This is a second chance small town romance novella, featuring Bobby Merritt and Granger Kelley, and is book five in the Goose Run series. This also contains four short stories.
Bobby is the much loved and quirky mayor of Goose Run. When the man who broke Bobby’s heart 25 years ago returns to town - things gets a little chaotic, and it all starts with Granger being attacked by Bobby’s beloved goose - talk about a reunited meet-cute disaster.
I’ve been waiting for Bobby’s book and it didn’t disappoint. I love Bobby and he is the absolute heart of Goode Run.

This is a collection of short stories including Bobby the mayor getting his HEA. I loved his story but thought it could actually have been a novel by its self.
We get to see how Lucille went to live with Bobby and the story of Cash and his brother.
I suppose this is the end of the series but it wrapped everything up nicely.

I was disappointed in Bobby and Granger's story. It felt more like a HFN because they didn't even end up in the same town together.

For fans of Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey’s Goose Run series, “Bobby Merritt Meets His Match” is the cherry on the best-ever series sundae. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each and every romance in the series. While they don’t need to be read in order, there’s greater enjoyment when you do.
How does Goose Run create pure joy? Let’s start with the snark. “When I saw one of the Zeta Tau girls arriving home in a skimpy tank top and a skirt short enough that I could almost see what she’d had for breakfast, my only thought was that I hoped she had remembered to apply sunscreen.”
Then we have some main characters who might actually be considered kinda awful. Take Bobby Merritt, Goose Run’s mayor, whose pet goose is allowed to nip and terrorize its citizens. I love, love, love these characters, with their flaws worn openly. I love the tension their backgrounds provide, lending a hard edge of reality to the difficulty of creating partnerships.
The stories feature working class guys who society tends to ignore. Ms. Honey and Ms. Henry highlight their heroism. Each has overcome miserable pasts, but has the dignity to move on, to make himself a better man, because survival offers no option to wallow in pain.
When Bobby’s rich college/law school ex-lover, Granger, rolls into town, their chemistry remains alive - alongside the relationship’s nasty collapse. Granger had been the only fellow student to treat Bobby as an equal, rather than “low class.” In the end, even Granger betrayed their love to satisfy his wealthy daddy, who wouldn’t have accepted a gay son and would have looked down on Bobby. Grange’s life has become a list of personal failures, other than his profession.
Meanwhile, Bobby realized his background would diminish a law practice and found a new path. Angry he’d allowed himself to be Granger’s dirty secret, he’s become unapologetic - to the point of eccentric. But how did he end up revitalizing the whole town where he resides? How could this once impoverished student create so many hidden acts of kindness? Will Granger get his head out of his … in time to save himself? And what would it take for Bobby to accept the happiness he’s quietly provided to others?

Okay, so I'm going to start by saying that I've read all the books in this series, so far and I've loved all of them. I've been patiently waiting for the chance to read Bobby's story, and it was well worth the wait. It might be short, but it's filled with heart. How could it not be when Bobby is the central character! I loved getting to know him better and getting to witness him as a 25-year-old on the brink of a major life decision.
I liked the way the story started with Granger's chapter in the present and Bobby's in the past. We weren't told what happened in the past, instead we were invited to travel back in time and live it along with the characters. It brought a lot of depth and emotion to such a short story. Beautifully done.
The short story with Miller, Danny, and the couch was both silly and sweet. It was also funny and family-focused.
Avery and Wilder's short story, where Avery meets Cassidy for the first time, is also super sweet. I love the way Cassidy and Wilder co-parent, the way they're completely open and honest with one another, and I guess I just love all the love. This story is overflowing with love of all kinds. Love, love, and more love. It's beautiful.
Now, Chase and Cash's story, which is a prequel to their arrival in Goose Run, is an emotional read, but it provides a clearer picture of the twins, where they've been, what they've been through, and how they've come to be the people they are now, in their newfound family. (Yes, that sentence is too long, but I'm leaving it.)
The final story is one I've read before, but I can honestly say that it's just as funny the second time around. Bobby and his Goose are unique, and hilarious if you're not the one getting "love tapped" by Lucille.
If you haven't read the series, you're in for a treat. I started with book one, Danny and Miller's story, which was adorable, and sweet, and filled with the perfect sort of found family. With every book that's followed, it's just gotten better. Now, at the end, I'm going to miss Goose Run. Well, until I go back a re-read the series again, which I will do, possibly more than once.

