m gonna be honest, that cliffhanger had me gasping for air. Couldn’t believe I was left hanging like that but knowing this is a duet makes me feel better lol! The story really sped up around the halfway point and then I couldn’t put it down. I like how this book doesn’t tip toe around the hard stuff. Although not super detailed, you get insight on their trauma. For a dark Christian romance, I appreciated how this story wasn’t just sunshine and rainbows. I like how it shows God faithfulness in even the most darkest of situations. Audra and Ridge have a ways to go, but I thoroughly enjoyed their character development with each other. Looking forward to reading the second one after that cliffhanger. Thank you so much for the arc reading opportunity!

Every chapter had me completely hooked, and you can feel the passion, effort, and emotion woven into every page. While the story tackles some very dark topics, real life can be dark too. Being a Christian doesn't mean bad things won't happen, and I appreciated how honestly that reality was portrayed.
I think Bailey did a fantastic job creating an emotional, intense story that kept me invested from beginning to end. If you love dark romance filled with obsession, tension, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters that stay with you long after you've finished the book, this is definitely one to add to your TBR. 🖤

This book was AMAZING! I love thriller, mystery, suspense books and having one that was focused on Christ but real to what some people have been through was amazing! I cannot wait for people to get their hands on this book and I cannot wait for the sequel! The cliffhanger at the end had me gasping and being mad that I have to wait for the next one haha! Bailey really showcases her love for Jesus, makes Jesus accessible and also shows that it is normal to doubt and have questions! Super grateful to have received an advance copy and cannot wait to read her next books!

This book is everything that a Christian girl wants in a book, who may be new to Christian fiction and/or has felt convicted about reading spicy books and is looking for darker themes, but with it all pointing back to Jesus Christ! I haven’t read a book this fast in years, and I am hooked. I love the military element, the beautiful love story that seems like it could also be real, and the dark twists. I cannot wait for book two! Read this book…you will not be disappointed 🫶🏻

This book completely hooked me from the very first page. I finished it way too fast because I couldn’t put it down! It’s the perfect blend of dark romance and Christian themes, beautifully capturing God’s grace, unconditional love, and the real struggles people face. The story is powerful, engaging, and meaningful for both believers and non-believers. I honestly didn’t want it to end and can’t wait for Book 2. Bailey, thank you for writing such a phenomenal story!

The cliffhanger!?!? I need more!!!
I thought that this was a good take on dark romance with Christian aspects. I’ve never seen that before so I was so excited to read this.
I was cheering for Ridge the whole time to be able to trust God again.
I will admit that there were a lot of grammatical errors and spelling errors, which is why it got marked down on my review.

From the first chapter I was hooked! This book went everywhere with me even if I knew I wouldn’t have time to read it, I took it just incase. I felt like I was able to really connect with the story. The cliffhanger has meet on the edge of my seat waiting for the next on! If you’re looking for a dark romance that is centered God and the christian faith 10/10 recommend.

Overall I would rate this a 3.5. There were a lot of grammatical errors, so it made it hard for me to get into the book at first. However, after a certain point, I was hooked and could not put it down. I truly enjoyed the storyline, andbcannot wait for book 2!!

I found out about this book through TikTok, and I was intrigued because the author stated that it had dark romance elements while still glorifying God. As a Christian who loves typical booktok books, this sounded right up my alley. I am so glad I stumbled upon this author and this book because I’m OBSESSED! I was hooked from the start and could not put it down. The plot twist had me so shocked, and my jaw was on the floor at the cliffhanger at the end! I need book two like RIGHT NOW!
