I recommend this small story as it really gives a good description of Rapture's corrupted society. It was also nice to see small references to the characters and areas found in the first game. 10/10
Though this book is clearly fanfiction published on a wider scale, this is still a fun short story that dives deeper in the world of Rapture that we Bioshock fans love so much. Focusing on the perspective of not the city's most famous characters as in the games, but instead on what living in Rapture before its downfall would have been like for a regular citizen was a fresh and intriguing look into this world. My only major critique is that the book seems hastily edited, and things like grammatical errors and modern phrasing did take me out of the immersion at times.
This is a superb short story. Although many readers can second guess the ending a mile off, the short novelette gave a lot of flesh to characters who lived in Rapture.
An intriguing mystery. A Rapture tragedy. This novella tells a full and complete story in just over an hour of a listen that had me on the edge of my seat! I need to check out the authors other Rapture novels.
I loved this story. I could believe everything that was brought up. And I see this as being one original story, of many, for the Little Sisters, and their families.
A simple short story based, of course, around the Bioshock video games. It doesn't really offer anything new to the story of Rapture. We follow the successful clock maker, Arthur Winter, on his mission to find and retrieve his daughter, Madeline, who goes missing one day in Fontaine's Department Store. The author captures the characters of Rapture's underground quite well, in my opinion. They are diverse, believable, and ruthless, and blend well with what we know of the characters from the games and the novel (BioShock: Rapture), as well. Our protagonist, however, is a bit TOO ignorant of the goings-on in Rapture. Arthur was not the first Big Daddy ever made, yet he hasn't heard of them or of the Little Sisters? The excuse seems to be that he simply doesn't hang out in the "right" parts of Rapture to know about these things, but that excuse seems rather shaky to me.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
I gave rapture the big daddy five stars because one I was always curious about the whole big daddy and little sister bit in the video games like how did it all start and why and now I have my answer in this little short story we get a insight into the first big daddy Mr Arthur winters it starts with him and his family moving into rapture with a dream only to end in a nightmare which I don't want to give to much away but I did enjoy this short read I thought it was well told and aside from some misplaced words I did enjoy it I recommend to any true BioShock fan and new comers its a must read if you played any of the games
Whether you are a fan of the Bioshock games (I definitely am!) or just like a good Sci-Fi story, this one is totally worth your time. The worst thing I can say about it is that it was short and I finished it far too soon. Would love to read more by this author who did a particularly brilliant job of capturing the beautiful underwater world of Rapture. I have seen a few reviews complaining about the price versus the length of the story. All I can say to that is stop being cheap people! lol Since when are authors well paid? Look at it this way, you can rent a move for a few bucks and it will keep you entertained for roughly an hour. You are actually getting a damn good deal here.
Another side story set in the fictional underwater city of Rapture explaining how a big daddy came to be through the eyes of a character that lives there. Once again, it is amazing how little storylines can paint an entire picture of a fictional place based on a videogame called Bioshock. Read if your a fan of the game or dystopian city novels.
I find this book, along with others written about Rapture to be great accompaniments to the games. This book in particular have me a glimpse into the little sisters and big daddies. It was well thought out and written. The story was engrossing and creative. Definitely worth a look.
Fun little trip back down to Rapture that showcases some of the locations made famous in the game with both new characters and old faces alike. A quick and easy mystery that really only holds appeal for players of the BioShock video game. It was worth the short time invested to read it and I'll check out other entries in the series in the future.
While I liked this & it was terrifying from a parental point of view, there were a few flaws. For one, why would someone need a permit in an unregulated society? Also, I found the lack of detail that led to the ending to be somewhat unsatisfying. Still, an interesting addition to the Bioshock universe.
An excellent story that follows perfectly the Bioshock universe. Aside from a few misused words this book is great. Anyone who enjoyed the first two Bioshock games will love this book.