In this collection we get Bobby's story and learn how he and Lucille met. We also get a collection of short stories that pair with the 4 other books in the series.
Story 1 - Bobby Merritt Meets His Match
Bobby and Granger met in college and during that time and college they had a secret fling. They hadn’t seen each other in over 20 years until they run into each other at Goose Run’s pride event. Once these 2 sat down they talked and are giving them another chance. We got to see how Bobby came to Goose Run which was a delight.
Story 2 - How to Kill a Couch
Miller has always hated the couch Danny has in his house. He has offered to buy a new couch but Danny always says no. He gets an idea, break the couch and then buy a new one. It works and they get a new couch and recliner for Cash. Of course Danny knew all along and it was really sweet.
Story 3 - How to Meet a Parent
It’s Christmas time and Avery is panicking about how his house is and if there are enough decorations. He is so nervous because he is about to meet Gracie’s mom and Wilder’s ex. It’s really sweet how much he’s worried about it. Avery had nothing to worry about. Once the seal was broken between him and Cassidy it was smooth sailing.
Story 4 - How to Rescue a Runaway
This is the story of how Chase and Cash met Danny and Wilder. We see the horrors they lived through to be found by Danny. I fell in love with the brothers even more and I don’t think that was possible.
Story 5 - How to Woo a Goose
Mason who loves to bring home anything that needs a home brought home a porch goose that startled Cash when he got home. All of a sudden Lucille becomes fascinated with the clinic causing a ruckus.

"Bobby Merritt Meets his Match" brings the Goose Run series to a satisfying end, and it also includes the collected short stories that offer extended looks at the previous books in the series.
The novella itself tells the story of Goose Run's most colorful resident, Bobby Merritt - mayor, owner of the Adventurama and other businesses in town, and doting "dad" to Lucille, a menace of a goose. We've gotten bits and pieces of Bobby's life and his influence in the town throughout the other novels in the series, but he was still mostly a mystery until now.
Bobby hasn't seen former love interest Granger Kelly in 25 years, but when Granger comes back to Goose Run and finds out that not only is Bobby still there, but he's deeply involved with the town itself, Granger has to face what he did to Bobby all those years ago. There are a lot of feelings to hash out, but the spark is still there between them and is hard to ignore.
Along the way, we get Bobby's side of the story through chapters set in the past. (While all of Granger's chapters are set in the present, all of Bobby's are set in the past except for the last one.) This is presented clearly and provides a lot of wonderful backstory, as well as explaining just how Bobby became so deeply embedded in Goose Run - a town he'd never visited until Granger took him there when they were younger.
Because of the length of the story, there's not a lot of time for relationship development. They had a good bit of that in the past, but the reconciliation in the present felt a bit rushed.
The four short stories are all wonderful additions to the series, providing even more insight into the found family group we've come to love through the first four books. It's great to have them all collected in one place!

Bobby Merritt has been this larger than life character throughout each book, not only as the Mayor of Goose Run, but as the benefactor trying to draw residents and businesses back to town. His other notoriety comes in the shape of a goose named Lucille that he has actually raised from a gosling.
Granger comes to Goose Run to drop off his niece and her girlfriend for the Pride Weekend celebration when she finds out he has a cabin there he inherited from his own uncle. Granger has an unexpected encounter with Bobby, and realizes he doesn’t want to walk away from him again without apologizing for his behavior when they were together in college and law school.
Bobby cannot believe Granger is actually in Goose Run, but knew they would finally have to discuss how their young love affair ended. After giving Granger a chance to talk to him, Bobby shares how he ended up being the Mayor of Goose Run. It’s nice to finally understand the reason Bobby feels so strongly about this small town and its residents, and why everyone loves and supports him.
While they know it doesn’t change the past, Bobby and Granger both believe they deserve a second chance at love, and will find a way to make it work this time.
All of the characters will make you smile and some will have you laughing out loud, and the book will leave you with your heart smiling. I enjoy these authors and recommend them to everyone.

We finally get Bobby's story!! I have been so immensely curious about Bobby's background ever since his character was first mentioned. His character has always been so eccentric and just himself, and now knowing his background, it's even more amazing that he has continued to help others' and is so full of life.
His and Granger's past isn't one that ends in happiness, unfortunately due to Granger not wanting to admit what him and Bobby were to each other, that led to them going seperate ways. Granger going back to the city to be an up and coming lawyer, and Bobby staying in Goose Run and well, running Goose Run.
Their story was so fantastic. I absolutely loved being able to read Bobby's POV, those chapters were my favorite, simply because I just adore Bobby's eccentric personality. He made me smile, and learning about how him and Lucille became a dynamic duo was so cool and cute!! I thought the romance between Granger and Bobby was there, perhaps a little rushed, but overall, I liked their story quite a bit. I wanted their story to be longer, I was fully ready to read a whole book full of their romance story, all that angst, and pining, and groveling, but their story was only about a quarter of the book. The rest of this lovely book was full of short stories featuring the other characters we have gotten to know and love and I LOVED getting to re-visit those characters once more.
I am so sad this series is over but hopefully there will be another chance for these characters to pop up in other books as I just adore them. Overall, a really fantastic book, that I strongly recommend you to read!!

This is book five in the authors’ Goose Run series and we FINALLY got Bobby Merritt’s story! That man is a hoot! I’ve wondered about him since the first book in the series but didn’t really expect to ever get his because he was never linked with anyone but I was so excited to hear that one was in the works. After reading it though, it kinda made me a little sad, the fact that he and Granger, his college FWB, had wasted so much time… I mean, they were in their late 40s, early 50s and neither had ever completely gotten over the other and all because of a little bit of fear! After all that, I was wanting a grand reunion followed by a long awaited HEA but it didn’t turn out quite the way I expected.
That was only a small part of the book, the rest was made up of a series of short, bonus type stories that went along with the other books in the series. Most of ‘em were cute and fluffy but the one about Chase and Cash running away after escaping from their abusive father was heartbreaking though I did enjoy seeing how they came to be live with Danny and Wilder. I've loved every book in this series and Bobby's story was no exception! He's such an amazing character and I honestly think I could read about his adventures in rebuilding Goose Run all day long if I could. I enjoyed the different chapters that flashed back to the past from both Bobby and Granger's perspectives. I especially liked how he met Lucille! Granger and Bobby had good chemistry and, although it was short, each chapter definitely had impact. My only complaint is I wish it was longer just so I could read more of Bobby and get to see more of Granger embracing their relationship. Saying that, on the whole it was the perfect way to round off the series (even though I really, really hope we get more set here as I still don't feel ready to say goodbye!)
As for the short stories, I have read them all before when they were separately released after each novel but I read them again just because I loved them. Some of them made me laugh out loud like Miller killing the couch or the panic with Cash and Mason about Lucille. Others, like the background of Chase and Cash, gave real depth to the guys and made me quite emotional because I was already so attached to them. They all add something wonderful to the Goose Run world and, once again, I hope this isn't the end for seeing these guys.
Overall, a fantastic compilation of stories that I'd definitely recommend if you've read the series so far.

I left my heart in Goose Run. I plan on returning to visit often, because Goose Run is a place that is small and imperfectly perfect and evolving and I love it. And I think we all know it’s because of Bobby Merritt.

Yay - Bobby gets an HEA! The weird - *ahem* - eccentric mayor and goose dad of Goose Run! He hilariously contributes to each of the books in the Goose Run series, and as kooky as he is, he’s also extremely charitable and definitely deserves his love story. I’m so glad we get to see it.
This is told in part when Bobby and Granger first knew each other, and then 25 years later when they reconnect, in alternating chapters. I loved 25 year old Bobby, his insecurities and humble background - he’s adorable. It was good to get the backstory on him becoming the Goose Run icon he is, how his relationship with his goose Lucille came about, what the town was like before he worked his magic and - of course - him finding love with Granger. I also liked that this was an HEA for an older couple (50) and the inclusion of the prior GR boys too.
I’d read the other short stories included in this book once I’d read each story. In parts they offer more hilarity and insight into each character, most especially with twins Cash and Chase. Their history and trauma is hinted at in the main books but spelt out pretty blatantly in “How to Rescue a Runaway”. It’s heartbreaking and a must read, handled beautifully by Honey and Henry.
I love this series and this is a fitting farewell.

Cute! I really enjoyed the new novella in this collection. Bobby and Granger seem wildly different at first, but their backstory in law school reveals so much more about Bobby that we never knew. He’s deceptively clever and a misfit by choice, and all these pieces of him throughout the books suddenly fit together and make more sense. Granger dropped Bobby like a hot potato after their schooling ended, but neither of them really got over it. Flashbacks join with scenes from Goose Run Pride, including all our favorite characters, and really build up to this precarious second chance. I loved all of the work put in to connect the stories together and make this little town bigger.
Things feel rushed at the end, though. I had a tough time digesting the speed at which the hard feelings are dropped, forgiveness granted, and future plans made. It’s really fast. I wanted more resolution of their decades-long silent heartbreak. That said, everything is cute and funny and I enjoyed myself.

This is a 5 story book, 4 of which are available free from the authors web site. However, the main story is fabulous, as usual, just not long enough!
It's great to find out how Bobby Merritt came to Goose Run though and how he gets his happy ending.
How to kill a couch is a great short about Danny and Miller (and the couch poor Wilder has to sleep on!) and how Miller 'persuades' Danny to get a new one.
In How to Meet a Parent, Avery is a bumbling mess as he readies his house for Gracie's mum to visit, hoovering up at 2 am is only one of his foibles (he's a nervous wreck). As always, a lovely story about finding friends and about life
In How to Rescue a Runaway we learn more about Chase and Cash. This is not a pleasant story, though we know it's going to have a better ending. Chase has always looked after Cash and their early life shows how far Chase is prepared to go.
How to Woo a Goose has Mason buying a pottery goose and placing it on his doorstep. Lucille,of course, takes offence!

This is a fun coda for fans of the series - especially those who missed the short stories in other venues - as long as you like short and sweet, and don't expect too much from the first part. Even the titular story is more of a bonus than another full entry. We get to see Bobby Merritt reconnect with a guy from his past, but it's a fast, smooth process with no grovelling, no obstacles, and no angst, and an HFN ending. (Even Lucille doesn't put up the fuss I was half-expecting to see.) I'm so glad for Bobby, finding happiness after all these years, but this is not any kind of deep look into this hugely fun and colorful character we've learned to appreciate, just a warm epilogue.
The short stories also have some humor, and in at least one case, more poignancy and emotions than Bobby's part. All were well worth reading and gave us insight into beloved characters.
So I do recommend this, to those who like me have adored this particular series and its main characters, as long as you don't go into it expecting Bobby to get the depth of treatment and character that the other novels provided.
If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend all the main books, and definitely recommend reading in order, ending with this one.

The first story is Bobby's backstory. Bobby was the character I was least interested in while reading the series, but the authors sure did a good job his backstory with Granger & how he came to town This is stuff you absolutely want to know if you've read the other books.

This very short book shows us how Bobby Merritt came to be in Goose Run and its mayor. It's also his turn for romance and love. He had to wait 25 years for it, but he and Granger Kelley are happy where they are right now. Maybe it's Alex's turn next? There are also three even shorter stories included. They are prequels--the authors give us directions about when they should be read, before/after what books.
I wish their story was longer. Hopefully there's another book coming that will give us an update. It ends a little abruptly, but also kinda not. I sure would like to see how they work out the logistics of one living in Goose Run while the other in Richmond. I can't imagine Bobby wanting to move away from Goose Run.

I’m so glad Bobby got his own story. It wrapped up the series beautifully, and it’s great to see him get his own HEA, even if he had to wait years to get it. Bobby and Granger were both studying law, and in a secret relationship, when they made a post bar exam visit to Goose Run. Unfortunately however, things go badly between them. At first Bobby’s stranded in the town, but with the help of the locals, and some good luck, he decides to stay and sets about improving things - while Granger becomes the lawyer. Now Mayor of Goose Run Bobby instigates their first Pride Parade, to which Granger brings his neice and her girlfriend. As Bobby and Granger reconnect, with help from Lucille, we learn more about their past and Granger finally acknowledges his feelings.
Following Bobby’s story is four, lovely shorts about the previous characters in the series. They were originally available after the release of each book, but are now here in one collection, giving further insight into each of them.
I highy recommend this novella and shorts, and they are the perfect accompanyment to the Goose Run series.

I’m sure that fans of the Goose Run series have been eagerly awaiting Bobby Merritt’s story and Lisa and Sarah wrote a great one for him. It’s not real long but I appreciated it so much. The first few chapters alternate between then and now – it’s a second chance story – and we find out a lot about Bobby and how he came to Goose Run. He never expected to see Granger again, let alone in Goose Run. I loved this story so much and I’m very happy that Bobby finally got his HEA.
There are also four short stories included in this collection and they are great. How to Rescue a Runaway is the back story for Cash and Chase and tells how they got to Goose Run. The story I’ve been waiting for since I was invited into Goose Run! Bobby has always been kind of an eccentric mystery. As both mayor and owner of a majority of Goose Run, he’s most known for his big heart and his goose Lucille who he would claim is just misunderstood.
I like that we got to see how Bobby ended up in Goose Run and then never left because “something came up”. His first time there was with his secret lover Granger, whose uncle had a cabin there. Their story is truly one of a different time and family expectations, particularly in the South and in families with social prominence.
Bobby worked hard to get a scholarship and prove everyone wrong about him. Granger was the kid who had the pedigree that would normally look down on Bobby. It was heartbreaking to read through the lines to see young Granger struggle with losing Bobby or his comfortable life. It was also emotional watching Bobby work out that he liked being Bobby and that he didn’t want to be Robert just to prove everyone wrong about his past. I’m so glad that these two got their second chance.

I think the thing I loved the most about this series is the found family trope, so very well done.
All the boys are close to each other and support each other without hesitation, and they always included Bobby as well, even if he seemed a bit weird at times.
Bobby has an aura of genuine happiness around him, he's so easygoing, a pure ray of sunshine and certainly I did not expect he endured such a hard rejection in his past.
I have to admit I did not connect with Granger, though: I can understand why he pushed Bobby away all those years ago, but not why he stayed away for so long. He claims he still loves Bobby, but they reconnected just out of luck, he didn't really do anything to win Bobby back. I didn't feel the romance between them and I believe the mayor forgave Granger way too easily.

The other stories are wonderful, I loved that the authors gave us more about all those characters, they really deserve all the happiness in the world!

What a sweet way to end our time in Goose Run. You could, technically, read this as a stand alone but i don't think it would be as good without reading the books that precede it. Bobby Merritt has been a larger than life character in the other 4 books about the guys of Goose Run. He's the mayor of their little weird town and unapologetically himself. Short shorts, cowboy boots, rainbow suspenders, attack goose and all. Bobby is loud and proud and literally owns most of the town. This final book finally gets us some back story for this unforgettable character. We also get to meet the reserved, conservative lawyer that brought Bobby to Goose Run and left him there too. Granger was too scared to really be with Bobby back then, but he knows he's not going to make the same mistake twice. It's a sweet second chance romance that I really enjoyed. What bumped this book over for me was the inclusion of all the short story check ins with the couples from the previous books. This was just a nice way to wrap up the whole series in a warm, cozy bow.

Bobby’s story was such a fun and heartfelt way to return to Goose Run. I’ve really enjoyed the quirky characters in this series, and Bobby is definitely one of those characters who can carry a story all on his own.
I loved the second-chance romance between Bobby and Granger, especially the way their shared history slowly comes to light through the flashbacks. There’s plenty of humour, but also some genuine emotion as they deal with what happened twenty-five years ago and discover that those old feelings never completely disappeared.
And, of course, the goose steals the show more than once! Bobby and Granger have great chemistry, and although this is a novella, their story still manages to feel satisfying.
The additional short stories were a lovely bonus and brought back some of my favourite Goose Run characters. They added plenty of laughs, warmth and a few emotional moments too.
A charming, funny and touching collection that feels like a fitting celebration of Goose Run although I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to this wonderfully eccentric little town yet!

This was a fun way to close out Goose Run (though I confess I haven't read all 4 of the prior books which I will need to rectify). The past/present flips in Bobby and Granger's story worked really well and that story was a satisfying conclusion to the series (even though it's first in this book). I would love some sort of ficlet in the future that goes over what Bobby did for Goose Run over the years, but I'm not sure how that would work since it would be very slice-of-life. The rest of the short stories were all quite good and ranged in tone from funny to rather dark (I hope karma finds some of the people in the Chase/Cash prequel story). While I didn't read all of the prior books, I do think at least one of them would need to be read first to be familiar with the town and the cast of characters. Definitely worth picking up if you've read other books in the series and want a bit more time with this wonderful found family.
